Alina Chan is a molecular biologist specializing in gene therapy and cell engineering at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. She partnered with the famous science writer, Matt Ridley, to write Viral, the Search for the Origin of COVID-19. The book was published November 16, 2021, and the combination of Dr. Chan’s expertise and Dr. Ridley’s impeccable writing skills make the book read like an Agatha Christie whodunnit. It is fascinating, educational, and an entertaining read. Well worth your time. This review is based on the Kindle version.
The book is about the search for the origins of the coronavirus—SARS-CoV-2—that causes COVID-19 by a small group of amateur and professional investigators that call themselves “Drastic.” The name means “Decentralized Radical Autonomous Search Team Investigating COVID-19.” This organization traces its beginnings to Twitter, and it gained substantial credibility when Facebook labeled its posts as “false information.” Nearly all the findings of Drastic have subsequently been found to be true. There is no definitive proof that COVID-19 was genetically altered in the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV), but the book does an excellent job of laying out the evidence.
In early January of 2020, as the seriousness of COVID-19 was becoming apparent, Dr. Shi of the WIV, found that the SARS-CoV-2 gene sequence was a near perfect match (96.2%) to one of her Institute’s bat viruses, named 4991, aka RaTG13. Yet when she published this discovery February 3, she neglected to cite her own 2016 paper describing the origin of the virus. The sample was collected in 2012 in a Mojiang County, Yunnan Province copper mine 1,800 km from Wuhan, where three people from the mine died of an unknown respiratory illness. A 2013 thesis concluded that the miners died of a SARS-like coronavirus from bats in the mine. The virus, at that time, could not spread from human to human, only from bats to humans. This was the beginning of a Chinese-led coverup of the data required to establish the origins of SARS-CoV-2. The coverup was aided by an American, Dr. Peter Daszak of the Eco-Health Alliance, who obtained U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding for the WIV.
In November of 2020, Nature published an addendum acknowledging the existence of the 2013 thesis and the story of the 2012 Mojiang copper mine deaths and virus sample. Drastic had uncovered all these important facts and the Nature addendum confirmed the results of their investigation, which had been ridiculed as a “conspiracy theory” by the mainstream media, Daszak, and other prominent virologists. It seems the only serious investigative journalism being done on the origins of SARS-CoV-2 was by bloggers.
There are two crucial facts that play an important role in this mystery. When a virus jumps from an animal to humans (called a zoonotic event) it must adapt to its human host through a quick series of mutations. First it needs adapt to the human cells it will invade and finally it must change so that it can transmit from human to human. These steps have not been found for SARS-CoV-2, it appeared in 2019 fully formed and already adapted to humans. Normally the zoonotic source for a new virus is found very quickly, as it was for 2003 SARS, since these necessary mutations can be seen in samples from the animal source and in the first human-to-human victims, but no zoonotic source has been found for SARS-CoV-2. The question is why?
Dr. George Gao, the director of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Beijing originally thought the novel SARS-CoV-2 virus came from the Wuhan seafood market, but later found that the seafood market was a victim, the virus existed and was being passed from human to human long before it was observed in people or animals in the market. It was people who brought the virus to the market, not the other way around.
There is no definitive way to tell a genetically engineered virus from a natural mutation. As Chan and Ridley write: “Today’s technology allows the seamless construction of entire virus genomes.” However, strange and unnatural gene sequences can give investigators clues. It is interesting that Dr. Kristian Anderson emailed Dr. Fauci on January 31, 2020, saying that “some of the features (potentially) look engineered.” Many other prominent virologists thought the same. Yet, in public they said the opposite. Seven days later, Dr. Daszac wrote: “We stand together to strongly condemn conspiracy theories suggesting that 2019-nCoV does not have a natural origin.”
Engineering animal viruses to spread through the air from human to human had been done before. In May 2012, Dr. Yoshiro Kawaoka’s research group at the University of Wisconsin and the University of Tokyo published a paper on how they engineered a version of the highly deadly H5N1 poultry virus to spread through the air from mammal to mammal. Kawaoka’s results were duplicated by Dr. Fouchier at Erasmus University in Rotterdam.
These two papers caused an uproar in the medical community, why were researchers manufacturing deadly airborne diseases? When H5N1 does infect humans, it is 60% deadly. It is only caught directly from birds during their slaughter, it has not mutated (naturally) to spread from human to human. These were not rogue researchers working in secret military labs, but eminent researchers in major universities that were funded by the NIH. The researcher’s motive was to see if it could be done, NIH funded them for that purpose, interesting, but is it worth the risk?
There is a long list of labs that accidentally released deadly viruses and bacteria that later killed people, is this a reasonable and safe expenditure of NIH funds? Smallpox and foot-and-mouth escaped from laboratories in the U.K., Marburg escaped from labs in Russia and Germany, among others. U.S. laboratories notified federal authorities of 1,500 accidental releases of pathogens between 2006 and 2013. Escapes are not rare occurrences. The H1N1 epidemic almost certainly originated from an accidental laboratory release in China during a vaccine trial, as Chan and Ridley explain in their book on page 150.
How likely is it that SARS-CoV-2 was engineered in a laboratory? It has never been found in an animal that has not had close contact with humans infected with COVID-19 and the closest animal virus is the aforementioned RaTG13. RaTG13 is only a 96% match to SARS-CoV-2, not close enough to be the direct source. This is suspicious, but not definitive. There is no evidence that Chinese researchers adapted RatG13 to humans through human cell cultures or humanized animal tissues, and lacking that, we don’t know if SARS-CoV-2 was engineered. It is possible for a virus to magically appear, fully adapted to humans, with no intermediate versions present in any animal, but very unlikely. That is the point of the book, draw your own conclusions.
It is also important to consider that no evidence of a natural origin for SARS-CoV-2 has surfaced. This is extraordinary when we consider how quickly the natural origin of the 2003 SARS epidemic was found in Guangdong. Locating the original 2003 SARS infected animals took several months, but antibodies were found in the Guangdong animal traders very quickly and nothing like that has been found in the animal markets in Wuhan. Eighty thousand animal samples, from dozens of species, and hundreds of animal carcasses from the seafood markets have all tested negative for the virus.
Chan and Ridley remind us that while WIV has published scores of papers on the various viruses that it has manipulated and tested, not one of the papers mentions a virus like SARS-CoV-2. If we conclude that SARS-CoV-2 was engineered there, we must believe that it was done during the brief window between the genetic engineering procedure and the first paper on the new virus.
Since Viral was published, Taiwan News has reported that Taiwan’s Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) head Chen Shih-chung has confirmed that the Delta variant of the virus infected a researcher in a Biosafety Level 3 laboratory. The genetic sequence of the Delta variant the researcher was infected with matches the samples she had been working on and does not match the local Taiwan Delta strain. Laboratory accidents do happen.
Chan and Ridley do not accuse China or WIV of deliberately releasing the virus, in their opinion the release, if it happened, was accidental, just as it was in the Level-3 lab in Taiwan. However, the absurd secrecy imposed by the Chinese government is odd, if they have nothing to hide. The location of the cave where RaTG13 came from is well known but remains strictly off limits to journalists, scientists, and people who try and approach the mine. Invariably people who try to approach the mine are followed and detained by police. Requests by WHO and the CDC to participate and help in the Chinese investigations into the origins of SARS-CoV-2 have been denied. Likewise requests for critical data are denied.
No matter that there is no conclusive evidence for the lab-leak theory or the natural theory, there is no excuse to withhold evidence and data on the origin of SARS-CoV-2. The virus caused death, suffering, and loss worldwide. China has an ethical obligation to share whatever it can to help find the cause. Withholding data and access to the likely origin point only makes them look guilty and helps no one.
The book is well organized, illuminating, and well written, as we would expect from Matt Ridley. The book is authoritative due to the eminent credentials of Dr. Alina Chan. I highly recommend the book to anyone interested in the source of COVID-19, which is probably everyone.

