“Move Before I Pull My Gun Out”: Irate DC Commuter Gets a Pass from Climate Protestors

Essay by Eric Worrall

Video suggests the gun wielding Washington DC commuter was rushing to help her sick mum.

‘Move before I pull my gun out!’ Outraged DC commuter threatens to SHOOT climate change activists for blocking busy interstate during morning rush-hour – as another furious driver tosses their banners away

By Stephen M. Lepore For Dailymail.Com 03:19 08 Oct 2022, updated 08:37 08 Oct 2022

  • A group called Declare Emergency , which is demanding President Joe Biden declare a ‘climate emergency,’ sat themselves down on I-395 Friday
  • Blocking roads is a tactic that’s largely been used in the United Kingdom, where protesters have interrupted traffic to sound the alarm about climate change
  • Their website and demands compare the threat of climate to Hitler’s Nazi regime in Germany prior to World War II
  • Those trying to get to work Friday morning were seen on video not exactly feeling the unity
  • One commuter eventually got out of his car and threatened, ‘Move before I pull my gun out’

Commuters in Washington got into a raging confrontation with climate activists on their way to the nation’s capital Friday, with one even threatening to shoot protesters blocking the highway.

A group called Declare Emergency, which is demanding President Joe Biden declare a ‘climate emergency,’ sat themselves down on I-395, one of the main routes to Washington, and refused to get up.

That soon prompted a furious backlash from drivers. One woman got out of her car and threatened the rabble with a gun if they refused to let her past to go see her mom, while an irate man ripped placards out of the group’s hands and tossed them above the median and onto the other side of the interstate.

After half an hour, police arrived to arrest the group.

A video of the incident;

Thankfully DC police arrived within half an hour to arrest the climate protestors, before they got hurt.

I think this incident raises an important issue. I don’t condone violence, but people who block roads are putting themselves in harms way.

I remember a close relative once had to rush her son to hospital, when her son suffered an asthma attack and stopped breathing. Pedal to the metal all the way. She stopped once, briefly, for police, and they gave her an escort. The boy was saved – just – but was seconds away from death when they arrived at the hospital.

Sometimes people really need to get to where they are going. I can’t imagine my relative would have slowed down for a bunch of climate protestors, with her son’s life hanging in the balance she would have driven through them, if they didn’t give way. She wasn’t a violent person, there would have been tears in her eyes when she did it.

Eric, what the heck? “Sometimes people really need to get to where they are going.”
ALL TIMES people really need to get to where they are going, that’s why they are going to begin with. These people need to be locked away at Lorton (is Lorton still the DC jail?)

Eric, whether they are good people or not isn’t the point. The point is that my rights and privileges don’t end where theirs begin. Talking to them, temporarily detaining them and fining them has not worked. It is time to take the next step, I don’t know what exactly would be proper but it is time for them to feel significant pain for their misbehavior, they have worn out their welcome.

Eric:
As I mentioned in my earlier comment, many police, Armed Forces servicemen, Department of Homeland Services, Central Intelligence Agency, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Secret Service, etc. employees commute up I395.

There are legal clauses regarding anyone obstructing an officer in the performance of their duty…

Coddled activists used to corrupt government protection may learn that Law Enforcement Officers have means beyond ordinary citizens.

A woman in the UK did just that. She was trying get her children to school when three protestors blocked the road and sat right down against her bumper (OK, fender!). The driver crept fwd very slowly until the protestors were leaning on her car, making a big thing out of being shoved. The police arrested the driver and she lost her licence for six months as well as being fined. The protestors were allowed to sit back down in the road.

cars will have to be outfitted with cattle catchers, like the ones used on trains of old. Drive forward and the protestors are moved to one side or the other without getting run over. It would probably bruise them up a bit, though.

No and no.

The tragic descent of society into anarchy.

We either accept the police are a force for good and understand their need for violence, usually in the heat of a highly charged event calling for split second decisions that occasionally go wrong, or we decline into taking the law into our own hands.

No cop ever joined the job (with a tiny exception of psychopaths) to do harm. We all joined to protect our family, friends and community.

In the UK, we cops had an unwritten “Ways and means” Act. If we couldn’t actually find sufficient evidence to demonstrate in court that someone had, say, participated in a BLM riot but we knew they had done so, we would make their life a living hell, legally.

The western world needs more cops. Tough ones at that.

I agree, Bob. We need to make it an automatic prison sentence of 5 years minimum. This is de facto terrorism.

And we need to have police officers staffing the highways to be right there when this happens.

Yeah, much as it would feel good to shoot one of them in the foot, that isn’t the answer.

Police, like most of us, are given specific assignments. Officers assigned to ticketing speeders and other traffic offenses are assigned a specific length of road.
Like most of us employees, they do not get to roam freely.
I doubt these traffic control officers are trained to deal with climate protestors.

