To be fair, it was almost 48 hours. /s

I live in Glasgow and I didn’t notice any heatwave. It seems to have been an English phenomenon or non-event as numerous people have stated. To be fair, Glaswegians only know it is summer because this is when the rain gets warmer.

I would add “Wired Magazine” to the list for their unapolagetic assertions that 2023 will be beyond the pale. https://www.wired.com/story/climate-environment-hurricane/

I suppose the Buffalo, NY death toll will be racked up to CC, but come on, they are BUFFALO and they KNEW this storm was coming for days, I just watched the evening USA national news, seems there is some finger pointing about the tragedy, it would seem that they should have been ready.

“I suppose the Buffalo, NY death toll will be racked up to CC”

Of course. Nowadays, every weather event is claimed to be caused by CO2. The climate alarmists can’t prove a connection between CO2 and any weather event on Earth, but that doesn’t stop them from making the claims.

Claiming subjective weather is evidence of too much CO2 is the only “argument” climate alarmists have left, and, as we all know, they can’t prove a word of it.

Any real scientist would reject their unsubstantiated claims out of hand.

Record breaking!
It was the worst since 1977, which was topped in severity by the storm of ’66.

Do they ever edit for logic before issuing scary pronouncements?

If as NYT claims UK ‘heat waves’ were worsened by climate change™ by the same token the recent US blizzards must have been alleviated by the very same climate change™ or am I foolishly expecting some logical consistency in their arguments⸮

They are pretty consistent. EVERYTHING is worsened by “climate change”.

According to some expert on the BBC Ten o’clock news the other night the snow in the US was worse because the atmosphere is warmer and so can hold more moisture. The whole piece was just pure propaganda on behalf of the AGW lobby.

“or am I foolishly expecting some logical consistency in their arguments⸮”

Don’t expect any logical consistency from climate alarmists. They are trying to sell a narrative. Logic doesn’t enter into it.

They came up with a new term for extremely heavy rain events this past Summer:
Wild ‘1-in-1,000-Year Flood’ Sweeps Through Dallas Area

https://matzav.com/wild-1-in-1000-year-flood-sweeps-through-dallas-area/

“The severity of the storm qualifies it as a “1-in-1,000-year flood,” according to The Washington Post, adding that over the last week, three 1-in-1,000 year rain events have hit the U.S., in St. Louis, eastern Kentucky and southeastern Illinois.”

Here are the top 4 rain events for Dallas in the past century:

https://www.nbcdfw.com/weather/weather-connection/record-deluge-includes-totals-nearing-15-inches-as-rain-continues-to-fall/3054041/

MOST RAINFALL IN A 24-HOUR PERIOD

  1. Sept. 4-5, 1932, 9.57 inches
  2. Aug. 21-22, 2022, 9.19 inches
  3. April 24-25, 1922, 8.81 inches
  4. Sept. 21-22, 2018, 8.11 inches

According to this new terminology, 1 in 1,000 year events don’t even need to break the rainfall record using instrumentation the past 100+ years.
We’re to believe that extreme rain events like that one in 1922 and 1932 were from the natural variability of weather.

Then, the same thing happening in 2018 and 2022 was from the man made climate crisis that resulted from CO2 emissions.

The climate alarmists want us to believe that Mother Nature took a vacation about 1978, and CO2 took over Her climate control knob job from there.

Some climate alarmists claim that 100 percent of today’s warming is caused by CO2 (without any substantiating evidence), while other, more moderate climate alarmists claim “only” 50 percent of today’s warmth is caused by CO2 (again, without any substantiating evidence).

But Mother Nature may be back on the job. The temperatures have cooled by 0.5C since 2016, and we can’t attribute that to CO2, now can we. 🙂

Tom,
The cold waters in the tropical Pacific which define the current long lived La Nina had a great deal to do with the current pause in global warming.
We’ll see what happens during the next El Nino and compare it to the previous El Nino that caused the previous spike higher in global temperature.

I saw this thought raised the other day and the question I have is how many El Ninos occurred from 1940 to the 1970’s when the temperatures cooled by 2.0C?

