Notes on the upcoming WUWT Gore-a-thon

As many are already aware, I’ve announced a first ever effort to do a 24 hour webcast to counter Al Gore’s upcoming “dirty energy = dirty weather ” campaign.

Last year we had cartoons from Josh, this year we’ll have that and more. Since for the 153rd straight month (since I’ve become a skeptic, formerly an alarmist), my “big oil” check has failed to arrive, and because of a spanner or two having been tossed into the works by snafus and snipers, I’ve decided to ask for some help.

There are some last minute equipment and software/service purchases I need to make (to solve technical snafus) that I didn’t expect. Like any venture, even with the best of planning, you don’t know how it all works until you put it together and test it. Basically I’ve built a web enabled TV station from the ground up, but as many engineers know, buying off the shelf equipment and putting it all together inevitably has some gotchas you don’t expect until you try it. The difference between sales brochures and actual operation is sometimes a wide chasm to span.

For example, I thought I’d be able to record the entire broadcast using the equipment on hand, but that turns out not to be possible when I’m also doing live streaming. I thought I’d be able to have my streaming service record the programs, and I can, but the cost is prohibitive. So now, the best option is to purchase a digital video recorder that can handle streaming.

The other spanner is that I thought I’d be able to make up my out of pocket expenses with online advertising during the webcast, but there’s been a behind the scenes shot across the bow (which I can’t talk about right now because it will cause more harm than good, but hope to be able to someday) that has squelched that possibility for me. It has also bled over to some other prominent climate science outlets, which makes me very upset, but there’s nothing I can do about it right now.

And, there’s a small laundry list of other items that need upgrading or tweaking.

So if you feel inclined, look for the orange PayPal button on the right sidebar, or click here. Small donations please, as this is a community oriented effort.

Thanks for your consideration – Anthony

UPDATE: I’m good to go folks, so I’ve removed the link above. THANK YOU – Anthony

A donation has been sent to assist with this web cast project and in appreciation for all the work Anthony, the moderators and contributors put into this valuable web site. Individual donations however are just a stop gap measure to tide you over until those huge Big Oil cheques start pouring in. Any moment now…

Attempted, but my old PayPal acc’t has expired/been locked. Re-established, but will need (!) about a week to “verify”. A belated contribution will be forthcoming then.

Anthony, I’m short of cash right now but have some Aeroplan miles I can donate to future travels if you join AP.
I did a cursory dummy booking.

I’m an airline employee so miles will probably go to waste.

Oz dollars sent on their way. You were bit quick to remove the link, Anthony, but I found the PayPal button anyway.

Late to the party, I know, and I saw your note about getting enough funding for this, but you’re not going to discourage me so easily! ;-p
Donated a small amount, and glad to do so. Hope it helps.

Tried to donate but teh system will not let me!!!! I HATE stupid rules–it won’t let me use my CC that is used with pay pal–come onnnnnnnn I don’t want pay pal taking the money–half from card and half from account. Messy books and a huge hassel as pay pal is business and this donation is not! TDoyou have another way or can I send a check? I know its not WUWT but an insance pay pal rule.
