My New Book – Soaring on Amazon – Get your copy now!

Climate at a Glance is Available for Purchase Today on Amazon. It has already jumped to the top of many book categories for “new releases.” It is now the #1 new release in Climatology.

So I’ve been working on this for about a year. It’s ready. I give it about 72 hours before the forces of darkness try to take it down from Amazon. (Update : it has started, see review posted below.)

My new book: Climate at a Glance for Teachers and Students: Facts on 30 Prominent Climate Topics – is available on Amazon.com for the first time and debuted on Earth Day

Although I’m the primary author, the book is published by The Heartland Institute, the 2022 edition of the book breaks down 30 of the most frequently argued climate issues into short, “at-a-glance” summaries that provide, accurate, critical information concerning climate change. Topics include the latest data and analysis of the climate’s effect on crop production, drought, floods, coral reefs, sea-level rise, ice melt, extreme weather, the urban heat-island effect, wildfires, polar bears, the effect of COVID-19 on carbon dioxide levels, and more.

“Each topic has key takeaways, and is cited and referenced, often using U.S. government data from NOAA, NASA, EPA and other agencies to cut through the clutter and show the reality of each climate topic,” said Heartland Institute Senior fellow Anthony Watts,

“After spending decades on-camera during the evening TV news presenting meteorological events and trying to explain them in a way that a layperson can understand, I applied that experience to the production of this book.

“Simple, easy-to-digest explanations, factual references, and compelling graphics allow for easy reading of what are often complex climate topics,” Watts said.

BONUS: The paperback of the book contains links and a scannable QR-code to freely downloadable and distributable digital PDF copies of the book, as well as a PowerPoint slide deck for all the topics.

Co-author and Heartland Institute President James Taylor, who has studied, debated, and written about environmental and energy issues for nearly 20 years, says this book is an essential resource for teachers, students, and parents to counter the one-sided and alarmist climate instruction in most public schools today.

“The environmental left has done everything in its power to monopolize climate messaging and prevent students from learning the truth about asserted climate change,” Taylor said. “Climate at a Glance for Teachers and Students shows that scientific truth will always win out over agenda-driven propaganda.”

H. Sterling Burnett, director of the Arthur B. Robinson Center on Climate and Environment Policy at The Heartland Institute, edited Watts’ and Taylor’s work. The book presents facts without the “hyperbolic statements of doom” common in academia and popular culture.

“If teachers are going to discuss climate change in their classrooms, the discussions should be grounded in an accurate representation of the science,” Burnett said. “Climate at a Glance provides this in a form easily accessible for teachers and students alike. Without frills or hyperbolic statements of doom, using verifiable data for topic after topic, Climate at a Glance demonstrates there is no climate crisis.”

UPDATE: Barton Paul Levinson, who hangs out at RealClimate has posted an Amazon review that is in my opinion, libelous. I doubt he even read it. There’s no “fossil fuel” money behind this. And I challenge him to factually discredit any entry. He can’t, so he resorts to this.

Readers of the book can post their own review, but please read it first.

I have it here now
I will be sharing a review with a bunch of folks I know
Make sure my 2 copies to get to teachers.
And then will buy more to share with others including politicians here in California
I have already prepared a presentation with similar but far less information I have been sharing with folks.
I must apologize ahead of time that I will add a lot of the graphics and information in the book (with acknowledgements of course) to my presentation
Please pray that I can make a difference behind the lines.

Received my copy yesterday. Great job on highlighting reality on the top big issues that are always grossly misrepresented by the idiot climate alarmist Democratic Party buffoons, their ignorant and incompetent shills in the media and the never ending propaganda machine at the UN IPCC.

The EU and UK are now living the horror of renewable energy mandates that are destroying economies and the Ukraine is paying the price of these nations absurd energy and climate policy incompetence that has weakened the ability to fight dangerous dictatorships.

I get the idea that the forces of darkness will waste little time on organising rapid excommunication – possibly followed by a burning at the stake on social media.

