Guest essay by Eric Worrall
The UK Met struggles to get tomorrow’s weather right, and their “warmer than normal” winter seasonal forecasts are an open joke, but they can definitely tell us the form of government our children will experience by the end of the 21st century.
The Met Office warns of armed militias roaming a UK ravaged by climate change in doomsday report (but maybe they should get this week’s weather right first!)
- The Government-funded UK Climate Resilience Progamme issued the report
- Researchers considered what would happen in the event of climate change
- The report predicts the collapse of law and order in the event of catastrophe

It is a bleak forecast even by the Met Office’s standards – the complete collapse of society leaving armed militias and criminal gangs to roam the land unchallenged.
That is one of the doomsday scenarios set out in a report commissioned by the UK’s weather service to model the potential consequences of climate change.
The extraordinary report, called Shared Socio-economic Pathways and developed for the Government-funded UK Climate Resilience Programme, sets out supposedly ‘plausible futures’ as a result of global warming.
One of those scenarios described by the authors is a surge in ‘Right-wing populism’, resulting in the collapse of ‘political and governance systems’. After that ‘a tipping point is reached when the police and justice system (as known in the past) cease to exist’. Due to ‘past investments in military and defence… without an effective central government, different military groups (militias, criminal groups, etc) rise to de facto power’.
Under a different scenario in the report, a ‘rich elite’ imposes conscription. ‘Society is more divided than ever,’ the report suggests, ‘with the majority of the population having low incomes and poor health, contrasting with a rich ruling elite. Social unrest increases and the prison population skyrockets. To keep the general population in line, governments introduce military conscription by the end of the century.’
…
My first thought was, both scenarios sound like life in today’s London. But maybe the people who write such reports have never venture outside of their safe spaces.
Or the population gets tired of freezing in the dark, and stages an uprising. The current British political system looks broken from the reporting I have read in Texas, and some sort of irregular political change seems credible.
The police try, but they’re kindof overstretched, so people have to take care of their own problems. 20 years ago it was funny, one time walking from Southwark to Waterloo through a dark alley, three East European guys got up, clocked how big I was, then sat down again. But now I’m too old for that kind of entertainment.
Wrong Mel Gibson movie I think. When the energy system collapses more Mad Max than Braveheart.
That was my first idea, but Braveheart has more of a British connection, and there’s a bit of a secondary message in the Braveheart image.
True, Maybe save Max for the OZ grid collapse.😄
Despite our outback tough image most of us in Oz live in cities. A higher percentage than most other countries I believe. So when the grid collapses I don’t think most of us could achieve Mad Max status.
Well the natives turning blue seems about right. Brave heart cold feet is about right….
More Braveheart I think, Eric
The Scots are already getting restless, they are over-represented in the British Army and they have most of the wind, access to North Sea oil, and ample supplies of woad.
The English should start rebuilding Hadrian’s Wall.
The Greens should have a rough time in Scotland when the Scots realise that there will be a ban on Haggis or worse some vegetarian alternative.
Goodness, now I’m imagining the marketing for Tufuggis and Plantaggis. And, of course, feel bad for the taste-testers.
Eat the vegetarians. Kill two birds with one stone. Perhaps literally.
The Scots are over-represented in the Army? Any evidence for that? And I’ll bet that their representation declines as you go from the ranks up to senior officers.
Okay, but what happens when the gas pumps don’t run because electricity has shut itself off because of lack of maintenance? And who is going to stock store shelves with canned food and boxed stuff?
Except we will have been asked to give up all our technology, and won’t have fuel for the cobbled together old trucks and whatnot. Be lucky to have steel to make swords.
The Scottish Mad Max film equivalent is called Doomsday. Released in 2008. It tells of a deadly virus outbreak and Scotland is walled off/quarantine until a cure is required to be found.
Good fun, but not a patch on other similar movie.
Similar experience, in Seattle, and Detroit. I’m older. But at least for now, citizens can still own weapons for personal protection. Used to be that just clicking open a Spyderco would heal the dogs. different times now. Especially with neutered police in Seattle.
Mad Max indeed. Hoarding petrol for the EV days.
San Francisco, NYC, Washington DC are catching up rapidly.