The temperatures cooled for decades despite the El Ninos that occurred during that period.

Perhaps history will repeat itself.

The Summer of 2022 definition for “1 in 1,000 year” events: “Almost” a record.

Basically it comes down to this.
You can make a case for something happening using either facts or lies.
The ‘climate alarmists’ have concluded, facts don’t work for them so they use lies and expect to be believed no matter how bizarre their lies are.
Their strategy is enhanced by the complicit media coverage they achieve.
It’s a funny old world, unless you are one of the victims of their lies…..

“The ‘climate alarmists’ have concluded, facts don’t work for them”

And they would be correct, the facts *don’t* work for climate alarmists.

There is no evidence showing that CO2 is the control knob of the Earth’s atmosphere. There are no discernable effects from CO2 in the Earth’s atmosphere other than the enhanced growth of plants on Earth. That’s the only currently discerable effect of CO2. All the rest is pure climate alarmist speculation, assumptions and assertions, not backed up by facts.

The climate alarmists have not one shred of evidence making a case that CO2 needs to be reduced or regulated. Not one shred.

We’ve arrived where we are today based solely on lies and distortions told by the climate alarmists. CO2 is not the problem. Climate alarmist lies and distortions are the real problem.

Salute!

HooooRay!

Someone who has author authority needs to post a thread of its own, but Elon is about to save “science”!!!!

From this morning’s news briefs…..

.Current Twitter CEO Elon Musk declared that Twitter will promote “reasoned” skepticism of scientific data.

“New Twitter policy is to follow the science, which necessarily includes reasoned questioning of the science,” Musk wrote.
and
“Anyone who says that questioning them is questioning science itself cannot be regarded as a scientist.” Gums observes he might be referring to Fauci.

What a breath of fresh air, and I will bet that the previous “monitor” cells in Twitter had search engines looking for climate skeptical posts, ya think?

As M.L. King cried so long ago, “Free at last!”. The left better go to school, as they will be losing a popular social venue to continue their CAGW alarms, and maybe even losing some grant money.

Gums cheers….

I count 9 events?

1.      Floods in Pakistan
2.      Hurricane Ian
3.      European Drought
4.      China Drought
5.      Famine on the Horn of Africa
6.      UK Heat Wave
7.      Yellowstone River Flooding
8.      Low Levels in Lake Mead
9.      World Cup Skiing
10.  ???

What did I miss?

Here’s another good one:
An extremely laughable version of them launching last year’s 2021 snow/ice event in TX into the worst snowstorm in recorded history for the planet. Even worse than snowstorms with 10 times more snow and snow drifts of 40 feet.

10 Biggest Snowstorms of All Time:
https://science.howstuffworks.com/nature/climate-weather/storms/10-biggest-snowstorms.htm

Contents

10.The Great Blizzard of 1888, Northeastern United State
9.The Storm of the Century, 1993, Eastern United State
8.New York City Blizzard of 2000
7.Lhunze County, Tibet, 2008
6.Mount Shasta, California, 1959
5.The Eastern Canadian Blizzard of 1971
4.The Iran Blizzard of 1972
3.The Great Snow of 1717, New England
2.The Buffalo Blizzard of 1977

  1. Great Texas Snowstorm of 2021

The Great Texas Snowstorm was not even in the top 100, no less the biggest snowstorm of all time. The biggest part of the disaster was related to the failure to Winterize their energy delivery systems and over reliance on diffuse, intermittent fake green renewables, especially wind (a grid scale battery system that can store the energy efficiently has not even been invented yet) .
Manufacturing a fake intensity level like this to blame the failure on, instead of the real reason for damage control is sad.

I know that “The Great Blizzard of ’78” registered the lowest barometric pressure ever measured in Ohio. That’s a measurement of the actual weather, not of damage done.
Two weeks or so later New England got hit by a different system that produced its own “The Blizzard of ’78”.

I’m so old that I can remember when we had journalists, people who took pride in reporting facts. Whatever happened to them?