But my question is this: how will you convince teachers to even consider this book when they themselves have been indoctrinated and firmly believe the narrative? Their unions are… firm believers in the narrative…

“Education unions call for urgent action on climate change crisis “

https://www.unison.org.uk/news/press-release/2021/10/education-unions-call-for-urgent-action-on-climate-change-crisis/

That’s long before kids get to wokesville – formerly known as a university.

PS, Anthony: I truly hope that your sales of Climate at a Glance for Teachers and Students: Facts on 30 Prominent Climate Topics do stay high, because mine always started off well and then dropped to obscurity a short time later.

Example: Dad, Why Are You A Global Warming Denier? was number one in two categories on Amazon a day after it was released there, as I documented in the post here:
Eeeek! DAD, WHY ARE YOU A GLOBAL WARMING DENIER? Is Number 1 on TWO Amazon Best Seller Lists | Bob Tisdale – Climate Observations (wordpress.com)
Now, four+ years later it’s dropped to 40th and 177th.

A suggestion: At the top of the right-hand margin of the main page here at WUWT (and all subsequent pages), add a link to your new book Climate at a Glance for Teachers and Students: Facts on 30 Prominent Climate Topics.

Actions speak louder than words Brent.

Kenney is a polished politician who speaks well, but his actions are fundamentally the same as Justin Trudeau’s.

Kenney completely botched both the Climate and the Covid files – almost identical to Trudeau, who probably knew what he was doing more than Kenney did.

Ed Stelmach previously held the record for “most harmful Alberta Premier” with his utterly botched Petroleum Royalty changes – unbelievably wrong!

Kenney’s acquiescence to every woke idiocy both Climate and Covid has eclipsed Stelmach’s incompetence and caused thousands of times more harm.

I agree Allan…I didn’t even like Kenney when is was in Harper’s federal cabinet. Now he done gone and screwed up Alberta Conservatives again, sort of like Alison Redford did in the dying days of the old Conservative Party. Now Alberta conservatives may split again, allowing the insidious socialist NDP to come up the middle. That would be a disaster, again.

Several people bought copies of your book for their school libraries – I can see some conflict there, as woke librarians organize a book-burning, and torch you in effigy, complete with “monotonic chanting, tearing of hair and gnashing of teeth”.

You’ll probably also receive demonic curses lodged upon your immortal soul – as an antidote, try extra doses of Ivermectin, Quercetin, Vitamins D & C, and Melatonin at bedtime. Can’t hurt, also it cures Covid-19 and seems to help with moderate vaccine injuries – stopped chronic bleeding and fatigue in two friends, a retired physician and a registered nurse. 🙂

And congratulations – you have your first one star review 🙂 It’s not clear if the author actually purchased the book.

“This book is a compendium of discredited myths put out by the fossil fuel industry to stop anything being done about the very real threat posed by global warming. It is pseudoscience masquerading as science, and it doesn’t even have the virtue of being written by some misguided amateur like Velikovsky or Von Daniken. Yes, I noticed the negative comment too. It didn’t take long for Big Brother’s thought police to find it and go on the attack against it. Control of thought is absolutely vital if one’s agenda for climate and the planet is to go forward without any problems. The “evil” fossil fuel companies and their products must be defeated so that Big Brother and his faithful minions can “save the planet”.

It should not take long for the thought police to demand that Anthony’s new book be removed from Amazon’s website (along with other like books). Shame on Anthony for this latest threat to undermine the virtuous and righteous holiness of our beloved Big Brother! /sarc

April 25, 2022 11:29 am

5 years ago, I was speaking to a group of 2 classes worth of 5th graders, who had been studying weather in their science class at school(as a meteorologist). When I mentioned that carbon dioxide was a beneficial gas that’s greening up the planet, their teacher, said out loud “Wow, I never thought of that!”
Multiply that ignorance by tens of thousands of classrooms around the country and we have the recipe for a generation raised to believe that CO2 is pollution destroying the planet based on junk science.

I haven’t read the book yet but feel confident, knowing Anthony’s understanding of authentic meteorology and climate that ALL science teachers and their students would expand their understanding of those subjects by reading/using it.