Pretty much any city that has been run by Democrats for decades.
Mark, you saying it is time to start up the ‘Snake Plissken Realty Service’ franchise’s?
Torn
Well we read that Texas is on the verge of insurrection. This scenario is nonsense and neither Texas or Britain is broken. Mind you, I can’t say the same about California whose inhabitants seem candidates for the Mad Hatters Tea Party
Should England return to a heptarchy (with two of seven kingdoms Islamic), and Scotland, Wales and Cornwall return to separate kingdom, principality and duchy, it won’t be because of climate change.
Me, proud to be a Wessex boy.

You might enjoy the classic SF story about an independent Wessex by author Christopher Priest ‘A dream of Wessex’, if you can find it…
… more SF than electricity supply without nuclear and/or fossil fuels????
Ah, another Frank Turner fan like myself!
Ta!
As you know, if there ever were a true heptarchy, it wasn’t for long. The usual list is the Angle kingdoms of Northumbria, Mercia and East Anglia; Saxon kingdoms of Essex, Sussex and Wessex, and Jutish Kent (also the Isle of Wight). Frisians were surrounded by Angles on the Wash or thereabouts, IIRC There were many petty kingdoms before these larger polities coalesced..
London (Middlesex) lay on the frontiers of Essex, Wessex and Mercia; Oxford on Wessex and Mercia. So they were fought over and changed hands. Mercia briefly controlled Sussex, but it ultimately fell to Wessex.
Then came the Danish Great Heathen Army.
Having been born on the Isle of Wight then living in Surrey (until escaping to Oz when 10), where is my compensation for all the ills my ancestors suffered through?
I’m pretty sure most of them were serfs under the control of various ‘Kings’, making them slaves to the autocracy.
/sarc
Clearly, you are owed reparations!
Your Celtic ancestors were oppressed by Romans, then Jutish invaders, so Italy and Germany/Denmark owe you big time.
Alfred the Great’s grandson Aethelstan was the first King of Wessex to extend his rule over all of England, when he captured York from the Danes in 927. But after his death in 939, he brother lost it to a Norse ruler.
Something like a heptarchy coalesced from many smaller polities in the 7th and 8th centuries, such that by AD 800, as Norse raids were beginning, the four main Anglo-Saxon kingdoms of Northumbria (with two sub-kingdoms), Mercia, East Anglia and Wessex were joined by minor kingdoms Essex, Sussex and Kent.
Wessex annexed Sussex in 827. Kent came under domination by Wessex late in the 9th century in response to repeated Norse raids.
Scotland will return to at least two of its four kingdoms.
Scotland descends from Dalriada, a kingdom in the SW created by invading, Gaelic-speaking Scotti from Ireland; Pictland, whose people spoke a Brythonic language relate to that of southern Britain, but apparently distinct; Strathclyde, where a southern dialect was spoken, akin to Cumbric, Welsh and Cornish, and Lothian, which belonged to Northumbria, so home to Old English speakers. Modern Scots is derived from the Northumbrian dialect.
Then came the Norwegian Norse, who occupied the north and the Outer Hebrides, where later ruled the Lords of the Isles.
You’re right that it could split up again, with perhaps two Lowland states and two Highland and Island.
Defund the climate police!!
Was not long ago after so many missed forecaste, on one of their particular bad nights I called up the local tv weather dud and told him to go look out a window. Think his response was, I do not have one…
Tell the social forcasters to go for a ride on the subway….
Can’t decide if “weather dud” was a typo for “weather dude” or not. 😜
I was flying in my airplane near Paso Robles Ca one day and the Flight Service Station was broadcasting an automated message. !0,000 overcast etc. It was severe clear. They should have looked out the window.
Indignation of the common people has always, and will always be, the motor of history. The accumulation of bigots in power today does not bode well for their future
The origins of modern democracy go back to compulsory archery practice and military service in medieval England. link
Switzerland still has conscription. It’s great for social cohesion and democracy. And that’s in the face of the fact that it has four official languages.
I sometimes wonder if a well regulated militia is necessary for long term democracy.
The Founding Fathers thought so. I have felt for some time that the ridiculous suggestions for “common sense” gun control laws was little more than a subterfuge for disarming the populace so that it would be impossible to resist tyranny.
