Leonardo DiCaprio warns: ‘We literally have a nine year window’ to stop climate change – ‘There’s a ticking clock’

From Climate Depot

DiCaprio: “I have a foundation for 20 years. I have to go to Glasgow. I got to see world leaders make some pretty big commitments, but just like in this movie, there’s a ticking clock. I think there is a global sense of anxiety that the powers that be, the private sector, the governments, are not making the transition fast enough. We literally have a nine year window.” … “Our governments, the governments of the world, must work together as a community species and we must evolve as a species to address this problem.”

Flashback: Earth ‘serially doomed’: The official history of climate ‘Tipping Points’ began in 1864 – A new ‘global warming’ 12-year deadline from Rep. Ocasio-Cortez

Excerpt:

In an interview with dead line, DiCaprio spoke about his career as an actor and environmental activist, since many already know that one of his great concerns is the future of the planet, as he announced in his Oscar acceptance speech in 2016, after winning in the category Best Actor for Revenant.

DiCaprio: “I have had two great passions in my life. That has been taking action, and protecting the natural world and spreading the message about the climate crisis. I have a foundation for 20 years. I have to go to Glasgow. I got to see world leaders make some pretty big commitments, but just like in this movie, there’s a ticking clock. I think there is a global sense of anxiety that the powers that be, the private sector, the governments, are not making the transition fast enough. We literally have a nine year window.”

“And there was also, you know, a period of time where people and consumers were forced to recycle and buy hybrid cars and make changes in their own lives, which is incredibly important. But when you really start to break this down, there are 100 companies that produce 70 percent of the world’s emissions. There are massive industries that are polluting our atmosphere, and the private sector needs to step up. Our governments, the governments of the world, must work together as a community species and we must evolve as a species to address this problem.”

Earth ‘serially doomed’: The official history of climate ‘Tipping Points’ began in 1864 – A new ‘global warming’ 12-year deadline from Rep. Ocasio-Cortez

Climate Tipping Points date back to at least 1864

“As early as 1864 George Perkins Marsh, sometimes said to be the father of American ecology, warned that the earth was ‘fast becoming an unfit home for its “noblest inhabitant,”’ and that unless men changed their ways it would be reduced ‘to such a condition of impoverished productiveness, of shattered surface, of climatic excess, as to threaten the depravation, barbarism, and perhaps even extinction of the species.’” —MIT professor Leo Marx

Earth “Serially Doomed”
Perhaps the best summary of the tipping-point phenomenon comes from UK scientist Philip Stott. “In essence, the Earth has been given a 10-year survival warning regularly for the last fifty or so years. We have been serially doomed,” Stott explained. “Our post-modern period of climate change angst can probably be traced back to the late-1960s, if not earlier. By 1973, and the ‘global cooling’ scare, it was in full swing, with predictions of the imminent collapse of the world within ten to twenty years, exacerbated by the impacts of a nuclear winter.”

Says something about DiCaprio when filming the Revenant, he makes a comment about Alberta’s dramatic change in temperature in a 24 hr period is due to climate change. And still repeats the comment again and again even after he was informed the ‘dramatic’ change in temperature has been happening in Alberta for centuries. Very amusing but I have a question about the first entry on that site.
How can 80% of a species be extinct?

I do not think that word means what they think it means.

Reply to  Martin
January 20, 2022 9:10 am

Consider that 99.999% of all species which have inhabited the earth have gone extinct. Any one species only exists for a maximum of around a million years.

When a species goes extinct, its rarely the massive kill-off of a meteor event. Its typically clam species A was suffering parasitism from some nematode species X, however within clam species A a more successful variant, member became subspecies Awhich was resistant to nematode. Subspecies A had a reproduction efficacy of 1.001, where as species A had a reproduction efficacy of 0.99 Thus over several thousand years, species A went extinct, subspecies Abecame the dominant species of clam in that environment. Of course one member of the species nematode X evolved to be a more successful parasite X, and so on and so on for about 541 million years.

But every damn plant and animal which has ever lived is playing this same game. You, Me, the ostriches and oysters and every creeping thing which creepeth across the earth, swims in the seas, or slithers through the mud.

We all live our lives, and perish. We all have a slightly different genetics from our parents. Sometimes our genetics provides a slight, very slight advantage that causes us to wean slightly more successful offspring—than average—more successful offspring which carry that genetic trait. Those offspring become more successful than their peers. The more successful offspring eventually replace the less successful peers. Over hundreds of thousands of years, those more successful offspring have evolved to a degree which they can be deemed a separate species from the original root stock. The old less successful species are no longer to be found, they are considered extinct.

Was it some cruel catastrophic event? No, they quietly failed to reproduce viable offspring and were replaced by a more successful species.