I do support sending police trainers to France to learn how to properly handle traffic blocking protestors. Training that then can be given to local LEO so they can properly handle protestors.

Zip tied protestors left prostrate or seated feet away from vehicles doing 65mph or faster for hours, might encourage their fears.

I rode with car pools for years up/down I395. There are a couple of slow spots where lanes merge, but for the most part the inner lakes keep to 65MPH or faster.
That’s with a speed limit of 55MPH on that section of I395.

Kidding, right?

If even a rookie cop can’t deal with a few rabble rousers either the laws need to be changed or, more likely, they need to be sent back for further training.

A law is a law. Break it and you risk being deprived of your liberty by the police. At least in the UK (and elsewhere in civilised western society) it’s the only power police have over any of us. Even then, a citizens arrest is usually acceptable in court.

If she does injure someone, and I am on the jury, all she has to say is that visions on the Watts riots were in her mind (where driver was pulled out of the truck and beaten nearly to death) and she feared for her safety.

She goes free.

Depending on the region/City, there would not even be need for charges, based on the drivers reasonable fear of the mob.

Oklahoma has a law where a person is not penalized for driving trhough a crowd if they feel their life is in danger.

This law was put in place when the riots were going on in 2020, and crowds of people were blocking streets and highways all over the nation and surrounding cars and beating the occupants.

So if you are surrounded by a crowd in Oklahoma and think you are about to be killed, you can legally drive through the crowd to get away.

It would be an interesting court case if something like that ever happens.

Eric, while you are doing your preaching to them to EVENTUALLY convince a few stray sheep to return to the flock, think about this: you are not “really needing”, as you say, to go your everyday routine, you are in a real emergency, for instance driving someone needing to go to an hospital, and you are stopped, not just in the first line, as it seems the woman with the gun was, but some hunderd yards behind: you would not be able to talk with those scoundrels, as she did; what would be your choice, then? What could you do?
Fortunatelly this kind of operation is not used in my country (I wonder why, as those ignorant “climate” nuts adopt everything their likes do abroad); some years ago, before the “climate emerency”, “extinction”, etc., it was tried by one or two trade unions during strikes: the condemnation by all the population was overwhwlming and the method was discarded. I am firmly convinced that this kind of disruption of social life should be severily criminalized. Furthermore, because they are unexpected, unannounced, and are implemented in violation of the legitimate rules about the right of demonstration.

They will never “wake up”, this movement is a cult, and it gets much worse with the younger crowd, who are completely indoctrinated through K-12 and college into the Greta Cult.

Eventually you’re going to have the entire West or “free world” under mind control of the cult of Gaia, implementing artificial energy scarcity and tight controls, digital “carbon footprint” measurements and personal allocations, not unlike the vaccine pass electronic enforcement tools, the public has been primed with the covid control grid.

You’re going to see those put in place in Europe first, the Ukraine war and Russian cheap energy boycotts are meant to put this control grid in place. Eventually those measures will be adopted in the US.

The rest of the world, China, Russia, India, Brazil, Africa etc will not abide by this, they will split into a separate economic zone that will benefit from cheap, abundant hydrocarbon-based energy.

2: It is disrespectful to assume these protestors do NOT have agency and are not willing to lay down their lives to save the planet. MLK’s Letter From Birmingham Jail has something to say about it. One can find ‘this way to’ I395 signs inside Washington DC. Sometimes, one can even find the entrance that lead to I395 South.

“locked away” is just one of many ways to make “agitators” pay for their actions. They “agitate” because they don’t pay for anything they ask for. They’re freeloaders and self-absorbed political ne’er-do-wells who do what they want because we all let them. Instead, we should just insist that if they want something then “pay for it!” Otherwise they can pay for the inconvenience they cause everybody else. Soon this kind of B.S. will stop.

To reach District of Columbia from I395 requires crossing the Potomac River.
No DC police, patrol or respond to anything happening in Virginia or Maryland.

If these protestors were not on I395, say at an intersection well off of I395, then it is possible Alexandria or Fairfax county police responded. Both are Virginia jurisdictions.
Both Alexandria and Fairfax County are democrat bastions. Alexandria being the more tolerant, in some respects, community.

There are three ‘hurt’ possibilities.

  1. When they glue their hands down to something, rip the hands off. Using acetone to unglue them is far too kind, even tho acetone may be a carcinogen. Not immediate enough.
  2. Big criminal fines for blocking roadways. Big as in ruinous to their negligent upbringing mommy’s and daddy’s.
  3. Jail for blocking roadways. There are J6 Capital protesters in jail now over 18 months with no bail and no court date set yet. That sort of many month jail for these protestors might work. At least it would slow down repeat offender status, which many already have.

