It’s Climate Hypocrisy Wednesday Part One: Climate Activists Channel Michael Crichton

Crichton went with the crowd-pleasing condemnation of private jet-flying liberals (very popular, even among the private jet-flying Eastsiders present) and the apparent hypocrisy of people who think that global warming is a problem using any energy at all.

He also suggested that private jets be banned as they add more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere for the benefit of the few who could afford them.

I don’t think this generation of climate activists would agree with Crichton’s overall perspective on the issue.

Environmentalism seems to be the religion of choice for urban atheists. Why do I say it’s a religion? Well, just look at the beliefs. If you look carefully, you see that environmentalism is in fact a perfect 21st century remapping of traditional Judeo-Christian beliefs and myths.

Update: Actions have consequences. Don’t piss off the oligarchs.

The very rich will never give up their private flying.
Politicians are mostly owned by the rich and want to fly private too.
There is no chance private jets will be banned.
Fortunately there is no evidence that CO2 from jets or any other source has a significant negative climate impact, so I say go ahead and enjoy your wealth and power, but don’t tell me to cut my carbon footprint.

What does your first sentence refer to — what is he wrong about?

Your second sentence makes no sense without some context. What the heck are you talking about?

It used to be the radicals ate the rich first. Now they’re fellow travelers.

Let’s keep pushing the private jet issue as a wedge between the rich and the everyday environmentalists.

What good is it to be rich if one can’t do things that the average person can’t do?

-a line of thought that leads one to advocate technology. Did I pass homeless people using wireless earbuds on my evening walk? Material aspects that define rich become proletariat so quickly.

No problem with that concept as long as said rich folk aren’t trying to dictate my lifestyle.

Aka stop trying to dictate the end of useful and reliable electric generation, heating equipment, cooking equipment, and transport, and stop telling me what not to eat.

Time to lockdown DC and let these Temple Monkeys and Congress Critters conduct their business via Zoom from their home states. That will cut down on half the CO2 in the country and all of the hot air once you disband the media.

None of these Climate Alarmists ever complain about what the Chicoms are doing with CO2.

The Chicoms are increasing their use of coal by leaps and bounds and have, or will, nullify any efforts on the part of Western Climate Alarmists to reduce CO2 going into the atmosphere.

Western Climate Alarmists are spnning their wheels on this matter, while at the same time ruining their economies and the well-being of the people they govern by limiting CO2 when others are increasing their output of CO2. It’s a ridiculous situation. A destructive situation for the West.

Yes, I use “Chicoms” to distinguish the “leadership” of China from the people of China. I think the communist leadership of China is evil. I don’t think the Chinese people are evil just because they have evil leadership. There’s not much the people can do about that at this time, so I don’t want to paint with too large a brush.

I witnessed the fall out of Mao’s Great Leap Forward as a child in Hong Kong. Corrugated iron shanty towns of emaciated refugees supported, as best they could, by philanthropic individuals of every nation living in HK at the time.

The CCP realised what a mistake they had made and began to industrialise the nation. In only 60 years they now import more Rolls Royces into the country than any other nation in the world.

That couldn’t have been done without a command structure government. India, by comparison, the largest democracy in the world with a similar population to China, has not progressed nearly as rapidly.

The CCP is planning it’s own obsolescence. What emerges may not be what the west recognises as democracy, but then democracy in the west has hardly covered itself in glory in the last 60 years.

Just how evil is it to drag an almost wholly agricultural, poverty stricken nation of 1.4 Billion people, into being a major player on the world stage?

And they did it without waging innumerable wars far from their borders.

Western propaganda is evil.

So now you are defending the murderous Chicom leadership?

Do you dispute that they murder innocent people?

You are wrong. The almost wholly agricultural, poverty stricken nation of 1.4 billion is STILL an almost wholly agricultural, poverty stricken nation except for a small minority involved in the industrialisation. They have done nothing to improve the lot of the majority of their people in order to finance enough showpiece industrialisation to prove that they are the equal of the western powers. They have not ‘planned their own obsolescence’ rather they are clinging onto power with a deathgrip akin to a castaway clinging on to a float as his last hope. Chinese propaganda is evil.

