Notes on the upcoming WUWT Gore-a-thon

As many are already aware, I’ve announced a first ever effort to do a 24 hour webcast to counter Al Gore’s upcoming “dirty energy = dirty weather ” campaign.

Last year we had cartoons from Josh, this year we’ll have that and more. Since for the 153rd straight month (since I’ve become a skeptic, formerly an alarmist), my “big oil” check has failed to arrive, and because of a spanner or two having been tossed into the works by snafus and snipers, I’ve decided to ask for some help.

There are some last minute equipment and software/service purchases I need to make (to solve technical snafus) that I didn’t expect. Like any venture, even with the best of planning, you don’t know how it all works until you put it together and test it. Basically I’ve built a web enabled TV station from the ground up, but as many engineers know, buying off the shelf equipment and putting it all together inevitably has some gotchas you don’t expect until you try it. The difference between sales brochures and actual operation is sometimes a wide chasm to span.

For example, I thought I’d be able to record the entire broadcast using the equipment on hand, but that turns out not to be possible when I’m also doing live streaming. I thought I’d be able to have my streaming service record the programs, and I can, but the cost is prohibitive. So now, the best option is to purchase a digital video recorder that can handle streaming.

The other spanner is that I thought I’d be able to make up my out of pocket expenses with online advertising during the webcast, but there’s been a behind the scenes shot across the bow (which I can’t talk about right now because it will cause more harm than good, but hope to be able to someday) that has squelched that possibility for me. It has also bled over to some other prominent climate science outlets, which makes me very upset, but there’s nothing I can do about it right now.

And, there’s a small laundry list of other items that need upgrading or tweaking.

So if you feel inclined, look for the orange PayPal button on the right sidebar, or click here. Small donations please, as this is a community oriented effort.

Thanks for your consideration – Anthony

UPDATE: I’m good to go folks, so I’ve removed the link above. THANK YOU – Anthony

I never post but I read a lot and learn even more. I hope there are many like me that are able to show their appreciation for this site and its contributors. Well not exactly like me; hopefully they are richer. Thanks Anthony. I’m looking forward to the webcast.

You have my 2 cents plus and thanks for the great work. Am little worried about your getting too much exposure. There is a Save the Earth Taliban out there.

Done. I blame the sky-high energy prices in the UK for not having more to give, and of course they’re caused by the wind-with-everything crowd, so good luck.

My turn.
What’s the equivalent of ‘check in the mail’?
Electronic transfer, perhaps.
Unfeeling. Cold.
Need a pleasant statement.

That’s funny. I do genealogy as a hobby and I was just now pulling down some censuses for a Robert Wyckoff. You don’t happen to have parents or grandparents of Willis and Essie, do you?
