Friday Funny – Congressional Frosh

Elmer Beauregard of Minnesotans for Global Warming writes in with today’s funny: M4GW’s Newest Song – I’m a Denier

He writes:

It’s a parody of “I’m a Believer” written by Neil Diamond and performed by the Monkees. This version was written by Elmer Beauregard and Brian D. Smith and performed by Elmer and the M4GW players.

This song is in honor of all the new Republican Freshman entering Congress and the Senate most of whom are Deniers and proud of it.

I think this is song may be our “Tour de Farce”

Well at least he didn’t choose Manfred Mann’s “Blinded by the light”. Watch below.

  1. Michael Mann is playing drums for a Climate Denier band?

    Wow, we win?

(I know it can’t be him, but it does look like him. . . )

“Climate Denier” as the new “Yankee Doodle Dandy”?

  2. The landscape behind the band is classic midwestern glacial terrain formed by the deposition of rocky debris picked up during glacial advance and then dropped as the great continental glaciers melted and retreated. Without climate cooling to let the ice sheets form, and then climate warming to cause the glacial melt such landscapes wouldn’t exist. Wait a minute, that must mean that in the past, natural causes must have the climate changing. We know from AGW that must be impossible. LOL

  3. I think that could be their best! I like the original song anyway. What’s up with that chicken? Nice outfit. Probably helps with those cold November nights in Minnesota, home of the lovely and talented Michele Bachmann. Go M4GW!

  4. Brilliant. Great lyrics and well performed.
Once we start laughing at ‘them’ the battle is more than half one.
Laughing at old Adolf and his team cheered everyone up during WW2.

  5. Layne, I think the bird is Chicken Licken.

Great band, great track, but I think they should have put out a call here for a girlie chorus.

  6. Climate is complex, and so are we
    We all have many facets
But the rough divide about Alarm
    Splits us in two segments.

One of these is not much fun
It wants to scare the kids
    The other is more cheerful
    And produces the best vids

It is the best for humour
    For writing and cartoons
As it grapples with the miseries
    Foretelling glooms and dooms.

    So with the Friday Funny
May it give a little cheer
Tho’ but for that other side
We’d be somewhere else, not here.

How did they get Mann to do the drums?

Incriminating photos of Dr. Mann with naked tree rings.

They were quite revealing, and disturbing. Some looked like they were having a tree-ring circus.

  8. A friend of mine from Minnesota sent it to me today – a good laugh – especially Mr Mann lookalike on drums!

  9. Happy Days

This could make it to No 1 in the UK charts. A big round of applause from Staffordshire, England. Thank you M4GW for making my day.

The landscape behind the band is classic midwestern glacial terrain …

    Moraine or esker?

One thing that we can’t deny is that the warmistas provide us with easy pickin’s. It will take the start of glaciers in the heart of the continent to get them off their [CO2] greenhouse gas induced paranoia. Unfortuately, it may come to that, the way that the temperature record has been Hansenized to show warming no matter what.

In the meantime, I have another reason to like the Republicans. ☺

  11. It appears nearly everyone has come away with the same impression…who knew Michael Mann could play drums?

This is even funnier than “Hide the Decline” which was purged from YouTube because Mann got his knickers all in a twist.

  12. I guess Mann is getting ready for the final collapse of AGW and the end of the money train it has brought him.

He is good with the hockey sticks. That takes skillz.

  13. Good work lads! You provide hope that in some future moment we here in Minnesota will be remembered for something other than inflicting Al Franken and Jesse Ventura on the world.

  14. Oh-oh, MM is not gonna like that likeness of him. Glass of water for MM.
I agree, I think it’s the best yet. We get videos like these, and they get red buttons blowing people who don’t agree to smithereens. Our side is way cooler. And right, to boot!

  15. Bloody good laugh, thanks M4GW. In one brilliant effort you have removed the stigma of the D word and poked fun at it. Marvelous!

  16. So can Michael Mann sue them for using a stage double of Michael Mann that looks more like Michael Man than the actual photograph of Michael Mann used in Hide the Decline?

I love M4GW and this new music video is excellent as usual.

“This is even funnier than “Hide the Decline” which was purged from YouTube because Mann got his knickers all in a twist.”

I don’t think the purge was ever 100% effective. MG4W removed the instance they themselves put on youtube and took down the instance on their own website but there was nothing they could do (or wanted to do) to stop anyone else.

Here is an original copy with 105,000 plays that’s been up 10 months now:

Hide the decline can still be viewed. Just google it and it pops up. I agree, it is quite good as well.

  19. M4GW could certainly teach the 10:10 zealots a thing or two about how to make your points in a genuinely funny way.

  20. At 0:19, when the guy standing there with the hockey stick’s face becomes recognizable; I about fell out of my chair!!! It took me a few seconds to realize that’s not M(he who must not be named)M.

The whole thing is great; from the very ironic glacial terrain to the Benny Hill ending and everything in between.

    Congrats M4GW, well done.

    Too funny, happy Friday!

“Oh-oh, MM is not gonna like that likeness of him.”

