Blockade Australia Charges Dismissed Because of Climate Insanity

Essay by Eric Worrall

Australia’s Lismore court accepted a Section 14 Mental Health defence – not guilty due to cognitive impairment or mental health issues.

Blockade Australia Activist Mali Cooper Has Charges Dropped After Sydney Harbour Tunnel Protest

by CHARLES RUSHFORTH  27 SEPTEMBER 2022

Lismore local Mali Cooper was charged with wilfully preventing free passage of vehicles after locking herself in a car in the Sydney Harbour Tunnel during peak hour traffic in June.

Livestreaming the ensuing chaos as traffic banked up either side of her, Cooper stated the rationale behind the disruptive action was to enact systemic change after witnessing the devastation of the Lismore floods.

Before 2022, Cooper’s offence would normally impose a maximum penalty of $440, but after changes to protest laws in NSW — specifically designed to target climate protesters — these penalties were increased to $22,000, or jail time of up to two years.

Facing these penalties at Lismore local court this morning, Cooper had all of the charges against her squashed by magistrates under a section 14 mental health order.

Read more: https://junkee.com/blockade-australia-verdict/342206

Are climate extremists like Cooper too delusional to face court? Arguably they are – people who genuinely believe the world is about to end may be incapable of rationally evaluating the consequences of their actions. What criminal act of salvation would be unacceptable if the world truly stood on the brink of destruction?

But the courts have a duty to protect the public, when someone’s mental impairment leads them to commit crimes. Blockade Australia claims Cooper has indicated she still believes in the climate crisis and direct action.

Let us hope Cooper receives proper psychological treatment for her climate mental health issues, and lets also hope any court appointed mental health providers take steps to protect the public from her harmful behaviour, otherwise there is a risk climate extremists like Cooper might see this case dismissal as a free pass to continue acting out their climate warrior fantasies.

Update (EW): While researching the Section 14 mental health defence, I noticed a lot of advertisements from State of New South Wales lawyers offering what appears to be an express service, for people to claim Section 14 if they are busted drink driving, smoking drugs or committing antisocial acts.

On a more serious note – this young lass now has a publicly discoverable record as someone who has antisocial behavioural issues.

What is any responsible prospective employer going to do with this situation?

The real tragedy in these things is that youngsters getting caught up in a “cause” often burden themselves with negative employment prospects for many many years.

So they never get a chance to rise above the “moment of insanity” and escape the cult of purple hair, nose rings, tattoos, shabby dress, couch surfing and of course sponging off a captive welfare system.

Open questions, yes.

On one hand we could take her claims on face value. If she truly believes we are all going to die in the realistic near future as a result of Climate Change(tm) then, by here logic, there is nothing to lose. Hence her actions are fully justified. No point in protecting her CV for the future if the future ends next Tuesday.

On the other hand if the future doesn’t end then she will be required to live in it.

She now has a background that can be ‘checked’. Good luck in getting a job offer from anything other than the organic craft shop your Mother’s friend owns.

She will soon be forgotten by her activist friends who have proudly given her support through the legal system and then she is on her own.

If nothing else I hope this will be a case study in how to ruin your life.

That sure seems like slippery slope territory.

In the commie and socialist countries, weren’t you judged to be mentally ill if you went against the party line? Then you were sent off to a reeducation camp where you were gently cured of your delusions via hard labor on starvation rations.

Not too far down the road, the charges won’t be dropped if you are protesting against the official narrative.

