The climate crusade is fueled by deficit spending both in removing wind and solar and EVs from the tax code and by limitless spending by the U.S. Department of Energy. So it was extremely positive when Senator Joe Manchin III (D-WV), head of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, renounced his support for the climate provisions of Build Back Better legislation under debate. A $555 billion global warming subsidy bill was in the works, throwing good money after bad.
Manchin spokesman Sam Runyon stated:
Political headlines are of no value to the millions of Americans struggling to afford groceries and gas as inflation soars to 9.1 percent. Sen. Manchin believes it’s time for leaders to put political agendas aside, reevaluate and adjust to the economic realities the country faces to avoid taking steps that add fuel to the inflation fire.
Manchin’s announcement was foreshadowed by this press release earlier this week (July 13, 2022):

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics published their monthly Consumer Price Index Report indicating consumer inflation has risen to 9.1%, the largest 12-month increase since 1981.
“Today’s inflation data illustrates the pain families across the country are feeling as costs continue to rise at a historic rate. 9.1% is cause for serious concern…. For more than a year, leaders in Washington have ignored the serious concerns raised by myself and others about the rising cost of inflation…. Still, Senator Manchin should reject the wasteful energy ‘bribes’ sent his way, such as the “clean hydrogen” hubs in West Virginia that turn natural gas into hydrogen with a carbon capture add-on. Still in the soliciting stage (for subsidies), this wasteful project can be scrapped in the name of fiscal prudency and deficit reduction.

I am careful about what I believe and that includes what comes from both sides. This is
interesting. A measure of the validity of the author’s thoughts may come when we get the July inflation reports about which it says,
“…First, in the month-to-month comparison, July will not carry the same scale of gasoline and energy increases as June. Second, in the year-over-year comparison, July ’22 will be comparing to July 2021 when prices already started skyrocketing. Bottom line, July inflation will give the illusion of dropping, which gives Manchin a shield to support the spending…. and he will.”
With the PPI @ 11.3% & the CPI @ 9.1%, it will be harder for the CPI to drop than the PPI.
If Manchin wants to defeat the bill, he’ll use the CPI reading next month. If he’s looking to
eventually back it, he’ll refer to the PPI to make that case, as it probably has a better chance of
dropping since gas $$$ are dropping & the economy probably is slowing. He could even make the
case that neither is rising as quickly as they once were. Politicians can be quite slick.
Because WV is R+23, that in itself may lock him in to not supporting the spending. He could also
switch to the GOP & really cause heads to explode!
Manchin should just announce he has switched parties and in now a Republican. That would give the GOP control of the Senate and Mitch M. could make Manchin chair of any committee he wants.
Manchin is NOT SWITCHING PARTIES.
He cares not whether he is Rep or Dem … but, HE DOES CARE whether he will be getting REELECTED.
IOW: bless him for this decision, but, it was a NO BRAINER because he is doing what his constituents want; where, if he voted otherwise, there’s a good chance that he would lose reelection.
IOW: Manchin is a POS JUDAS politician which fits the description of about 99% of our elected Congressional representation.

Why do attorney politicians recommend government actions that are clearly unconstitutional. The last SCOTUS term’s had 3 blockbuster decisions that has triggered democrat congressmen & senators to introduce unconstitutional laws & recommend Joe Biden to exceed his executive authority to counter Dobbs, NYSRPA & WV opinions. WV stated the executive branch can only regulate what Congress has clearly authorized.
I have been wondering about that, as well. All politicians to include the President takes an oath of office to protect and defend the Constitution.

I wish they were removed, as then they’d be treated as any other business transaction. The problem is the provisions inserted in the Code to shove money in the direction of the wasteful expenditure on the bird killers and fryers.
Renewable energy scams are ripe grounds for money making and money laundering all over the world wherever governments i.e. taxpayers subsidize them. It’s a racket and, it appears, a great many politicians, here and abroad, have aided, abetted and most likely profited from these same scams. The politicians are incentivized to not change the tax code or do anything else that make sense in regards to “renewable energy.” I’m fairly sure EVs and batteries suffer from the same malady.

As I’ve said before, it is amazing how much time we always seem to have left when we’re running out of it.
There are few sensible politicians anywhere these days. Many I note are lawyers, unionists and other unproductive types who have little knowledge of science and do not appear to accept real data preferring fictional computer models. As the European green dream collapses so we hope the house of cards continues to disintegrate around the world. Senator Manchin is a realist and recognises that the real workers in society have different world views than the pompous non working elitists and their dumb followers.

