Picture of the week – great moments in climate protests

I trained to be a 350.org climate activist, now I are one!

From the Keystone XL protest yesterday ahead of the SOTU address. Note the snow and cold weather gear which is required for a global warming protest, but that’s not all…

350-Keystone-20140128-00112

According to Matt Dempsey who took the photo, “about 50 activists showed up”, I’m not sure if their brains came with them to the protest though.

Just to be fair.
If the fan, shown in the earlier post, were used to inflate the “pipeline” as laid-out, all they would have to do is roll it over and take their pictures from the building side.
The propaganda would be able to be read.
I’m sure they worked it all out in the end, and it will have a major influence on their next stunt.

With the ENSO Meter set onto negative territory [just] – I wonder if the snow may have raised queries with our Achilles of Climate Denial. Or, perhaps, not.
If the original AlGoreism Man is off to SA, as I read, do you know anyone with (Industrial) space heaters they can ship to Jo’burg by early Feb? Mostly air-freight now, I guess – time is short, or we’ll waste the planet. [Is that right? /Sarc!].
Algore needs to publish his itinerary at least three months in advance, so entrepreneurs can capitalise on the Algore effect – but, crucially, using environmentally-friendly sea freight.
Why does Algore not do this?
just enquiring, just in case . . . .

Anthony watts & al
I just came home now from the monthly meeting of the climate- surrealists at Pelles Pizza in Oslo, with many sceptical and trustful peasants and surrealists.
They would not buy that incandescent lamp of science on the net at constant voltage, that drains less current if you put on it a very fine hat of aluminium foil. That experiment obviously is too painful. It disqualifies the very central jewel in the crown, and the pearl of “Psi-” in the acker of climate denialism and surrealism.
I tried to tell about the iron rod that you heat up to red hot at the end, then if you cool the other end with cold water, the glow will drop a bit, but if you heat the other end also to red hot with another bunsen burner, the allready red hot end will glow up even a bit higher, and the middle of the rod will remain black. There you can paint it with cod liver oil or cold pressed lineseed oil or sunflower oil, in order to be absolutely safe and sure of all this, and even smell what goes on and what you are doing.
But I got suggested 2 bricks , the absolute bricks M1 and M2 in space and in vacuum at equal temperature..
M because Brick is called “Murstein” in Norwegian, for severely traditional political reasons, a “Murstein is to be called a Miurtsten and notrhing but a Murstein. (=Redbrick STALINism and functionalism)
But this is really very practical because we can write “M” on each stone with V for Voltage as you can see and 2 leads out downwards from the “M”s , where we write an S for Sinus and AC power from the net between the leads.
Inside of the redbricks, we adjust the resistance until it gives exactly 10 watts inside each brick. the size of the bricks are then finely adjusted until they keep 300 K temperature quite exactly.
Now, what cools the bricks?
if nothing cools, temperature will grow AD INFINITVM which is impossible.
But, if they are kept in absolute real space away from anything else, Big Bang will cool them. And Big Bang is all around the situation, keeping 3K or practically zero with a quite enormeous heat capacity. BIG BANG is quite easily seen, it is the Black Night, a relativistic phaenomena. Many satelites are there.
If M2 is close to M1 it will stand in the way for Big Bang a bit, and there will be a reduced cooling. Then the temperature will rise a bit in M1. Then we can vary the voltage and thus the temperature in M2. And then we can discuss radiation both back and forth.
===========000
We also discussed Temperature.
Roy Spencer was told to have corrected himself. He has said that vacuum has got a temperature, now he says that Vacuum has no temperature. Which is very fine. Because up in the “Thermospere” where the satelites go, you can have a thermometer showing -150 Celsius and at the same time discuss hundreds of plus degrees and what about the Aurora Borealis?
The healthy CREDO is that the very conscept of themperature falls apart and becomes not valid anymore if the air gets too thin, but down in the thicker troposphere we can indeed discuss temperatures.
And a point does not have any temperature. Temperatures are only valid of molecular matter and of larger things, thus it will also allways be the mean temperature in an area or in a thing. The bathing water temperatures at Vippetangen or in Torne-träsk or in southern California for instance.
This, one could rather agree on among the climate- surrealists.
The moral of this is that you ought to have a thermometer outdoor in the shadow 3 meters over the ground, and take a look now and then.
But for really knowing, better take a look on the snow and the eventually icy pools and on the trees and on the flowers and rather go out and feel it for yourself. Then you will know better how to dress and how to drive.
If working with concrete at dubious temperatures for instance, don`t rely on any thermometer. Place a bitty of water and a glass of water there, and see what happens overnight, and take also a look at the flowers what they say.
Potatoes, tomatoes, beans, Dahlia variabilis… take no frost at all. They give us the first signals of slightest night frost. Cabbage cruxiferavceae and catrrots umbelliferæ, and onions are rather nordic plants and take a lot more. They survive a grade or 2 or 3 of frost and live on. Thus Flora is a really very proper temperature and climate indicator.
Temperature seems to be rather a macroscopic form or way of being, of molecular matter, and not a material. They examined that in the good old Paris school, trying to weigh the temperature and the heat. Finding nothing and being proper materialists and atomists and positivists, they cleverly concluded that temperature and energy is a state or a form of common matter, and not a material or kind of matter for itself.
Some people are silly enough to instruct and educate us that global temperature is ridiculous and impossible.
Of course it is not. It is only another scale than what they are aquainted to, and they should rather start from the beginning, re- educate and train rather the right and better way, their most basic conscepts and ideas of temperatures and heat first, that are rather rotten and unscientific anti-. scientific in their roots.
To conquer “alarmism”, rather get scientifically healthy first.
Examples of very rotten and quacky basic ideas is that of temperature being heat, surface being weight and content and volume and substance, and that heat is a liquid or solid state ware coming through the central heating tube or by the soid state train waggons going one and only one way. Think rather of a traffic going all ways.
“Rather a form of GAS….CHAOS” they found in Paris at the time of Enlightment, thus Thermal- diffusion. Heat in molecular matter follow laws of gas diffusion. Not of one way waggon trains and oil pipelines.