But the lady with the handgun threat should have her carry permit revoked. An uncalled for threat no way proportionate to the situation. My CC is a Colt .380 (former Secret Service/Air Marshal sidearm) and I have never had to even consider threatening to use it. Bad form.

This from someone who has owned firearms since 11, presently has a large armory of many types and calibers in three locations, who reloads, and who formerly participated in and taught competitive shooting (revolver silhouette, skeet, trap, sporting clays) plus gun safety to novices (Boy Scouts and sons many friends with parental permission at my personal shooting range at my Wisconsin farm [old 100 yard by 50 yard rock quarry with about 60 foot high rock walls]), and young hunters needing to pass the Hunter Safety course to get their first license in Illinois and Wisconsin.

You have obviously never shot real guns at real targets.
Let me give you a simple long ago anecdote. So, I took my best college friend and later groomsman hunting, I had a shotgun, he had nothing (no training). So. We came upon a trash cardboard box out in the grouse woods. So, I said to Vince, want to see what this does? Was a simple 20 ga Mossberg 500 pump. So, at about 30 yards, I fired a single 20 ga 6 ga shot and shredded the target box to smithereens. He never touched a gun again.

Obviously call the police or ambulance and all that”

Why?
Most ambulances here are privately owned and operated. They have little legal responsibility.

A court case regarding police failure to respond timely has been adjudicated by the US Supreme Court years ago.
The court found that police have no such responsibility to respond effectively or timely. Their responsibility is to their superiors; their superiors to their employers.

When a threat is seconds away and the police are tens of minutes, the responsibility to defend falls upon those actually present.

Which is why a number of states define self defense rights both inside private property (includes residences, cars and RVs) and outside residences.

Still, I suspect where the feces will really hit the fire will involve Federal Law Enforcement and obstruction of their duties.
Most others will simply drive aggressively. Even idiots recognize their danger when cars approach at high rates of speed.

Then proceed apace and hope they get out of the way. The gun would be unnecessary to the entire interaction – except to demonstrate you’re serious prior to proceeding. If stuck 20 cars back, shooting won’t get the desired result, but brandishing might be an effective bluff or might not.

I read a comment recently that said something like: When the government stops enforcing simple property crimes, the sentence for those crimes will soon be DEATH.

When the individual citizen must take the law into their own hands, all bets are off. It would appear to me that is what the Democrats want, vigilantism, so that they can attempt to revoke the 2nd amendment.

Hell, in the UK, the “authorities” are enforcing speech codes while ignoring criminal codes. But you have no 2nd amendment in the UK.

In D.C., she’s probably looking at being charged with assault with a deadly weapon – unless there is some kind of affirmative action working in her favor. Had it been me, the D.C. police would have used the video to press charges. Owning a gun brings responsibility – and a legal target on your back.

Both “protestors” and car jackers have taken to the use of guns. In such cases, you can start to make a case for self-defense. In such a case, whether or not I’m legal takes a back seat.

Believing they can accomplish anything significant and meaningful by block traffic and making commuters irate only serves to demonstrate that these individuals are not the sharpest tools in the shed.

I’m no psychologist, but the reaction these dimwits get from commuters should tell them that it is unlikely they will attract the sympathy of the majority of the general public with such actions. That they apparently can’t figure that out tells us what we need to know about them.

Every time I watch a video of protesters doing this, I am always left wondering if their I.Q.’s are much larger than their shoe sizes.

They are narcissists. In their minds, their desires no matter how trite or inconvenient, require all others to serve their personal needs. They have no shame.

We see this frequently. Activists make larger than life claims, but show up in small handfuls to conduct their protests.
Their beliefs are that everyone will immediately recognize their moral superiority and stop fossil fuel use.
All while wearing/using multiple fossil fuel derived products. items they are convinced they are forgiven for using, because moral superiority…

Legislators whom are served by these infantile protestors look the other way to allow protestors latitude to egregiously misbehave. Reinforcing established selfish attitudes.

Good for that driver, but what about the rights and damages of the 475th person waiting in line behind all the traffic, with somebody dying in the back seat. There is no opportunity to challenge, explain, threaten, or otherwise deal with such idiots. I saw this frequently in Hawaii, with somebody driving 20mph on a 55 highway with one lane each direction, with a bumper sticker declaring “slow down, this ain’t the mainland” . In just 5 miles you would see several hundred cars behind them, no doubt some of them desperate to get where they were going. It happened weekly.
There should be serious consequences for blocking traffic, no matter what reason. Too simple minded to know where to turn? Pull over to figure it out. Making a political statement? Go to jail for a week for every man-hour you wasted of somebody else’s time. People died waiting? Life sentence.
Numerous times in the past few years on the US west coast, people have died in fires because somebody got panicky, disoriented, or just plain stupid, caused a major traffic jam, and lots of people burned (Paradise Fire) or nearly so. A fire near my house, several hundred cars blocked from escaping because a guy decided to stop in the middle of a major intersection to make a cell phone call. One may excuse inadvertent causes like disorientation. But deliberate blocking of traffic should be dealt with very strongly, and that should include just being inconsiderate.