OneAmerica said the death rate is up a stunning 40% from pre-pandemic levels among working-age people.
“We are seeing, right now, the highest death rates we have seen in the history of this business – not just at OneAmerica,” the company’s CEO Scott Davison said during an online news conference this week. “The data is consistent across every player in that business.”
OneAmerica is a $100 billion insurance company that has had its headquarters in Indianapolis since 1877. The company has approximately 2,400 employees and sells life insurance, including group life insurance to employers in the state.
Davison said the increase in deaths represents “huge, huge numbers,” and that’s it’s not elderly people who are dying, but “primarily working-age people 18 to 64” who are the employees of companies that have group life insurance plans through OneAmerica.
“And what we saw just in third quarter, we’re seeing it continue into fourth quarter, is that death rates are up 40% over what they were pre-pandemic,” he said.
“Just to give you an idea of how bad that is, a three-sigma or a one-in-200-year catastrophe would be 10% increase over pre-pandemic,” he said. “So 40% is just unheard of.”
Davison was one of several business leaders who spoke during the virtual news conference on Dec. 30 that was organized by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce.
Most of the claims for deaths being filed are not classified as COVID-19 deaths, Davison said.
“What the data is showing to us is that the deaths that are being reported as COVID deaths greatly understate the actual death losses among working-age people from the pandemic. It may not all be COVID on their death certificate, but deaths are up just huge, huge numbers.”
He said at the same time, the company is seeing an “uptick” in disability claims, saying at first it was short-term disability claims, and now the increase is in long-term disability claims.
“For OneAmerica, we expect the costs of this are going to be well over $100 million, and this is our smallest business. So it’s having a huge impact on that,” he said.
He said the costs will be passed on to employers purchasing group life insurance policies, who will have to pay higher premiums.
The CDC weekly death counts, which reflect the information on death certificates and so have a lag of up to eight weeks or longer, show that for the week ending Nov. 6, there were far fewer deaths from COVID-19 in Indiana compared to a year ago – 195 verses 336 – but more deaths from other causes – 1,350 versus 1,319.
These deaths were for people of all ages, however, while the information referenced by Davison was for working-age people who are employees of businesses with group life insurance policies.
At the same news conference where Davison spoke, Brian Tabor, the president of the Indiana Hospital Association, said that hospitals across the state are being flooded with patients “with many different conditions,” saying “unfortunately, the average Hoosiers’ health has declined during the pandemic.”
In a follow-up call, he said he did not have a breakdown showing why so many people in the state are being hospitalized – for what conditions or ailments. But he said the extraordinarily high death rate quoted by Davison matched what hospitals in the state are seeing.
“What it confirmed for me is it bore out what we’re seeing on the front end,…” he said.
The number of hospitalizations in the state is now higher than before the COVID-19 vaccine was introduced a year ago, and in fact is higher than it’s been in the past five years, Dr. Lindsay Weaver, Indiana’s chief medical officer, said at a news conference with Gov. Eric Holcomb on Wednesday.
Just 8.9% of ICU beds are available at hospitals in the state, a low for the year, and lower than at any time during the pandemic. But the majority of ICU beds are not taken up by COVID-19 patients – just 37% are, while 54% of the ICU beds are being occupied by people with other illnesses or conditions.
The state’s online dashboard shows that the moving average of daily deaths from COVID-19 is less than half of what it was a year ago. At the pandemic’s peak a year ago, 125 people died on one day – on Dec. 29, 2020. In the last three months, the highest number of deaths in one day was 58, on Dec. 13.

