Announcement: WUWT-TV to counter Al Gore's '24 Hours of Climate Reality' with live webcast

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  10/29/12

WUWT-TV to debut on November 14th to counter Al Gore’s “Dirty Weather Telethon” on November 14th and 15th starting at 8PM EST (5PM PST)

Al Gore is forming another 24 hour media event on November 14th, focusing on “dirty weather”, which you can read about here. It is yet another example of what has been called “Tabloid Climatology”.

Gore’s program is another transparent attempt to link climate and weather, and to make people fearful of common weather events that we’ve seen all throughout history. WUWT hosted a 24 hour event last year, thanks to the talents of our contributing cartoonist, Josh.  You can review that here.

Last year during his “24 Hours of Climate Reality”, Mr. Gore created a video called “Climate 101” in which he purported to show a laboratory experiment showing the warming effects of CO2. Unfortunately it was discovered that Mr. Gore fabricated the experimental results using video post production techniques. You can read about it and see the evidence here:

Video analysis and scene replication suggests that Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project fabricated their Climate 101 video “Simple Experiment”

and

Replicating Al Gore’s Climate 101 video experiment shows that his “high school physics” could never work as advertised

Due to Mr. Gore broadcasting fabricated and impossible science experiments, and then failing to correct the video even when glaringly obvious falsifications were pointed out, and partly due to WUWT’s founder Anthony Watts recent interview (and backlash) on PBS Newshour, a donor has stepped forward and offered to equip WUWT for professional Live TV over the Internet and has purchased a complete web enabled TV studio setup for use this year, seen here:

http://www.newtek.com/products/tricaster-40.html

It includes two cameras, live video over net input, and live graphics/slideshow input.

It has been tested and has succeeded a 24 hour live web broadcast burn in period. When in production, the WUWT-TV web channel will have all of the elements of a professional TV production.

During the event, WUWT-TV will be able to conduct live video interviews via Skype online video, plus will feature simultaneous PowerPoint presentations run in high quality HD to go with the live interview, while the guest narrates. These can be full screen or split screen depending on the setting.

PowerPoint presentations will be pre-loaded into the system, and to facilitate remote control, WUWT has engineered a remote ‘clicker’ that allows guest presenters to control the presentation from their end, using a web page with a forward and back button on it.

WUWT-TV has invited a number of individuals to give presentations, here is the list so far.

SCHEDULED TO APPEAR:

Andrew Montford (Author of The Hockey Stick Illusion)

Richard Lindzen (Alfred P. Sloan professor of Meteorology, MIT)

Marc Morano (Climate Depot)

John Coleman  (Founder of the Weather Channel, now at KUSI-TV)

Chris Horner (Senior Fellow, Center for Energy and Environment, CEI)

Steve McIntyre (editor of ClimateAudit.org)

Dr. Ross McKitrick (University of Guelph)

John Christy (Alabama State climatologist, co author of UAH dataset)

Joe D’Aleo (WeatherBell)

Joe Bastardi  (Weatherbell)

Senator Jim Inhofe

Bob Tisdale (author of Who Turned on The Heat?)

Dr. Ryan Maue (Weatherbell)

Burt Rutan, (Engineer and Aviation Pioneer)

Dr. Sebastian Lüning  (co-author of Die kalte Sonne)

Harold Ambler (Author of Don’t Sell Your Coat)

Donna LaFramboise (Author of The Delinquent Teenager)

Pat Michaels (former State climatologist of Virgina, fellow of the Cato institute)

Pete Garcia (Producer of the movie The Boy Who Cried Warming)

Christopher Monckton (SPPI)

Invited but still undecided or have not returned RSVP:

Judith Curry (may appear by pre-recorded presentation she offered)

Burt Rutan (no reply)

John Kehr (no reply)

David Stockwell  (no reply)

Jo Nova  (undecided)

Dr. David Evans (no reply)

Zeke Hausfather, BEST (undecided)

Invited but declined:

Dr. Walt Meir, NSIDC (declined)

Dr. Roger Pielke Sr. (conflicting commitments prevent appearance)

Dr. Roger Pielke Jr. (declined but offered supplemental materials)

Bill McKibben (declined due to other commitments)

There are still a few slots open. For those on the opposite side of the debate, as well as those on the skeptic side we invite you to participate, and welcome slide and narrative presentations from 15 minutes to 1 hour in length.

For questions or to request a time slot, please use the contact form if you will be able to participate. Given that Mr. Gore wants to sell the American public on ‘dirty weather’, which we know is an act of desperation, unsupported by the current state of the science (see this Nature editorial on the lack of linkage between climate and extreme weather) your voice will be particularly important.

If you cannot participate live during that time, we can arrange to pre-record the segment and play it at the appropriate time on November 14th or 15th. All that is required is a functional webcam (with headset preferred for best audio quality) A Skype account, and a short PowerPoint presentation or video clip.

This is great news!
You should enlist Mosh to walk by in the background once an hour and spit out dismissive sentence fragments. J/K Mosh we love you but I wish you would finish those thoughts!

“… who understands what the old people of Chaco Canyon of New Mexico were doing …. as they lived out in it for 10,000′s of years.”
So you are claiming that the Chaco Canyon culture is synonymous with Clovis culture? Since Chaco was most active around 900 AD, that would mean that they made it through the Younger Dryas relatively unscathed.
Sorry.. I’m not convinced.

Fantastic. Thanks for doing this, and thanks to the generous donor too!
Who is going to produce the show, etc? Bumper music, etc? I hope you have help so you can just be your usual relaxed, enjoyable self, Anthony. Break a leg.

What? And miss watching 2 canning jars heat up under intense heat lamps! And I can watch over and over, without having to fix my faulty audio.

