Seeing Red on Climate

Dr. John Robson comments on key items from the latest Climate Discussion Nexus weekly “Wednesday Wakeup” newsletter (https://climatediscussionnexus.com/ne…, from news outlets now putting angry scary dark red on weather maps for the very same temperatures they used to show in cool pleasant green to how we know what temperature the oceans used to be to California solar fading with smaller subsidies to climate change being blamed for spring allergies to Trade War III dragging on, plus cutting pollution contributing to global warming and the Netherlands going at twice the global average, more evidence that climate change policies can’t work, drought-ravaged California being ravaged by lack of drought the models also didn’t predict, the Canadian government arbitrarily quintupling the social cost of carbon just as its policies are revealed to be expensive and feeble, the mystery of declining cloud cover, the IPCC inventing both an increase in hurricanes and people being to blame, and a CO2Science.org study of trees in urban areas that show they like heat and mitigate warming.

> drought-ravaged California being ravaged by lack of drought

The greater evil is that “drought” models go from zero to one with zero being no precipitation to 1 being normal precipitation. This water year we are in places 300% of normal but the models don’t go there. The needle is stuck at 1.

Few governments beyond Canada’s like to exaggerate the so-called climate “crisis” more, but it’s ironic and even hypocritical for even doing so since it has proposed eight emissions reduction plans in the past 35 and hasn’t come close to meeting the targets of any of them. Surveys in the country reveal a considerable degree of cynicism among citizens who feel that any climate problems besides naturally occurring ones were caused by the governments and industries/businesses in the first place; therefore, it should be up to them to solve them rather than imposing ever-rising carbon taxes which in turn are contributing to inflation. There is also a considerable amount of suspicion that the federal government and various environmental agencies are paying the media under the table to overblow any climate events while downplaying facts and occurrences that refute alarmism. Finally, further polls show that Canadians, like most Europeans and Americans, have few intentions of making any major lifestyle changes or expenditures to combat what they believe is something that’s largely unstoppable to begin with.

Canada is a cold country- it’s hard to imagine many Canadians are worried about too much heat. All those with “the faith”.

More of them are worried than you would think, I have noticed. Colleagues, friends, family members, they have all fallen for the lies. When I ask them at what point they think Canada is actually going to be “too hot”, crickets…

All true, and it’s funny to watch the alarmists trying to walk a fine line between “the damage has been done, there’s nothing we can do about it now” and “there’s still time to avert the worst of the crisis, but only if the whole world Western countries act now in the next six months two years”. They’ve been at it for 40 years!

In a crazy crazy way, it is actually what CO₂ does – it ‘red shifts’ the radiant energy it absorbs. The image on the right is just the left image viewed through a CO₂ filter.

i.e. It *does* obey the 2nd Law by moving heat energy *down* a thermal gradient and in this example it would shift green to red and yellow to dark red / infra-red

It just does it in colours/wavelengths that we cannot see with our own eyes

In a way, though, it’s an effective way to suggest how crazy is the relentless stream of consciousness of the climate alarmists- the alarm bells never stop clanging.

I rather liked it – reminded me of the breathless speaking style of the save-the-world advocates.

None of the alarmist stuff is working well at present.
The green to red for same temperature trick was used in US and Germany, and resulted only in easy ridicule. The new ‘summer Arctic sea ice gone by 2030’ is easily ridiculed by many past headlines claiming same for many dates now long past—Heller at Real Climate Science did that today. Offshore wind sonar work is killing whales that wash up on public beaches. Impossible to meet EU and CA ICE bans enacted evidencing only Alarmist suicidal tendencies. Kerry proclaiming farming must change, while admitting the resulting less food means less people is good—not a good climate look.
The crazier alarmists get in desperation (because their stuff isn’t selling), the easier it is to take them down hard via ridicule. We have a ridicule target rich environment.

Unfortunately, MSN and Yahoo have prohibitions against bullying and harassment, and attempting to ridicule claims sometimes end up getting comments censored.