I’m sure that King Louis XVI thought that until the Bastille was stormed.
Nothing to do with guns. The problem is the law and social stuff. In the UK if you are attacked by a bunch of preteen girls and eliminate some of them, you will be charged and go to prison.
Strict gun laws in the US are having the same effect that Prohibition brought about in the 1920s – because something is officially restricted, suddenly it’s in popular demand more than rationality can account for.
Thomas Jefferson: Let every man be armed.
‘Nuff said.
US could not have won without its militia, often armed with rifles.
which is where we get our V for victory sign (but reversed, which basically means eff off)
During the middle ages wars against France, every bowman would give the V sign to their opponents to show they had their two bowfingers. If they were captured it was common practice for those fingers to be severed to stop them firing longbows.
Yep, the Brits have fond memories of medieval behavior. Ever been to a medieval jousting reenactment on, dare I say it, a warm summer’s day? What a great way to enact population reduction by enlisting young otherwise dangerous men and boys and promising them travel to faraway lands where they could meet interesting, exotic people – and kill them ….
….. and go to heaven.
Here we go again.
In Switzerland nearly every is armed and part of the army.
In Switzerland every household with an adult male has an automatic rifle. Murder rate low.
Honduras has strict gun control. Murder rate highest in the world.
Semi-automatic.
No, fully automatic.
Swiss Army has had full auto assault rifles for generations.
But also semiauto pistols:
https://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-21379912#:~:text=All%20healthy%20Swiss%20men%20aged,supposed%20to%20keep%20at%20home.
For 70 years, the world’s infantry have been predominantly armed with assault rifles, not just semiautomatics like M1 Garand and SKS. Chinese versions of the latter do however go FA alarmingly often when you don’t want them to.
Here’s the standard Swiss assault rifle since 1990, replacing earlier full auto rifles, now in reservists’ homes:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIG_SG_550#:~:text=The%20SG%20550%20is%20an,45mm%20NATO%20SIG%20SG%20540.
Cyclic rate 700 rpm, ie a hand-held machine gun.
Swiss Army has been armed with full auto assault rifles since 1957, so every reservist today has a fully automatic rifle in his house:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIG_SG_510
This full auto assault rifle replaced the excellent, straight pull, bolt action K31.
So three generagtions of Swiss men with FA rifles in their houses.
It would have been so easy to check. Why didn’t you? Why do people without any relevant knowledge or experience feel qualified to comment out of total ignorance?
A 1957 conscript would be 83 now.
Switzerland went straight from bolt action to full auto, skipping the semiauto stage.
By contrast, the US Army adopted 7.62mm M14 in 1954, but then later switched to 5.56mm M16.
G’Day John,
“Chinese versions of the latter do however go FA alarmingly often…”
The SKS rifle doesn’t have a retracting spring on the firing pin. If dirt/crud jams the pin forward – ‘slam’ fire – full auto. Not exactly healthy.
There is an outfit in the US producing and selling retro-fit springs to prevent this from happening. (Just who and where – I don’t have in front of me.)
Some users like the FA feature.
Strangely enough, most of the yew wood for longbows was imported from Italy.
Village swains would have preffered to play football, but the king demanded archery practice on the green, starting from age seven. The regime also preferred plowmen to shepherds, in order to build muscle.
If you draw powerful bows from childhood, you actually get deformed, in that a bone which should fuse with the clavicle doesn’t, permitting greater power. Archer skeletons on Mary Rose had this deformity.
I suspect that Henry V’s archers from a century earlier were even more deformed and massively muscled. Draw weights of war bows are mind-boggling. The range was substantial, ie from perhaps 120 to 220 pounds. Lower, you could shoot more often. Higher, you could penetrate plate. Most perhaps 160 to 180#.
Indeed, I vote for “right wing populism” otherwise known as common sense,
Where’s Mel ‘Braveheart’ Gibson when we need him?
He he 🙂 – I wonder how William Wallace would have responded to a bunch of politicians telling him he is now under lockdown?
It didn’t go so well for him when he went against the government.
