Major Media Plans a Massive Collusion-fest to “Get their Stories Straight” on Climate Change

Originally posted on ClimateREALISM

The Columbia Journalism School of New York City has announced a media seminar “Climate Changes Everything – Creating a Blueprint for Media Transformation” to be held September 21 and 22, 2023. The tagline for it reads: “Join leading journalists from around the world for an unprecedented conversation about how to cover a world on fire.”

They start out with a lie, the world isn’t “on fire” at all. To say this sort of media collusion to “get their stories straight” on climate is wrong, would be an understatement. This seminar violates virtually every principle as defined by the American Press Institute in their “The elements of journalism” definitions, especially the tenet “Its practitioners must maintain an independence from those they cover.” With this sort of collusion, independence on the topic of climate change essentially disappears.

The press release for it, from their webpage, is below:

Reporters, editors, and news executives from Agence France-Presse, the Associated Press, CBS News, Puerto Rico’s Center for Investigative Journalism, France Télévisions, the Guardian, South Florida’s NBC 6, NowThis, Telemundo, TIME, The Times of India, and The Weather Channel — among many other outlets, large and small — will join with hundreds of colleagues to chart a course for tackling the climate story in ways that drive attention and impact while highlighting solutions and justice.

  • Hear from newsrooms innovating to meet the moment: How can news outlets everywhere treat climate change as a story for every beat, not just silo it on the weather desk?
  • Discuss whether news outlets should still take fossil fuel advertising, and how journalists can grapple with climate disinformation.
  • Look ahead to 2024 elections that will have profound implications for global climate action. How can journalists make those implications clear to voters, refute misinformation, and hold candidates accountable?
  • Learn from journalists covering and living in frontline communities how to highlight climate justice in our reporting.
  • Recognize that telling the entire climate story means not just including solutions — but interrogating those solutions, so the public and policymakers know which ones actually work.
  • Plus, get a front row seat to interviews with special guests and global climate luminaries.

CLIMATE CHANGES EVERYTHING will be a participatory event, with networking breaks, a town hall, and working sessions on key conference themes.

We’re at a moment of historic opportunity for journalism. Climate coverage around the world is better than ever, but so much more is needed: more energy, more creativity, more commitment. Let’s forge a path forward, together.

###

Despite decades of coordinated effort by the most-powerful media outlets in Western society, voters still put “climate change” dead last of their priority list in polls. That is something significant that the media is ignoring with this new push. Or, perhaps it worries them.

It could be the progressive elites that control global information are so worried that voters “simply don’t care” enough about climate that they feel the need to redouble their coordinated efforts to hyperbolize the climate crisis. This arguably good news, suggesting that efforts like those undertaken daily at Climate RealismWattsUpWithThat, and many other climate realist efforts for the past three decades have not been in vain. This principled and often lonely work of climate realists to speak truth to power has been effective, at least when you compare it to the sort of budgets these media giants have.

The low-funded David has struck the massively funded Goliath … if not with a kill shot, at least one that wounded him and got him worried that he might lose. The bravery of climate skeptics worldwide has proven more powerful than media because we have the truth on our side. Why? Because of what Goliath didn’t expect from us: climate skeptics have the courage to say the truth, and never stop no matter the cost.

While the Media writes about the supposed “consensus” and “settled science,” climate realists point out that consensus is a political, not scientific term and that science is never “settled.” On the question of catastrophic climate change, following the scientific method, testing theories against data, indicates that no such crisis is in the offing. Most types of extreme weather events are not getting worse.

The only thing keeping the “climate crisis” narrative afloat this long is the influence of wealthy elites in Western nations and the power-hungry politicians beholden them who keep pouring taxpayers money into the climate scheme for the purposes of gaining power by trying to control energy. Eventually, the climate panic will end. The Soviet Union was considered even more permanent than the United States and the Western capitalist model, for at least two generations. Yet it fell, like the climate crisis will, because the “science” of communism and socialism was as fraudulent as the “science” that says humans are causing a climate catastrophe.

