Checkbook Journalism: Bought & Paid for Climate ‘News’: NPR Announces Facebook’s Zuckerberg & Rockefeller Foundation Will Be funding NPR’s ‘Climate Desk’

NPR’s SVP of News and Editorial Director Nancy Barnes:  “No story touches as many people as climate change. Heat waves, mega-droughts and unprecedented floods are all becoming more intense and frequent. Climate related weather disasters are upending the way people live from China to California, from Pakistan to Florida. These extreme events have caused a global food crisis, the rise of new diseases and the displacement of millions of people,” added Kissack. “With the NPR newsroom and Member stations, we’ll strive to do stories that shape the national conversation on climate change.” … NPR’s climate expansion has also been made possible by the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, whose funding is helping NPR to add a new Climate Solutions reporter, as well as The Rockefeller Foundation, whose support will allow for more local and regional reporting on how climate change affects the most vulnerable populations.

Announcing the NPR Climate Desk

Sept. 14, 2022; Washington, D.C. — Beginning October 1st NPR will launch a new climate desk that will harness the strengths of existing national and international coverage and build greater local coverage capacity across the network. …”Climate might be the most important story of our time and we need a dedicated team of journalists to cover it and work across desks in our newsroom and with our international bureaus,” said NPR’s SVP of News and Editorial Director Nancy Barnes. “The new climate desk will collaborate with Member stations to do ambitious work that builds on their deep local expertise.”

Bill Gates buys the media: ‘Pumps out tens of millions of dollars annually to pay for positive media’ – Morano’s The Great Reset book excerpt

The Great Reset book by Marc Morano: The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation pumps out tens of millions of dollars annually to pay for positive media. Media partnerships and sponsorships essentially buy slick public relations for Gates and his foundations. Gates influences coverage of global health and development issues as a “top 10 donor” to BBC’s Media Action organization. In the United Kingdom, he also funds The Guardian’s Global Development website. And Gates funds NPR’s global-health coverage.

Flashback: Paid press releases now officially the news: AP announces ‘largest single expansion’ of climate reporting ‘paid for through philanthropic grants’ of $8 million

Welcome to a new form of Checkbook Journalism.

Morano: “The AP will now have zero ‘obligation to serve as watchdogs over public affairs and government’ and instead be approved messaging lapdogs to their paymasters. Will the AP ever offend their donors and looks critically at the UN IPCC climate panel? Or NASA? It’s a laughable thought.”

Associated-Press-logo.png

Climate Depot analysis:

“Objectivity, balance, neutrality, plurality, and bias are among the concepts used to evaluate news media programming,” noted a report from Professor Natalie Jomini Stroud, Ph.D. of The Annette Strauss Institute for Civic Participation at the University of Texas at Austin.

In 2009, Climate Depot founder, Marc Morano, launched Climate Depot with this statement: “It is very hard to get accurate information on global warming and environmental issues. Much of what the media reports is simply a regurgitation of the rhetoric from partisan and ideologically driven environmental groups, foundations, and the United Nations, which are spinning data to promote a cause,” Morano said.

Morano added in 2009: “Sadly, many of today’s mainstream climate reporters would be better-suited writing newsletters for Al Gore than attempting to inform the public about the latest climate science developments.”

Fast forward to 2022. My comments in 2009 are even more prescient with AP’s announcement that they will be a pay-to-report news agency. The Associated Press will be tossing their journalistic ethics out the window.

The Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) issued its “Code of Ethics” for journalists. Let’s see how AP’s big announcement that big donors are going to drive their climate change news holds up to these ethical journalist codes.

Key excerpts from SPJ Code of Ethics:

The Rockefeller Foundation is a “pillar of the liberal philanthropic establishment,” a report from InfluenceWatch, which tracks non-profit organizations, said. …

The Walton Family Foundation is an active donor to multiple environmental groups, including the Environmental Defense Fund, World Wildlife Fund, Natural Resources Defense Council and the Meridian Institute. The foundation also funded the New Venture Fund, which helps grow left-wing advocacy groups, according to InfluenceWatch. …

AP Climate Army? It’s a laughable thought.” The organizations that opted to exchange cash for influence included left-wing organizations like the William and Flora Hewlett FoundationThe Quadrivium FoundationThe Rockefeller Foundation and the Walton Family Foundation.

The Rockefeller Foundation has a sordid history of extremism. The Rockefeller Archive Center, a research center and grantmaking organization, documented the group’s funding of population control research in the past. Additionally, “Dean Rusk, who served as Rockefeller Foundation president in the 1950s, led an effort to dramatically expand federal population control funds when he served as Secretary of State in the Kennedy and Johnson administrations,” Influence Watch reported.

