Friday Funny: NetZero Science

There’s nothing better than climate science with a confirmation bias attached, and a computer model predicting doom in 2100. Powered by coal of course. Our resident cartoonist, Josh, has the NetZero Science to MSM to Politics to Poverty Causality Loop down pat.

It seems to be a zero sum game.

Yep, but they always give it away.

“Questionable data will necessarily lead to a questionable assessment. Nevertheless, the results of the base case and sensitivity trials all seem to suggest that the stock is overfished relative to the proposed FMP (Figure 29). Therefore, I must conclude, albeit with relatively high uncertainty, that the Gulf of Mexico red drum stock is currently over-fished ….” From Porch, C. E. 1999. Status of the red drum stocks of the Gulf of Mexico. Southeast Fish. Sci. Center. Sustainable Fish. Div. Contr. SFD-99/00-8. 67pp.

Btw., have they already started blaming Putin’s war on climate change?

If so, there’d be a grain of truth to it. Without “climate action” maximising Europe’s dependence on russian gas, while paying ~300 Bio Dollars to the Kremlin every year, he could not afforded to go to war.

Of course climate politics are the problem, not climate change. But such pedantic differences will likely be ignored..

Worse. I heard Dances-With-Unicorns (Canada’s PM) saying the Russian invasion proves that we have to end our dependence on fossil fuels.

Looks like Josh (panel 5) has got Net Zero figured out: the amount of money left in your bank account after paying exorbitant fees for green energy.

EXACTLY! Every year it seems that it gets closer to ‘either them or us’ and it is high time before things get worse, and they are getting worse fast.

  1. Build computer models. 2. Tune models to show imminent existential catastrophe because of (fill in the blank). 3. Force people to do whatever you want in the guise of averting said catastrophe. 4. Repeat ad infinitum.

Canada’s climate models are really bad. The other day Environment Canada’s forecast for 1 hour into the future, where I live, was running more than 10 degrees (C) too hot! And not for the first time either. If the error bar for a 1-hour forecast is +/- 10 C, what is the error bar for a 100 year forecast?

Net Zero is nothing but neo Feudalism. Us peons are just supposed to listen to our betters, only instead of it being because God said so it’s because we need to save the planet.

The trouble is the peons aren’t nearly as dumb as the elites think they are … and the elites aren’t nearly as smart as they think they are. Sooner or later the peons notice they’re getting the short end of the stick. Then you get President Trump. The Democrats learned nothing so we may get Trump (or perhaps someone who actually is bad) again.

We had the Ukrainian Orange Revolution and the 2014 Revolution and somehow the Ukraine ended up with a popular government. Putin wanted a puppet so that didn’t suit him at all so he invaded.

What Putin found is the Ukrainian people who support their government and are willing to fight tooth and nail to protect their country.

Never under estimate the peons.

This is true, you’d have thought that they would have remembered both the American Revolution and the French Revolution. But, it is the same mentality, “I’m better and nothing bad can happen to me because I’m better and why won’t these…peasants listen to me?”

I basically agree.

Except the elites are too selfish to believe us peons could ever understand their complex (to them) plans and wonderful desires.

They are classic self centered elitists.
Absolute unapologetic ‘narcissistic personality disorders‘ and completely self centered egotists. They fully believe that the role of ordinary people is to fully abjectly serve them.

I recall reading the operational tactic of the medical quack.
Claim deep knowledge; have potion; be mysterious.

Outcome and oracular pronouncement
The illness gets worse → You didn’t call in time.
The illness is unchanged → You called just in time.
The illness disappears → My powers have prevailed.

Consensus climatology is science quackery
Climate science; Climate model; Trust us

Outcome and oracular pronouncement
No one cares → It’s worse than we thought.
Modest warming → It’s worse than we thought.
Modest cooling → It’s worse than we thought.

Very well put. In magic tricks, this is called the “magician’s force”. An example is when a magician sets up a trick where the audience member is able to successively choose between two or more stacks of cards which contain the target card. By manipulating what a “right” answer results in, the magician can force the victim to “select” the target card every time without even touching the cards.

They really are desperate now with Putin disrupting the deal flow and the known issue of short, medium and long run temperature cycles turning against them. Message management was much easier before.

It seems like such a cynical mechanism. They inspire young people with these cries of inequity and the ruin of the planet itself if they don’t take action.

Yet the action is the same as it is with any unelected power structure – it depletes the middle classes by creating artificial winners. In this case, those who own the subsidized companies.

That in turn creates even more of the inequity and destablizes the world in other ways.

For decades, they’ve talked about this Green stuff like it’s a form of Pascal’s Wager. If there’s even a tiny chance the doom and gloom is correct, then it’s in our interest to stop burning fossil fuels.

From there, unelected “scientists” abandoned use of tools like confidence intervals and began proclaiming six sigma outcomes as “likely” outcomes. High school science teachers started scaring the crap out of our children, and here we are.

We sometimes ask about the cost of Pascal’s Wager. He argues the cost was minimal and the benefits potentially so great. But what is the real cost?

I suspect that the real cost has only begun to reveal itself. Artificially making a despot like Putin powerful enough to invade his neighbors.

The 40 million people of Ukraine are the first to pay the true price of this wager. The next will be the impoverished people of northern Europe who won’t be able to afford to heat their homes next winter.

All while failed politicians like Michael Mann and Al Gore count their money, secure and warm and deified by the children who have yet to suffer from the inevitable outcome of their beliefs.

I ask you who invented the net zero plan? Does it negatively affect China? No. Does it negatively affect India? No. Does it negatively affect Russia? No. A reasonable person would suspect that net zero is a weapon that is being used against the West. Who are the people wielding this tool? Humm let me think, could it be the Marxists hidden in plain sight?