That is an inflatable protest sign that looks like a big black pipeline when it is fully filled with air.
The protesters are waiting for it to be inflated before they lift it over their heads, at which point the lettering will then be right side up and pointing towards the building.
Maybe we will see something like this in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade next fall.

BTW – this organisation of fools needs to change it’s name – perhaps 400.org err, nope – let’s make it 500,org – that way we won’t have to change it again for a while.
Well maybe, but 404.org might be more appropriate? Warming not found? Although with the banner orientation, 420.org might have been more appropriate?

“We may laugh at the protest but the pipeline isn’t built yet…”
The oil get transported nevertheless, with Warren Buffet’s trains; transport cost is twice of what it would be with the pipeline , and it’s more accident prone, and of course it costs more energy to move the oil, so the protesters are simply a hypocritical bunch of activists for Warren and actually work for more pollution, not less. Whether Uncle Warren pays them I don’t know; I do know that money from Rockefeller Brothers foundation went to 350.org. Uncle Warren is a philantropist so maybe he pays them as well. That would count as philantropic.

Farther South, at least 13 deaths due to the cold. http://www.usatoday.com/story/weather/2014/01/29/snowstorm-travel-disruption-south/5010845/
Now let’s tally the number of documented deaths attributable to CAGW. I’ll wager a 6 pack of Feather River Brewing’s Dark River Ale that the number is zero unless it was processed by Phil Jones.

Agreed, it takes forward looking people to make these plans.
What’s not to like:
Years of work in construction/surveying/engineering, nearby towns get an influx of cash from the workers, and we get the infrastructure that weans us off Mideast oil.
Self- sufficiency leaves the Government out of the loop.
It scares the hell out of (some of) them.

REPLY: Well if it was, and they inflated it in that orientation it is being held in, it would still read upside down. #stupid – Anthony

@Dirk H –
Yes, Warren Buffett has to be one of der Fuehrer’s favorite crony capitalists, adding all kinds of cost to each gallon of gasoline consumed by low- and middle-income people when then goes in his pockets. Another mechanism for redistributing wealth from poorer to richer (although in point of fact, ALL such “wealth redistribution” schemes actually make the rich richer and the poor poorer). Typical socialist corruption, and an interesting take on der Fuehrer’s argument about income inequality – super-rich Buffett gets richer though der Fuehrer’s policies, and the rest of us get poorer.
I’m beginning to understand why so many billionaires and corporate big shots are Democrats – the Democrats offer many more opportunities for crony capitalism because Democrat economics is so messed up – essentially economically illiterate, and making it easier to engage in legalized bribery. More opportunities for monkey business for amoral big-business types.
