Washington Post pushes Twitter, Facebook to silence Milloy

Reposted from Junk Science

Steve Milloy,

Below is today’s Washington Post article (Web | PDF), where as it turns out, ‘climate misinformation’ is meant to mean Steve Milloy’s Twitter and Facebook accounts.

Please support JunkScience.com.
Who else drives the bad guys this crazy?

Here is the WaPo attack in relevant part:

Here is the offending tweet referenced by the WaPo:

Is any of that false? Let’s see.

Colorado has a long history of natural drought. Here’s a reconstruction of the past 1,200 years. Note Line F.

La Nina can heighten the chance of drought.

Drought-causing La Nina can be triggered by solar activity… as per this 2020 Washington Post report.

Was the fire ‘manmade’?

There was an early report of a downed Xcel Energy power line. But that has been doubted as the downed lines were actually telecom lines.

But there have been no reports of lightning, so manmade is looking like the only explanation.

So my tweet hit on all cylinders and is hardly “false” or “misinformation.”

Backing up my hypothesis is the report below volunteered by a local. I confirmed the basic facts for Boulder: Rainfall in 2021 was significantly higher than average (20.68 vs. 18.1) — despite the drought of the past few months.

So why would the Washington Post launch such a nasty and baseless attack?

Early this week, I tweeted about the Washington Post’s Capital Weather Gang total forecasting fail concerning this week’s East Coast snow storm.

Ouch. I guess that one hurt someone’s feelings at the Washington Post. They say ‘payback is a bitch’ but here payback is just silly.

Finally I would note that the Washington Post went to both Twitter and Facebook to seek redress about my “bad” behavior.

Both seem to have declined to take action as of now. Good for them.

But I would note that Facebook has been forced to admit that its climate “fact-checking” is just its “opinion.” Here’s an excerpt from Facebook’s answer to John Stossel’s defamation complaint:

The same would apply to Twitter as well.

Facebook is using the Rachel Maddow defense, that they have so little credibility that a label of false is just obviously an opinion.

The Rachel Maddow defense but not the Infowars defense, so I guess MSNBC is now legally, officially, a really literally truly less credible outlet than Infowars. For real. In a literally literal way.

No. It simply means they feel safe openly advocating it. People don’t move from argument to censorship because argument fails; they make that move when prior arguments have created a climate where censorship no longer seems so unreasonable. The next stage is openly promoting legal prosecution of those disseminating “harmful” misinformation.

Unfortunately I think you are right Alan. They want censorship but we do remember the Nazi book-burnings so they don’t want to move too fast lest the masses see through their ghastly plans.

We must accept that the green lobby is getting stronger and they are so entrenched and control so many propaganda levers that we can not fight them on the basis of reason, fact or science.

Any rational plan for a fightback against the forces of unreason? Where is John Galt when you need him?

How about fighting fire with fire. If we all join Facebook and Twitter and pump out fake news on climate matters that is manifestly complete bollocks then we could debase the currency of twitter fake news.

For example global warming is causing more holes in socks.
Climate change is causing politicians to lose credibility with their constituents.
Atacama desert draughts prolonged because of AGW,
Pyramids shrinking due to AGW
CO2 causes genital warts
Climate change is causing an epidemic of transgender people who either do or do not menstruate more than most.

One small comment on Washington Post. Some years ago, it ran a “fact check” on President Trump. They claimed that Trump was wrong to say the the Paris agreement said that $100bn would be committed to the third world every year from 2020. The WaPo claimed in its “fact check” that the figure was $10bn.

I challenged them on that and told them that it would take 30 seconds to read the webpage and demonstrate that Trump was right. They gave me the email addresses of the two authors of the piece, but neither replied to my challenge.

So much for the Washington Post and truth. And they challenge Steve Milloy???

The “fakecheckers” are merely checking narrative compliance. Unfortunately for them and us, the narrative is not factual. If it were, it would be a very different narrative.

January 7, 2022 7:17 am

So why would the Washington Post launch such a nasty and baseless attack?

Because that’s what they are paid to do, produce propaganda to advance the chosen narrative and attempt to discredit any opposing arguments. You can tell they consider that their job because they do it 24/7/365. Don’t make the mistake of thinking a slimy outfit of contemptible liars like the Washington Post has anything to do with actual journalism or truth.

The worst possible form of climate heresy is open mockery – and being seen to be right, too.

They have to have tight control of information to keep people in line, or on narrative. It is this dominance/influence over people that leaves little room to question authority, but rather to conform.

The word pathetic springs to mind where the Washington Post is concerned.

The popular hypothesis is catastrophic human-made global warming – that is NOT happening. There was some mild, naturally-caused warming, but it ended years ago.

The global warming alarmists have made 48 fully-expired, failed predictions to end 2020. Even at 50:50 odds per failed warming prediction, the probability of that being mere random stupidity by the warming alarmists is 1 in 281 trillion.

In 2002 we predicted global cooling starting circa 2020 – we will see. I think measurable cooling started in Feb2020, but there was a major crop failure across the Great Plains in 2019.

Well, one could always argue that more CO2 grows more grass. But that is true for food as well. The net effect of warming so far and at this moment is still positive. Only really dumb individuals would believe something else. IF the temperature was dropping instead, it would also be a “climate crisis”, but a real one, so there is no way around a climate crisis. It is a political phenomenon of our times to drive the globalisation project of the elites.

Because they are leftists. One of the defining characteristics of leftists is argument based on emotion, not facts in context. When someone challenges their nonsense, they resort to emotion again because they have no persuasive facts to support them, so you get name-calling, references to “experts” or “scientists”, popular appeal (“everyone knows it”), and of course the more direct “just shut up!”. You can never win because they won’t stay on point, but hopefully putting the facts out there will persuade those who can be persuaded.