Unfortunately Andrew Moray died of wounds he received at Stirling Bridge. Many think he was the brains and Wallace the brawn. Havingsuccessfully regained control of north Scotland for King John Balliol. He subsequently merged his army with that of William Wallace, and jointly led the combined army to victory at the Battle of Stirling Bridge. Because of his untimely death his part is almost forgotten.
“Andrew Moray”
This sounds suspiciously like Andy Murray?
Any relative?
The political left routinely assign their own faults to others. So, for example, “the majority of the population having low incomes and poor health, contrasting with a rich ruling elite” is a direct description of life under socialism.
What on earth is the Met doing, indulging in this garbage. They would do better to explain how rising food production, lower excess winter deaths, and lower winter heating costs could possibly create any problems at all in Britain.
If governments continue policies which make energy grotesquely less affordable and continue wasting billions of the publics money on vaccines and tests for segments of the population who are only slightly at risk, well then only a military owned and operated by Pfizer would be able to maintain order. That is, initially they would promise to maintain order, then they would promise to stop the disorder from spreading so quickly, then they would promise that the disorder wouldn’t be as bad as long as they were given complete control. The important thing is that the super rich would be in complete control again, as is the natural order.
Armed Criminals roaming the streets certainly sounds like parts of modern London but there are areas of Liverpool which are even worse. It has been like that for a few years now. The UK MET Office would be more productive if it concentrated on accurate forecasts instead of ‘Climate Change’ propaganda for the evening news.
From what I saw Belfast puts any other UK city to shame in terms of potential for violence, tooled up paramilitary teenage wannabes getting wasted on whatever they can get their hands on. Wild night scene, young people partying like mad, living for the moment because of all the tension. But you’ve really got to watch your step if you want to make it to the morning.
Living for the moment in todays world:
It sounds like almost any major city run by socialists.
The UK population are suffering from an energy-cost crisis similar to the EU caused by its own government.
Net-Zero-Watch reports today that: “rather than address the fundamental problem with UK energy supply, which has been distorted and damaged by vast subsidies to intermittent green generators (£10 billion a year at present), the government seems prepared to bail out energy companies and force banks to lend them billions”.
The UK government’s problems are self-inflicted by it interfering in the market and in an attempted fix causing even greater problems; it’s as if the UK is being run by a company of Mr Beans.
It’s not as if- it is being run by Mr Bean types. At least if Corbyn had won in 2019 we could have blamed it all on him and elected a Tory party that wasn’t being run by a green socialist and his insane wife. As it is we have absolutely no choice- it’s socialism or some more socialism.
There are lots of alternatives – reform, reclaim, independents etc – give the liblabcongreens a good ignoring that should send the memo
“the complete collapse of society leaving armed militias and criminal gangs to roam the land unchallenged.”
My first thought was that I’m glad I have my AR-15 and Glock 43. Is a couple thousand rounds enough?
lost in a terrible boating accident of course?
so sorry. I don’t own them any longer.
Nope. That ammo will become the currency. You’ll need it to buy staples.
The blind leading the blind. They claim to be saving us from climate chaos and anarchy with absolutely no evidence there is any serious problem with the climate, and their solutions are the actions that will almost certainly lead to anarchy and the breakdown of society.
Exactly. They are right, but for the wrong reason.
Armed with what? Butter knives and narwhal tusks? The British population has been disarmed precisely to avoid any such independent action.
It’ll be asparagus spears at ten paces.
Some of us still have guns…..
DS Andy Cartwright: Everyone and their mums is packing round here.
Nicholas Angel: Really, like who?
DS Andy Wainwright: Farmers.
Nicholas Angel: Who else?
DS Andy Cartwright: Farmer’s mums.
Farmer’s Mums.wmv – YouTube
In a call back to this when Angel comes back into the area (before the ‘horse’ stuff part of the movie) he is nearly instantly shot at by… a Farmer’s Mum!
Wright and Pegg REALLY thought their movies out when they wrote them. Not a lot of wasted opportunities or loose plot threads.
not so. There are over 100k registered shotgun owners and perhaps half more with firearms licenses……
And the minute the government starts to lose control, the police will be at your door to collect those guns.