There is no real Covid-19 pandemic. Covid-19 was only dangerous to the very elderly and infirm, and is similar in average mortality to other seasonal flu’s of recent decades.
The Covid-19 PCR test is not fit-for-purpose and provides many false positives.
Routine testing of asymptomatic people is a waste of resources and drives erroneous policies including lockdowns.
The Covid-19 lockdowns were never effective or justified. Harm done by the lockdowns exceeds by 10 to 100 times the harm from Covid-19. End all lockdowns now and do not lockdown again.
Simple, inexpensive treatments are known to save lives – Vitamin D, Ivermectin etc. Why are these treatments not being widely recommended and implemented by Alberta authorities?
The increase in deaths of the elderly in Winter is a well-established seasonal phenomenon. “Excess Winter Deaths” in the four Winter months routinely average about 100,000 per year in the USA and about 10,000 per year in Canada, as described on our 2015 summary of Excess Winter Mortality that includes the landmark Lancet study.

I published against taking the mRNA injections long before I saw the following videos, based on fundamental scientific principles – a relatively mild disease, except for the very elderly and infirm, with a very low risk of dying for the vast majority of people, and a high (3%++) risk of severe complications now and later from the mRNA injections.
You don’t have to believe everything in these videos to be concerned about the very real high risk / low reward of the mRNA (Pfizer and Moderna) injections.