But they’ve “Got The Power” and the tools. Having the power is the lamest justification for doing anything but it’s solid gold now, especially if the problem is us and they need to save a world being ruined by us. Be sure we will pay for it and it will be profitable.

What is ironic about this Climate media conference is it seems a day late and a dollar short. The media and Tech companies are already unified in the propaganda approach. I guess the next wave would be far more transparent because they think it will fly and build a bigger cadre.

Time to put our antitrust laws into practice. Propaganda is a product that is for sale…content, venue and dissemination as well and strategies. All products in the market of mind control that we pay for.. Time to bust it up.

The consequential player in spreading the climate narrative are the government apparatchiks, who have an unknown amount of influence over the media and tech players. Licensing or anti-trust makes for something of a cudgel to intimidate “private” players.

Ok, so the solution is political only? I agree it is political. But take the last administration as a case in point. What happened? That administration was put under a well orchestrated unified full full court press in all medias from day one and then the pandemic which changed everything. Nothing that is being said about the pandemic can be completely trusted. I wish the solution was solely political. It would feel like the 1980’s again and I would be far more hopeful.

Are there no market forces involved? the conference is all about creating a new product for sale or be bartered. There are about 12 people who own the lions are of America’s media. They are far more powerful than the apparatchiks in Biden’s administration. They are calling the shots here. Time to take both political and legal action.

Yes. The solution is political. It’s no use swapping carts and drivers back and forth. Nothing changes. Doing the same thing and expecting different results is madness. Change begins with self. The voter needs to vote for only the best independent candidates. Political parties of all stripes are the real enemy of sense and democracy.

Well, I suppose if we’ve already got “global boiling” per the UN, then “world on fire” must be true too.

The thing is, the more shrill and ridiculous the claims, the more that ordinary sentient adults look around and conclude “I am not boiling, and I am not on fire – I’m doing pretty damned fine as long as the Democrats stop inflating our currency.”

The problem is the government spending deficit, as long as that continues at the pace it is today, Inflation is inevitable, whether we get recession rather than later, depends on whether the Fed tries to fight the inflation or not.

But, the destruction of our energy sector continues under the radical Democrats and I don’t see any Republicans calling them out on it. So where is this tide turning?

Don’t confuse the transition to renewables with belief that climate change is going to be catastrophic. Ultimately we need to move away from fossil fuels and the underlying reasons dictate the speed at which that must happen. If climate change is off the table then we can proceed at a pace that makes most sense.

While it is true that we will ultimately have to move away from fossil fuels, that day is hundreds of years in the future.
Forcing us to get off of fossil fuels before there is an economic replacement is the heights of folly. Once there is an economic replacement, nobody will need to force that transition.

True but we should move away from less dense to more dense fuels. Nuclear could lesson the demand and lower the cost of liquid fuels. There is not reason most ocean going ships are not powered by nuclear power. The same is for the grid. The only down side it the reduction of CO2 emission after all the earth need more CO2, not less.

While it is true that we will ultimately have to move away from fossil fuels, that day is hundreds of years in the future.

There is maybe 50 years worth of oil and gas left and 130 years of coal at current rates of usage. You could argue more coal and gas but it doesn’t matter.

The critical point is that its at current usage rates. Consider this:

For gas, the US uses 84 cubic feet per capita annually but China uses only about 5 and India about 1 averaging about 3 cubic feet for about 3B people. China and India’s combined populations are about 9x the population of the US so if their energy standard of living were to increase towards that of the US then the reserves are effectively less than one half of one percent of what you think.

For coal, China actually uses more coal per capita than the US but India uses about 1/3. So for India (with its 4x population compared to the US) to get to the same energy use in terms of coal, the usage rate of use goes up so that reserves are about 8% of what you think.

So if we assume usage in China and India will increase as they continue to modernise then reserves are much less than you think.