100K out of 68 million population. Let’s say that one third are children. That means about 0.22% of the adult population have access to firearms, which are only useful at close range. Those are probably mostly farmers who are beyond military age. They would have to stand against 148,000 in the active military, plus police, all armed with the latest in military technology. The government knows where all the civilian firearms are.
Compare that to the US with about 200 million adults, and an estimated 100 million firearms of all types. That means about 50% of US adults, or all ages, have access to firearms nearly as capable as the military and police. The US standing army is about 500,000 active duty. The government doesn’t even know who has most of the firearms, which is one reason democrats have been pushing for universal registration.
There are well over 300 million firearms in the U.S. FJB.
I haven’t been keeping up. A quick check online shows numbers all over the place from about 310 million to as high as 600 million.
42% to 44% of US households are estimated to own at least one firearm.
Almost as bad as global temperatures!
I was in Tasmania the day (1998) when a young gunman opened fire and killed 35 people and wounded a bunch more at Port Arthur. My wife and I were supposed to be touring there as well but were held up in Sydney so didn’t arrive until early Sunday. She was making a presentation in Hobart so I went for a bike ride; had a great day wasn’t aware until later. Of course the the Howard govt decided to make all semiautomatic rifles illegal. Pissed of many farmers I knew who used the weapons to control feral hogs etc.
They were making guns way back in the 1400’s. Machine shop technology has advanced a smidge since then. Anyone with a couple thousand dollars in machine shop equipment can churn out as many guns as needed.
You mean the event that occurred because there was no one with the capability to stop the madman?
Well, there likely won’t be much of a Royal Navy at that point so perhaps us Americans can set up a black market between East coast US and West coast UK and sell guns in Britain.
This is all hypothetical… of course.
The last time we did it for free. When the British army lost almost all of its guns in the evacuation at Dunkirk, Americans had enough guns that many voluntarily donated their sporting firearms so that there was at least some hope of defending the island should the Germans decide to invade.
The problems with lack of weapons in 1940 was actually less to do with the Dunkirk/Fall of France problems (which obviously didn’t help the issue) but with the fact the British had been forced to rapidly expand their Army and were still catching up.
If you look at what the BEF took to France they were not actually dripping in cutting edge gear. They also had significant shortages and some of the gear left behind was actually a blessing in disguise.
(British Pathe has clear evidence of Dragon Gun Tractors in use as part of the BEF. These were a 1920s design of a fully tracked open topped vehicle and were so uncommon that when I first saw footage I had to ask what they were as I was completely unfamiliar with them.)
Britain was not able to fully equip all of their army in the UK in mid late 1940, but Dunkirk was part of the overall problem, not the root cause.
The collections of US privately owned sporting guns? Yeah, that totally happened. Can’t remember what happened to most of them though. Think they got put in a warehouse somewhere as it was easier then cataloguing them all. Don’t even think they were given to the Home Guard because US made Enfield rifles had started to arrive by then.
Apparently, a few of the US sporting arms made it back to the heirs of the original donors, graciously returned by the heirs of those who used them. However, it appears that most are unaccounted for.
What motive does the UK Government have for allowing the release of material from one of its official bodies, when that material in incapable of verification and is legally not far from calling for riots and insurrection.
There are many shallow-thinking voters who, after reading this, will react something like this – “If this is what our Government says is going to happen, we have to plan for our children to be educated and prepared for it. It is riots that they will face.”
If I was still able to influence government action, I would be calling in my legal teams to determine if these words are something like treason – and punishable.

Notice that the leftwing Met Office fears the non-existent rightwing mobs and ignores the existing leftwing mobs.
OxFam has been pushing the inequality barrow this week in it’s report
https://www.oxfamamerica.org/explore/research-publications/inequality-kills/
The usual lefty MSM ran the junk as an article
All the rich people are killing the poor by “economic violence” and all it needs is a wealth redistribution to solve it all.
Welcome to the nutcase left.
Similar thoughts were expressed in the 70s with the predictions of peak oil causing famine and poverty everywhere.
Of course peak oil never happened but they moved on to global warming then to climate change.
Yep, sounds like life in the UK to me. The police can’t touch criminals because of all the wokery and they’re probably quite pleased about not having to deal with nasty, dangerous criminals, so they and the government basically spend their time criminalizing and persecuting the rest of us. The BBC will likely make a ‘fact based’ drama out of this. The left really have gone off the deep end.