I have been following this nonsense for decades and am finally approaching the age at which I might not live long enough, even 9 years, to observe another catastrophic doomsday prediction bite the climate dust.

At least deCrapio has given me an attainable goal. Although, everybody already knows that at some point in the next 8 years he will proclaim a near certain future date for the apocalypse that will push this particular prediction out another decade. The Ministry of Truth (Media) will run cover and bury the failure of todays predication.

Leonardo DiCaprio, educated exclusively in acting schools and private schools, no college experience and no degrees, has figured out the planet Earth has only nine (9) years to tumble over an unstoppable tipping point? And he’s willing to fly all over the planet in his personal jet to spread the word? And his acting has evolved into environmental documentaries (disguised as regular entertainment movies) and he, despite the lack of higher education, has figured out the math for a total green conversion to renewables, and how to store the energy and not chop up/burn up our flying friends in the process. Looks like he might be type-cast in the next Superman movie.

Exactly what entertainment industry booking agents are hoping by recommending the “stars” involve themselves in causes of some type….some speaking engagements, something to put them on casting directors lists, some name brand recognition….so “save the XXX” where XXX is ecology, seals, whales, water, birds, forests, minks and so on….media mention without the payola is actually the goal.
When you see mentions of the same has-been actor on your news feed for a few days running, that is the result of payola by agents to the “star maker machine”. Its fairly expensive to slip those media influencers some bucks…but noble cause recognition like DiCapprio enjoys is free advertising.

A change in tactics by the advocacy community, to move the entire process up to the large company level. Through the use of ESG and so-called scope 3 emissions, the pressure is on Exxon-Mobil to take responsibility for my decision as to what car to operate, and my choice of form of transport to get a litre of milk.

If successful, this will result in the entire process taken out of the hands of the ‘little people’, who make market decisions and voting decisions. The financial elite (yes, I am looking at you, Mark Carney) will choose the path for our society.

So at a guess the original release of his film bombed, presumably due to C19,
(Should that be ‘crashed and burned’ or strictly, as per what meteors do : Burn and Crash?)

Thus; is the man stirring up publicity for himself and his film in advance of a re-release?

Some of us, with what would a deliberately misconstrued/misunderstood misanthropic streak some miles wide inside us, would truly love to see a few real and sizeable rocks rain down – esp if they could somehow be aimed or persuaded to hit any of The Large Deserts.

Yes maybe a bit messy and dirty but what’s your problem with that?
Conventional ploughs as used in agriculture, farming and tillage are messy dirty things but everyone lauds the advantages of what they do. i.e. Grow Food
Original thinkers and real scientists recognise that the dust raised by ploughs & tillage is causing the observed Global Greening.

So it would be with the large meteors, they’d ‘plough’ the deserts, stirring up a shed-load of fresh new dirt/soil for plants to ‘eat’ and thus get the deserts green and growing again.
They’d have nice weather too.
Some number of well-placed volcanoes would yield the same result = nice weather and lots of munchies

The world’s major deserts are not man made. It is lack of rainfall primarily due to the latitude of the area. The Sahara for instance was once green and likely will be green again one day when a long term cycle of the earth’s orbit changes to bring rain.

The deserts of southern California were made to bloom when water from the Colorado river was brought in.
I’ve never seen a “desert” that didn’t bloom after a rainfall.

I planted trees on my desert property outside of Las Vegas. Watered them with water that came from the Colorado river. They grew tall and robust. I’ve told Peta this, but he still (fecklessly) promotes his wacky theory that nutrient-free dirt causes deserts which cause climate change. He has been schooled on this time and time again, yet he routinely beclowns himself.

I would like to thank Leonardo di Caprio for his contribution to the wellbeing of the planet. With his resources, he is able to fly frequently by private jet, thus producing far more CO2 than most other people could even dream of. The results are impressive and well documented: increased greening of the planet, record high global food production, decreased excess winter deaths, decreased energy needs for winter heating, and many other benefits. I feel that it would be very helpful if L di C could generate more publicity for his massive public-spirited ‘carbon footprint’ and encourage others to follow suit to the best of their ability. Even those of us without access to private jets can contribute something, and together we can make a real improvement to the planet.

UN Agenda for 2030. This is why.

Think about it. If we really had a 9 year window to stop a world-shattering catastrophe, would you waste your time with UN Sustainable Development Goals about social justice? Nope. It’s all a scam. You’d focus only on the emergency, not on the 16 (yes) goals.

In September 2015, countries adopted a set of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all.

I call bullshit on the emergency. Tackling “no poverty” and “zero hunger”, mmm, what little ambitious goals right there. Just only something that wasn’t ever realized in the history of the world, but this time, globally. All when we have a supposed critical emergency that will end all life on the planet.