The review by the book hater tells us about their tunnel vision, debate is over, anti science(science is settled mentality). At the very least, they should have recognized that the book makes some good scientific points which aren’t being considered……and that’s what science is all about.
Instead, ironically, he accuses the book of trying to do exactly what he is doing.

His accusation that the authors are intentionally lying for political purposes (to sabotage his altruistic, save the planet agenda, we assume) is offensive anti science, DISinformation slander.

When buying something on Amazon that would appear to be too good to be true, I often skip to the one star reviews or trying decide on two choices. .

My favorite is the review that stated that the product he received was not the color he wanted. I checked the description. He was right. It only came in one color, not the one he wanted.

I suspect this book will get many one star reviews because it will come with facts they do not want.

At least you get to be interviewed on TV in USA. This would never happen in the UK, the land in the grip of climate alarmists. Not just the BBC, all the media. It is cult-like. ‘Barton Paul Levenson (born May 9, 1960) is an American writer of science fiction, fantasy and the macabre’ (Wiki).
Macabre: adjective, disturbing because concerned with or causing a fear of death: a macabre series of murders (Oxford).
Seems he gets kicks and makes a living from scaring the sh!t out of people, naturally he’s into climate change™.

April 25, 2022 7:24 pm

From Barton Paul Levenson’s quoted review of the subject book: “It is put out by people who know very well that they are lying . . .”

Of course there is no objective evidence put forward to substantiate this accusation, so hence it stands as a shining example of the logical fallacy of the Strawman Argument.

Thank you, Mr. Levenson, for the contributing to the “dumbing down of humanity”. NOT!

Actually it’s almost certainly libel. Any lawyers here care to comment?

Reply to  ThinkingScientist

For a “private person” to have standing to bringing a civil suit of libel against another person or organization is relatively straightforward.

However, for a “public figure” to have standing to bring a libel suit against another person or organization is much problematic.

I do believe that Anthony Watts would certainly be classified as a “public figure” by dint of creating and managing the wattsupwiththat.com website and by virtue of his numerous publicly-available talks and videos and written articles.

Similarly, co-author James Taylor would almost certainly be classified as a “public figure” just because he is President of the Heartland Institute.

“In libel cases, plaintiffs who are public figures or officials have to meet a more stringent standard (actual malice) than do private citizens (negligence) if they are to collect damages.
“Thus, the status of a defamation plaintiff often affects the outcome of cases, as the courts balance the right of free press against an individual’s reputation. When it comes to printed defamation (libel), several court decisions have defined public figures, including government officials, as having the burden of proving that defendants libeled them with actual malice.”
source: https://mtsu.edu/first-amendment/article/1010/public-figures-and-officials

I am not a lawyer, but my years (and the Web) have given me sufficient reasoning to act like one. 😉

I am not a lawyer either but, the review was designed to deter people from buying an intellectual product thereby causing financial and reputational harm to the authors.
That seems malicious on a both counts and should be subject to damages. Since someone replied that his review was “helpful” that gives credence to the proposition that he was able to cause harm financially and reputationally.

Reply to  Brad-DXT
April 27, 2022 11:43 am

But, Levenson is posting as an individual, not associated with any business or organization, and nowhere in his post does he specifically state words to the effect of “people should not purchase this book”. Levenson only comments “Please keep this trash out of our schools.” . . . and that is correctly seen as a request, not a demand.

So, not matter how vitriolic and unsubstantiated and malicious-sounding his review comment appears to be, IMHO it still falls within the clause of the First Amendment of the Constitution as protected free speech.

Hence, on the whole, one would have a hard time—again IMHO—pursuing a civil lawsuit based on “business interference”.

And I fail to see the logic of your last paragraph . . . (a) there is no way to ascertain if that “someone” really ever intended to buy the subject book, and (b) courts of law have a very hard time with admitting claimed “intentions” of any person outside of the plaintiff or defendant are equivalent to objective evidence.