You personally can take pride in the large significance that WUWT has provided to those who know how science should progress. Journalists need reminding of how reporting should progress, for the best societal outcome.
Life swings, pendulum-like, but all pendulums need nudges to combat the reality that perpetual energy devices are fakes. You and the WUWT team provide nudges, one after another, to keep the Life system away from terminal loss of drive. That it important, though progress can seem frustratingly slow at times. The effort is appreciated, particularly by folk like me with age enough to meet wisdom and to have gained experience from having done many acts hands-on, rather than writing blind theory of how to do them better.

The linked story below is old, from February of last year. It talks about the climate coverage payoff the AP received for what they call “philanthropy.” I call it corruption. If memory serves, I think CNN received a climate coverage payoff from someone as well some time back.

Climate grant illustrates growth in philanthropy-funded news | AP News

“The Associated Press said Tuesday that it is assigning more than two dozen journalists across the world to cover climate issues, in the news organization’s largest single expansion paid for through philanthropic grants.”

If CNN, AP and others expect us to believe that these “philanthropic” payoffs don’t give them additional incentive to be mouthpieces for the climate alarmist narrative, they have a poor understanding of human psychology.

Arguable, most journalists today aren’t real journalists. When you watch the nightly news on the mainstream networks, most of the news these days is coverage of the weather or natural disasters, reading press releases that were faxed to them, political press conferences, or celebrity interviews. There is almost no reporting of hard news stories like the war in Ukraine. My impression is that most of the J-school reporters like to editorialize but aren’t good at gathering real news.

They are leftwing propagandists. Have been for decades. There are very few real journalists practicing today. There are some, though.

Now, the leftwing propagandists are all going to get together on the same climate change page.

I estimate I see at least a dozen climate change horror stories in my newsfeed every day. I guess this get-together by all the propagandists means I’ll be seeing twice as many climate change horror stories.

If you didn’t know anything about human-caused climate change other than the headlines, you would be convinced it is real and happening now, because that’s what the “news” is telling you. A torrent of misinformation about the Earth’s climate is being put out, and I guess there’s more to come in the future.

We at WUWT are going to have to debunk this climate change insanity twice as fast! 🙂

The only difference between “journalists” today, and “journalists” in past decades, is that today’s “journalists” no longer feel they need to hide their biases.
Even back in the 60’s, if you compare what was covered to historical records of what was happening at the time, you will see clear patterns in what was covered and what was ignored.

Yes, “journalists” in the 1960’s lied so much about the Vietnam war, that it caused me to volunteer to go to Vietnam just to see for myself whether the U.S. was losing the war, as the “journalists” claimed, or not.

My worldview was that North Vietnam was not capable of defeating the U.S. military, and our leftwing “journalists” were telling a different story every day in the news.

So I went to Vietnam and found out that the “journalists” were lying about the war for political purposes, and that’s when I realized I could not trust what the Media was saying.

And I’ve been skeptical of everything they say ever since, and with very good reason, because these liars lie about everything political. The Truth is not in them.

I’m wondering why the climate alarmists seem to be in a panic?

The reason has to be that China and India and a lot of other nations are not going along with climate change self-destruction, because the climate alarmist journalists don’t have to worry about their domestic audience. Their domestic audience is just sitting back and letting the climate alarmists in government run the show, so there’s nothing to complain about domestically. https://wattsupwiththat.com/2012/03/10/moncktons-schenectady-showdown/

Neither Monckton nor CFACT (who hosted the livestream and a subsequent video file) are in possession of a copy.

Can anyone help?

Sounds like one of the most propagandistic festivals of propagandic propaganda you’ll ever see propagandized for propaganda industry purposes by propagandists. Exhibit A for why “mainstream media” propagandists rate somewhere around head lice in terms of favorability and Jussie Smollett in terms of trust.

Columbia University, the sponsor of this travesty, is a member of the American Association of Universities, an organization of 69 US members and two Canadian schools, that represent the premier research institutes in the country. Members are invited to apply and then accepted or rejected by a 3/4 vote of the existing members.

