Like fish in a barrel.
Here is the Washington Post article (Web | PDF) by the Capital Weather Gang’s Matthew Cappucci about a new study in Geophysical Research Letters.
Note the certainty of the headline (above) and opening paragraphs (below), including the certain attribution to “humans”, a synonym for manmade emissions of greenhouse gases.
Now compare that certainty with the last paragraph of the study’s analysis, especially the highlighted portion.
Note the incongruity… Cappucci’s false presentation of certainty vs. the study authors’ clear admission of uncertainty.
Unfortunately, Cappucci seems to be a committed climate propagandist working at a propaganda outfit committed to the climate hoax. Since our last clash, he blocked me on Twitter.
The WaPo masthead reads “Democrats Dies in Darkness”… especially when you leave the inconvenient truths buried in the paywalled study.
In the UK we have just been informed that it will take 12 months of above average rainfall to top up our water supplies. It looks like no matter how hard the media push the global warming meme, the weather just does not respond!
No problem! Above-average rainfall is not uncommon in the UK. These morons forget that everything tends to the mean. Look at Australia…
Above average occurs almost half the time. Average rainfall is rare.
December-Feb. Usually a total soaking.
Over the last 5 days the WaPo has had numerous articles about Biden and his failed excursion to Saudi Arabia. Story after story appear in this Google Search
Yet they’ve written no articles regarding the probable Attempted Collusion WRT trying to influence the Midterm Elections. Nor about Nancy Pelosi investigating this potential. It will be a travesty if this doesn’t end in publicly covered impeachment proceedings televised to the same extent as the attempted impeachment of President Trump
Sorry, wrong thread.
Sew what, we got the point & no one got needled !!
Something scrambled up top? Or room for dancing
”Above average occurs almost half the time. Average rainfall is rare.”
Toward normal [distribution].
The same is true for intelligence. But we can be sure that climate activists are found in the lower half.
Yer, they keep saying that, my grass is 2ft high and planting impossible it’s so wet.
We had almost 200% average rain in September, a lot of places were well above average.
Now we have 50% of kids going to (dumbed down) universities in the UK, (thanks Tony Bliar), it is fair to point out that a considerable cohort of those university students are of below average intelligence.
And don’t even start me on their ‘academic’ tutors….
Hasn’t griff been claiming that rainfall in the UK was up a whopping 6% over the last 20 years?
I rest my case…
Turned out he had his sprinklers on.
But,,but,,but,,The UK is 6% wetter
The simplistic mindset of the Alarmists’ equates warming with drying. There is no such fundamental association. Warmer air is capable of holding MORE moisture. How and when it releases that moisture is a function of temperature difference between the warm, moist air and and other air it runs into. This often occurs when the warmer art rises into cooer air with less total moisture content. When the warmer air cools its dew point, it will look for opportunities to condense and fall as rain, snow or hail. The dew point will be higher for warm wet air than it typically is for cooler, drier air.
“Climate” temperatures as a single factor will, have little effect on rainfall frequency, timing or amount. Just another stupid and unscientific blabber from what is really a religion, not a science at all.
The Washington ComPost’s masthead reads “Democracy dies in Darkness”….
It seems the Post has changed that warning into its mission.
More accurate would be “Democrats die in Darkness” because they’re outlawing all sources for light, food and energy because their religion demands it of them.
“Musk appeasement of Putin and China stokes fears of new Twitter policies”
“First, given opposition to aiding Ukraine among some Republicans,
Musk’s Twitter takeover and the likely reinstatement there of
former president Donald Trump and some of his allies would spread
opposition further & divide the country, threatening Ukraine’s backup.”
The Gubmint, with the help of the MSM, are joining forces yet again to set
up Elon Musk to be “Russiagated”, as he’s obviously in the grips of Putin.
Same gameplan, different victim!
While I disagree with some of Elon’s opinions, having an open, uncensored
debate on Twitter is what democracy’s all about. Brandon & the rest of the
libs prefer censorship & will try to stop him from buying Twitter.
Question: Did Elon finally agree to buy out Twitter knowing full well that
the Gubmint would stop him so he wouldn’t be stuck with buying it anyway?
Funny how a company with that saying as it’s masthead, is so committed to shutting down any voices that disagree with them.
Democracy dies in darkness. With a pillow over its face. Until it stops breathing. Being pressed down by the Washington Post.
To be fair, they never claim they’re trying to prevent said death.
This “warmer air’s ability to hold more water” chorus of unsound attribution is on constant replay. But it is also true that the atmosphere rejects water vapor at rates of energy transformation thousands of times more intense than the low-single-digit W/m^2 incremental static warming effect of GHGs. Rainfall at one inch per hour represents a 17,600 W/m^2 conversion of the latent heat of water vapor into motion, work, and heating of the atmosphere.