Reply to  Gordon A. Dressler

Perhaps we should leave the legal issues to attorneys.
Since we have first amendment rights to state unsubstantiated and vitriolic comments, perhaps we could find reviews for his books and trash them without reading them to let him know how it feels.

Does the book address the fact that a computer simulation cannot reproduce bad data? I have wondered for a while how many power stations were kept burning to power the supercomputers that attempted to reproduce the hockey stick curve.

April 25, 2022 9:10 pm

I can sum up the whole climate issue if a few short lines:

5000 years ago, there was the Egyptian 1st Unified Kingdom warm period
4400 years ago, there was the Egyptian old kingdom warm period.
3000 years ago, there was the Minoan Warm period. It was warmer than now WITHOUT fossil fuels.
Then 1000 years later, there was the Roman warm period. It was warmer than now WITHOUT fossil fuels.
Then 1000 years later, there was the Medieval warm period. It was warmer than now WITHOUT fossil fuels.
Then 1000 years later, came our current warm period. You are claiming that whatever caused those earlier warm periods suddenly quit causing warm periods, only to be replaced by man’s CO2 emission, perfectly in time for the cycle of warmth every 1000 years to stay on schedule. Not very believable.

The entire climate scam crumbles on this one observation because it shows that there is nothing unusual about today’s temperature and ALL claims of unusual climate are based on claims of excess warmth caused by man’s CO2.

http://www.debunkingclimate.com/warm_periods.html
http://www.debunkingclimate.com/climatehistory.html
http://www.debunkingclimate.com

Feel free to disagree by showing actual evidence that man’s CO2 is causing serious global warming.

Of course you are illuminating the motivation behind the Hockey Stick falsification of the climate record.

The logic of what you said is unassailable, except through natural climate change denial. And that’s why the beady-eyed bloated turd sandwich (Mann of the State Pen) is a natural climate change denier.

There are many sincere Climastrology believers who have been deceived, and others who have deceived themselves, but I cannot be deterred from believing that the infamous Mann knows very clearly that he is deceiving with “Mike’s Nature Trick”.

I tell people that, based on the paleoclimate record and the work done with models, the climate change we have been experiencing today is caused by the sun and the oceans over which mankind has no control. Despite the hype, there is no real evidence that CO2 has any effect on climate and there is plenty of scientific rationale to support the conclusion that the climate sensitivity of CO2 is zero. Hence all efforts to reduce CO2 emissions will have no effect on global climate. The AGW hypothesis is based on only partial science and is full of flaws. For example, H2O is suppose to be be the primary greenhouse gas yet adding it to the atmosphere causes surface cooling as evidenced by the fact that the wet lapse rate is significantly less than the dry lapse rate in the troposphere. If adding CO2 to the atmosphere really caused surface warming then one would expect that the increase in CO2 over the past 30 years would have caused at least a measurable increase in the dry lapse rate in the troposphere but that has not happened. The AGW hypotheses is nothing but a false conjecture.

PS – flagged this as abuse on US Amazon site but Amazon doesn’t have comment box for abuse reports:

” It is put out by people who know very well they are lying, but are doing so for political purposes. ”

To my mind it is libel:

https://study.com/learn/lesson/what-is-libel.html

//
What Is Libel? The definition of libel is a defamatory statement that is published in written words, drawings, cartoons, or physical representation. Legally, libel is a tort, or civil wrong, although in some states it is also viewed as a crime. Those who feel they have been harmed by another can address that harm by filing a civil lawsuit against the individual who published the false statement.
Libel law varies by state, but to prove a statement is libel, one must generally convince the court that:

  • A false statement was made and published
  • That statement caused damage to one’s reputation or had the potential to cause damage
  • The statement is not exempt or privileged (for example if the statement was used at a trial or during an employment reference)

It is put out by people who know very well they are lying, …

Logically, it is possible to show that the reviewer is probably lying because what he claims is impossible to know. That is, the reviewer cannot know what another knows or thinks. To claim that he knows what is impossible to know demonstrates that he is lying, or mentally incompetent. He could then, alternatively, plead insanity.

