Bloomberg's Climate Fantasy

From the New York Daily News:

The data doesn’t support him.

The temperature rise seems to have slowed in the past few years, here is NYC’s Central Park data:

UPDATE: WeatherBell meteorologist Joe D’Aleo sends along this graph, showing population with temperature plotted together. This makes a strong case for UHI and waste heat effects.

Will the Sea level go up a foot by 2020? Doubtful.

Based on current NOAA data, it will take over 100 years to gain a foot of sea level rise.

At 2.77mm per year, we can only hope to see 8 x 2.77mm = 22.16mm or 0.072 foot (0.872 inches) rise by 2020. That’s not even close to Mayor Bloomberg’s claims. Note I’m being generous and using 8 years since 2013 isn’t even half over yet.

And, it really is easy to get freaked out if you don’t pay attention to anything but hype:

Freaking out about NYC sea level rise is easy to do when you don’t pay attention to history

Sandy Sandy Sandy Sandy,, OMG Sandy Sandy Sandy..

June 11, 2013 11:08 am

Hello? Mayor Bloomberg? Could we please meet this “panel of expert scientists?” We have a few questions to ask.
No? And we should not think of stinking FOI requests? You don’t need no stinking badges? Dear me, Mayor Bloomberg! Calm down!

Are we going to find out any names of the ‘expert panel of scientists’? Are we going to get any information on how they came to all the conclusions they came too? Its amazing all the people at the nydailynews.com and twitter that believe all this; with no names, no data, no debate, no way to judge for themselves, they just believe it!
What happened to ‘think for yourself question authority’?

“Hurricane” Sandy is the gift that keeps on giving, for politicians like Blomberg.

Since his soda ban was shot down, he may be preparing to simply tax all carbonated beverage off-gassing as well.

I think this is the blue ribbon panel. Most of these members livlihoods depend on the AGW impending catastrophe. Shocked to find they think NY City will be very hot and wet in a few years. Must keep the gravy train running.

A 3 degree increase in temperatures in only 7 years?
Even the IPCC is claiming it will take 100 years for that much warming.

The seas are going to rise 1 foot in the next 7 years to boot?

I agree with Bastardi.
These are ignorant people who propagate these fallacious claims because it it is what they were told to believe. There is no independent thought here whatever.
Try this NY Times piece…

What a bunch of unintellectual dribble. This author likely has no idea that we are currently in an ice age with periodic glaciations.
The incredible lack of factual awareness of this self-appointed class of supposed world-class “news” authors is mind numbing.
These people should be banned to the mimeograph machine with hand distribution on street corners to propagate this misplaced propaganda (not thought).

Watched the entire live news conf. Not sure exactly how many time the word SADNY came up but it was used in almost every sentence/paragraph and in the videos they showed.
So Mayor is using/Blaming SANDY on Climate Change because the entire news conference Sandy was mentioned over and over again.

Watched the entire live news conf. Not sure exactly how many time the word SANDY [corrected _Jim] came up …

How many times did the word ‘engineering’ or ‘sea wall’ come up?
Subway ‘Flood Protection’ barriers or doors?
Who did they mention would pay for all this?
Or was this just the announcement of their ‘long-ball play’ and all their eggs are being strategically placed in the “CO2 mitigation” / ‘climate-change-will-be-prevented’ (hope and pray) basket?

As long as Tmin is included in AGW calculations there will be AGW.
I’d be very interested in site trends of temp readings versus lights out sky glow trends. Seems the warmists have forgotten that differences are not linear in their response.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the country, a revolution of sorts is taking place.
In California, Democratic leaders brought their fracking moratorium bill to the Assembly floor last week, and their rank and file revolted. The bill lost 37-24, with 12 Democrats joining 25 Republicans to defeat it. Another 18 Democrats abstained, and it’s a good bet they were “no” votes who didn’t want to publicly cross their leadership.

Where are the reports and charts on subsidence and erosion? Aren’t they more of a factor in current ‘sea level rise’? Can some other, real scientists push back with this info?

Wow, now that’s progress. It is getting hotter in a city that is mostly paved than it was when it was less paved.
So… this means that Bloomberg and his panel of experts have confirmed that the UHI treatment that Hansen and the others at GISS-New York have applied to the USHCN is bogus? Does it mean that they admit there is a huge temperature difference between a 90% paved area in a humid climate and enough multi-story structures to interfere horizontal wind flow so the only circulation is drawing warm air from other paved areas?
Or does it mean something else more convenient? Enquiring minds want to know.

The “Climate change is real” comment should simply be restated as; ‘Brawndo has electrolytes’. It’s just more obtuse, repetitive nonsense that has been the hallmark of the green political movement as a whole. The movement is now a sad, unscientific marketing campaign that is being put to a slow death.

Why is Bloomberg ignoring Gothamite (Gothamian? Gothaman? Gothamer? Gothamist?) Hansen’s dead-certain sea level predictions?
Hansen foretells more than 176 mm/year starting this year.
Bloomberg candy-coats the gloom down to 43 mm/year starting this year.
Meanwhile, sea level rise in Gotham trundles along at <3 mm/year.
Every passing year will only make these predictions worse than we think today.