Alan, I appreciate your thoroughness, but I got the J&J (Jannsen) vaxx and have had absolutely NO/ZERO bad reactions to it. I also got my flu shot some weeks later. None of that keeps you from catching the common cold, but as I said, I have had zero issues with what I got.
Your question: “Why are these simple treatments not being used?” is pertinent, but this entire business has been sideswiped and taken over as a way to control people, and nothing else. I’m as concerned about school kids as anyone else. They want to go back to school. Why are restaurants being told to shut down again? They pay taxes into the state’s coffers.
This has rapidly become a nonsensical and monumentally stupid way to bring civilization to a halt. It isn’t working too well, either.

My rough estimate of short-term deaths caused by the Covid-19 injections is about 1 in 500 – so most people will be OK in the short term – longer term, not so much.
Another researcher’s credible estimate of jab-caused deaths is 1 in 60 in the first year, based on UK data. Hope he’s wrong – we’ll see.

I see little point in risking an experimental jab, when the disease it claims to protect against has less likelihood of adverse events than those of the jab.
I got a positive lateral flow result last Thursday, after getting a sudden wave of exhaustion the day before, and then mild headache and muscle aches. Symptoms consistent only with the Omicron variant currently sweeping the UK. No PCR tests available for general population in this area at that time – but I am personally satisfied that this is different to any previous virus I have had in the last fifty years. Immediate self-isolation, and followed a version of the Vitamin D (+C) hammer protocol, the primary symptoms lasted about three days, giving way to slight cold symptoms which I still have. I did a lateral flow again today, and it remains faintly positive. Bored with this solitary confinement, but hopeful that the viral pandemic is almost over. The vaccine injury pandemic may only just be beginning.
My very capable physician friends said weeks ago that we should just let Omicron run and quickly get herd immunity – no more lockdowns, masks, isolation, “vaccines”, etc. I agree.
Omicron is more contagious but much less severe.
Our governments will almost certainly do the opposite, and stretch it out in time and make things worse. That’s what they do best.

As some of you may have received my past posts that included a Stew Peters broadcast and another of Craig Paardekoop who has broken this story wide open by showing the varying toxicity and lethality in the vaccines from all manufacturers. He also shows the distribution pattern. He was able to establish the coordinated effort between the vaccine companies and identify the lot patterns and distribution of lots that would either kill or maim based on their toxicity levels. They talk about the coordinated roll out by the vaccine companies.
Because these efforts were synchronized they show “intent” and that is what Reiner is speaking about, since “intent” has “immense legal significance”. With intent, you can get compensation for your actual damages.
Keep this and pass on to those who have been harmed and are getting ignored by their governments.

A huge new study has found the risk of serious heart problems called myocarditis in men under 40 soars with each dose of a Covid mRNA vaccine – and is sharply higher than the risk from a coronavirus infection itself.

The study, which British researchers released in late December, showed that the risk of myocarditis almost doubled after the first Pfizer shot in men under 40. Then it doubled again after the second and doubled againafter the third – to almost eight times the baseline risk.
For the Moderna vaccine, the risks were even higher, reaching 16-fold after the second shot. (The risk of a third Moderna shot could not be calculated because too few people received it.)
Because each Moderna shot contains 100 micrograms of mRNA, while each Pfizer shot contains 30, the findings suggest strongly that the heart risks are dose-related and likely to continue to rise with each additional shot.
The study also contained some evidence that post-vaccine myocarditis might be more dangerous than other forms of myocarditis. It showed a trend towards higher death rates in people hospitalized for myocarditis after vaccination compared to other myocarditis cases.
Both myocarditis and pericarditis are forms of heart inflammation that can be very serious, even deadly. In an appendix, the researchers reported that 263 Britons were hospitalized for myocarditis within four weeks of receiving a Pfizer shot; of those, 38, or 14 percent, died. Only about 9 percent of people hospitalized for myocarditis that did not follow an mRNA vaccination died.
The researchers did not look at other potential cardiovascular risks, such as heart attacks or irregular heartbeats, although American and European databases of post-vaccine side effects contain many reports of those as well.
The findings come even as many colleges and universities – including public schools like the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, large private schools such as Syracuse University, and Ivy League institutions such as Princeton University – demand that their students receive a booster Covid shot before returning to campus.
For nearly all these students, an mRNA shot is the only viable option, as the Johnson & Johnson shot is no longer in common use.
These colleges are likely subjecting their male students to a risk of myocarditis and pericarditis, a related illness, that is much higher than the overall risk of Covid, which is vanishingly small for healthy teenagers and young adults. Many larger universities are likely to have multiple cases of male students hospitalized for myocarditis as a result of the mandates.
The massive study was is based on data from 42 million Britons who received at least one Covid vaccine dose, including roughly 22 million who received the mRNA vaccines.
About half were given the mRNA vaccines, while the rest received AstraZeneca’s DNA/AAV vaccine, which is not available in the United States. The AstraZeneca vaccine, which works similarly to the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, had a lower risk of myocarditis than mRNA vaccines.