One of the primary missions of this group is to influence governments at all levels to adopt and implement policies favored by their membership, At the root of this effort is increasing federal funding for climate change research as well as other studies, something that’s been very successful.

These universities are viewed very positively by the general population since they’re an entry-point for success in academia and business and project an aura of self-less benevolence. This is not the case. The figures that make up the staff of this private association and the schools themselves are devoted to increasing their own income through their influence over education, business and government.

In some respects they’re an adjunct of the Democratic Party but with their own particular agenda. They’re not part of the bureaucratic “swamp” but one of its most effective influences. It’s necessary to recognize that they’re a major part of the un-democratic mechanism that is changing society for its own purposes. People need to be aware of this.

Starting over a month ago, media has unleashed a relentless barrage of doom-mongering climate panic. These stories have the most outlandish headlines I can’t believe the people purveying them are severely embarrassed. But that would require levels of intelligence, honesty, and integrity of which they are all clearly lacking. Like everything else these clowns do, this will backfire big time on them and generate the opposite effect they are hoping for.

Vivek Ramaswamy kicked Andrea Mitchels backside on MSNBC talking about climate change. He is the leader we need to win this fight. No Rebupclican I have seen can provide a more clear and convincing argument with facts. He is smart and very articulate.

Vivek is the only candidate I have ever seen who wants to eliminate the excesses of government to the degree the founders thought would be necessary. Trump was a putz to not allow Happer to do a red/blue team debate on climate. Bombastic hand waving rather than cogent arguments supporting his policies prevented the uniformed from learning anything. Vivek is articulate and evidence driven.

Trump may win GOP, but will not win the general. Too much baggage, no vision. As much as Biden and Kamala are disliked, trump has an a higher unfavorable rating. And the margins with independents is quite large. If he is GOP candidate, i have no hope that this country will survive another 4 years of democrats in charge.

Vivek has a clear vision to make America great. Downsizing government big time. He has got my vote.

“Trump may win GOP, but will not win the general.”

Yeah, that’s what all the Trump haters say.

Time will tell.

“Too much baggage”

Yeah, whose fault is that? Not Trump’s. The lying leftwing Media is adding all the baggage. They will add “baggage” to any Republican who is leading the party.

So, if the radical Democrats lie enough about a person, that is reason not to vote for that person?

What Republican has a chance in such an environment? If it wasn’t Trump they are smearing, it would be the next Republican who might be elected.

Anyone who doesn’t vote for Trump this time around is aiding the takeover of the country by the radical Democrats.

Anyone who says Trump is unelectable is aiding the takeover of the country by the radical Demcrats, by spreading Democrat talking points. Are you listening Chris Christy? Nikki?

Get Trump out of the way, and guess who’s going to be next on the radical Democrat hitlist, Nikki? Should we not vote for you because the Left has said too many lies about you?

Yes, the radical leftwing Media is the most dangerous organization on the planet when it comes to our personal freedoms. They are intent on taking them away from us, and they have a lot of useful idiots in support, both Democrat and Republican.

Markets used to be indexed by people voting for or against a product with their dollars. Public policy used to be generated by our governments run by freely elected officials. Everything now is predicated on the lowest common denominator consensus in social media. Furthermore, this mob rule censuses are manipulated and propelled by colluded media/tech markets to generate highly sophisticated and unified propaganda designed to build on whatever consensus desired. Fear mongering propaganda fans the flames of mob induced fear which empowers massive grabbing by invisible and untouchable megalomaniacs.

They have a vision for us and our world. The vision is dystopic to the core and its goal is far fewer people. This is a strategy for consolidating wealth to a ginormous degree. In a depopulated world goods and services generated by AI Robo-tech will be consumed by a monarchical elite who will enjoy a pristine rewilded world. The old provenances of significant intrinsic value will remain but everything else will be an analog of the past. All the sins of humility will be washed away. This is dystopian garbage empowered to create a utopia originating from deluded megalomaniacal thoughts and desires. It is the latest version of fascism.

