The WUWT Hot Sheet: Inaugural edition

WUWT_Hot_Sheet_banner

This is an idea I’ve had for awhile, so I’m going to try it and see how it goes with reader interest. The “Hot Sheet” is a collection of snippets, links, and notes that I can’t write full posts about. Basically a “what’s hot” elsewhere. My goal is to do one of these a day during weekdays, each evening, and also to give a shout out to others in the climate community pro and con that have interesting things to say.  Ideas welcome – Anthony

Jo Nova gets press in the Australian:

Carbon credits market is neither free nor worth anything

THE paradox du jour: people who like free markets don’t want a carbon market, and the people who don’t trust capitalism want emissions trading. So why are socialists fighting for a carbon market? Because this “market” is a bureaucrat’s wet dream.

Bishop Hill: A new look at the carbon dioxide budget

As readers are probably aware, I don’t spend a lot of time on new hypotheses about global warming. Apart from intermittent looks at Svensmark’s cosmoclimatology work, I’ve tended to concentrate on mainstream science and its relationship with policy, as well as a lot of “meta” stuff like peer review.

Tom Harris, ICSC: New 5 minute ICSC video – “‘THE EARTH WILL BOIL OVER!’, OBAMA TELLS YOUNG AFRICANS”

My university science student daughter, who attended the Heartland Climate Conference in Chicago and met many of you, just started making YouTube videos using the audios of some of my recent radio interviews – here is her first, “THE EARTH WILL BOIL OVER!”, OBAMA TELLS YOUNG AFRICANS”, using the audio of a call-in I made to a cross-Canada radio show on July 3, 2013:

She is now working on three other ICSC radio interviews from the past week. I’ll send them to you when she completes them. A new generation of climate skeptics is joining the fray!

ICECAP: EPA and the Supreme Court – why the EPA needs to be stopped

By Joseph D’Aleo, Icecap

In the process leading up to the EPA Endangerment Finding approval, I filed numerous comments that went into the record though they did not move the EPA off their position. Then worked with a great team of top leaders, scientists and lawyers on a science based Amicus brief to the DC Circuit Court. The liberal DC Circuit Court found in favor of the EPA but a minority opinion opened the door for a Cert petition to the Supreme Court (SCOTUS_ to review the DC court decision. The DC Circuit Court blocked the submission of the EPA’s own Inspector General’s report to the EPA chiding them for not doing its own scientific evaluation as required by the Information Quality Act.

Our top notch team of lawyers repackaged the arguments in an Amicus Brief to the SCOTUS, one of 9 such briefs. The EPA responded along with the NGOs (Sierra Club, World Wildlife Organization, etc) urging the court to ignore the science arguments we made.  http://icecap.us/images/uploads/EF_SC_Cert_Amicus_153014_1_Final-1.pdf

Junkscience.com: Claim: Burning a liter of gas increases ocean volume by 647 liters

PBS reports:

A new analysis released today in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences includes these mind-numbing statistics:

One single liter of petroleum gas burned may add 647 liters of sea volume. One ton of coal burned may add 164,000 gallons of sea volume.

Junkscience.com: Claim: 1,700 U.S. cities below sea level by 2100

The Raw Story reports:

More than 1,700 American cities and towns – including Boston, New York, and Miami – will have significant populations living below the high-water mark by the end of this century, a new climate change study has found.

Those 1,700 towns are locked into a watery future by greenhouse gas emissions already built up in the atmosphere, the analysis published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences on Monday found. For nearly 80 of those cities, the watery future would come much sooner, within the next decade.

“Even if we could just stop global emissions tomorrow on a dime, Fort Lauderdale, Miami Gardens, Hoboken, New Jersey will be under sea level,” said Benjamin Strauss, a researcher at Climate Central, and author of the paper. But dramatic cuts in emissions – much greater than Barack Obama and other world leaders have so far agreed – could save nearly 1,000 of those towns, by averting the sea-level rise, the study fund.

Joanne Nova is really quite. This right here about sums it up, and tells you who the real socialists are at the same time:
“So, who profits from the carbon market? The brokers in a carbon market – like large financial institutions such as Deutsche Bank, UBS, Morgan Stanley, CBA, Citi, HSBC, Macquarie, – make money on every trade. The global carbon market turned over $176bn in 2011.”

Al Gore is becoming more and more like L. Ron Hubbard every day. Before you know it, he’ll have is own boat and will surround himself with young girls in sailor outfits.
Oh, and yeah, this is a nice little aggregation format.
