From WUWT on October 7th: The surprising real story about this year’s Northeast passage transit: The media botched it
One newspaper is making the most of this “first ever event”, according to a story in the UK Register:
The Times has liberally papered London underground carriages with a fascinating new ad campaign. One poster shows a ship navigating some treacherous icy waters, with the accompanying copy reading:
Climate change has allowed the Northeast Passage to be used as a commercial shipping route for the first time.

The Times advertisment
Impressive – if only it were true.
In fact it wasn’t, and now the Times has been forced to recant:
From The Register
An advertising campaign touting the depth and quality of the Times newspaper’s environment coverage has been slapped by an industry watchdog for inaccuracy. The paper has agreed to modify the advertisements, which are based on a false climate change claim.
The Times ads claimed that global warming had caused the North East shipping passage, the icy Arctic route which in summer links Russia’s European ports to the Bering Strait, to be opened for the first time. In fact, the North East Passage opened in 1934, and was opened to overseas traffic after the fall of the Soviet Union. Modern technology, specifically radar, has permitted a safer passage in recent years.

As far as I can see, the Act on CO2 campaign is still running, in spite of a massive protest on the ASA site.
You might want to correct the title of this piece. There is no such newspaper as the ‘London Times’. The paper is called ‘The Times’, and is published nationally in the UK, not just in London.
Jimbo,
“Piers Corbyn of Weather Action said back in July 2090 –,”
Oh Jimbo, you’ve inadvertenly given away Piers Corbyn’s secret – He’s really a time traveller from the future.
Ha, I work in the offices of The Times and can tell you from listening to the gossip that floats around that a lot of people here don’t believe in manmade climate catastrophes.
On the passage open previously open, in 1942, Canadian Don Larsen and the wooden ship, St. Roch, sailed from west to east thru the northwest passage in 2 years, a year later he went back east to west, clear to the pacific with a more powerful engine in 86 days, in the early 1900’s Amundsen sailed thru in 2 years.
BBC Weather News special this morning.
Met Office drone in the studio.
Asked why their predictions of a warmer winter failed so badly?
Don’t be silly.
He was invited to congratulate the Met Office on predicting the new snowfall a whole day before it happened!
Which he duly did.
Two weeks from now global warming will be all but dead in the UK. Even the Guardian seems to have dropped the ball in the wake of the snow, cold, and Met Office fails.
Dear Anthony,
Please update the broken Jon Stewart link here

to this page:

Also, it would be great to have a separate page with all the climate humor videos…
Best Regards,

This is a good start.
Congrats to Vincent and others in the UK who are standing up for honesty and integrity in the media and science.
It is time to keep pressing on.
The public is now seeing through the AGW fallacy and the cynics promoting it, better than they have in years.
More truth, and more exposure, are what is needed.
Thing is, core greens aren’t interested in the propaganda anymore either.
“I am saying that the mainstream narrative on climate change is obviously failing.” — Former deputy editor of the Ecologist, Paul Kingsnorth
Basically the myth isn’t working and it is too late anyhow—societies will continue with growth and, he believes, hit the limit.
His advice? Prepare for the end of fossil fuels; no cars, no transport, no consumer goods. Build that small off-grid eco-house and band together in small communities to survive. (Personally I’d sooner an asteroid hit us.)

And Polar Bears don’t wear sunglasses and drink Coke to cool off.
Next you will tell me there is no Santa Claus and “climate change” goes both ways (AC/DC).
Here is an earlier passage.

The Daily Express has a good peice, it appears to be the only one of the MSM that is prepared to tell it as it is on the front page.
SNOW CHAOS: AND THEY STILL CLAIM IT’S GLOBAL WARMING.
AS one of the worst winters in 100 years grips the country, climate experts are still trying to claim the world is growing warmer.
With millions of Britons battling through snow and ice to get to work today, scientists claim that the cold conditions should not be used as evidence against man-made climate change.
Blizzards, ice and sub-zero temperatures that have gripped the UK for almost a month in a record deep freeze are not “robust” indicators of global weather patterns, they say.
Stephen Dorling, of the scandal-hit University of East Anglia’s school of environmental sciences, remained adamant that the weather should not be used as evidence against climate change.

I don’t know if that’s british humour or an excercise in doublethink. Maybe we can call it “climate innuendo”.
See National Geographic Arctic Ocean map supplement from October 1971 for info on NE passage.
Also February 1997 article “An Arctic Breakthrough”. This is the article on the Gore Box data release which gives a nice rundown on how the Russians have monitored the Arctic over a long time span.
Coincidence: I was just looking through a 30-year old atlas last night and I remember seeing the NE Passage plotted on the map of the polar region.
I guess there would not be a reason for plotting a route that did not come into existence until 2010…
OT, but I hate to see people suffer in the cold. This article describes how climate change™ is causing extreme cold, which is causing many deaths in Peru.

I also complained. This was something I could do. Making a stand, fighting a lie, whatever you want to call it, but it had to be done. Keep up the good work Anthony – I direct as many people as I can to your site – so they can make up their own minds.
Why is that people who claim to love the earth so much know so little about it’s natural history? The arctic has warmed and cooled many times in the last few centuries.
Do these people not know the world existed before they were born? Are these people aware the world has changed, is changing and will always be changing? I thought the belief in a steady-state universe was unscientific.

Nope, the website of the British Fascist party should not get more coverage, regardless of the subject matter.
Steve Goddard (05:37:14) :
“Two weeks from now global warming will be all but dead in the UK. ”
The politicians of all major parties are pretty much of one mind. Note the almost complete lack of dissent over the Climate Change Bill.
The public and some of the MSM are increasingly sceptical. When the heating bills for the current bout of global warming come in, they’ll be even more sceptical. Still, to say it will be all but dead in two weeks is, very optimistic in view of the amount of political capital sunk into the scam and the political consensus. And then of course, much of the UK’s stance on measures to combat AGW ties in with EU policy, which our idiots have been pushing.
So the Times is also part of the AGW scam. Hitler would have been proud of this propaganda conspiracy. Will the lies ever end? Ironic isn’t it that the BBC report enthusiastically on the big freeze without ever once mentioning climate change.
Yet when it ends we’ll get the same old warming rubbish. Socialism never gives up when it has found a way to raise tax.

A link to a bunch of racist bigots? No thanks.
@Varco
“I also wondered about the ‘keep this finding confidential’ in my response, but am happy that the regulatory authority have acted promptly to stop the use of this spurious claim…”
That part went straight off to my MP with a request to find out if it has become standard practice in government departments to suppress any news about complaints. No response yet.
I urge others who have received this letter to do the same – this looks like a point where the ASA are vulnerable, and official secrecy is probably a bigger story than a mis-claimed advert….
The SS Manhattan made the trip in 1969. An oil tanker made the NORTHWEST passage.
