EU’s NetZero Gets “Greenlashed” – A Reckoning in the Making – The Climate Realism Show #115

Heartland Icon

The Heartland Institute

Greenlash is defined as a backlash against clean energy transition. Others, such as farmers that have been straddled with restrictions, call it reverting to common sense. In the European Union there has been quite a protest movement pushing back and in Belgium farmers won that battle.

Now it is moving to politics. The New York Times recently reported. “After years of political consensus on the transition to cleaner energy, a ‘greenlash’ began bubbling up as prices rose and right-wing candidates gained ground.”

Dr. Benny Peiser of The Global Warming Policy Foundation has been following NetZero efforts for years, and he joins us as a special guest.

We will tackle this subject, as well as go over the Crazy Climate News of the Week. Tune in LIVE for the stream at 1 p.m. ET (noon CT) to watch the show and leave your own questions in the chat with host Anthony Watts, along with panelists H. Sterling Burnett and Linnea Lueken.

The farther the pendulum is swung into climate lunacy the farther it will swing on the return stroke. And the more the radical left will complain about the radical right when it does.

What I hope happens is more people start to question the CC narrative and demand empirical evidence to back up the claims. As long as the CC narrative didn’t affect their lifestyle people were quick to get on board with it, often claiming “it’s the science”, but when asked to actually bleed for it they’ll want proof. And I’ve said this before ….. you don’t see skeptics becoming CC believers once they’ve seen the light.

A large portion of the people do not want to hear anything about evidence. Many are very effective at deflecting to some other topic when evidence productions seems ready to enter the conversation. This is he kind of thing they will instead readily believe

Greenlash is defined as a backlash against clean energy transition.

What clean energy transition? Transitioning from coal to natural gas was clean. What we have now is forced transition from reliable to unreliable sources.

Renewable energy is not clean. Just because there are no direct emissions from a windmill doesn’t make it clean.

When they burn you have direct emissions.

Meanwhile to produce cheaper Europe has been moving most of its industry to China. Even most of europe’s medicines are produced in China. And all that stuff has to be shipped to Europe. Net Zero is a lie.

But we will not use Russian oil and gas, because that would make Europe dependent.

G’day Robert,

But we will not use Russian oil and gas…”

Somewhere in the past 48 hours I read that since the export of LNG from the US has been ‘pidenized’, the major supplier of LNG to Europe is – drum roll please – Russia. Ouch…..

(That’s an upside down lower case “b”, about all the bloke deserves. I don’t like the individual, or those indulging in ‘elder abuse’.)

Not everyone is ready for the inevitable transition from natural gas to nuclear here in America and from coal to nuclear in Asia. Europe is “pending”. Here’s my latest decline/delete from over at Quora that arrived a few hours ago.

So why are European utilities cutting renewables targets?

Diminishing returns requiring higher support prices, firming (gap filling) and other imposed costs (underutilized conventional on standby needing subsidies to avoid write-off and shutdown), These issues have brought a realization that low carbon electrical generation cannot be achieved without nuclear. It was never complicated, and now it is glaringly obvious. The new EU elections will enable a paradigm shift in energy policy IMHO.