So they should be removing all the posts accusing people of being “deniers,” etc. Right?!

I think the alarmist narrative hit the saturation point a few years ago, they keep ramping up the alarms, making temperature maps redder, crying “WOLF!” more and more, always warning that doom is just around the corner, but themselves of course keep using fossil fuels every day. What is the average person supposed to do? Never enough, the climate elites want more and more sacrifices (from others) while they attend lavish parties at climate conferences. Our side needs to ramp up the response that the warmunists are HYPOCRITES who need to give it a rest.

Heh, they got caught crying Wolf! too many times to use it anymore.
They have now doubled down and are yelling Tiger!
When that gets absurd they will triple down and shriek Velociraptor!

Hey have sympathy, I am currently living in one of those BBC red coloured heat zones. Yesterday having restarted my central heating because it was such a cold morning, we were able to enjoy the benefits of the heat wave in the afternoon as the temperature reached 18 deg. C.
Central England UK, the mid summer’s(?) day is almost upon us.

The BBC have been doing this for years, Blue is for near freezing and orange and red
for 15 – 25 C ( 60 – 77F ) What do they do when its out of this range., Invent new colours ?

I’ve seen maps during periods of very high summer temperatures where above 100°F or 40°C they start using violet or purple.

Since 2020, the color scale on temperature graphs have been heating up. A little lie to cover a much bigger lie.

Also, the ENSO graph temperature indexing and color scale were also heated up. (check out ENSO/SST page You have to click on the 5/25/2020 graph to gain access to the most current graph.) A little obfuscation to cover larger obfuscations. It makes historical comparisons far more difficult.

At a glance, the colors suggest that 5/25/2020 ENSO graph is much cooler than Monday 6/6/2023 ENSO graph even when the 6/6/2023 graphs shows significantly greater ice extent at both poles 12 days later in Spring.

When comparing what people feared the most in 2000 to what people fear now in 2023 is quite alarming. Based informal polling (about 10 people including my two college age kids) and general knowledge and logic, only 20% of what people feared in 2000 was was induced via media/marketing compared to 60% now. The truly scary realization for me was that being lied to or led astray was absent as a thing to fear in my 2023. Fear of being alone or becoming an outcast or failure in social media is now close to the top fear in 2023….higher than the pandemic or nuclear war. In 2000, the top fear was job loss and career failure.

(job loss and career failure not being a fear today could be due to the fact that people are quiet satisfied sitting in small rooms by themselves on their phone and lap top. The loss of connectively is far more fearful than career failure.) Maybe we will be happy owning nothing d going nowhere, doing nothing and eating insects….as long as we have connectivity?)

There is much less anxiety or fear about being lied to or led astray now than before. My 20 year old daughter put it to me this way, “Today people are aligned in sub-groups in social media according to their convictions.” “Everything outside of that sub-group of conviction is dubious at best or a lie” ” People feel safe from being led astray because of the group formation is based on like convictions”. The result, group membership is a protective shell against being led astray, even if the group is lying to lead others into the fold (astray). One’s group is all good and the other groups are all bad. This sort of ego defense mechanism, that is “splitting” “idealization and devaluing” people based on contextualized lies, is very damaging psychologically and is now tearing the country apart.

So truth is determined based on group affiliation not the rules of logic or any other thing like the ethic, ‘we should not lie or even give the appearance of lying’.

I believe the cognitive dissonance of group affiliation as rule of truth and the splitting is creating undue anxiety in our young adults and teenagers. There is no rudder other than mob determined truth.

It also means there is very little to consume on the internet that isn’t shot through with omissions, obfuscations, misdirection, repackaging, fallacious reattribution, overt propaganda, fear inducing, thought inducting, small lies to cover big lies. Furthermore I would expect there is a constant stream of strategically randomized miasma to collect data to lay the cognitive and emotional ground work for future fear induction to create new social networks of self righteous people spewing forth.