I’d consider the get-together suggested by Jeff Alberts 7:07 pm in Western WA State but global warming has failed to make getting over Snoqualmie Pass in mid-November a sure thing. Safer to stay on the dry side.

Excellent. And nicely foreshadowed. I can’t wait to see the viewer comparisons. Maybe this will encourage Gore to crawl under a rock and disappear before he squanders all his ill-begotten wealth. Let’s hope Ben Bernanke follows him ASAP.

Thanks. This will be a most entertaining and hopefully enlightening event. Great line up.
Some discussion of the politics above. I would caution against making the event political in any way. Certainly not party political. If you make an issue of “Obama this” and “liberals that” then you are polarising the audience that, I hope, you would want to reach.
You want all people to be able to tune in and consider the science as it is delivered to them without them feeling they are being preached to by the GOP.
Unless the subject of the piece is exactly about the politicising of the science then I’d avoid it. Not everyone with a dog in this fight is American and those of us on the outside are not driven by politics when it comes to our understanding of climate issues. America is not as big a part of the world as America considers itself. But then you can only understand that from being on the outside of the patriotic fervour.
Personally I look at Romney and the Republicans, look at some of their policies regarding human rights and I find it amazing that there are human beings who could bring themselves to vote for people with such hatred, people who can’t separate faith from office or their own twisted morality from the act of using policy for the common good.. Then I look at their climate policy and even though I know it’s free-market-driven rather than science-driven I can see the positives.
I have no wish to bash America as I’ve been a frequent visitor and personally love many, many parts of it and its people. But politically it is a sewer.
Thankfully I’m from the UK & don’t have to make those choices.
Knowing how polarising the politics are in the US you run the risk of losing the very people you should be trying to reach if it’s seen as just another right-wing campaign for the presidency. In the real world there is no such thing as left and right. Like the climate, the issues are far too complicated to put in boxes.

Too bad this won’t be available until after the election, perhaps AG was told not to do his shtick before the election.

Great news Anthony.
An important step in getting some prominence for the side of the debat that the MSM doesn’t want the public to know about.

Couple of further suggestions
Do a Panel with Jo Nova, and warmist Psychobablist Stephan Lewandowski – Given the opportunity to debate Lewandowski, Jo I think would definitely be a show. After all Stephan is a great friend of WUWT sending all those surveys your way.
I second, third, forth, and fifth Prof Bob Carter – He’s a great speaker but also understands that the money wasted here is harming the poor and sick of the world; give him a joint gig with Will Kininmonth “Kininmonth headed Australia’s National Climate Centre at the Bureau of Meteorology from 1986 to 1998,[2] ” wikipedia – They both know each other and are very knowlegeable and approchable blokes.
You might even approach Andrew Bolt or Alan Jones as notable media identities here in Aus as presenters – though they might have restrictions on their ability to make such performances.
I think you need to send a Media Advice to Fox and Sky networks – Also each Capital city in Australia has a public access broadcaster for Aus, I’d propose a “Best of” compilation and book time on public access TV – We’d need a resident of each such city to coordinate.

Sweet. Well done. Nice lineup. I’ll be there –and I hope you archive it as well for later viewing.
I’m saddened that Dr. Walt Meir declined. I expect he would have been happy to appear and argue his case, and his superiors forbid him. My impression of Dr. Walt is that he’s a “happy warrior”, and I always respect those.

unfortunately, the MSM won’t let go of the meme.
imagine if they weren’t ***reluctant!
30 Oct: Sydney Morning Herald: Peter Hannam with Reuters: Sandy has lessons for Australia, BoM says
Scientists are ***reluctant to attribute any single weather event to the effects of global warming. Climate models, though, predict fewer – but more intense – major storms such as cyclones or hurricanes.
“This is the sort of thing we’re warning about increasing over time,” Dr Braganza said. “We are breaking records across metrics where we’d expect to break records as the planet warms.”
The bureau’s scientists are also interested in the period of very unusual pressure patterns over North America since the start of summer, notable for its extreme heat and the worst drought in many regions for decades. Some speculate that the extraordinary weather patterns may be linked to the record sea-ice melt across the Arctic that smashed records, Dr Braganza said…
Dr Will Steffen, a member of the Australian Climate Commission, noted that Sandy is only a category 1 hurricane, but the damage will likely be significant because of its huge size and the fact that its landing coincided with a high tide.
“Sea-level rises – the observed sea-level rise around the world over the past century, and the projections for further rises – are related to climate change,” Dr Steffen said.
“It is the combination of sea-level rise, storm surge (like the one coming in from Sandy on the eastern USA coast) and high tides that lead to the worst flooding events.”
“The point here is that even modest rises in sea-level – of just tens of centimetres – can lead to much higher probabilities of high sea-level events,” Dr Steffen said…
However, getting the broader message through that authorities everywhere need to consider the increased risk to lives and infrastructure from a warming climate is an issue that is likely to linger well after the storm event, he (Braganza) said…

This is what public service is really about!
MSM has not the power and controkl they think they have anymore. The internet has changed the game. People value thier independance and facts.
Congratiolations Andy and to all WUWT readers who know can become its watchers as well.
MSM is diggings one grave. This is a development that is gonna be copied if successful witch Im sure it will be. Im sure all sceptic blogs will help to distribute your programs/shows.

For a break from the science (how many times can you say “but it’s happened before” in 24hrs?) how about covering the investigation into Climategate?
Many people don’t realise what Climategate found; it is importanat.
And the idea that Tallbloke’s PCs could be impounded will certainly interest a few people who think they are the good guys.

WOW and more WOW
You could have some serious fun with the backgrounds have yourself by some of those lovely cuddly Polar Bears or atop a windmill, or for irony in front of one of those “Big Oil” company building from whence so much money goes to the sceptics (sarc)
But seriously this was worth the build up you gave it!