Eric the RANZCP and the Australian Psychological Society believe in the mass delusion of a climate crisis so you can be assured there will be no “blanket mental health diagnosis ” …While I researched the DSM I noticed there is a neat little clause in the wording of the DSMIV diagnostic definition of ‘delusional disorder ” however that incorporates cultural relativism and the Appeal to Consensus fallacy that can exclude a delusional diagnosis if enough people in a subculture or culture believe the same absurdity …….I would put it to you this is a loophole for political psychiatry. The label “climate denial ‘ used by mental health professionals organizations certainly is politically suffused and a classically condensed totalitarian cliche with sinister cognitive connotations of Holocaust denial equivalence … Stephen Lewandowsky needs no introduction on this blog to understand how pathetic the state of green left activist psychology is in Australia. One Australian psychologist published on The Conversation website pathologized the ‘higher analytical abilities ‘ [ obviously not at a premium in psychology with the fields shocking research replication failure rate . Still running at 60 % or thereabouts is it ? ] of climate skeptics like some barrier to true faith. The APS homepage published an article ” Climate Change Communication [ lampooned on WUWT in February 2019 ] that contradicted its own messaging. .Anyone with ample analytical abilities could have discerned the APS doublespeak and the 97% consensus lie [ created by John Cook who later trained as a cognitive psychologist himself ] .. So to the ‘ Yoga For Climate Action ‘ and Greenpeace aficionado green psychologist recently published in the letters page of The Australian , the pressing problem is not the quantity of psychologists available ..It is one of quality and integrity – and that includes you . The psychiatrist who chaired the DSMIV actually proposed a morally reprehensible false diagnosis to remove Donald Trump from office as he deluded himself that Trumps climate policies may lead to more deaths than Stalin Mao and Hitler ….But if his delusional nonsense is shared by a subcultural consensus in his profession he is technically not mad according to the DSM criteria is he ? . I cannot think of one professional psychiatric or psychological association that condemned him …So is it unreasonable to suspect his disgraceful Soviet methodology advocacy – and climate hysteria – are not frowned upon within his profession Eric ?.. There is a very simple way to prove me wrong …. Mali Cooper could set a precedent and .”eco – anxiety could be the new ” protest disease ” African American civil rights activists were diagnosed with in the 1960’s….Probably more leniency this time around as many psychologists and psychiatrists have succumbed to the same millenarian insanity as the radical green activists. . .

Thanks, Eric. That was clear from your presentation.

I was getting the Soviet vibe from the court’s acceptance of the plea and the sentence.

Here in the US, dumb kids doing dumb, harmful things used to be judged as a ‘dumb kid’ and the judge would consider a sentence that would penalize the kid and help them mature so as to not do something dumb again. (Now, they just book them – sometimes – and then turn them loose).

IMHO, the court should have rejected their plea and just ruled that they aren’t crazy in any way but are dumb, impressionable kids who didn’t think through to the consequences of their actions, regardless of anyone’s thoughts on a ‘climate emergency’.

Those two aren’t bipolar or schizophrenic or afflicted with some other certifiable form of mental illness, yet they got off pretty much scot-free.

By allowing ‘crazy’, that’s where I get the uneasy feeling that down the road, mental illness may start being used as the Soviets did.

So my ‘slippery slope’ comment didn’t come from anything in your post other than the fact that crazy came into play when dumb@$$ should have been the basis for judgement and the sentence should have been something that might cure them of their ‘dumb@$$-ity”.

Crazy should be used for real mental illness where psychosis might cause someone to do great harm. Otherwise, it can start being used against people who just believe differently from the mainstream or the Powers That Be.

Mali doesnt live in Lismore ( but grew up there, now lives 120 miles south in Bellingen). The offence occurred in Sydney and yet the case is heard before a Lismore judge. The nearest court to home town is Coffs Harbour, but would normally be heard in the location of offence. The prosecution usually decides locations and as its summary jurisdiction ( without a jury) no need to consider trial ‘fairness’ and change of venue.

A lot of strange decisions here, the discharge without conviction is the least of it

Easily corrected by applying a consequence appropriate for actual mental illness: court-ordered in-patient treatment at a psychiatric facility, say 3 to 6 months to allow time for appropriate diagnosis, observation, and application of a treatment regimen with follow-up visits along with temporary suspension of driving privileges, probation, and monitoring to prevent a repeat of the antisocial behavior. If there is no consequence to correct the crime, whether caused by mental illness or not, the likelihood of further infractions is high.

So now where are Prosecutions taking her driver’s licence off her until she can show she’s mentally fit to hold one again? After all it was clearly a case of dangerous driving that could easily have resulted in a fatal crash/chain collision and I’m surprised the Magistrate didn’t mention it in their summing up. “According to several reports Cooper’s lawyer Mark Davis argued his client had suffered from the trauma of seeing record floods decimate their hometown of Lismore.

“We are very relieved that the court calmly considered all of the facts in this case, including the psychological impact of climate change upon young people like Mali,” their lawyer Mark Davis said in a statement.

“Seeing (their) hometown of Lismore destroyed twice in the months preceding (their) action induced a trauma in (them) that was a decisive factor in today’s decision.””

The problem wasn’t the trauma from seeing Lismore destroyed twice in two
months, the problem was blaming CC without any proof it caused the
flooding as well as assigning human causes to the CC without proof. She
just based her actions on bad facts she accepted to be true.

There must be a medical diagnosis of some sort.

The problem with our current trend of not stigmatising mental health as a condition to be wary of is that far too often, people go on to commit some nasty crimes.