And there is a ready supply of very dry air at altitude and from the poles to displace the warmer, more humid air at the surface and closer to the equator.
Not once do they mention that the rain is also 6% wetter these days (griff will be along shortly to confirm). And they call themselves “scientists”?
You nailed it, Shark!
After a month of what England would call a drought ( no rain for 3 or 4 days at a time), finally rained Thursday here in the Panhandle. The rain was definitely wetter than normal. Maybe the weather god was making up for lost time.
No, griff has assured us that the whole world is experiencing drought with his ‘fact’ du jour.
But it’s 6% wetter drought.
Here’s the study
Now make it fit the narrative
“We might not know if there’s an overall increase or decrease. That’s one thing that we’re working on.”
They could just look at NOAA’s Climate at a Glance:
The term CAGW is used almost exclusively to imply GHG’s driving us
beyond “tipping points” & rarely is land use change even mentioned.
UHI can trigger thunderstorms with more/heavier rains as well as
contribute to erroneous warmer temperature readings, as Anthony has
shown with his research into poor weather station sites. So even if
there’s more rain & more warming, they may not be due to more GHGs
as is usually implied, but rather to land use change & poor data.
There has been no US warming for a very long time.
This falsifies any hypothesis that warming is changing the US weather.
Nice LINK but if I go to USCRN I haven’t a clue where to find that chart of USA-48 temperatures, or how to ask for the data to produce it in Excel. It’s a way too little or way too much information web page.
Roy Spencer may do that graph since he does the UAH one above it. Maybe on his site. I do not have his URLhandy.
UK emissions to go down….
“”Electric Mini production to move from Oxford to China”” – BBC
Should be “Democracy dies under a dark masthead”
Americans have a real reason to worry this winter. Circulation in the polar vortex indicates an open path for Siberian air directly into Canada. This is dry air with a lot of ozone in the air column.
Not helpful. How about some context, interpretation, or links?
What it all boils down to, for those who just born yesterday (or the day before) is that, in the WINTER TIME, (Northern hemisphere) things tend to get QUITE COLD! Conversely, in the Summer months (again Northern hemisphere) it tends to get quite HOT, some places more so than others! No amount of graph manipulations can obscure these facts!
WaPo, where democracy dies in darkness (masthead).
Where uncertainty becomes certain.
Where lies become true.
Where Biden becomes competent.
Where elections are not stolen.
I keep thinking I should have become a weatherperson. Much more lucrative, and you only have to be correct once in a while in forecasting the weather(I mean, climate. My bad.).
Silly climate cultists, can’t they see that most folks are not buying their snake oil side show any more? That is the reason they are pushing even harder to convince everyone its all real.
In my opinion, the polar vortex anomalies ( related to the distribution of ozone in the stratosphere) can be linked to a weak solar cycle, which may be weaker than the previous cycle.
The sun has an almost spotless record. 🙂 Let’s see what happens in a day or two.
” spotless record. “
record? Just a day or two or three. W week ago it was very busy.
It was meant to be humor. Did you see the little ‘smiley?’
Maybe the sun has got his hat on
A cheery British Depression-busting song … useful as we enter the next one
Just more “cluck bait” ,the sky is falling, MSM biased reporting. And the Moving Mini production(partially) to China yet it doesn’t change Employment levels in UK /EU? They keep saying that in the article but never specifically explain how? It is just “ rebalancing” so they say.
I suppose the guy this winter pulling the cart saying, “Bring out your dead!”, will be considered to be a “Green” job.
So will the composter of corpses, in California.
So that’s where the rain has gone! Sitting here in Argentina, in a prolonged drought, worrying about the trout and wine grapes, and the USA is getting more rain. Who’s in charge of all this, anyway? Maybe the United Nations?
Critically low water levels in Mississippi and Colorado rivers ..
The Allegheny River (NY & PA), the Wabash (IN & Il), the Ohio River, Tennessee, and others are seasonal recipients of precipitation from the remnants of Atlantic storms (hurricanes). When such storms do not happen the flows in all the rivers fall.
The Colorado River issue is different.
Lake Mead Low Water Levels, Part 2: Colorado River Inflow Variations and Trend – Watts Up With That?
Last time I looked, the Mississippi river level seemed to be quite normal. Lots of rain north of St Louis.
Australia has had a good dose of rain over the last couple of years and Victoria is currently inundated:
SOI high. It will continue to rain in eastern and northern Australia.
When the study says
“We cannot entirely rule out the possibility of a less than detectable increase in mortality”
The headline says,
Milloy has caught Cappucci and the WaPo in either a flat-out lie (at worst) or deliberate misrepresentation (at best).
What’s the difference between a flat-out lie and a deliberate misrepresentation? In mathematical terms, I’d say mighty small.