It has been like that for a long time. It started with lower level criminal acts and just expanded to cover more and more serious crime.
In about 1980 we bought a new house in a small market town in Shropshire. It had a small detached garage. The lot was fenced off with 6′ high larch-lap fence. When we moved in, one of the fence panels behind the garage was broken. The builder replaced it.
The summer ended and school started again. My wife noticed a group of kids (about 12 years old) walking past the kitchen window. Seems that they had “traditionally” walked over the rough ground which our house was now built on as a short-cut. A new house and fence was not going to stop them. The fence panel behind the garage was now a pile of splinters again.
Called the police. An officer came around, looked at the damage, and listened to the story. We asked what he would be able to do. He said he would report to his senior officers, and it would be up to them. He was about to leave when he took pity on this newly married young couple. He told us that of course he hadn’t said this, but in reality nothing would happen. Those kids were from a rather rough area and the official attitude was hands-off, so as not to stir up trouble, and especially with something as low-level as “minor” vandalism and trespass.
I replaced the fence panel. The following week there was the sound of breaking wood and a group of kids appeared from behind the garage. I decided to fix the problem myself. I ran out of the door to confront them. They scattered as they saw my angry face. I chased them, singled out what looked like the oldest/leader and finally caught up with him. Picked him up by his lapels, explained that if I saw him again, I would break his legs, then pushed him a deeply into a privet hedge as I could, told him to pass on the warning, and left him struggling to get out of his temporary prickly prison.
Never had another problem with them.
That is a wonderful demonstration of practitioners in a particular field attempting to work well outside their area of expertise.
It should, but almost certainly won’t, serve as a salutary lesson.
In contrast, Bjorn Lomborg takes IPCC climate projections as inputs to his own field of expertise, but is criticised by elements at both ends of the climate change danger spectrum.
You assume their field is weather as opposed to narrative. For those making the statements, climate is just method to deliver the message.
NaNoWriMo was in November.
(and boy has that little not for profit gone Woke the past few years)
Anyone have a link to the actual report.
I had a deeper read of the quoted article and there is a lot of weasel words in there.
‘Modeled’… which of course should be first, second and third warning alarm to most readers.
Did they ACTUALLY model? Did they set up cause and effect parameters in their little sandbox simulation and then press GO?
Or did they dust out their old creative writing projects and run them through a spell check?
It’s what comes out of being chronically chemically depressed from eating a low nutrient plant based diet where the only significant ‘ingredient’ of that food is sugar.
Then of course the tasteless mush has to be washed down with alcohol – as a sort of ‘reward to oneself’ for eating that junk
THEN, to further compound the depression, the chemically mashed and beaten-up mind crashes out on the sofa and watches 6 hours per day of socially, sexually, morally and politically dysfunctional garbage on their TV
Its absolutely no wonder the Met Office came out with such garbage – there’s nothing original about it, its just what they saw on TV last night while miles high on sugar, alcohol and cannabis.
And when they’ve done that for yaers and years and years, the chemically disabled brain loses track of where fantasy ends and reality begins.
The remedy:
Tell people to/that:
Saturated fat is actually good to eat
Minimise their carbohydrate intake
To stop watching news programs on TV (idealy not watch TV at all)
Get rid of excessive Government with all its puritanical red tape and endless surveillance cameras (something designed to stress people and make them feel constantly ‘guilty’ and hence why they need all the alcohol the use)
Then:
Go fracking for the gas under Lancashire and north Nottinghamshire
Build build build nuclear
Make people feel warm, safe and happy = The Exact Contrary of what all Western Governments are doing now.
Q: Why are they doing that?
A: Because all Governments and their civil servants are people who eat too much sugar, drink too much alcohol and ‘do’ too many other mind bending drugs
I’ll find it somewhere sometime (there’s just too much stuff to bookmark it all) but there’s research that says Alzheimer’s is detectable in folks who are ‘merely’ pre-diabetic, and probably don’t even know they have either.
Why not, the ‘victims’ stand out plain as day – they are simply obese.