Good thing Mikey can’t sue because the drummer happened to look a bit like him (much better looking than MM, IMO).

    Love it Elmer! Congrats again!

Thanks for posting, Anthony. I haven’t been on You Tube for a while so I would have missed it.

  22. I vote grammy and oscar…

“I’m a Denier”, written by Elmer Beauregard and Brian D. Smith and performed by Elmer and the M4GW players

Best song of the year, best artists of the year, Best video of the year

  23. Wonderful. You know, Michael Mann always acts like such a jerk and yet here he is showing what a good sport he is. Well done, Michael.

Now do it for real and not rely on a doppelganger.

Dr. Watkins, you’re absolutely right. I offer a WWII example, sung to the tune of Colonel Bogey (tune whistled decades later in the film, “Bridge on the River Kwai”:

    Hitler has only got one ball;
    Goering has two, but they are small;
    Himmler has something similar,
But Dr. Goebbels has no balls
    At all.

    It still cheers me up.

That was good! And I didn’t know Michael Mann played the drums…

Yo, bro! Hockey stix, drum stix, he da mann, an’ da mann be good wit wood.

  26. Hey, isn’t Minnesota known for their love of hockey? I hear Mr. Mann is pretty good with a hockey shtick. Maybe a good match…

    Regards..

  27. Layne Blanchard:

the chicken is Chicken Little, who shows up at M4GW events, letting everyone know that the earth is warming and the world is about to end.

  28. Actually, I just realized Mann turned in his hockey shtick for a drum shtick…

    (rimshot heard in the background)
    (couldn’t resist).

    Regards..

  29. Thank you M4GW.
If Michael Mann is willing to sue to prohibit the use of his image in M4GW productions the drummer presents a lot of opportunity for using a double instead of Michael Mann images? A real-life double provides even more flexibility than images.

  30. Just got to love the M4GW, they are great.
Have you seen the up-dated “Hide the Decline” video, with the “I’ll sue” references?

  31. M4GW rules!! – Take it away Michael!

“There was a crooked Mann. Who walked a crooked mile. He had a crooked stick. And he wore a crooked smirk”

  32. elmer says:

Commiserations to your drummer mate. Could be in for a bit of stick once the general public realises what da Mann did.

Think it was a vocoder not auto-tune. Has to be an extreme correction to have that effect, (a la Cher).

    DaveE.

  33. A great follow up to “Hide the Decline”. Another chart topper for sure. Now I’ve got two songs I can hum in shower.

Great job Elmer and M4GW from a fellow Minnesnowdan.

  34. The MM doppleganger was good, but I was somewhat disappointed by the lyrics, which could have better matched the original, something like

    I thought warming wasn’t just a fairytale
    Everyone would cook, including me
Heat was out to get me,
    That’s the way it seemed
Fear of frying haunted all my dreams.
    Then I saw the light,
    Now I’m a denier,
Not a trace of doubt in my mind

    etc

  35. If you have,”not a trace of doubt in my mind”, then you cannot be a sceptic… “got a little doubt in my mind”, more appropriate, unless you really are a “denier”

  36. OK, which web-savvy individual is going to start a Rage-Against-The-Machine-style viral campaign to get this to the UK No1? Let’s get everyone laughing and listening. The UK could use some good humour and common sense about now …

  37. Real art from AWG, excellent work 2010 just keeps on getting better. Up here the Premier of British Columbia just quit and the Canadain Minister of the Enviroment did too. Both AWG bedwetters (the better to tax you with my dear). Of course there is no connection to the Republicans win in your recent election (Bless you all) For our politicos will follow your lead and so you have helped us out bigtime once again. Thanks again.

  38. I must have viewed “Hide the Decline” at least 30 times, and this is another keeper. Well done M4GW – thanks for another video that prompts repeated LOLs! There’s no decline in your talents to hide! :-)

  39. ROFLMAO!!!

Mann, that was awesome! Maybe Michael Mann was trying to make up for the hassel over Hide the Decline. Think he could sue to force them to cover up the double’s face? He’s priceless! (you have to kinda feel sorry for the guy, who’d want to look just like MM, considering ClimateGate and all?)

Ok, but who is the guy with the super long hair supposed to be? I think they needed a little better Gore mask, but heck, I’m not complaining – they got me rockin’ over here, with a huge grin on my face.

Anthony, thank you so much for posting this!!

  40. Well done Elmer!

Minor hiccup with the lyrics. They should be:

    There’s a trace
    Of doubt in my mind.

And commiserations to the drummer. We all have a burden to bear.

I’d use the song as my theme but I’m an infidel and active heretic.

  41. As someone who grew up in north-central ND and remembers (not fondly) what 45-50 degrees BELOW zero F. felt like: I’ll always have a soft spot for my M4GW neighbors to the east. People who are from parts of the country where 15 degrees ABOVE zero F. is a really cold day have NO IDEA what 50 below feels like. . . .