Regarding Amazon shadow banning books, there was an admission today by Amazon executives that they were lamenting a book about a book where a kid was identifying as a walrus, that escaped through their algorithms for a week or two before they caught it. So they now admit using algorithms to censor books. Not that we didn’t already know that.

Because the book (Johnny the Walrus by Matt Walsh) innocently had a kid identifying as a walrus instead of some transgender subject material. Dirty rotten shame what’s happening, but hopefully with Elon Musk buying Twitter, we can at least get back to people making up their own mind about subject matter. Good luck with sales, and I might buy a few for my local schools and get them inserted into the local school libraries. Many schools are happy to have extra books to place because of budget cut backs. Sometimes, the librarians are the ones to want to see several sides to every issue.

Dear Anthony,

thank you for making this available!
It is a nice little book, but of course everyone is a critic! 🙂
I had a quick look and found a few points you might consider working on ..
Or ignore my critique and see the positive, most of your book I found nothing to crique on 😉
In fact it is a well balanced between raising awareness of a topic and the complexity of the issue and a very nice read!

-It is my view that CMIP5 and any older model was discredited by that fact that CMIP6 models show significant different feedback values after improving the local cloud parametrisation. No only should any critique of the consensus point out that older models are thus shown completely useless and any prediciton based on them unreliable, you should also not use them yourself!
I would like to see a further discussion of R. McKitrick´s paper from last year as well, when climate feedbacks are discussed and your online chapter shows a neat little figure missing in the book with differences between models and measurements.

-The behavior of maintstream towards sceptics is not mentioned, but in important aspect. I looked up some random thought about skepticism:
“Scepticism is the first step towards truth.”
― Denis Diderot, Pensées philosophiques
“Nevertheless, (Jefferson) believed that the habit of skepticism is an essential prerequisite for responsible citizenship. He argued that the cost of education is trivial compared to the cost of ignorance, of leaving government to the wolves. He taught that the country is safe only when the people rule.”
― Carl Sagan, The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark

“Do you consider your position so weak that it cannot withstand debate?”
― Data

(inspired by a recent post somewhere Quoting Huxley with “Skepticism is the highest duty and blind faith the one unpardonable sin.”.. maybe Steele´s recent video??)

-I found the chapter about Ocean Acidification lacking. How to call a reduction in pH from 8.1 to 8 is not only completely irrelevant for the debate, but also my guess is that if you would ask a lot of Chemists (who have the monopoly on pH!) plenty of them would a) agree that “acidification” is indeed the right word for it and strongly disagree that the change by 0.1 should be described with the word “merely”.
Taking this linguistic aspect away, what remains in your article? More CO2 is beneficial even in oceans? Dungeness crabs might disagree with you on that.

It is measured as a surface effect and thus named incorrectly, as there is no data available for the Oceans in general about their pH changes, even so you can follow isotope signatures.
The real issue is that many species are either spread over a wide pH range naturally or encounter a wide range of pH, as the pH changes with temperature, latitude, depth, daytime, along migration paths and seasons. A trout for example naturally lives in a pH ranges between 4 to 9.
For this chapter I would highly recommend a rewrite!

-The cost of questionable measures. Here I found Moore´s “planet of humans” eye opening. Actually, the first half of his movie about the real cost of some alternative energies seems be a bit outdated, but his chapter about burning biomass instead of fossil fuel is nothing but scary!
In general there should be plenty of examples how half measures or over zealousness do more damage than good. For example the struggle of the Canary islands, which unique in the fact that they have lots of cheap land and are backed by EU funding. They seem to be far behind any schedule and experience that a little bit of a new technology is a good thing, too much of it can get very expensive.

You are entitled to your personal opinion, but I disagree. Are you speaking for chemists based on a poll of them? If not, then how about just saying it is your unsupported personal opinion?

Amazon Australia says it is out of stock and I can’t order it yet. I will order some when it becomes available.
I have downloaded the pdf from the Heartland site – will read that copy and make a review on Amazon.
If it does not become available I will donate to your website in any case – I understand that this does not boost the Amazon sales figures but it does recompense you for some of the value.