And is why Alzheimer’s dementia, nowadays what most folks get in old age, is referred to as Type 3 Diabetes.
iow: Dementia is caused by eating sugar
Even worse, the plant based diet has set off a pandemic amongst the elderly of Vitamin B12 deficiency.
Holy <expletive> Cow – the B vitamins are what hold mine/yours/everybody’s entire nervous sytem together and B12 deficiency shows as dementia identical to Alzheimer’s in the few years before it kills you
(Also involved in protein metabolism and immune systems are all about ‘friend or foe’ proteins – are any pennies dropping out there?)
And where do people get Vitamin B12 normally..
You knew I had to get it in somehow, folks get the B12 from ingesting bacteria that live in healthy high organic soil.
In eroded soils those bacteria have gone and when they do, people go mad.
Soil Erosion did it and we have lovely positive feedback system in that the cultivation of sugar is what is eroding the soil
Very effectively, ploughs are digging our graves.
“where do people get Vitamin B12 normally…”
Cornflakes:
For a Serving Size of 1 cup (28g, or 1oz)
Vitamin B12 1.4μg

I prefer fish, meat and dairy.
My preferred yeast extract spread is full of B12.
Marmite on toast??
Where did you dig up all this utter bollox??
No input from our very own Matt Rowlatt aka Griff?
I’d say the MO have outgriffed the griff this time.
~ Dr Stephen Schneider, Stanford University,
Just when you thought the “crazy” couldn’t get any worse.
I’m sure the UK tax payer will be delighted to know that they’re money is being well spent.
The Meteorological Office report, which was carried out by Cambridge Econometrics, the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, and the universities of Edinburgh and Exeter, does however suggest a way of averting this future – by rejoining the EU.
LOL! you can’t make this sh@t up…
Why on earth is the Met Office wasting my money on this garbage? When the world is actually getting better and better? Go away and do some forecasting. Where’s my barbecue summer?
What kind of people write such rubbish? And how well are they paid?
1, Green wokery people.
2. Too much.
The irony that these idiots are failing to recognise is that, if organisations like extinction rebellion etc get their way, their long-term plan is decentralisation of government to local collectives. That’s what will lead to the return of a feudal, tribal and, hence, more violent society!
What an embarrassment
That is an easy prediction for them to make. They are part of the mechanism helping to bring about those conditions as fast as they can.
and yet the UK climate has changed… no frost till after Xmas this year, again…
Annual floods and flash floods and new temperature records… annual destructive gales…
“no frost till after Xmas this year, again…”
Yes, that’ll do it, nothing makes me want to man the barricades more than the absence of frost.
Plenty in Suffolk – and snow too.
Gales don’t become more destructive just because you attach names to them. And anyway, if they and the floods are “annual” then the climate cam hardly have “changed”, can it?
Be logical, at least!
Griff
The climate never ceases to change
Bollocks, we had frost (North Wales) in November !!
the UK climate is essentially the same as when Stonehenge was built 8,000 ago except we are several °C cooler.
Most floods are caused by a change in land use.
If you build on a flood plain (there’s a clue in the name) you’re going to get wet.
Was there frost on December 24? If not, then griff is correct. /sarc
And yet
Warmer winters = less deaths
So if you give some useless UK people money griff they’ll make the weather nice for everyone globally?
How IS that climate stabilization going then griff? You’re sounding a bit skeptical about progress to-date. Even your cognitive dissonance must be getting fried.
You are making the most inane arguments for CAGW, which is an unintended admission you have no rational arguments or evidence. Yes the climate has changed and yes there are weather events happening in the UK and everywhere else. It would be very strange if that were not the case. We don’t live either in hot house Earth or in the worst depths of glaciation (but not far from that) and extreme weather events are always going to happen. So what? Is that all you’ve got? Pathetic.
Lord knows, floods and gales have never happened in Britain before.
So you’re saying this scenario is plausible?
WTF??
You on Acid or some’at?
Sounds like the MET Office hired panic porn gnomes to write the report.
They are in a panic that we may have a number of years of cooling thereby cutting off the money gravy train. Stir the panic now, get the money out into the hands of the financiers before it gets cut off.
“a surge in ‘Right-wing populism’”???????