On Oct. 4, 2020, with professor Sunetra Gupta of Oxford University, we wrote the Great Barrington Declaration (GBD). Our purpose was to express our grave concerns over the inadequate protection of the vulnerable and the devastating harms of the lockdown pandemic policy adopted by much of the world; we proposed an alternative strategy of focused protection.
The key scientific fact on which the GBD was based—a more than thousand-fold higher risk of death for the old compared to the young—meant that better protection of the old would minimize COVID deaths. At the same time, opening schools and lifting lockdowns would reduce the collateral harm to the rest of the population.
The declaration received enormous support, ultimately attracting signatures from more than 50,000 scientists and medical professionals and more than 800,000 members of the public. Our hope in writing was two-fold. First, we wanted to help the public understand that—contrary to the prevailing narrative—there was no scientific consensus in favor of lockdown. In this, we succeeded.
Second, we wanted to spur a discussion among public health scientists about how to better protect the vulnerable, both those living in nursing homes (where approximately 40 percent of all COVID deaths have occurred) and those living in the community. We provided specific proposals for focused protection in the GBD and supporting documents to spur the discussion. Though some in public health did engage civilly in productive discussions with us, in this aim we had limited success.
Unbeknownst to us, our call for a more focused pandemic strategy posed a political problem for Dr. Francis Collins and Dr. Anthony Fauci. The former is a geneticist who, until Dec. 19, 2021, was the director of the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH); the latter is an immunologist who directs the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). They are the biggest funders of medical and infectious disease research worldwide.
Collins and Fauci played critical roles in designing and advocating for the pandemic lockdown strategy adopted by the United States and many other countries. In emails written four days after the Great Barrington Declaration and disclosed recently after a FOIA request, it was revealed that the two conspired to undermine the declaration.
Rather than engaging in scientific discourse, they authorized “a quick and devastating published takedown” of this proposal, which they characterized as by “three fringe epidemiologists” from Harvard, Oxford, and Stanford.
Across the pond, they were joined by their close colleague, Dr. Jeremy Farrar, the head of the Wellcome Trust, one of the world’s largest nongovernmental funders of medical research. He worked with Dominic Cummings, the political strategist of UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
Together, they orchestrated “an aggressive press campaign against those behind the Great Barrington Declaration and others opposed to blanket COVID-19 restrictions.”
Ignoring the call for focused protection of the vulnerable, Collins and Fauci purposely mischaracterized the GBD as a “let-it-rip” “herd immunity strategy,” even though focused protection is the very opposite of a let-it-rip strategy. It’s more appropriate to call the lockdown strategy that has been followed a “let-it-rip” strategy. Without focused protection, every age group will eventually be exposed in equal proportion, albeit at a prolonged “let-it-drip” pace compared to a do-nothing strategy.
When journalists started asking us why we wanted to “let the virus rip,” we were puzzled. Those words aren’t in the GBD, and they are contrary to the central idea of focused protection. It’s unclear whether Collins and Fauci ever read the GBD, whether they deliberately mischaracterized it, or whether their understanding of epidemiology and public health is more limited than we had thought. In any case, it was a lie.
We were also puzzled by the mischaracterization of the GBD as a “herd immunity strategy.” Herd immunity is a scientifically proven phenomenon, as fundamental in infectious disease epidemiology as gravity is in physics. Every COVID strategy leads to herd immunity, and the pandemic ends when a sufficient number of people have immunity through either COVID-recovery or a vaccine.
It makes as much sense to claim that an epidemiologist is advocating for a “herd immunity strategy” as it does to claim that a pilot is advocating a “gravity strategy” when landing an airplane. The issue is how to land the plane safely, and whatever strategy the pilot uses, gravity ensures that the plane will eventually return to earth.
The fundamental goal of the GBD is to get through this terrible pandemic with the least harm to the public’s health.
Health, of course, is broader than just COVID. Any reasonable evaluation of lockdowns should consider their collateral damage to patients with cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and other infectious diseases, as well as mental health and much else. Based on long-standing principles of public health, the GBD and focused protection of the high-risk population is a middle ground between devastating lockdowns and a do-nothing, let-it rip strategy.

