Book Review: A Tale of Two Climates

Bill Pekny has written a terrific book on the tricky subject of Earth’s Climate. 

But who has ever heard of Bill Pekny?  Almost no one.  Why?  He is a humble man who just does good work (and good works) and isn’t shining a spotlight on himself.   He should, though, because his book is just the thing many of the readers here have been looking for.

“A Tale of Two Climates: One Real, One Imaginary” was published in 2020, it is nevertheless right up to date, it has no outdated charts or graphs – all of which are very professionally done and just beautiful.

Pekny has been very careful with this book.  The typography itself is very clear, with lines spaced for reading ease.  Included, at the beginning of each chapter, is a table giving all the acronyms and units of measurement abbreviations used in that chapter.  Definitions are set apart in the text to help readers grasp unfamiliar topics.  Each chapter ends with Chapter Takeaways.   All great features, especially for the non-scientists among us. 

The author takes his readers carefully through all the major subjects that add up to Climate and Climate Change, one at a time in a sensible order, each chapter building on the previous one,  with informative and readable prose that makes each topic transparently clear thus making this 250-page book a valuable resource for those who have been wishing for a book to present to a colleague or relative who needs to understand climate change better.

The hardcover book is suitable for use as a “coffee table book”.   Leave it around for visitors to pick up and leaf through…almost every page has a graphic of some sort that will catch their eye and text that will inform them. Also available in a Kindle version.

Get a couple copies of this book to give as presents to your closest colleagues, friends and family for Earth Day 2023 (April 22).