The Walton Family Foundation of Walmart fame also got in on the climate action. It awarded at least $64,597,090 in grants to the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF). The EDF held a string of events in 2020 that exploited the Marxist Black Lives Matter protests and riots to rail how “[c]urrent demands for racial justice have put the spotlight on environmental racism.”

AP Announces Sweeping Climate Journalism Initiative – The Associated Press will significantly expand its climate coverage, creating a standalone desk and hiring about 20 journalists – The expansion is being supported by several philanthropic organizations, including the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, Quadrivium and The Rockefeller Foundation. AP retains complete editorial control of all content.

I fully realize it would require an honest Justice Department to go after them, but it seems quite evident that these mega-tax-exempt “philanthropies” are skating far over the line of what is (should be?) the definition of 501 c3 corporations.

The principal bases for tax-exempt corporations is that they are organized exclusively for tax-exempt purposes including “charitable, religious, educational, scientific, literary, testing for public safety, fostering national or international amateur sports competition, and preventing cruelty to children or animals”. Oh, and they must not engage in political action or engage in activities for/against candidates for public office.

How does giving gobs of tax-exempt money to for-profit “information” corporations come anywhere near the “exempt purposes” listed above?

It does not. This is mass-scale money laundering.

And Lois Lerner (IRS) demonstrated that only conservative organizations get scrutinized for tax-exempt status – and declined

It’s time to remove ALL tax-exempt activities and abolish the self-serving corporations.

Genuine societal needs will still be supported by generous, charitable Americans, as they were long before the “temporary/emergency” tax code was created.

“…Oh, and they must not engage in political action or engage in activities for/against candidates for public office.”

Yeah, riiiight.

The Left’s own words. They just couldn’t keep themselves from bragging about what they did in 2020.

“…Dinesh D’Souza went to prison for giving a friend $20,000 for her campaign. Mark Zuckerberg dropped $350 million on progressive activists to jury-rig the vote gathering and tallying predominantly in heavily Democratic areas.
You want to see an example of what this led to? On Friday, Gateway Pundit released surveillance video from Detroit’s TCF Center, one of the mega-centers set up to tally votes. Watch a van registered to the city of Detroit pull up at 3:23 am and unload tens of thousands of ballots. An hour later, it returns to unload even more ballots. No ballots arriving after 8 pm were supposed to be counted. Michigan, of course, is where Biden had one of his overnight massive vote spikes.
The story was released on Friday. Twitter permanently suspended Gateway Pundit on Sunday. The conspiracy rolls on.
“They fended off voter-suppression lawsuits …”
Translation: Lawsuits that pushed for voter ID or for state voter registration rolls to be cleared of dead people, people who’d moved out of state, or otherwise ineligible voters. In other words, they blocked lawsuits that would protect the sacred American principle of one legal voter, one legal vote.

Think about the sheer irony here: how long have we all be subjected to the mainstream media, including National Public Radio in the U.S., telling us they are independent journalists while they excoriate anyone who criticizes their reporting as “paid political shills of …”, well, whoever the enemy du jour is at the time. Simply say “CAGW is not settled science!” and the automatic reply is “Anyone saying that is a paid shill of Big Oil who won’t get their Exxon check if they say anything Exxon doesn’t approve of.”

Anyone care to guess what will happen to an NPR reporter who questions the CAGW orthodoxy of Zuckerberg or Facebook?

I’ve participated in WUWT for I guess about a decade now, if not more. I have never seen so many new participants than over the last two years.

Kicking people off FB and Twitter is likely driving people to sites like WUWT just to find some independent information, it would seem to me.

It could be argued that people are also being driven to climate alarmist sites however, why would they when they have FB/Twitter etc. to keep them warm at night, figuratively speaking of course. Alarmist sites do little more than regurgitate what the MSM spews anyway, so are of little interest to most people I would suggest.

Yup. I’ve now been driven off FB for the sixth or seventh time in two years (nom de plume after nom de plume) for reasons that are never explained or made clear. The first time, my original account, was clearly (and I have a very good idea who was at the foundation of it) respecting the LGBTQ/trans subject now rife in America and throughout the West.

This time, they used a trick they had used before on me (“We detected suspicious activity on your account”) and now require me to go through a set of hoops to get back in to my account. This was the last time. Recent revelations about how snitches at FB are siphoning information to the FBI on people who express perspectives that are now perceived to make them “enemies of the people” have convinced me to take my entire name and said perspectives off of FB permanently (that I might not be flagged as a “terrorist” for disbelieving in DAGW/CAGW or other traditional progressive nostrums). I actually have an account on Twitter that’s been there for a number of years, but I’ve never bothered using it.