People who dye their hair bizarre colours, get facial piercings and tattoos – in particular home made ones – are always suspects in my opinion. These are forms of self mutilation and attention seeking behaviour they believe is anti establishment and rebellious.

Mental health conditions are designated ‘mental health problems’ these days and on that basis, Asylums were closed across the UK in the 70’s/80’s. The result now is that these people are treated in the community

However, if one has a physical illness a hospital is the correct place to be treated. If mental health is considered an illness, why on earth is it considered wrong to treat these people in a designated treatment centre thereby protecting them and the general public. We know these people are mentally unstable and, clearly, unable to distinguish between right/wrong or acceptable social behaviour.

All those newly built covid camps in the Northern Territories in Aus. could be turned to very good use. Treating these poor people in a designated facilities with professional medical staff on hand 24/7.

Woodilee Hospital was on my beat when I started as a cop in the 70’s. A low level facility for patients considered non dangerous to the public, but we still had to retrieve their component parts, all too often, from the nearby railway track.

I’m fairly confident that the green haired, inked and pierced mob, would not be nearly as keen to draw attention to themselves if the result was to be incarceration for their own safety until they were better.

I used to work in the NHS. The old ‘mental hospitals’ were really grim institutions, many built in Victorian times and the early 20th century when the treatment was really only ‘lock them up and throw away the key’. Almost designed to ensure people never got better. They were long overdue for abolishment.

I know very well how grim they were, but unlike anything else, which governments “reform”, they just knocked the buildings down.

Consequentially we now have mental cases who shouldn’t be out because they represent a danger to the community, wandering around, frequently drugged up to keep them stable. When they decide not to take their drugs, or smoke weed instead, they all too often do terrible things.

Medical science, including mental health science has come a long way since the 70’s, unfortunately mental health science is, more often than not, subjective.

Our current method is to wait until a known mentally ill individual does something horrible to themselves or someone else before they are sectioned, then they are held in conditions little different to the old asylums.

When they are over their current ‘episode’ not when they are better, they are let out and frequently continue their behaviour which ends in being sectioned again.

They may not have taken too kindly to someone pointing out that this sleazy unit refurbished the ‘fixation disorder ” used to incarcerate the determined critic of Trofim Lysenko Zhores Medhvedev ….The New York Police department – and the Australian Federal Police – have also misused psychiatric referral powers to discredit whistleblowers in their ranks ….Nasty crimes indeed…I once met a state director of forensic psychiatry implicated in the “alleged ” framing of a heroin importation ring whistleblower but I wont venture too much further into that .. For now …….There are problems with stigmatising mental health conditions for the reasons I just elucidated ..

Back in the days when people had mental instability issues. They were incarcerated in safe and secure ‘hospitals’ for their and the the wider public’s good/safety. Treatment was administered often in the form of electric shock therapy to help the sufferer reset their mental systems, apparently.
Now we live in more enlightened times and consider such practices unacceptable. That is a good thing.
It does raise the question what then do we do with obviously mentally disturbed people? Those that block major travel systems, train tracks, roads, bridges and so on for example.
Have the authorities considered a modern electric reset idea? It did work apparently, and had some positive outcomes. Maybe the local police constable administering a few early treatments with his taser at the first stage of mental collapse, such as when a sufferer glues themselves down, ready for treatment or when they lock themselves in their car ready for safe segregation from society.
Just a thought, not sure if it would work, but we must do all we can to help these wretched confused creatures.
Remember it is all for the Greta god we suggest these things…..

Facing these penalties at Lismore local court this morning, Cooper had all of the charges against her squashed by magistrates under a section 14 mental health order.

As a verbsquash means to beat, squeeze, press, or crush something into a flattened mass. As a noun it denotes the family of tendril-bearing plants with leathery rinds and edible fruit, while squash is also racket game played in a closed-walled court with a rubber ball.

Quash means (1) to set aside or annul by judicial action, and (2) to suppress forcibly and completely. When squash is used figuratively, its meaning can come very close to quash in the second sense.

Well, locking your head to a rental vehicle steering wheel and stopping blocking a major tunnel roadway (Sydney Harbour tunnel) during peak hour traffic must indicate a mental problem.

She is from the area where the Green’s are much loved and celebrated and also in those northern rivers communities is the town of Nimbin, once a 1960s hippy area with leftovers remaining and know to be the weed centre of New South Wales, I have observed nicely painted marijuana leaves on government road signs while driving through.