Personally, I think that it’s reasonably likely there is life on other planets out there somewhere. I don’t believe anything either way, just there seems a reasonable chance of it. Either way, without extraordinary evidence, I can’t accept that they have visited us. If there were any civilizations with a level of technology capable of that, we would have encountered evidence of them in our astronomical observations. They would have exactly the same constraints WRT time, physics, etc. as we do.

Our happy little planet is about 4.5 billion years old so life got started very very quickly once things cooled down a bit…or, as Fred Hoyle postulated [and was laughed at] life is floating around the galaxy and takes off whenever it finds a favourable home.
Complex life could have evolved on other planets which were destroyed [Krypton?]. The survivors would probably have been the hardiest and simplest microorganisms.

He sat right down and told me not to worry, if I was in good health I might get sick for a few days or not even know it. “Wow!” I thought, “What’s all the excitement about?”
One of the members of a group I belong to said that he has always had minor heart palpatations but after receiving the third booster shot the frequency has dramatically increased and now they are sometimes accompanied by feeling faint.
My search on death statistics for Covid 19 turns up 803 children under 18 since January 2020 but nothing about any other health issues they might have had. Out of a population of 350 million, that comes to a death rate of about 0.001% So why are schools closed?
My opinion is that Covid 19 has become VERY politicized. That some people find it to their advantage, to skew the data, is a very ugly turn of events.

I’m not sure what this means. It could be that COVID-19 deaths are being underreported as some studies claim (other studies claim the opposite), or it could be that other non-COVID-19 diseases are killing more people. Why? Delaying getting medical treatment or not getting early cancer screenings or other early interventions due to COVID fear? According to the data I’ve seen, COVID-19 deaths represent about 12% of annual deaths, so that 40% increase, if it’s accurate, bears further investigation. Without more data, one can only speculate on the accuracy of the CEO’s statements and the possible causes.

That looks like a statement that says nothing, yet tells everything. This guy is desperate to say something, but can’t spell it out.

I don’t know if there is any evidence at all except ‘no other obvious explanation’ but the high numbers of excess total deaths is being attributed by some researchers as unacknowledged vaccine deaths.
It means, as predicted months ago, the mRNA experimental drugs are now killing people (a huge number are predicted to have 5-10 years of expected lifespans for ages 18-55).
I know 7 ‘vaccinated’ people. Two died leukemia, 4 heart attacks, one currently has pneumonia. Night and day from healthy to post-2x jabs sickly. All the dozens of unjabbed I know haven’t gotten sick, not even a runny nose.

Without more data, one can only speculate on the accuracy of the CEO’s statements and the possible causes.
This increase has been noticed in government statistics from at least several countries. I haven’t paid much attention but it is certainly getting attention in some quarters and apparently getting the cold shoulder in more official ones.
Some of those paying attention claim that the only difference they can see that might account for so many people dying is that so may people have been vaccinated with these new type vaccines, for which there are many claims of unpleasant side effects. That does not prove anything but it can reasonably be considered suspicions,

Try reading The Expose. Quite a good blog, some good articles and most appear well researched. Some of those who comment appear well informed, some are bonkers. I agree with you it’s politicised and difficult to find the truth and your unlikely to find it in the msm.
Is it possible you haven’t heard of VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Effect Reporting System), which according to some doctors only represents between 1% – 10% of actual cases, often because completing the forms is very time-consuming.

Alexel, VAERS data is not what you think it is. The number of deaths directly attributed to a vaccine reaction is almost zero. I think a couple of deaths were from the JJ vaccine early on but last I read there were none attributed to Moderna or Pfizer. They are very safe. And effective.

