Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama’s two daughters, Malia, 9, and Sasha, 6, are big fans of Hannah Montana – and maybe there’s a reason why.
Teen star Miley Cyrus, known as Hannah Montana in the Disney Channel TV series television of the same name, is now crusading for global warming alarmism. But she admits she isn’t really sure what it means. Disney also owns ABC, a network that often hypes climate change alarmism.
On the 15-year-old singer’s recently released album “Breakout,” she sings that she wants America to wake up and deal with global warming. The song, “Wake Up America” is about taking care of the earth:
Oh, can you take care of her
Oh, maybe you can spare her
Several moments of your consideration
Leading up to the final destination
Oh, the earth is calling out,
I wanna learn what it’s all about,
But everything I read – global warming, going green
I don’t know what all this means, but it seems to be saying
Wake up, America, we’re all in this together
It’s our home so let’s take care of it
You know that you want to
You know that you got to wake up, America
Tomorrow becomes a new day and everything you do
Matters, yeah, everything you do matters in some way
Cyrus is one of the current jewels in the Disney crown. But she isn’t alone. Disney purchased ABC in 1995, but the network recently has acquired a taste for global warming coverage.
The network’s weatherman Sam Champion and reporter Bill Blakemore are two of the consistent voices for hyping the issue. A recent Business & Media Institute study of media climate coverage highlighted a particular low in the network’s reporting. The ugliest treatment of a climate skeptic during the study period came from ABC’s Bill Weir on Nov. 18, 2007, “Good Morning America.” He was interviewing Democratic state representative Jim Gooch from Kentucky.
Weir peppered Gooch with hardball questions and even attacked Gooch’s motives, saying: “I should point out that your family is in business with the coal industry. You opposed a bill that would’ve stopped coal mines from exploding the tops of mountains and dumping waste into rivers there. So shouldn’t you temper on your opinion on the environment?”
Disney (NYSE:DIS) announced on July 30 its third-quarter profits rose nearly 9 percent with help from advertising revenues from the company’s cable presence including “Hannah Montana,” one of the most watched shows on cable.
The teen star herself faced some recent controversy after a photo shoot with renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz in a recent issue of Vanity Fair, which ironically had its own green issue. One controversial photo showed a topless Cyrus clutching a blanket to her chest, her back exposed, looking toward the camera over one shoulder.

Ahhh, I just puked in my mouth.
Hah!
Hot Air Head.
The “industry” (pop) thrives on these. The less meaningful (cryptic/ambiguous) the better. Pap music.
Using kids to promote politics is nothing new. Remember Jimmy Carter’s comments about Amy and nuclear weapons? Or the LBJ commercial in ’64 with the little girl and mushroom cloud?
I’m all in favor of taking care of the Earth. I don’t think I want al-Gore ‘taking care’ of me.
Curses on those who use children to promote their agenda. T’would be better if a millstone was tied around their necks, etc.
Here is the earth calling out. It aurora kilometric radiation.
ABC Green? More like hypocrites. ABC has a show called “Wanna Bet”? One of their stunts included a skier trying to skim across 2,500 eggs without breaking them.
2,500 eggs! That’s enough food to help feed 1,250 people for breakfast. They would rather waste all of that food for some stupid stunt.
What does that have to do with being green? I am not sure. But as a conservative, I hate when people waste food. I also hate being told about my carbon footprint by a bunch of lunatic hypocrites.
I am willing to reduce my footprint by not watching as much TV, ok ABC? Fair enough?
As Mr. Milloy at JunkScience would describe it, this is a real eye-roller.
All I can say is that if your carbon footprint isn’t big enough to create enough CO2 to grow enough food for you, your family and a third world family, then GET WITH IT!!!
I didn’t mean just a bunch of veggies. I mean steak & eggs for breakfast, ham & cheesewitch for lunch, grilled NYsteak for supper And a pizza for midnight chow.
Will my 7 year old dauter loves Hana Montaina/Milly Cyrus, but won’t be buying that CD for her.
America should first wake-up to the Neo-fascism that took over their government first.
But that is a science blog, not a political one!!!
I like the idea of emitting enough carbon to cover my own consumption footprint. Yeah, that’s the way to go. And if I want to feed a few families in Africa, I should emit more CO2. We all can be humanitarian and help the poor.
It’s important to get those kids indoctrinated at an early age. Someone has to carry the carbon-offsets-purchased-so-to-be-carbon-neutral torch one day…
If you know who
keeps provoking the country of
you know which
then a lot of CO2,
will be produced by the burning
of you know what
in the Gulf of
you know where.
I’m Bushed!
One day, these people will appear as fools in history books.
This is actualy much more interesting than Hannah California.

Off topic Fox news is showing artic ice drops to second lowest on record.Anthony what do you have to say about this ? Im sure theses paid of scientist are wrong because other sites are showing ice advancing .And the other sites show pictures too.Why does accuweather global warming blog always show ice as being purple? Also on the accuweather global warming site it says that 2008 cooler blame it on LaNina. Now we are headest into autunm but they say that this year should end up being the 10 warmest. Now if this winter turns out to be cold and snowy ,which the farmers almanic is saying with an 80 to 85 % accuracy rating, what will the global warming nuts say then?Natural variences .How many times do they get to use that statement before we say wait A minute is this really a natural varience or is something changing.Maybe A cool cycle is settleing in .
Glad I don’t have children.
Ok She’s just a kid. What’s Gore’s excuse?
I’d say she had joined the global warming band wagon but wagons are too plebeian for stars and pop princesses. Let’s just say she’s joined the global warming jet set. No carbon footprints, just vapour trails from all the hot air they spout.
Great, now we have a mindless teeny bopper leading the other mindless teeny boppers over the cliff like lemmings.
I think it is sickening when we force our (misguided) views on kids….of course, ABC (who owns Disney) is in the hip pocket with the ‘man-made’ global warming crowd. It was probably a management decision to have her record the tune.
For those who know her, they say she is actually a level-headed child..even with all this fame.

Oh, maybe you can spare her
Oh, maybe you can spare me.
Kids these days…
The biggest supporter of cap and trade, bartering hot air, before was, wait for it, try again, yeah, you got it — It was ENRON.
Ask Hanna if she wants to stop photosynthesis … Probably doesn’t even know what that means.
Democrats are famous for using air heads to try and fool the public.
Give her time, she’ll grow up to be just like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton.
America should first wake-up to the Neo-fascism that took over their government first.
Oh, stuff.
It has done nothing of the sort.
Americans say that all the time. But if it were anywhere near true, they wouldn’t get away with saying it.
The day everyone all of a sudden STOPS saying that all the time, THEN I’ll start worrying!