WUWT is one such oasis. I also have others (including my longstanding WordPress blog).

Of course they are. FB is a shill for Biden, the Ds and the Left. You can bet good money that this is not the only time FB “cooperates” with the FBI and the Biden administration and does their bidding. The fact that the Gov. ordering a private company to censor facts it doesn’t like is illegal and Unconstitutional doesn’t matter, not to our current DOJ, FBI and White House, anyway.

September 19, 2022 6:46 am

As it is, journalists make outrageous claims in their articles that simply do not pass a close examination. When your job does not depend on getting climate matters right but simply pushing the narrative you get statements like I saw this morning:
“Decades ago, scientists concluded that fossil fuels were causing immense damage to the planet through climate change.” (Newstalk)

In simple English: over 20 years ago scientists were able to see extensive damage in our world that they were able to attribute directly to climate change. If it were so evident then, it should be even more apparent today 20 years later. Where is the evidence of this damage. I have not seen it in different countries where I have lived. Instead over this period the population of the world has increased by more than 26%, total food production has been soaring, deaths per million from natural disasters has fallen considerably, islands have not disappeared into the sea, average temperatures have barely moved up, areas promised perpetual drought have had a surprising amount of rain over a number of years.

These journalists are either living in an alternate reality or else simply prepared to write this garbage as long as they are well paid. The above report would support the latter.

“…total food production has been soaring, deaths per million from natural disasters has fallen considerably…”

It looks, however, that with the combination of the destruction of modern energy generation, the mass banning of synthetic fertilizers (the major boon to mankind of the “first green revolution”), the abolishing of the internal combustion engine and petroleum-fueled vehicles and attempted electrification of the motor pools of entire nations, eventuating in the crushing of modern industry, including agricultural production, distribution and the price of food and virtually entire productive processes by the aforementioned drastic state-enforced energy poverty, these indicators may soon be going south.

A great many people need to sit down and think long and hard about what these policies and the ideological doctrines driving them portend.

(2) Will every NPR story dealing with climate disclose that NPR has accepted bribes in return for creating and distributing climate propaganda and misinformation?

Everything the media puts out isn’t just news, it’s the heartbreaker human story; emotional

[How is it possible for you to be so easily tricked by something so simple as a story, because you are tricked? Well, it all comes down to one core thing and that is emotional investment. The man who knew the only way to change world opinion was by starting and funding dozens of “grassroots “ organizations worldwide to spread his message ( propaganda ) of global environmental crisis designed to lead to world governance . He didn’t even bother to try hide his goals or ambition . Through the UN and the billions he directed from there and through oligarchs like his partner Ted turner and his Rockefeller buddies The organizations that have become the force behind the global warming story were all started and funded by Maurice strong . The man who was caught taking a million dollar bribe simply moved to China but is still widely revered for his “ environmentalism “ . His influence from beyond the grave now controls most of the worlds news media . Only the failure of environmental apocalypse As the years go by can derail the propaganda juggernaut he created . The money has to come from somewhere. Every meaningful (size) source will have a point of view and every recipient will always know or should always know what that point of view is.

No matter how many promises are made, and bibles are sworn, the donor will at some point be tempted to intervene and the recipient will be tempted to color their output.

Consumer: We have the internet. Spend some getting news and information from many sources — even those with which you disagree. Especially those with which you disagree.

Not a drop of science in her past. Thoroughly unable to judge the veracity or reliability of any scientiness blather that crosses her desk.

She does apparently have a talent for “powerful storytelling,” which should uniquely qualify her to report on the pseudoscience that is AGW climatology.

Neela Banerjee is the Deputy Climate editor of NPR’s Science Desk and reports to Addrea Kissak. Ms. Banerjee has a 4-year degree from Yale, but seems very modest about revealing the discipline. One may wonder if it’s well away from any hint of actual science.

philanthrocapitalism

No, philanthroFascism more like. Watching Project Nazi just last night the difference between communism and fascism was made clear by the statement that German factories remained owned by private people, and not nationalised as in the Soviet Union.

On the subject of philanthropy and how it is now a force for evil, I was reading a book about a village on the south coast of England. In just this small village, there were numerous occasions that a person bought some land and paid to build a school, a hospital, a convalescent home etc. Since the rise of socialism and the nanny state, all of this has gone and we are left poorer because of it.