Our young people under the age of 40 are spending enough time aimlessly scrolling apps to earn two PhD’s in SCROLLING in 10 years or less. Instead of laying a solid intellectual foundation, they are destroying their minds thereby losing the opportunity to experience clear thinking, crisp deep analysis, and creative thought. A country of Smartphone Serfs is a serfdom. Is that what they want
America to be? The heinousness of all this, is that the smartphone and its apps are designed to Hook Ya. Welcome to the grand new age of:’ You (Pl We) are the problem so now You’re (We’ve been) Hooked’ . America must not become a serfdom. Serfs can be bought and sold. We need to make clear free choices about how we spend our time and dollars. What the jone’s are doing must not be copied. Have we reached B.F. Skinner’s “Beyond Freedom and Dignity” on the way to Huxley’s “Brave New World and Orwell’s “1984”. The former two books are garbage. the later book greatly horrifying… and the answer is “Yes”.

These people are arrogant cowards, privileged arrogant cowards. They should be made to walk the walk. We know who they are, they should be banned from owning or using all internal combustion engines, they should be banned from using any fossil fuel or nuclear generated power in other words they should be made to show us how easy and beneficial a fossil fuel and nuclear free society can be. I’m sure there is a special place in hell for these people.

Well, global cooling is on the way. Cool sunspots are associated with even hotter areas called Faculae which radiate heat. According to NOAA they predict the sunspot number, which has been around 100, will start dropping to single digits by 2035 and to zero and stay there at least until 2040 when their predictions end. It is going to get cold. The main flow of heat is the Sun warms the oceans and the oceans warm the atmosphere. With the Sun cooling the Earth’s atmosphere will cool as well.

Actual is well above predicted, so I assume great minds are trying to determine where the predictive equations went haywire (aka failed, off-the-rails, broken).

Duct tape is now used for fixing things that once were fixed with hay wire.
Raise your hand if you have actually used hay wire! 🙂

We could enter the next glacierization period and tomorrow and this ‘CRAZY’ will continue. It’s not about the climate. It’s a power grab….. a slow incremental covert power grab by invisible and untouchable saviors who want to depopulate the world while centralizing all it’s economic activity. They are a group of people who believe that through operant conditioning via devices and apps and mind control empowered by endless algorithmic data feed back loops in social media, that they can control the masses. Already, many of our young people would be satisfied having nothing more than shelter, food and wifi. In addition, they are convinced getting married and having children is either bad or too hard. This is clear evidence that living life in psychologically facilitated dystopic is well underway. Everything is too hard if you spend 7-10 hours a day scrolling the internet. The dialectical progression towards a depopulated and rewilded utopia, will be dystopic with will be war after war (both foreign and civil). The economic development of Africa, Russia, Central Asia and South America is being halted. It will come to a full stop if more barriers are put around hydrocarbon fuels.. This means massive immigration and huge disparities in economic well being while the western societies become poorer and more deeply divided.. An argument could be made that the Russian War in Ukraine is a harbinger of the wars to come as the CRAZY progresses.

Speaking of blatant grabs, a new 2023 Chinese territory map has sparked concern for including disputed territories in India, Russia and the entire South China Sea (including Taiwan) as Chinese. This includes Bolshoy Ussuriysky Island (now Heixiazi) and Arunachal Pradesh, an Indian state at the eastern end of the disputed area between India and China and Aksai Chin at the western end. Russia hasn’t commented yet but India is very annoyed as are Malaysia and the Phillipines.

The conference is about whipping up support and adherence to WEF climate agenda and economic revolution that is already conveyed in a unified manner in all media….news, social media, web search’s, Wiki, Film, TV shows, etc. Huge dollars are on the line because they know they have the power and they will be flexing their muscles all the way next inauguration. They have to because of few courageous folk speaking out against them….RFK and Ramaswamy, (some GOP candidates are unwilling for afraid to hit the nail on the head)

I think the WEF program has facilitated the creation of three worlds:, Russia/china and it’s associates, the developed West and the underdeveloped regions of the world.. I have no honor or love for Russia or China but I wonder if the West’s WEF lockstep hi-tech fear mongering propaganda empowered economic revolution is fomenting this divide. China and Russia are both at risk of population collapse in the next couple of decades, they must allow for high levels of immigration or import labor soon…. or use military intimidation to broaden their borders. Putin see’s WEF’s program as a threat to global stability due to it’s focus on depopulation, equity and defocus on economic development of undeveloped economies in the world….including Russia itself,(making WEF’s focus on equity highly hypocritical).