Bad intentions vs good intentions. You’re welcome.
I see. You have good intentions if you deliberately misrepresent a factual matter.
Sorry, Dave, I left out the sarc tag.
I should have caught it by remembering your comment batting average.
A standard philosophical question: If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?
If a flat out lie or a deliberate misrepresentation is not reported by the media to be a flat out lie or a deliberate misrepresentation, the situation is indistinguishable from acceptance of it as truth.
Which is what the swamp wants, of course.
Milloy has caught Cappucci and the WaPo in a flat-out lie or deliberate misrepresentation, but the swamp doesn’t give a toss because they ensure that the public hears Cappucci but not Milloy. Did Milloy make a sound?
You gotta feel sorry for Capucci….put yourself in his shoes…young guy probably has car and condo payments to make,,,paid 50 cents a word for articles…deadline to come up with something every Thursday…sooner or later you’re going to run out of compelling articles that you believe in, and then you have to step over the line into the “para-truthful” to keep your click-count up…
I don’t feel sorry for liars and deceivers that claim to be reporting the facts any more than I do for those that reveal information that provides comfort or advantage to an enemy.
Besides, if that kid really knew his stuff and wasn’t lazy he would have plenty of topics to report on. The scope of weather and climate topics are vast and amazing enough without fabricating BS.
“The WaPo masthead reads “Democrats Dies in Darkness”…”
Freudian slip? Or intentionally misquoting? Either way, it’s amusing.
I think they are stating their objective. It’s like using George Orwell’s 1984 as an instruction manual.
When all you’ve got is a hammer…
In another life these shills would be in the NKVD.
NKVD stands for ?
Naródnyy komissariát vnútrennikh dyél.
The People’s Commissariat for Internal Affairs, Russian Socialist state police, the guys that ran the Gulags.
I heard they were all women named Karen, though I might have misheard.
All these megawatts of computer-crunching and reams of data dumps by the climate alarmists can’t be doing the environment much good.
Almost half of all rainfall is above average. The rest isn’t worth mentioning…. unless we are talking about how CO2 causes increasing drought.
Except in Lake Wobegone, where all the rainfall is above average.
But the men are good looking!
It reminds me of what the say about Humboldt State: “All the men are men, so are the women, and the sheep run and hide.”
“…………. Oh, no you can’t! That’s Sarge’s girl.”
The authors compared rainfall over two periods — 1951 to 1980 and 1991 to 2020 — to see how patterns evolved.
Without a very good explanation and justification for using just those two exact periods’ data to compare, this paper is junk.
(Note: I haven’t seen the entire paper).
Say, whoever minused my comment, it would sure be helpful to provide an explanation for why you disagreed with what seems so obvious.
Why the minus 1?
Sometimes we make ‘friends’ here and they like to remind us that they are thinking of us.
Personally, I’d prefer to see both up and down votes, not just the sum.
Yes, the data (versus the sum) would be best.
Is there an ombudsman? I would think that the authors would be pissed!
Since when did little kids get to tell adults about their weather opinions. They haven’t even been around long enough to experience enough weather phenomena to have a valid opinion.
It is people like Mathew Cappucci that I no longer trust the mainstream media.
The end is Nye. Deja vu.
The expansion of Arctic air over the Great Lakes will continue. Snow will fall in the Appalachians.
A couple of days ago, Joy Behar of the comedy show “The View”, urged reporters to do whatever it takes to raise doubts in the minds of Republican voters.
Silly me, I thought the job of reporters was to report the news. It wasn’t their job to help shape the narrative.
It is a reflection of the sad state of what used to be known as journalism.
It seems to me that if one is going to blame recent rainfall increases on warmer temperatures, one would have to show data that recent temperatures would also have increased. Given the recent pause in temperature increases, that would be quite a feat.
Rainfall is NOT increasing everywhere, although the official, (human-fiddled) global picture claims it is increasing.
Here is 160 years of rainfall data from my home city in Melbourne Australia.
My guess is that about half the cities in the world have decreasing rainfall, half increasing rainfall. What mechanism, like alleged CO2 global warming, allows such long term and obvious exceptions as Melbourne? Where in my graph is there a change in trend that folks could say is caused by CO2? I cannot see one. Geoff S
CSIRO abruptly scraps globally recognised climate forecast program (msn.com)
Couldn’t monetise the fairy dust so finally called time on it much to the vapours and palpitations of the usual suspects. Well done for a modicum of rationality and integrity and swimming against the taxeater tide.
That was fast. Only a couple of days ago WUWT published our article about fiddled Australian temperature data. Today WUWT tells us a big CSIRO climate program is scrapped.
Must write another article for WUWT.. Shazam!! Geoff S
That must be why the Mississippi is running dry.