Looking forward to giving copies to my uneducated friends and family (that have university degrees :-).

Ordered, received, and added a positive review labeled “Just the Facts”. Excellent work. I can only hope that as more information appears countering the insane claims of imminent disaster, and the false claims of scientific attribution as regards everything from asthma to forest fires our leaders both political and journalistic will begin to ask questions instead of parroting climate catastrophe claims.

My copy arrives tomorrow

Incidentally, there appears to be 2 reviews on Amazon which are bordering on libellous

They should limit reviews to those who have actually purchased the book.

That is AFAIK the standard procedure.

They appear to be forged from the same template. I wouldn’t be surprised if they employ standardised responses for such reviews.

Ordered mine
5 reviews online. 4 good, one personal attack

“Barton Paul Levinson, who hangs out at RealClimate has posted an Amazon review that is in my opinion, libelous.”

Well he is a science FICTION writer after all . . .

Can the book be purchased WITHOUT going through amazon?

I would like to buy one, but I will not do business with Amazon. Is there another option?

From where?

Not really a book – more like a pamphlet. But, it ranks right up there with “Common Sense” as an interpretation of man’s rights and responsibilities to throw off the yoke of totalitarianism that has crept into our daily lives. Common sense is needed today as much as it was in 1776! So this anthropomorphic climate B.S. needs to be swept off the planet along with those beastly and ghastly windmills. 🙂

Why is the Kindle version $36 ?? !!!

That is what the AGW disciples do. Rather than discuss the issues they just call you names.

Haters gonna hate. The second, hate-filled, lying “review” is by “RMB”, and goes as follows: “Pseudoscience disinformation by the fossil-fuel funded shill Heartland and WUWT Reviewed in the United States on April 25, 2022 Collection of science-denying memes and opinions authored by laypersons who have no successful scientific publications. Watts has an HS diploma and zero tertiary education or experience in the field. Amazon should sell the book with a warning label and put it in the science fiction category.”
The standard attack methods are used of Ad Hominem, smear, and Argument from Authority. Pitiful.

Excellent, well-documented, rebuttal to all the false or misleading claims constantly parroted by the left, the mainstream media and tech oligarchs. Distribute as many copies as possible. Every school should have one.

The Levenson review seems to have been removed from the listing. However, there is a new critical review from “Cameron”. It appears that he clubbed together with his mates to fund an actual purchase (but will he return it for a refund?). Same kind of rhetoric of course.

I looked on the Amazon website today, and it is now #6 in climatology. BTW, I ordered my copy a few days ago.

The disgrace of fanatics like Levenson is that they never put forward rational arguments against well-researched scientific evidence which questions their own, often imagined twisted viewpoint. Shout them down like a loud mouthed bully is their only answer to a different viewpoint to theirs. They should never be allowed to represent official organisations which they bring into disrepute through their arrogant attitude towards decent argument.

If this disputes all the LIES by the WOKE fraternity then I shall have to read it. Hopefully it IS based on science rather than dreams and lies. I am sick and tired of being told HOW HOT THE EARTH IS GETTING without even a smidgen of PROOF. SHUT THE F…CK UP !!!

Just got my copy and started reading it. It is very easy to read and understand. I think that this would be an excellent book for students even in grade school.

Now how to get it into the schools as part of the curriculum.

I ordered five copies on Amazon UK, on April 25th, for distribution to family and friends. My order is still ‘not yet dispatched’. I hope that means ‘sold out’, and not ‘we refuse to sell this book because it is by the baddies’.

Thank you Anthony for all your efforts!

Would be good to get an online version out also, I have been waiting for some such factsheet with which to engage the well meaning but misled liberated middle classes picketing Barclays Bank in Cornmarket Oxford. Their argument was ‘90% of scientists agree with us’ and some recent report confirms impending cataclysm. I used the point about satellite photography finding no planet warming for over 7 years….surprisingly they had not heard that.