Since when hve right wingers gone into the streets and caused violence.
This is the preserve of the left.
it’s called projection. It’s what the fascists do. Blame others on what you do yourself.
How dare right wing politicians be popular!!!!!
Don’t they know that everyone only loves the caring sharing lefties??!!??
But let’s just ignore Antifa, eh?
I think people would love the “sharing” lefties more, if the lefties were sharing their own stuff. The usual practice is to steal stuff from people who work so that they can buy votes from people who would rather not.
Leftists are absolutely losing their collective minds…again…
The irony is that if Leftist governments continue implementing their insane “green” energy policies by futilely trying to replace fossil fuels with wind and solar, there will be an utter economic and social collapse as such an objective is utterly impossible.
From the start, almost all Leftist hacks proposed “fixing” the “CAGW existential threat with wind/solar and unicorn farts, and vehemently opposed nuclear power….
That should have been irrefutable evidence that CAGW was a political phenomenon and not a physical one, but alas, 40 years later, idiotic Leftists continue to preach we only have 8 years to replace all fossil fuels with wind and solar or we will all die horribly… Rubbish..
I can’t believe this silly CAGW hoax is still taken seriously…
BTW, now that the omi-cold variant has effectively ended the COVID crisis, the eye of Sauron will switch its evil gaze to CAGW as the next catastrophic crisis we must all lose our minds over, or we’ll be pillaged by roaming hordes of conservatives….
Leftists are so hilarious…
They would be truly funny if they weren’t a threat to our way of life and standard of living.
funny, this is what is to be expected after a “successful” energy transition to solar and wind: only enough energy for a small elite. Climate policy will become the new class struggle.
It’s fiction.Met weather is fiction.
My bet is it’s from the script of a soon to be shown BBC drama.
Science fiction.
Well, golly gee, folks, that sound like the Doomsday setup for a TV series we could title “Survivors”.
.
Oh, wait – that was already done in 2008: “Survivors”.
Whoopee! We’re all gonna croak!!!! Bring the chips and cold drinks and pop some popcorn!.
On another note, somewhat less dismal, doomsday scenarios have been around for millennia, so this “forecast” is nothing new. Or maybe it’s wishful thinking on the part of those prognosticators?
We already have that in US cities and it’s not caused by climate.
My first thought was-
How come Anthony didn’t pick this up when he was looking into the change from whitewash to acrylic paint with those Stevenson Screens?
I’d forgotten about that.
I bet not a single one of the alphabet soup agencies have introduced a correcting factor for the fact that the switchover from whitewash to acrylic paint caused the Stevenson screens to warm up.
It was more along the lines of why he didn’t pick up ‘the complete collapse of society leaving armed militias and criminal gangs to roam the land unchallenged’ while perusing the data. This is clearly Meteorology101 stuff and Anthony was slipping.
Don’t forget the triffids. You’ve got to have triffids.
I, for one, welcome our new tripodal masters.

“the complete collapse of society leaving armed militias and criminal gangs to roam the land unchallenged.”
At least this is an improvement in governance and a triumph of personal freedoms.
That is today’s reality in numerous Islamic countries. As the UK imports more and more Muslims, that is what you will surely get. Its not climate related.
I feel certain that the collapse of rational and competent government will bring us to this future long before any piddling climate change will. It is far deadlier and much, much, much more predictable. Just mix an incredible amount of taxpayer money and borrowing ability with a collection of self centered and idiotic grifters. Economic and social disaster guaranteed. You don’t have to cook it.
Those doomsday scenarios are more likely the potential consequences of FIGHTING climate change.
Have we reached peak stupidity yet?
Dad, when we will arrive at Mont Stupid?
Dad?
Dad?!!!
‘The data don’t matter. We’re not basing our recommendations [for reductions in carbon dioxide emissions] upon the data. We’re basing them upon the climate models.’ – Chris Folland (Met Office)
‘Rather than seeing models as describing literal truth, we ought to see them as convenient fictions which try to provide something useful.’ – David Frame (Climate modeler, Oxford University)
Is this them?

If I was going to find out how normal people would react to stuff, I wouldn’t ask anyone at posh universities like Cambridge, Edinburgh and Exeter.
