Let me know when you find a web site that pays me to download carbon offsets. That will change my opinion of them forever.
A friend sent me this article quationing the effect of carbon credits.
My favorite part of the article was this quote from Denis Hayes (founder of Earth Day, recently visited Chico, global warming advocate, peak oil advocate, etc, etc)
At this rate, environmentalists say, buying someone else’s squelched emissions is all but insignificant.
“The worst of the carbon-offset programs resemble the Catholic Church’s sale of indulgences back before the Reformation,” said Denis Hayes, the president of the Bullitt Foundation, an environmental grant-making group. “Instead of reducing their carbon footprints, people take private jets and stretch limos, and then think they can buy an indulgence to forgive their sins.”
“This whole game is badly in need of a modern Martin Luther,” Mr. Hayes added.
Hayes is hardcore, and believes that we should do things like base car prices on the cost of melting ice-caps. But you have to respect the guy’s honesty with regards to carbon credits.
You won’t find that honesty among all proponents of global warming.
