FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 10/29/12
WUWT-TV to debut on November 14th to counter Al Gore’s “Dirty Weather Telethon” on November 14th and 15th starting at 8PM EST (5PM PST)
Al Gore is forming another 24 hour media event on November 14th, focusing on “dirty weather”, which you can read about here. It is yet another example of what has been called “Tabloid Climatology”.
Gore’s program is another transparent attempt to link climate and weather, and to make people fearful of common weather events that we’ve seen all throughout history. WUWT hosted a 24 hour event last year, thanks to the talents of our contributing cartoonist, Josh. You can review that here.
Last year during his “24 Hours of Climate Reality”, Mr. Gore created a video called “Climate 101” in which he purported to show a laboratory experiment showing the warming effects of CO2. Unfortunately it was discovered that Mr. Gore fabricated the experimental results using video post production techniques. You can read about it and see the evidence here:
and
Due to Mr. Gore broadcasting fabricated and impossible science experiments, and then failing to correct the video even when glaringly obvious falsifications were pointed out, and partly due to WUWT’s founder Anthony Watts recent interview (and backlash) on PBS Newshour, a donor has stepped forward and offered to equip WUWT for professional Live TV over the Internet and has purchased a complete web enabled TV studio setup for use this year, seen here:
http://www.newtek.com/products/tricaster-40.html
It includes two cameras, live video over net input, and live graphics/slideshow input.
It has been tested and has succeeded a 24 hour live web broadcast burn in period. When in production, the WUWT-TV web channel will have all of the elements of a professional TV production.
During the event, WUWT-TV will be able to conduct live video interviews via Skype online video, plus will feature simultaneous PowerPoint presentations run in high quality HD to go with the live interview, while the guest narrates. These can be full screen or split screen depending on the setting.
PowerPoint presentations will be pre-loaded into the system, and to facilitate remote control, WUWT has engineered a remote ‘clicker’ that allows guest presenters to control the presentation from their end, using a web page with a forward and back button on it.
WUWT-TV has invited a number of individuals to give presentations, here is the list so far.
SCHEDULED TO APPEAR:
Andrew Montford (Author of The Hockey Stick Illusion)
Richard Lindzen (Alfred P. Sloan professor of Meteorology, MIT)
Marc Morano (Climate Depot)
John Coleman (Founder of the Weather Channel, now at KUSI-TV)
Chris Horner (Senior Fellow, Center for Energy and Environment, CEI)
Steve McIntyre (editor of ClimateAudit.org)
Dr. Ross McKitrick (University of Guelph)
John Christy (Alabama State climatologist, co author of UAH dataset)

Harold Ambler (Author of Don’t Sell Your Coat)
Donna LaFramboise (Author of The Delinquent Teenager)
Pat Michaels (former State climatologist of Virgina, fellow of the Cato institute)
Pete Garcia (Producer of the movie The Boy Who Cried Warming)
Christopher Monckton (SPPI)
Invited but still undecided or have not returned RSVP:
Judith Curry (may appear by pre-recorded presentation she offered)
Burt Rutan (no reply)
John Kehr (no reply)
David Stockwell (no reply)
Jo Nova (undecided)
Dr. David Evans (no reply)
Zeke Hausfather, BEST (undecided)
Invited but declined:
Dr. Walt Meir, NSIDC (declined)
Dr. Roger Pielke Sr. (conflicting commitments prevent appearance)
Dr. Roger Pielke Jr. (declined but offered supplemental materials)
Bill McKibben (declined due to other commitments)
There are still a few slots open. For those on the opposite side of the debate, as well as those on the skeptic side we invite you to participate, and welcome slide and narrative presentations from 15 minutes to 1 hour in length.
For questions or to request a time slot, please use the contact form if you will be able to participate. Given that Mr. Gore wants to sell the American public on ‘dirty weather’, which we know is an act of desperation, unsupported by the current state of the science (see this Nature editorial on the lack of linkage between climate and extreme weather) your voice will be particularly important.
If you cannot participate live during that time, we can arrange to pre-record the segment and play it at the appropriate time on November 14th or 15th. All that is required is a functional webcam (with headset preferred for best audio quality) A Skype account, and a short PowerPoint presentation or video clip.

I’d like to recommend Marcel Crok; site here. His 2005 Popes of Science article (pdf abstract here), was among the first to warn of the perversion overtaking climate science. IMO he deserves a Pulitzer for that very prescient article.
Anthony, other good additions would include Oliver K. Manuel, Tim Ball [Canada] and Burt Rutan.
Cliff Mass

