“They can’t settle, they look bored, but actually it’s to do with physical stress and mental boredom, they can’t go off quietly and graze because they keep sliding around the field,” Ms Fisher added.

Who am I to judge, I am just a plain normal dog and sheep owner. My fist thought, reading this article: Dogs has a tendency to sense their owner’s mental state. If the dog owners would stop worrying about a bit extra CO₂ (plant food), enjoy the rain, snow and sunshine with their dogs, the owners would be happier and the dogs would be happier. However, not much sensation in that.
It doesn’t help if your owner is a nutter.

Dogs certainly do reflect the behavior of their respective human families. It is in their nature to reflect their surrounding influences.
A dog that is constantly kicked by its owner learns to bite.
A dog that is constantly neglected by its owner has no social skills.
It only stands to reason, a dog that is constantly exposed to an environmant of climate fear expressed by their owners will display actions appropriate for that exposure
Or you have an owner projecting.

The depressed dogs may have residence near IWTs. I find it very likely that dogs would often suffer from the infra-sound as some humans do.
In that case one could conclude that the depression syndrome is a result of the solving of the non existing climate problem.
No way, just doesn’t make sense for animals that originated on the steppes of Eurasia known for extremes.
We live in Florida. We have an Airedale Terrier. He is our third Airedale. All of them preferred very cold weather but had no problem with warm weather long as they got enough water. Not sure what would depress an Airedale but global warming ain’t one. I am certain that whatever comes our Airedale will not bat an eye and somehow turn it into a new game.

BTW, MOST “animal behaviorists” are nutters. Some of them claim to be clairvoyant and will “diagnose” your horse over the phone from Colorado at $50.00 a call. I am not making this up!
6 inches of snow overnight here in Boulder, Colorado and the dogs don’t look too sad as they bask in the heat of the wood stove. I won’t tell them that carbon dioxide is spewing out the chimney, that would certainly make them morose.

I would suggest that Sarah Fisher has lost her mind but as yet I haven’t seen any evidence to support the hypothesis that she ever had one. Or nonsense like dog depression. Humans make animals their scapegoats and excuses for everything. A dog is “sad” when you don’t feed it, happy immediately after you do. They are NOT complicated. They do not care about rain, or mud and they are never bored. They lack the capacity. They may have nothing to do and improvise by eating your sofa, but that’s NOT boredom (or chewing on your hand and jumping in your face as in the case of my tiny yorkie). It’s what dogs do. It’s “who they are”.

When wind** is over 25 mph and gusting to 40, our horses like a little less exposure than being in an open field. They head for a spot on the lee side of a grove of trees and thick brush. I have never noticed rain, snow, or cold causing them to want to get into a building (stable). They don’t talk much, but I sense they would not approve of me closing them in.
**wind – – – Many suspect that as prey-animals, horses do not like the noise and movement from all directions. Movement means limbs swaying, leaves, lawn chairs, or plastic things blowing around, or the neighbor’s loose metal roof sheets.
Predation is a significant concern to a horse.
Horses are afraid of two things: things that move, and things that don’t move.
And sometimes they are even smart enough to tell the difference between the two.
If you wanna keep your dog happy, it’s real simple:
1) Give them your attention
2) Feed them well but not too much
3) Take them out for exercise .. they absolutely could not care less what the weather is like outside, they always wanna go out, it’s in their genes. They may get a little raggedy looking if it’s especially hot or rainy or blowing hard, but so what? I’ve certainly never had a dog that preferred the indoors.
Just be aware on those hot summer days, if the street feels too hot to place your bare hand on, it could be too hot for your dogs bare paws

Dogs are bored because human owners have gotten increasing lazy physically, while increasingly stimulated mentally — NOT a good combination.
Physically lazy, mentally overstimulated adults, thus, are talking the talk of proper animal care, but (literally) are not walking the walk. That’s my suspicion, anyway.
Mentally overstimulated humans are so focused on climate change/catastrophe/emergency/disruption or other entertainment that they might be ignoring their day-to-day obligations to their furry friends. Dogs are sick of the phrase, “climate change” — I propose this phrase as the new “attack” command for elite security dogs.
“Sit”, “lie down”, “shake”, “roll over”, … “climate change” — NOT a pretty picture.
I think the British dogs are depressed because of Brexit. They won’t be able to mate with French poodles any more…
I get my two Belgian Malinois out every day to exercise (they’re high energy, high drive dogs). Yesterday, the high in Tucson was a whopping 70 F and sunny. Today’s high will be about 78 F and sunny. This week the high will run 10 F to 20 F below average. They are loving it. Memorial Day high is forecast at 86 F, perfect.
Tucson typical first 100 F day is May 15th. This year, we probably won’t hit that until 1st week in June.
We’re really enjoying this climate change thing.
My five month old German shepherd gets a pond liner full of fresh water everyday to dive into during his manic fast running of laps around the yard in the hot weather. He doesn’t seem too depressed about the heat. I thought he might have Malinois in him, since he is so high-drive, to the point of being one of those dogs [I suspect] that is a bit more challenging to get under control when they are fully wound up at this age.
He obviously does not agree with the journalist’s assessment.

The met office provides a useful page where you can generate anomaly maps by month or season for rainfall.
Winter 2019 was unusually dry.
Winter 2018 was drier than average in most of the country bar East Anglia – which is the driest part of the country.
Winter 2017 was unusually dry.
Of course, the article is based on fake statistics or perhaps no statistics.
There is no unusual trend in UK rainfall which makes sense as global warming stopped in 1998.

Well, here in Aurora, CO (Denver suburb) my dogs are depressed because I have 8″ of “climate change” snow on May 21st, and we just set some records here for latest, heaviest snow in the Metro area. They don’t want to go outside.
I thought climate change was supposed to cause long lasting drought? Now only 3% of Colorado is in drought and the mountains have about 170% of normal snowpack before this storm hit.

We had a month of average high of -18C February (coldest February in 83 years) when I had my daughter’s Boston Terrier.
Poor dog and helper ran to the pee and poo spot getting the job done in around 2 minutes.
Walks were out of the question as he will not wear doggy boots.

I can’t speak for the horses but my black labs LOVED the rain. Down to the beach fetching sticks, meeting other “rain people” and swimming and dog body surfing, then home for a nap in front of the fire. Good times.