Russia is entirely to blame for it’s own lack of economic development but now has no hope because population collapse is 1-3 decades away. This makes for despotic political desperation. China and Russia see themselves as the only opportunity to economically develop Russia, much of Africa central Asia, and the pacific nations. China would love to turn the Philippines into a client state as well as Malaysia and Indonesia. all of SE Asia Yet if we get too back and white about the CRAZY in the world, we will pinpoint foreign enemies and miss the biggest enemy that has already taken hold in the West.

All this climate propaganda is about the consolidation of economic and political power. The west embraces it, the Russia/China East do not….they call it a rising a tech/media hegemony on a global scale. This hegemony has slapped Russia and China in the face and is flying under our noses.

The co-occurrence of a major full court propaganda push for WEF’s climate agenda and economic revolution with the pandemic is no mere coincidence. The complex smoke and mirrors rumblings of covert revolution and covert war is making us all shudder. It remains to be seen if there remains a political solution in America. America no longer has political stability and the representative power of it’s citizens is draining quickly.

It remains to be seen if a shift to a GOP administration will have enough power to stem the tide. The only two candidates who have been up front and militant against the WEF program have been Ramaswamy and RFK. Even if CNN is painting RFK as a wing nut. RFK does not need to be elected to turn back the clock on the WEF and undermine it’s narrative. Until now the WEF program has been flowing unabated in unified harmony in all directions in the West. Hopefully it has peaked. Until then the only solution is legal….bust them up!

The Columbia propaganda school would stop pretending they do journalism if they were honest. Legacy media stopped having any integrity long ago. Psyops are standard operating procedures now.

Preposterous nonsense is presented as unquestionable fact so people without critical thinking skills have no hope of not being brainwashed. They have heard the lies so many times it isn’t even conceivable to them that they could be wrong.

The false premises/narratives underlying the house of cards supporting mass delusions needs to be exposed at every turn.

Bless you Anthony for providing a voice of reason in the wilderness!

voters still put “climate change” dead last of their priority list in polls

These are polls that ask voters to rank a list of items in terms of importance.

When voters are asked to come up with their own list of what is important, “climate change” never even shows up.

Something I had never thought of is apparent from this expose of the media collusion as follows:

You know that one of the favorite denial tactics of the alarmist adherents is to accuse a skeptic of being funded by big oil, or the like. So they can thereby assuage their cognitive dissonance when confronted with truths or facts that destroy their narrative…

Well how about the funding of almost all (perhaps 97%) of the world’s media to promote the false narrative of climate catastrophe. What is the budget of The Weather Channel, CNN, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, and even Fox has become tainted by the woke and chicken little nonsense. Or the NYT and Guardian and the BBC etc etc etc.

Add up all of their budgets and it’s a whopping big number. And how about the funding of anyone in academia – you can’t get funding unless you kowtow to the sky is falling myths. How much do governments fund climate change studies?

Someone with more intestinal fortitude than I should compile a list of all these budgets and funding amounts for the Climate Cult side to counter their asinine argument that a skeptic with critical data refuting their nonsense is accused of being funded by “carbon polluters”.

“Carbon Pollution” which is in fact an oxymoron as without carbon and specifically carbon dioxide there would be no life on this 3rd rock from the sun. (ergo carbon or carbon dioxide cannot be a pollutant nor dangerous, otherwise you argue life is bad and must be limited or destroyed, which is in fact outright evil and the push for eliminating carbon and CO2 is a psychopathic impulse disguised as some savior cultism to induce mass delusion)