R.G. Brown at Duke!
Brilliant, Anthony, well impressed! Looking forward to seeing it! Like others though, James Delingpole, Christopher Booker and Richard North would make very valuable contributions. You could also invite Michael Mann, he seems to be in a particularly litigious mood at the moment. You definitely don’t want to get on the wrong side of him!!
Anthony, very very well done. Excellent and awesome with a capital O.
The one thing that comes to mind is ‘preaching to the choir’. Maybe you can incorporate some kind of swingometer, studio panel or whatever to encourage the man-in-the-street to get exposed to this stuff? Perhaps the MSM will do it if you can get it onto FOX.
The other opportunity is to do real-time rebuttal of Al Gore’s BS…yes I know you don’t want to be defined by the other side, but addressing the outrageous overhype immediately might be possible.
[snip – this is way off topic and has nothing to do with WUWT-TV – mod]
That is exciting news Anthony.
What about Dr. Willie Soon?
I would suggest a hypothetical topic of the consequences on our power supply during a storm such as the east coast is currently enduring, if we had a large part of power supply from thousands of offshore windmills , that has been advocated. Blackouts would probably last months.
@ColdOldMan, October 29, 2012 at 4:57 pm ….I feel that the broadcast should focus on the science rather than the politics. …”
I respectfully disagree. Since this issue was politicized from the start in the late ’80s/ early ’90s with the twin unsupportable assertions that the science was settled and skeptics were corrupt, hitting back on only the science is a tactic that does nothing to disarm the baseless accusations against skeptics’ “corruption”. It only breeds more efforts to support the dumb conspiracy idea that Anthony and anybody who speaks with him are fossil fuel industry shills, religious nutcases, free-market zealots, or whatever other domino that’s placed in front of the idea that respectable people may have perfectly valid skepticism about AGW.
If any major headway is to be made in this issue, it must be unequivocally demonstrated that the accusation about skeptics ‘manufacturing doubt’ about settled science instead has every appearance of being specifically consolidated efforts to manufacture doubt about the credibility of skeptics as a ruse to prevent the general public from spotting fatal flaws in AGW. As I suggested last year right here in a WUWT guest post ( http://wattsupwiththat.com/2011/06/25/the-end-is-near-for-faith-in-agw/ ), the ‘settled science’ / ‘corrupt skeptics’ only works when there is faith in that whole system, but when that faith is wiped out on BOTH fronts, the whole thing can collapse like a giant ponzi scheme.
It’s very good to have qualified scientists and engineers on board to give technical background to the topic of Global Warming, whether this be Natural, Anthropogenic, Catastrophic Anthropogenic or Catastrophic Anthropogenic Climate Change and so forth and so on.
The problem, as I see it, Is not the concept of warming itself (the yes, no or maybe responses) but rather the political, cultural and economic responses to the implication that warming (the only part of “climate change” that will kill us according to the meme) will be a disaster. Now, if an asteroid was definitively bearing down upon us and 100% we could expect an impact and destruction, then it would make sense for politicians to take certain decisions, in the *short term*, which would have political, cultural and economic impacts on the world’s population, in order to protect it. The problem with AGW is at least threefold. 1, the level of the warming has with it an uncertainty with respect to its magnitude. 2, There is a level of uncertainty with respect to the cause (CO2 vs Natural vs other) and 3, there is greater uncertainty with respect to the impacts of the proposed climatic changes on the world’s population.
So, under the circumstances, once scientists have prepared a case for politicians (and dare I say, the public) – eg the IPCC reports – then the decision with respect to appropriate response is a responsibility that each affected person, ie citizens, voters, consumers have and a right to a full say in. It is not the sole right of scientists, politicians and economists or lobby groups etc to make decisions which affect us all. Yes, they are taking that privilege (see carbon tax in Australia) but it makes it no less the right of us, the great unwashed, to have our say, our input, our protest.
Anthony, please get some of the unwashed on your show, who can speak rationally about how this ‘meme’ is affecting their economic life and freedom to enjoy their lifestyle (eg people with a windlectic dumped in their backyard). How their power bills have risen. How they have to make choices between warmth and food.
🙂
Good on ya, Anthony. Way to take the offensive. Be the first to offer a fair and reasoned debate on this very important subject. Invite both sides to present their cases and let the science prevail.
I’m guessing Al Gore is ruing the day he invented the internet right now.
“Vive la vérité!”
“Bill McKibben (declined due to other commitments)”
More likely declined out of a desire not to get his brains beat in. And how can blame him. Bill McKibben has a middle name, and the name is, “even I know I’m full of crap.”
If anyone in Western Washington State would like to make a get-together of this, please let us know.
Seconding others writing in requesting some more scientists.
Reblogged this on Is it 2012 in Nevada County Yet? and commented:
I will be watching, please invites some friends in for a viewing. We are going up it up on the big screen.
If possible, may I suggest Dr.Tamsin Edwards? She gave a very creditable first radio-interview in September, eliciting praise at Bishop Hill and compliments such as
http://bishophill.squarespace.com/blog/2012/9/13/tamsin-on-the-jet-stream.html
Cliff Mass is a “go along to get along” climate scientist. As far as I can tell, he has no backbone.
Is this a one off? Or is it going to be a recurring?
If the latter, I think some of the focus should be on the layman’s viewpoint.
Anomalies, Proxies, Forcings, Homogenizations etc. get lost on the common man. I love this site, but I often think it too difficult for the average person to get their head around.
Suggest having Pete Garcia help as a co-producer, he did a very professional looking job on The Boy who Cried Warming.
I still think this is your most effective weapon:
http://wattsupwiththat.com/2009/12/12/historical-video-perspective-our-current-unprecedented-global-warming-in-the-context-of-scale/
Nothing beats it. If you could spend 1/2 hour on how that was done, and maybe another half hour on what others have done to try to falsely defeat those facts in favor of activism, it would be a great presentation.
Great I can’t wait to tune in. Ain’t the Internet great! Congratulations Anthony!
Congratulations, Anthony. This is a major accomplishment.
I’ll second the nominations for James Delingpole and Christopher Booker on the skeptical side.
Also the suggestion that some notable warmists be invited. e.g. Mann and Hansen.
wshofact,
Is this the video you referred to? It seems to work OK, but has been subtitled and edited ?
Very good guest list.
Congratulations!
I’ll be watching.
Strongly second that.
And for a CAGW point of view how about that film director or producer who so wanted to debate until push came to shove… I think it was James Cameron.