Commuters in Washington got into a raging confrontation with climate activists on their way to the nation’s capital Friday, with one even threatening to shoot protesters blocking the highway.”

I’m surprised anyone slowed down.

Blocking traffic isn’t easy when many people are driving at 70mph and aggressively anxious to keep their schedule. For many drivers and their passengers, patience is not a virtue.

Police have been killed on Interstate 95, 495 and Rte. 395, because the officer pulled over to check someone’s license and registration. The officer was a little too close to the road when an irrational driver swerved around to the road shoulder without slowing.

  • Interstate 95 is the main interstate along the East Coast corridor.
  • Interstate 495 is the beltway surrounding the District of Columbia.
  • Rte. 395 is the direct path north into DC from the Virginia interchange of I95. I495, south of the city.

Virginia State Police patrol I95, Rte. 395 and I495 south of the Potomac River.
Maryland State Police patrol I495 north of the Potomac River.

Corrupt DC officials do not patrol anything outside of DC borders.

What’s more, repeat offenses by protestors against commuters will cause greater levels of refusals to stop.

To add to that difficulty, many of the impatient drivers are active duty FBI, CIA, DHS, Navy, Army, Marine and Air Force personnel. Most are fully armed and will have full protection of Federal Law Officers if they are forced to take action.

Traffic to DC starts around 4AM in my neighborhood, sixty miles south of DC. Federal employees of all services, departments and agencies often work at least until 3-4PM, many until 6-7PM. Twelve or more hours after they began their commute to work.
Tolerant is not what they will be when leaving work to commute home.

Train, bus, car pool, whatever, most commuters have similar time frames commuting to/from DC.

Coddled narcissistic immature activists may have to grow up a lot, before they ignorantly prove Darwin correct.

You fail to hear the LOVE of truth.

You fail to hear the LOVE of our wonderful country which is under attack from within by anti-freedom, anti-truth, forces.

You fail to hear the LOVE for all those weary, hardworking, decent, commuters, just trying to get to work……or to visit, perhaps for the very last time, a dear one.

Where there is no passion, there is no love.

You see, love underlies it all. Love is why we are angry.

And if it comes to a civil war to defend freedom, so be it.

Don’t worry, however. As with the Revolutionary War and the Civil War, we Americans will persevere many, many, years at peaceful resolution before taking up arms.

In short: if civil war happens, it will have been FORCED upon us.

*************

Do you seriously believe that if we simply refrain from expressing our righteous indignation all will be well?

Do you actually believe that a healthy person would NOT be angry at those trespassers?

  • Yet, leftists praise harming Western Civilizations!
  • Yet, leftists praise using government to persecute citizens!
  • Yet, leftists praise allowing millions of illegal immigrants free entry to the USA; never mind criminal records, human rights of citizens, harmed economics, etc. Two communities so far have complained that “a few busloads of illegal immigrants to their sanctuary cities are too much!”
  • Yet, leftists ignore miles of robbed/destroyed/burned businesses while wailing “armed resurrection” about protestors just being present at the Capitol January 6th, 2020. Never mind the only armed people were Capitol Police and FBI plants.
  • Yet, bleeding heart leftists moan that our Federal Government should cave to terrorist, NGO, violent Leftists, etc. demands, but never to hard working citizens.

Because of the Whiskey Rebellions, Thomas Jefferson summarized the event as:
“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is it’s natural manure.”

At the time when anyone could ferment corn/wheat/rye grains then run the result through a still to make whiskey. i.e., collecting the whiskey tax took more effort than it gathered in value.

If you deliberately place yourself in harms way (and an ordinary person would consider a busy Interstate a dangerous place), then you assume the risk of getting hit. “Is the USA on the point of a civil war?”

The Left is pushing for it by creating a two-tiered justice
system in the US that gives them the power they stole from
us. The Left wants us to lash out with aggression via hate
speech and/or unnecessary violence beyond self-defense. The
wise response is to not indulge in hate speech & to only use
violence when necessary in self-defense. So you are right in
that hate speech shouldn’t even be done as it only plays into
what the Left wants us to do- react out of anger not maintain
discipline. Also, hate speech may NOT discourage others from
being uncivil when faced with a situation like this.

The key is keeping one’s cool & not striking out. When this
situation gets me angry, I try to limit that “venting” to myself
as sharing that anger & frustration with others could snowball
into something worse, which is what the Left wants. So we must
“keep our eyes on the prize” by staying disciplined as that makes
it as hard as possible for them to achieve their nefarious goal!