Looking in places where aggressive physical interaction may have been expected decades ago and seeing faces that would have been exempt from aggressive physical interaction decades ago. Its a sign of the new world, superficially but not only superficially.

Somehow, I don’t think this anti private jet campaign is going to influence Leonard DiCaprio or John Kerry or Al Gore or Barrack Obama…but that doesn’t matter. Climate hypocrisy exposes the hypocrites, sure. But more CO2 is beneficial not harmful. So there are two possibilities: they are climate hypocrites or CO2 hypocrites.

May 24, 2023 2:47 pm

They are on a mission to save the world from climate models! That’s with a lot of self-gain along the way of course.

Funny how they claim that average world wide temps about equal to today’s tropical temps would cause Armageddon. People in the tropics seem to get along just fine. And, they have 2 growing seasons or more. What’s bad? More farmers complain about frost damage than temperature damage–like the coffee and fruit growers.

We could easily settle the matter right now. Re-tweak the models with plausible emissions scenarios and conservative equilibrium climate sensitivities (ECS) resulting in mild projected warming at most. Declare the climate emergency OVER. Then get back to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness after we fire all of the climate charlatans, trough-feeders and bedwetters.

Perhaps if private jet short-haul flights are banned then they will compensate by flying a circular route to increase the time/distance flown.

They can control the world from the comfort of their private jet just as easily in the air as on the ground and still not have to travel with the hoi polloi

Yes, well arresting disruptors at airports is correctly administered. (you can only have an airplane fair at an airport) And arrests should also be immediately administered to any idiots disrupting car, truck or train transportation as well. There should be serious jail time for anyone doing this, say starting at 2 years for airports, same for trains and 6 months for road blockage. That is for the first offense, then doubling the sentence for each subsequent arrest.

There should be zero tolerance for blocking or impeding transport and worse for any deliberate sabotage like slashing or deflating tires. Protest all you want, but you cannot impede transport, so not on roads, rails or anywhere inside airport perimeter fences.

Besides these people and I suspect most folks do not understand the actual numbers. I outline them below using known values:

mid size car 0.221 pounds of CO2 per passenger mile
Boeing 737-800 0.222 pounds of CO2 per passenger mile
Boeing 747-400 0.239 pounds of CO2 per passenger mile
Gulfstream 550 0.314 pounds of CO2 per passenger mile
human on foot 0.442 pounds of CO2 per passenger mile

Hmmm, seems the least efficient hydrocarbon driven “engine” in terms of CO2 emission per passenger mile is a human walking. (we are in fact internal combustion engines, we take oxygen and use it to burn hydrocarbon fuel, albeit slowly and emit carbon dioxide as exhaust) And taking a private or business jet like the Gulfstream G5 (550 or 500) is more efficient than humans walking. Airline transport even more efficient and traveling by car is the most efficient here. Though I suspect a full train might beat the car.

So the bottom line is if the nonsense that CO2 is the cause of climate change were true, then you must get rid of the worst emitters, humans! Which is the heart of this suicidal death cult, which has hoodwinked the naive masses in some evil, dark crusade against life! (the carbon they want to eliminate is YOU!)

Data for the above as follows:

Car: 4 passengers, 60 mph speed, 22 mpg petrol fueled
737-800; 160 passengers, 600 mph, 6,000 lb/hr jet fuel
747-400; 400 passengers, 600 mph, 18,500 lbs/hr jet fuel
G-550; 14 passengers, 600 mph, 2,640 lbs/hr jet fuel
human; 1 passenger, 1,200 miles per year, 530 lbs CO2 per year emitted.

notes: the aircraft fuel consumption is the average for a flight, where takeoff/climb burn is 2-3 times cruise burn and descent is basically engines at idle. Likewise car mileage is average for city and highway.

And Jet-A is 1,056 gr CO2 per 340 grams fuel; Petrol is 704 grams CO2 per 228 grams fuel.