Let’s see…

In 9 years, both the PDO and AMO will have been in their respective 30-year ocean cool cycles for a number of years, so it’s highly likely a 30+ year cooling trend will have emerged, and observed global anomalies will be 5+ standard deviations below CMIP 6 climate model mean projections…

My family found the latest de Caprio movie to be quite entertaining as a parody of current events. Faced with what might be a serious threat to civilization, you can trust the politicians to be as effective as they have been in “solving” the COVID and CAGW “crises”. And the “science experts” with their “mining robots” were every bit as successful as the bird choppers and sun catchers on the one hand and the masks and jabs on the other. By the end of the movie, the audience should be convinced that we really deserve what’s coming.

Leo’s problem was typical in Hollywood.

He got very rich and famous at a very young age, and was quickly seduced by the typical Hollywood out-of-control spoiled brat thing. (It gets so bad, that his party boy “p***y posse” image even becomes a running gag in Doonesbury) While he thinks he’s cool and it might appeal to his adolescent fan base, it’s shallow and cringe worthy to any adult.

Then one day he wakes up and realizes that the p***y posse image is incredibly shallow and silly, and can’t go on forever. If he want’s to have any viable future in Hollywood and be taken seriously as an actor and adult, he’s gotta do something to erase, or at least overshadow this.

So he figures out (or is coached by someone smarter) that he needs a “cause” so he can look “deep”, “intellectual”, and “concerned” like he thinks real adults are. (Or such as they are in superficial Hollywood) Since he’s in the “popularity” business, whatever cause he picks has to be Progressive, since Progressive causes are superficially popular, easy, and demand little in terms of intellect, personal responsibility or personal sacrifice, which he has little taste for or concept of.

Typical Hollywood cause favorites over the last 40 years or so like no nukes, the homeless, family farmers, war, or starving women and children in Africa have been done to death. Besides, homeless people are smelly and scary, and the party scene in Africa really sucks. But by the late ’90s, “global warming” is fresh and big. And it allows people with absolutely zero intellectual or moral credibility to garner instant superiority as long as you buy plenty of the newly invented “carbon credits” to green-wash your conspicuous consumption lifestyle sins away.

So he makes friends with a pliant Al Gore who will hang with anyone cooler than he is, which is pretty much anybody. He uses some of his money and Hollywood clout to make a bunch of eco-propaganda films that are critically acclaimed but nobody ever actually sits through. He gets to be taken seriously in Hollywood and gets to continue with his 1%er party lifestyle, which includes owning private islands & resorts at far away places and private jets to and from and an endless parade of young women entertained on superyachts while admonishing the rest of American for owning SUVs. Win-win. Except now, he’s now a serious “adult” and no longer has to feel guilty about being an entitled spoiled rich celebrity.

DeCaprio is a prime example of elite wokeism. They know what is best for the rest of us and because they have LOTS of money to give themselves a soap box to stand on, they constantly tell us what we have to do. What they do is immaterial, because they are the “deciderers” (compliments of George W. Bush). It is the ultimate of do what I say, not as I do. Don’t pay attention to the yacht or private jet that I travel around in (Al the “Bore” Gore is famous for that). Just pay attention to the artificial story line I’ve given you to march through the streets with. And in the meantime, they are making money hand over fist!

They always give themselves enough of a time frame for people to fuss over and by the time the dreaded end of the world date passes, they jinn up another 9 or 10 years to noisily kick the can down the road with and show just how woke and virtue signaling they are.

NOT!

I wish people had an attention span longer than a rabbit of five minutes to really see what is going on. Meanwhile the sheep meander and loudly bleat with each new danger that they’ve been spoon fed to fuss about.

So, if you have a foundation and made a movie, you suddenly become expert on climate?
On “CO2”, its not the problem, plants inhale “CO2”, exhale oxygen (we need this stuff). I pump tons of “CO2” into my green houses to make those tomatoes (and other foods) you like to eat from the grocery store. Enjoy your veggies and find a real savior if you need one.

For once I’d like to hear from one of these silly goons exactly what action they imagine being specifically done by government and private businesses that would then avert the 9 year calamity. Or truly do anything at all about climate, weather, fires or floods.

“Addressing” or “fighting” climate change is a fools errand if there is no plan of action that adds up to impacting.

So what if you address or fight? If your action (crusade) doesn’t alter anything it doesn’t count as doing anything about the climate at all. No matter how lofty the intention or desire.

DiCaprio’s call for action is stale stuff. Devoid of anything meaningful while pretending to be filling the fantasy of doing nothing is not an option.

As with anything, having some policy or program that is supposed to promote or encourage other behaviors has no value if there is no altered behavior attained.

If any action can be shown to be useless then doing nothing is certainly an option.

Ya don’t just do stuff cuz it makes you feel like you did something.