  42. maybe M4GW can do this one:

Imagine there’s no cold in the Arctic
    It’s easy if you try
    Warming at the South Pole
Above us polar bears that have died

    Imagine all the stations
    Recorded, not repor-or-or-orted

You may say I’m a believer
But I’m not the only one
I hope some day you’ll join us
And the world will live as drones

    Imagine there’s no money
    Only serfdom everywhere
    Al Gore in a Gulfstream
    Pachauri in a bed

    Imagine all the people
    In Zhivago ho-ome-steads

    Yo-o-o-o-ou

You may say I’m a believer
But I’m not the only one
I hope some day you’ll join us
And the world will live as drones

    Imagine cat 5 hurricanes
    Tornadoes from the sky
    Floods, dust storms, and starvation
    Children only cry

Don’t think so? There’s no pressure,
    Red button, you will di-i-i-i-i-ie

You may say I’m a believer
But I’m not the only one
I hope some day you’ll join us
And the world will live as drones

    Imagine there’s no science
    An Inconvenient is the Truth
The IPCC the only text book
    The consensus thinks for you

    Imagine all the pupils
    Learning controlled view-ew-ew-ew-ew-ews

You may say I’m a believer
But I’m not the only one
I hope some day you’ll join us
And the world will live as drones

  43. Not bad… well actually it is. It’s awful! I support the sentiments fully, but come on folks, we can do better than this, can’t we? They can’t sing or play, and what’s with the wonky Autotune at the end? My point is: how is the media expected to take notice of this when it’s so amateurish? (And no it doesn’t take any sort of big money to be able to actually play and sing, just basic talent.)

Sorry, I was just very disappointed.

  44. “David, UK says:

It’s no more amateurish than Al Gores’ mocumentary on global warming IMO.

  45. David, UK says:

Come on, David, lighten up. It’s humor, and not meant to be high art. Sure, it’s a bit goofy- that is part of its charm, and adds to the humor.
It’s become easier to laugh and poke fun at the Warmistas, especially since they are losing, and keep providing the skeptics/climate realists (aka “deniers”) with such great material, for which we should thank Gore, MM, hansen, et al. The Warmistas are indeed their own worst enemies.

  46. very funny. I went to the website and found Frozen Wasteland, also very funny and well done. Got to love it….especially the MM drummer…THANKS.

OT:I just did a parody on Keith Olbermann on You Tube. If you cant stand him, it is pretty good i think. Click my name above…

Second the motion. (Hearing aids…both ears and it still doesn’t help much with computer videos. TV is always on close-captioned).

The visuals sure take you back to the old “Monkees” shows. That bit at the end with the pointless chase in the field was classic “Monkees,” however someone pointed out above that it was typical of a Benny Hill ending. I’m thinking Benny Hill was first with that bit.

  48. @dave wendt

‘You provide hope that in some future moment we here in Minnesota will be remembered for something other than inflicting Al Franken and Jesse Ventura on the world.’

As an occasional visitor from UK to Rochester, Mn, I was always under the impression that you also laid claim to Bob Dylan and The Artist Formerly Known As…….

For which, along with M4GW, I think your state can claim some considerable kudos.

  49. @jimmi

‘Hmmmm, Doesn’t this imply deniers are a load of Monkeys…’

Nope. In honour of the writer of the original song, they are Diamond Geezers.

    ———-

Excellent! I e-mailed M4GW last Christmas to suggest that they could use “Imagine” to make a great spoof song – it could hit on many levels, too! I like your version.

  51. To Lucy Skywalker:
    Here are the lyrics …

Thought the Earth was heatin’ up like a Foreman grill
I thought the poles were meltin’ like a fondue pot
    I was a greenie weenie
    I hated SUVs
I used to cringe when cows would cut the cheese.

    Then I checked the facts
    Now I’m a denier
    We can all relax
    The planet’s just fine
    It was all a hoax
    (Ooh …) I’m a denier, the world’s not on fire, it’s just a lie.

It turns out global warming’s just a Ponzi scheme
Seems the more lies they told the more money they got
    They got Nobel prizes
    And an Oscar too
Seemed like there was nothin’ we could do

    Then came Climategate
    Now I’m a denier
    There is no debate
    Or doubt in my mind
    It was all a hoax
(Ooh!) I’m a denier, the world’s not on fire, it’s just a lie.
    Well, all right …

    (Instrumental)

    They got Nobel prizes
    And an Oscar too
Seemed like there was nothin’ we could do

    Then came Climategate
    Now I’m a denier
    There is no debate
    Or doubt in my mind
    It was all a hoax
(Ooh!) I’m a denier, the world’s not on fire, it’s just a lie.

    Then came Climategate
    Now I’m a denier
    There is no debate
    Or doubt in my mind
I’m a denier yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah …
    I’m a denier
    Yeah, I’m a denier …
    Etc.

  52. I always appreciate the M4GW guys. It is great to be able to poke fun at something that too many people take way too seriously.
As far as it being a little campy, lighten up Chester. It is supposed to be in fun. No it isn’t the Minute Waltz, but it is quite entertaining.
Best wishes to the M4GW guys from your neighbor Northern WI.

  55. Hehehe, excellent. But just in the interests of accuracy, Anthony: “Blinded by the Light” belongs to Bruce Springsteen :)
