Note: This letter to WUWT from Sherri Quammen was received today at at 1:47 PM PST and titled as: A “do it yourself” home global warming test. I present it in entirety, unedited, with appropriate citations for spelling and the original story. See follow up here. – Anthony
=============================================================
When I suggested (WUWT May 22nd, 2007) that Mr. Watts park his gas guzzler in the garage, close all the doors and leave his engine running, it was a humourous [sic] yet effective attempt to make a point to all the ney [sic] sayers that man has drastically affected this planet’s climate as well as it’s [sic] very fragile, life supporting eco-systems.
I merely suggested that he try a little experiment at home comparing the effects from the exaust [sic] of just one running vehicle on his health as well as the probable increase of temperature in his garage. He obviously knows that many folks have commited [sic] suicide doing this or he wouldn’t have avoided the real issue and instead call me a vitral [sic] filled leftist or what ever he said at the time. If one car in an enclosed area ( like the Earth’s atmosphere) can kill someone, then imagine what six billion running cars can do.
In just the short time that the government insued [sic] a no fly rule after 9-11 where no planes were allowed in US skies, there was over a one degree cooling of the atmosphere’s temperature or something like that. Can you see where I’m going with this, or am I just another tree hugging earth lover with my head in the polluted clouds? I’m pretty sure this won’t be printed. We can expect as much from a man paid by the corporations to be a weapon of mass deception.

If the 1 day no fly zone in 9/11 caused 1C drop to the temp, it is very big luck they ended it after only 24 hrs, or else, we could have slid into a new ice age within a week!
And Anthony, please post more of this stuff, it makes me laugh!
Sherri,
I liked your singing and guitar playing

If one car in an enclosed area ( like the Earth’s atmosphere) can kill someone, then imagine what six billion running cars can do.
So if I fire one bullet into a person’s brain it has to be a hundred times more damaging firing a hundred on a rifle range? That argument which is a direct equivalent of the car exhaust one is so ridiculous I really cannot believe even an idiot would consider using it. Why do the Eco believers have so strong a belief they cannot see how daft they look to others not of their religion?
In just the short time that the government insued [sic] a no fly rule after 9-11 where no planes were allowed in US skies, there was over a one degree cooling of the atmosphere’s temperature or something like that.
A similar one here showed that when there was a no fly time because of the dust cloud the official figures showed a two degree drop near here because the measurements were taken near an airport. Elsewhere on comparison sites merely a mile away there was a less than one degree drop.
All this proves is the the data collection network which was created for a totally different need is not actually fit for purpose when it comes to climate monitoring. This is something that data collection specialists in the engineering worlds have said since 1950.
the state doesn’t educate people it schools them
Well I’m calling fake on the letter. I think someone is setting Sherri up.
Has no-one else noticed the striking difference between the spelling and composition of the recent letter and the “australian gassing” one? Have we learnt nothing from the Fakegate incident??
Another possibility is she had over-weeded before writing……
REPLY: I did due diligence before publishing, checking out the email address to be sure it was hers and looking at the IP address. The letter your refer to was published in our local daily, and the editor, David Little, routinely corrects spelling and grammatical errors in letters hes publishes. I had no reason to suspect it was a fake letter. – Anthony
I think she has her temperature changes the wrong way round. I think they wen’t up during the no-fly period, lack of contrails and their cooling effect.
“I get letters”
Just not necessarily the right letters in the right order … 🙂
Yes Sherri, you are just another tree hugging earth lover with a polluted head … or something like that
BTW The Earth’s “ecosystem” is not at all fragile.
FAIL!

“The earth is fragile, Sherri? Really? Fragile?”
Perhaps Sherri could conduct an experiment. Jump out of a 10th floor window and when she hits the fragile earth below see who gets hurt more.
Granted this woman is a poster girl against social promotions in public school but it’s still churlish to point it out. And now I’ve joined the bandwagon and put my boorish suggestion online too. This sort of behavior is infectious.

A rare voice of reason. Good suggestion, Chris.
Eye think ewe should due an experiment two prove watt aye already no, that intelligence and the ability to right with know spelling miss steaks half no connection. Its certainly knot a strong correlation aze exists four temperature and see oh too. Sew park yore electric car in it’s garage and let it run until it’s battery is dead and tell me that it’s knot bad fore yore health.

On her Facebook page she likes George Orwell. Well. Didn’t see that coming. Whatever she likes by him, it certainly isn’t “Politics and the English Language.”
Not a bad thing in itself but maybe someone should have pointed out that 1984 was a warning and not a blueprint.

Well, certain parts of it are made of glass, so I guess that coud be partially true.
Indeed. Or perhaps exactly.

Quite so.
But she knows she spelt it right: cos her spellchecker told her so.

Reminds me of people who are mortally afraid of food cooked in microwaves.
When you try to clue them up, you then find that they lack so much basic knowledge about the world that even something as simple as a microwave is impossible to explain.
Ironically, greenies are almost always MW phobics, despite the MW being one of the most energy efficient and healthy methods of cooking food — they are certain some juju happens with that evil magnetron to produce poison. They are not sure how this mechanism of supposed food subversion actually works, just that it *does*.
So good luck trying to educate them on more complex science… 🙁
Ridicule is no cure either — we sure get a laugh out of it, but at the end of the day, we’re still left with people scared into hysteria and bad decisions by their ignorance and silly rumours. Shrinks will probably do a better job than scientists here, if it can be done at all.

Uh, Gail, uh, er…, not exactly. Easy to get confused there, however.

Well I’m a fan of robust un-mealy mouthed debate, and I have occaisional impulse control issues, sometimes I screen things and they look ok to me and other people get offended. But I’ve never suggested that someone gas themselves, and I’d be darn sure to refer to the correct chemical substance if I did. Whats the public cost of a public education in California nowadays…? Can’t have been a private school or the Grocer’s apostrophe would have been missing.

A little Googling of her name gained a little bit of insight… [SNIP: Interesting, and anyone is free to google, but we really don’t need to publicize this kind of stuff here. -REP]
Dear Sherri,
Thank you for your question and for providing the information needed to answer your question in full context.
Yes, you are just another sick misanthropic ignorant envirocrat.
I appreciate the opportunity to clear that up for you.

This is what we’re up against. Our children have this gook indoctrinated into them at an early age. It’s [notice correct use] an of us escape.

True, It is why I have advocated home schooling for years and even passed on information as to where to look into it on the internet. Heck as a student in junior high school I noticed the marked deterioration in education because I tutored.
Assuming your garage was airtight, the car would only run until the oxygen level became too low to permit detonation of the air/fuel mixture in the engines cylinders. You’d die from asphyxiation long before any carbon monoxide could kill you. Just thought someone should mention it.
