I get the impression watching that performance from Just stop Oil spokes person Eddie, the time is right for a new movement to engage, maybe call it, Just stop idiots.
It is saddening watching someone who titles himself a ’25 year old student’ who has not learned even the most basic requirement of intelligence, i.e. an enquiring mind open to debate and absorption of facts.
As for the legal position of the barristers only prepared to engage when dealing with clients they ‘agree’ with? Well that will make the legal profession no longer fit for purpose. Anyone who takes the bar should be struck off as soon as they sign up to their personal prejudice. Such a position is in direct conflict with their profession and its core values.
Who knows that might even save the public purse some money if enough of the wigs sign up to abandoning the law. It is almost as if AD1215 and Magna Carta had never happened. .
Well that will make the legal profession no longer fit for purpose.
Whose purpose?
Anyone who takes the bar should be struck off as soon as they sign up to their personal prejudice.
Struck by whom or what, a lightning from clear sky? That’s a statement on how the world “ought” to be, without any way to make it so.
And not even a cool “ought”, at that. Consider:
No legal system can maintain justice unless every participant — magisters, prosecutors, Legums, defendants, witnesses, all — risks life itself in whatever dispute comes before the bar. Everything must be risked in the Courtarena. If any element remains outside the contest and without personal risk, justice inevitably fails.
― The Dosadi Experiment
Gowachin Law made a special distinction between prejudgment and bias. … The interpretation of bias was: “If I can rule for a particular side I will do so.” For prejudgment: “No matter what happens in the arena I will rule for a particular side.” Bias was permitted, but not prejudgment.
― The Dosadi Experiment
See? This concept is about as close to the observable reality, but at least it has teeth. :]

The problem of climate change activists getting more disruptive and destructive has led to some entertaining videos of these loonies being forcibly removed from their illegal activities. Self-help is quite variable in different countries, and even within states or provinces. However, there usually is some route to apply increasing levels of force needed to stop illegal activities. In the US these are centered around the “Citizen’s Arrest” laws, which Concealed Carry permit holders learn in the normal training cycle. Lawyers will do this but won’t do that, irrespective of the Law? Good marker for a culture becoming dysfunctional.
In the US, during the Only Black Lives Matter riots, an unruly crowd broke down gate to enter a private subdivision. (This means that even the streets are owned by the property owners)
They carried signs threatening violence if their demands weren’t met and shouted slogans demanding the same.
One set of property owners appeared in front of their home carrying legally owned guns. That was all they did.
The homeowners were arrested and charged with threatening the rioters.
If you do anything to these protesters, the police will be arresting you, not them.
The two homeowners did not follow even the simplest protocol for the rules of citizens arrest. They should have told the BLM rioters that they were trespassing and told them to leave (trespassing is a misdemeanor). If they did not leave they should have stated that they were under arrest for confrontational trespass while threatening violence (a gross misdemeanor or felony) and then would have the legal right to utilize any escalation of force necessary to secure compliance with the arrest. The two homeowners also brandished (especially the woman) the firearms in a most inappropriate way, suggesting a lack of training.

As a commenter pointed out on Guido, Maugham is not on the CPS prosecutors’ list so would never be called on to prosecute. He is an attention seeker with no skin in the game.

Think there are around 20,000 or so barristers in UK so 100 is just 0.5%.
If they all get struck off for their stand then the result is that their pool of clients will have to take pot luck and end up being represented by people who will not use the same type of defence as the current lot have.
Mostly the female lawyers suffering from male-pattern baldness.
[Guys and gals: I’ve been pushing the “male-pattern baldness” meme for awhile now, especially when referring to America’s “Woman of the Year” trans admiral. I’m hoping many more will join me in its regular use. It seems to really anger the unhinged, although it brings a smile to normal people’s faces.]
I have no problem with someone going trans- none of my business- but I am against hiring the person for a really important job based on that characteristic. Presumably this person is qualified for the job, I hope.
for some reason that reminds me of an old ’60s story- of a drug enforcement convention where one of the servants loaded the punch bowl with LSD and got them all tripping

Why do medical researchers prefer to use lawyers as experimental subjects over rats?
Biologically they are very close to being human, even though they live under rocks and subsist on a diet of invertebrates.
The researchers often grow quite fond of the rats and are reluctant to conduct certain experiments on them.
There are some things the rats will not do.

Lawyers who don’t want to follow the law are as useful to society as physicians whose actions are designed to harm and shorten the lives of patients. The appropriate response is to remove their right to call themselves lawyers.

Excerpt from general principles of the UK code for criminal prosecutors:
2.2 It is not the function of the CPS to decide whether a person is guilty of a criminal offence, but to make assessments about whether it is appropriate to present charges for the criminal court to consider. The CPS assessment of any case is not in any sense a finding of, or implication of, any guilt or criminal conduct. A finding of guilt can only be made by a court.
2.3 Similarly, a decision not to bring criminal charges does not necessarily mean that an individual has not been a victim of crime. It is not the role of the CPS to make such determinations.
2.4 The decision to prosecute or to recommend an out-of-court disposal is a serious step that affects suspects, victims, witnesses and the public at large and must be undertaken with the utmost care.
2.5 It is the duty of prosecutors to make sure that the right person is prosecuted for the right offence and to bring offenders to justice wherever possible. Casework decisions taken fairly, impartially and with integrity help to secure justice for victims, witnesses, suspects, defendants and the public. Prosecutors must ensure that the law is properly applied, that relevant evidence is put before the court and that obligations of disclosure are complied with.
2.6 Although each case must be considered on its own facts and on its own merits, there are general principles that apply in every case.
2.7 When making decisions, prosecutors must be fair and objective. They must not let any personal views about the ethnic or national origin, gender, disability, age, religion or belief, sexual orientation or gender identity of the suspect, defendant, victim or any witness influence their decisions. Neither must they be motivated by political considerations. Prosecutors must always act in the interests of justice and not solely for the purpose of obtaining a conviction.
By my count there’s at least one contradiction in each paragraph cited above to the petition’s stated prejudiced decision to not prosecute an entire class of crime. Signing the petition clearly disqualifies this 100 from ever serving as a prosecutor on any case.
I cant imagine it allows picking and choosing the type of crimes to prosecute.
Similar rules mean defence barristers are supposed to use a cab rank system for the types of work where they are suitable . Some crimes are complex and many may not be suitable but the climate extremists are usually the lower level of crime any solicitor or barrister can do

I’ve chatted to my legal contacts many of whom are criminal barristers. None of the names on this list are criminal barristers qualified to prosecute with either the Crown Prosecution Service or any local Government Authority. it’s the same as me refusing the prima ballerina part in the next Ballet Rambert production of Giselle. Pure public mental masturbation which it seems has the potential to be as repulsive as the real thing…
Jolyon Maugham… vexatious loser

No, but a lot of them are getting funds from George Soros.
Now, if a prosecutor or DA had said that it might mean something.
It’s about lawsuits, because “State vs. state sponsored terrorists” isn’t going to happen.

and with that degree of “accuracy” it looks like “settled science”- it must have Mickey Mann who discovered that truthful number 🙂
The United States has 1.3 million lawyers which is more than twice as many as we need and only 985,000 doctors which is half as many as we need.
