Paragraph Updated: This week we had stories about how climate indicators show that the globe is warming.
(7 or 11 depending on how confused you get by the story – H/t Matt at WUWT for helping me out here)
Not very controversial, you might say – but the slightly nutty tone attracted my attention – “See the climate is getting hotter therefore we are doomed” kind of thing. Not sure where the idea of breakfast cereal and Kool Aid Kats came from.
Talking of nutty flakiness, here is another story at Roger Pielke Jr on ‘Silly Science’ about the vast hordes of Mexicans that are set to invade the US as soon as it get too hot in Mexico. Why the penguin? Well, all the Colombians will be moving to Mexico and all the Ecuadorians to Columbia and all the Peruvians, etc etc…leaving Chile free to become home to all the Antarctic penguins – at least I think that’s the logic.

Matt has already made the point, but it bears repetition.
The opening statement, “This week we had stories about how 7 out of 11 climate indicators show that the globe is warming” is wrong. That means it is not true.

What is it with you that you cannot even report a simple message such as that without falsifying it? What is the point of making a statement that is so obviously, blatantly false. Is it incompetence or deliberate mendacity that leads you to utter such falsehoods?
ShrNfr, I knew you were kidding but if we have to relive the cold of my youth as it was in the 60s & 70s there could well be a bunch more of us climate refugees from the Great White North looking for relief. I wouldn’t mind being a winter Texan even now. 🙂
Matt, I think you are entirely correct and it is nice to be precise. My excuse is that by the time I had finished the article by Juliette Jowitt my head was full of seven sources for seven risings, and four fallings, all of which looked dubious, as they did to James Sexton too.
So I took a wild guess, which is probably all we can expect from climate science models.

It seems ridiculous just thinking about it now.
Isn’t it sad that a very natural and predictable 30 year Pacific Decadal Oscillation can be turned into ‘unstoppable’, ‘irreversible’ anthropogenic climate change!
Between 1880 and 2000 there were two interlaced global cooling episodes and two global warming episodes.
Guess where we’re heading now? Not just another global cooling episode, but a Grand Solar Minimum. Hold onto your hats and get out the snow shoes!

I wasn’t sure if RC references were frowned upon here, so I didn’t comment here about one of RC’s recent posts, entitled: Happy 35th birthday, global warming!
It was the first time I visited RC, just wanted to check out the competition, and it was the most recent post.

Actually all 11 indicators showed warming signals… but who’s counting.
It is currently 91F and the weather is glorious. Tell me again what’s wrong with heat? I’m loving it! Greets from the South of the U.S.A. Wife just made fried chicken, mashed potatoes and skillet gravy. Sittin’ down with ice tea for dinner. Watermelon to be served afterward. We will be sittin’ on the deck in full sunshine, soaking in the rays. Summer is wonderful. I hope I have enough wood cut for the coming winter. Winter always worries me, and they’ve been decidedly more worrisome these past 3 years. What will 2010-2011 be like? My cement driveway cracked last winter! Cold, cold, cold.
Did I mention how much we love the sun? Going outside now…

Wow! Little NH snow reported in recent years. Just picking the cherries?
Now who remembers 2009? Or, has it just been swept under the rug.
The “7 of 11” article had this disingenuous information:
“One key data set omitted was sea ice in the Antarctic, because it was increasing in some areas and decreasing in others, due to reduced ozone causing changes in wind patterns and sea-surface circulation. This data set showed no clear trend, said Stott. ”
No clear trend!?!?! No, more like a too-clear trend…up up up.
Why doesn’t the AGW crowd just whip up a study saying that the increasing Antarctic ice extent is due to increased precipitation, which is due to increased humidity, due to increased temperature, and we’re all going to die? It seems they’re missing an opportunity here.
NH snow cover for 2009 is in there, more than 2000, 2002, 2004, 2007 and 2008, but less than 2001, 2003, 2005, and 2006.
It’s a pretty noisy signal though

Manitoba Ken and ShNfr, Just a little interesting aside of your discussion, some of the most beautiful parts of Canada (albeit insect laden) are, as I am sure you are aware, called the Canadian Shield. Which just happened to be created by a mile thick layer of ice scraping the earth to the bedrock not that long ago, really. I have always thought “Survivor” should do a series in the Lake of the Woods region !! In the Shield there are two seasons known as Winter and Mosquito!!! I might watch the show then.
