Spain pledges to phase out nuclear power by 2035

From NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW THAT

By Paul Homewood

Welcome to the Madhouse!

Spain is aiming to close its nuclear plants by 2035, joining a small number of developed countries pledging a nuclear phaseout as others look to invest further into the energy source.

The government confirmed the plans, Reuters reported, as it introduced energy measures relating to renewable energy. The shutdown of the plants will begin in 2027, and their deconstruction — which is estimated to cost 20.2 billion euros, or $22.4 billion — will be paid for by the plants’ operators, according to government officials.

Spain’s nuclear fleet consists of seven operating reactors, generating about a fifth of its electricity.

Spain joins other nations, such as Germany and Switzerland, in pledging to move away from nuclear power. Earlier this year, Germany closed down its last three remaining power plants after promising more than a decade ago to phase out nuclear energy.

The world, including the insaneopoluza COP proceedings have just declared a recommitment to nuclear, so I’m unclear on why Spain is doing this

Great. Four years before they have to take any meaningful action and in the mean time they can join the bandwagon of frivolous zealots pledging to save the Earth from a nonexistent threat. 2035 will be an entirely different world and probably one where any mention of CAGW will be met with a psych assessment and possible confinement. The perpetrators of the scheme will be seen as economic and social saboteurs not dissimilar from those who shamelessly launched one pyramid scheme after another to defraud hard workers of their wealth and future.

The attached shows various countries energy consumption by source. I have coloured all fossil fuels as black, nuclear as red, hydro as blue and ‘green’ as green. There doesn’t appear to be enough nuclear across the board and Spain can ill afford to throw away nuclear.

Utter madness!
What are they going to replace it with? They can’t really believe wind and solar power will replace them.

It’s 15 years away. The pledge to shut them down made now has no meaning whatsoever.

This is a testimony of the staying power of nukes.

I love the rich culture of Spain. However, I was very frustrated with their technical competence when I worked at nuke plants in Spain.

I am not surprised that my first commercial nuke in the US is still going strong. I am surprised the plant in Spain is still running 40 years later.

How daft can people get on energy – apart from the Australians that is.

When people do things like this, it is proof that they have gone totally Nuts. Where is Don Quixote to attack the Windmills and Solar Panels. Or has he too gone Nuts?

Of course, Germany fell back on coal, ‘brown’ coal at that.

Lat./Long: 50.900,6.500 shows a couple of the mines, open cut.

Between those two and Cologne to the east there’s a string of mines, running roughly NW/SE. The spaces between them were heavily defended during WW2. When taken, at least one of the powerhouses had Westinghouse generators.