“Finally I would note that the Washington Post went to both Twitter and Facebook to seek redress about my “bad” behavior.”

*************

This is not the first time that Facebook has been approached with an effort to silence members of the climate skeptic community.

The letter linked to below that was sent to Facebook back in July of 2020. Many of the signers of the letter are from the list of the most prominent people in environmentalism and the climate scare movements:

https://climatepower.us/facebook-letter/

Facebook is allowing the spread of climate misinformation to flourish, unchecked, across the globe. Instead of heeding the advice of independent scientists and approved fact-checkers from Climate Feedback, Facebook sided with fossil fuel lobbyists by allowing the CO2 Coalition to take advantage of a giant loophole for “opinion” content. The loophole has allowed climate denial to fester by labeling it “opinion,” and thus, avoiding the platform’s fact-checking processes.”

I have said this before: There is a real-world Orwellian Big Brother out there in the U.S. (and no doubt in other countries) with multiple components to it, including members of the mainstream media. This real-world Big Brother does not tolerate dissent against the climate scare narrative (and other headline issues) and will actively attempt to deal with the dissenters as thought-criminals who must be silenced.

It is this behavior that we see from these thought-police that tells the rest of us that there is something that needs to be kept hidden, something that the world must not be allowed to see and know because the knowledge is threatening to them and their agenda. The warning George Orwell left behind with “1984″ is every bit as relevant today as is was the day the published the book. Maybe more so.

Kudos to everyone like Steve, Anthony and all other contributors here at WUWT and elsewhere else on the worldwide web who help to keep the truth and sound science on this subject alive. You don’t win a football game if you are always on defense.

1) Can anyone provide concrete numbers about this conjecture ?

We shall see in the spring of 2023 when the Republicans call the “fact checkers” to testify under oath to congressional committees. Require facebullsheep, twatterbs, etc. to specify WHO said something was false and subpoena to testify and make the claims UNDER OATH, then send them to the DOJ for prosecution for perjury if they don’t retract their false ‘fact checks”. Then use the Federal Election Commission to investigate the owners and operators of the companies for “like kind” contributions to the Democrat party and politicians in excess of that allowed by election law. Put them all in jail and fine and remove all involved, including all board members, directors and any employees behind the fraud.

The Hunter Biden laptop cover-up was a conspiracy that NSA records probably could prove through tracking of communication between the pertinent parties. Use all that information to take down the leftist elite then disband the NSA. But get the Hillary emails first and LOCK HER UP.

True. The Washington Post probably reached its peak with its 1973 Pulitzer Prize award in the category “Public Service” for its coverage of the Watergate scandal (mostly credited to Post reporters Woodward and Bernstein). That Watergate coverage was a shining example of the power and benefits to US citizens of having a “free press”, established by the very words in the First Amendment of the US Constitution. It was fundamental to causing a corrupt, sitting US President to resign from office.

Again, it so disheartening to see how this once-great newspaper has fallen from grace with its recents calls for censorship.

The remedy for false speech is more speech, hence the first amendment which properly defends the liberty for all speech.

But we are continuously told that the first amendment applies only to government rules and regulations by the people who are not associated with the government.

Which then means that commercial entities get to trump the correct philosophy of human liberty and interaction.

Which then leads to capitalist oligarchy, which the left repeatedly claims to vigorously oppose.

As you can see by my short analysis, the people who are demanding fact checking and censorship (the left) are highly confused and a danger to liberty everywhere.

There is no way around that. They have voluntarily sealed their fate to remain sheep among wolves.

Many tweeter accounts are stupid and boring. OK. But you can usually find people who say silly stuff and still get it right on some topics. For almost all French speaking tweeter account discussing politics, there are some truthful statements, some relevant takes on important subject (well except for pure pro Macron pro En Marche tweeters, and then I can still agree with them on a few things).

In US politics, not so much. Often accounts are going to be “progressive” and “liberal” propaganda with zero good – or even non-crazy – take on anything. Literally. I’ve seen many accounts liking/reply/supporting Auschwitz Museum tweeter account take on the trivialization of you know what. I have checked a bunch of these accounts who apparently hate trivialization and each of them had, on their first few most recent tweets, one that did just that. (It’s rare that I can browse for an hour without one trivialization; a few days ago, I saw 7 trivializations in a few hours of browsing tweeter.)

So it’s just theater. I feel that US tweeter is a massive scam like the Ashley Madison cheating website.

It isn’t just a few silly tweets; it’s an observation, after hours of browsing (wasting time) on Tweeter, that most of the first replies to a tweet on US politics are from accounts that have almost no personality (and often extremely silly bios – low effort troll accounts?) and that promote these in particular:

These accounts are incredibly stupid, they don’t break news, they have no reason to appear sooooo often. Most are nobodies, a few are persons who are famous for saying stupid stuff elsewhere. Some are rogue actors like the disgusting Daniel Uhlfelder lawyer that was not disbarred (because only doing legitimate work can result in disbarment, probably). At least that one is inept but famous in the real world, for the worst reason (like a predator being famous).

It used to be that B52Malmet was the only account that was that inept and that often seen for no apparent reason. Now TheSadTruth appears very often. Again for no intelligent or stupid reason.
So I claim the whole stuff is 100% artificial and a con.

There are always two sides to a story. If one is only hearing one side, then they are working with a half-truth.

If liberals try to suppress things they don’t agree with, then it is obvious they are not interested in the whole truth.

Why would that be? For the same reason that Biden hasn’t insisted on a bi-partisan committee to investigate the charges of voting fraud to remove the cloud over the legitimacy of his election. They are afraid of what might crawl out from under the rocks they start turning over.