Gordon, please read “Hockey Stick” Mann’s qualifier: “leading all-time carbon polluter” He is talking cumulative CO2 emissions. I don’t know if it is true, but emissions going forward is the only thing that matters, as you point out.

China is already the 2nd all time carbon consumer and by eyeballing the graphs looks to match the States in less than 50 years time… with India close behind.
And when that happens we’ll still be hearing that it’s our last chance to reduce emissions to avoid climate disaster.
I suspect, but cannot prove, that the land we now know as China has ALWAYS been the “all-time carbon polluter” (in terms of man-made emissions of CO2 into Earth’s atmosphere).
This is based on the facts that:
1) The population of the territory of China has always vastly exceeded that of the territory we now call the United States.
2) Since entering the Holocene and up to about the mid-1800’s, the populace of “China” —like other human populations in temperate latitudes on Earth— has relied almost exclusively on the burning of biomass (predominately trees and dry brush) and accessible surface outcrops of coal to create heat for cooking, for warmth and for light.
3) While from the mid-1800’s up until perhaps the mid-1900’s China did not industrialize as much as did the US (and thus had a lower rate of CO2 emissions on a per capita basis), it’s not at all clear if this difference offset the huge population difference . . . after all, people in China were still emitting CO2 by continuing to burn biomass and coal, with these uses increased enormously by introduction of industrial-scale harvesting and mining equipment.
4) China still has a per capita CO2 emissions rate that is lower than that of the US, but now emits more that twice the total annual anthropogenic CO2 emissions simply due to the huge difference in population: about 0.33 billion for the US versus about 1.45 billion for China.
So I come here because I see you all as the ones who can argue against or debunk the claims made by the alarmists and I like that. One thing I keep hoping to get a reply or replies on is good solid scientific debunkings against the claims made by Jem Bendell in his Deep Adaptation paper, extinction rebellion, Sam Carana from the Arctic News site and Guy Mcpherson with the near term human extinction 2026. It’s the claims they make along with ‘tipping points’ and ‘positive feedback loops’ and what others say about all this that keeps me awake at night and I’m really hoping someone can really scientifically debunk all of this.
My advice: Stop reading these people. For you, they’re poison. They and others like them have been saying the sky is falling for the last 40 years, usually in ten year increments. Start reading Tony Heller.

Trust your common sense: how is the world supposed to end over an extra 2 -3 degrees over the next few decades?
The world has been completely tropical during the time of the dinosaurs when the world was teeming with life much more than now, and has gone through many periods of ice and warmth since a few millions of years ago.
What is 3 degrees compared to that?
What is 3 degrees over a century compared to the -30 to +35°C that is typical range I have to put up with?
And that’s if the predictions come true but it’s not likely, as it has taken 150 years to barely register 1 degree.
It’s not the world I’m worried about ending, it’s us, humans, will WE be able to survive this? So many say because of the tipping points and feedback loops that we won’t, so many say that we’re doomed and that it’s too late, that what is being done is not enough and should have been done a long time ago, I’m crippled with fear and anxiety and I’m just looking for a good scientific explanation that shows this simply isn’t true

When in doubt, the Greenies are guaranteed to hit the Climate Apocalypse/Imminent Doomsday buttons, except the inflation-plagued general populace is listening less and less while its impatience is growing exponentially. Hopefully the November mid-term elections will show where the real concerns lie and some common sense will be restored so that money will stop being directed at unworkable solutions. Until high-capacity storage batteries become widespread enough to capture and store energy from renewables like wind and solar to power entire cities, those sources will continue to be intermittent and unreliable, and fossil fuels will continue to dominate.
Many quotes in the article mention how one man will be killing the future. The future will be fine. I am sure that 1 senators did not do much. There were 51 votes against the green boondoogle; not one.
These people truly live in a different universe. They are so disconnected from the lives of ordinary people they can’t comprehend the challenges they face. And so disconnected from logic they can’t comprehend that net zero will literally cause more suffering than the problem they are trying to solve. If you can’t grow enough crops to feed yourself or afford to travel to work. What good does saving the earth do? That’s assuming you even have a job to go to. A economy is required to support humanity.