I once drove through Nimbin with a couple of teenage boys in my 4WD and we exchanged many jokes about hash cakes and similar, later that day at an Italian pizza restaurant on the Gold Coast Queensland I, my excuse is a long drive of about 1,000 km that day, I ordered spaghetti marijuana … the young waiter did not know how to answer, the boys were laughing and I realised my mistake and quickly corrected it: spaghetti marinara please.

I’ve yet to meet a sane “green” person.

It is not restricted to “greens”. I once meet an attractive young woman whose demeanor and appearance both seemed to change to bizarre foaming at the mouth when she confided that “we” were soon going to pass legislation that would take the guns away from all those old men who sleep with them under their pillow. That would learn them!

There are no doubt degrees of the disease destroying the minds of all those who are intent on enforcing their own special dementia on everyone else, but they are all a problem for society at large. There are several very obvious specimens in the US Senate and Executive branch.

From the article: “Mali shares, “I have watched the town I love be decimated by a [human-caused] climate disaster.”

No, you have not. It’s a figment of your imagination. There is no evidence humans are causing a climate disaster. You are a victim of human-caused climate change propaganda.

In this case, I think the court was right to rule that Mali has mental problems.

Mali needs to come to WUWT to get her thinking headed in the right direction. We will treat her human-caused climate change delusions and soon she will be spitting at human-caused climate change demonstrators.

Better get this information to Kerry, Gore, and Markey for their respective defense teams.

It depends on what Australia’s policy is on “not guilty by reason of insanity”—if if is long involuntary comittment, the defense might get used much less. This looks more like judicial nullification, though.

Global warming activists are loony tunes.
I can agree with that.

The “cognitive impairment or mental health issues” excuse is like the “dog ate my homework” excuse of a lazy school boy. Only the dumbest teacher would accept it.

Well, now I know what I have to state if I am in NSW and I am committing any crime: I see my town being destroyed by climate disaster

We need to open an Arkham to house these loonies.

Mali Cooper is clearly a loony and society needs to be protected from her anti-social activities. She needs proper psychological treatment for her climate mental health issues.

If she is sane (and she surely is [*]) then Mali Cooper should herself appeal against the finding.
[*]-Misguided, yes. Brainwashed, possibly. But sane, yes.

There is no proper treatment. This is willful ignorance, plain and simple.

I worry that this court decision can be taken the way I think the defence intended…

“Climate Change” [supposedly somehow] caused a traumatic destruction of a town by flooding it.
This person’s mental health was harmed as a direct result of witnessing the effects [supposedly] of “Climate Change”.
And therefore S14 can be applied in defense of any and all actions by anyone who is [conned into] believing that something traumatic that has happened before is instead something that Climate Change did,
AND [conned into] believing that something humans produce a little of [in comparison to natural sources] is somehow causing climate related events [all of them, including the ones that are not even “changes”],
AND by some utterly distorted [S14] reasoning is [conned into] believing that disruptive actions that cause cost and trauma to others [possibly life threatening if any ambulance was blocked] will result in fixing the whole problem [using solar panels and exploding lithium batteries].

In 1969, a low-flying aircraft with radiation detectors discovered one of the world’s premiuym uranium mines. I was part of the team soon after. Together, we developed the Ranger Uranium Mine, Orebodies Number 1 and 3. There was emerging evidence that more mines could be found.
Because activists destroyed my uranium province, we now have the huge Jabiluka deposit nearby sitting there untouched. I was at Jabiluke the day it was discovered, so I have a heartstring interest in it.
These big uranium deposits are worth tens of billions of $$$ apiece. When a country seeks to divert effort to the production of new wealth, then mining is one option. Sadly, those Australian politicians wearing dunce caps who profess to be wise about our future are being so incredibly dumb that they favour the largely incoherent mutterings of a few stray aborigines and their academic advisors who say there is value in preserving the traditions and myths of the aborigines. Mates, I have been there and there are bugger all original traditions. What is touted today as the prime reason to stop more uranium mining is stories concocted by largely socialist academics since the 1940s and their dishonest creative minds.
This girl Mali laments the damage from a flood. The blames fossil fuel burning rather than silly people building homes where floods are known. She thinks the damage to a few dozen homes is as big a loss as the loss of a couple of new big multi-billion dollar mines that she and her ilk stole from us.
I would support a finding of mental incompetence, but would note that it is more widespread than ordinary folk imagine.

For her treatment, she should be compelled to take the following courses. Physics, mathematics and science.

Now if only our political leaders can be diagnosed for their climate policy insanity, we might see some progress!