Unfortunately any comparison data regarding VAERS suffers from selection bias. Prior to this current situation, VAERS was little known and little used by anyone. I doubt that any physician new much about the system prior to 2020 or 2021. Furthermore, I am not even sure it has been around more than about 10 years or so. There was a reporting system for decades but it required self reporting and was done as a paper system. Therefore it is not surprising that there are more cases reported with current vaccines than any other vaccine prior.
Everyone I know who has had the vaccine has had an very unpleasant reaction. They get the same reaction to the second dose too. This proves to me that the vaccine is not working to improve the body’s defence against the vaccine itself, let alone the virus. It just doesn’t work.
I’m not anti-vax in any way, but this isn’t a vaccine as far as I can tell. They seem to have changed the definition of a vaccine, just like the WHO changed the definition of herd immunity to mean ‘vaccinated’. It couldn’t possibly be because there’s so much profit to be made from ‘vaccines’ could it? Nah…

I had all the typical childhood vaccinations common in the USA at the time. I am also a veteran and was vaccinated for almost everything it seems when I was 22.
All the vaccines I ever had reduced the risk of infection and transmission to practically nil. I was and am considered immune. Sure, some vaccines need boosters decades later, but not every 6 months.
Do the current Covid vaccines really qualify to be called vaccines? A “fully vaccinated” person can still get Covid and transmit it to others. They can carry as heavy a viral load as an unvaccinated person. Immunity begins to wain within 3 months and a booster is needed in 6 months. What other vaccine has these problems?
Thing 1 – The one commenter I trust is Dr. John Campbell. link He presents data and research papers in a straightforward manner. He occasionally gets fact checked by idiots like the BBC, so it’s not like he just spouts the party line.
Based on South African data but, as far as we can tell, confirmed by British data, Omicron is hugely infectious but not very pathogenic. For fully vaccinated people, it’s indistinguishable from the common cold unless you get a test.
The biggest problem with Omicron is all the workers who have to self isolate even if they have no symptoms. That’s already causing British hospitals to be short staffed.
The good news is that Omicron seems to be displacing Delta. Enough of the population will be exposed to it that herd immunity will develop and that will be the end of the pandemic.
Apparently immunity acquired from vaccines isn’t particularly robust. (at least it seems to prevent death though) The immunity acquired by exposure to the virus is apparently much more effective at preventing re-infection. Omicron exposure does seem to provide considerable immunity to Delta, which is why Delta is decreasing both in relative and absolute terms.
If we’re lucky, we’re witnessing the last hurrah of the wuflu.
Thing 2 – Chinese scientists were fired from a virology lab in Winnipeg, Canada. link Whatever happened it’s clear the Chinese government was responsible for some kind of skullduggery. In my mind that’s the smoking gun that proves the Chinese response isn’t just due to scared party officials trying to cover their asses.
Dr. John Campbell is a Nurse. A well qualified Nurse but nevertheless, a Nurse. My wife used to have a number of equally qualified Nurses working under her at a prominent UK University that trains Nurses to degree level. My wife is also a Nurse and very well qualified.
I don’t mean to do Dr. Campbell down, he’s very good at what he does which is give a thumbnail explanation of what the emerging situation is, but his data analysis (as it is) is always based on official figures.
His big pluses, for which he can take considerable credit, is to promote vitamin D and his expose on ivermectin. His interviews with Dr. Tess Lawrie and the evident scepticism he’s recently displaying about what’s currently happening are also worthy of praise.
What really grinds my gears about him though, is his absolute blind faith in ‘vaccinations’ to the point where he is irresponsible enough to actually tell people to get the jabs, as he does.
To my knowledge he’s yet to spell out that natural immunity is by far superior to ‘vaccine’ acquired immunity. That natural immunity from already having had covid can be compromised by the jabs rather than enhanced. The jury may still be out on that but there seems to be evidence that’s the case and he should be informing people of it if he’s going to promote the jabs.
He should also be informing people that the jab is only authorised under an emergency use provision and that there are no long term studies, indeed, that animal trials were skipped as well.
I corresponded with Dr Campbell during the BMJ drug trial report fiasco. I criticised him harshly for his YouTube on the article in which he uncritically replicated what was an obvious crock of isht. He immediately retracted and published another video pointing out the some of the many flaws in the BMJ article.
I believe him to be a man of integrity, but like so many similar people he realises the parameters of “truth” within which he is unfortunately constrained to work in order to remain on the platform. His publicity of vitamin D, ivermectin and, indeed, hydroxychloroquine have probably done a lot of good and his position on the jab seems to have become more flexible recently.
Whether he will risk all (otherwise known as telling the whole truth) and join illustrious company such as the recently yeeted Drs Malone, Peter McCullough, Kory and Lawrie has yet to be determined.
I think I watched that presentation where John retracted his comments. I was immensely impressed you pulled him up on it and that he responded honestly.
Don’t get me wrong. I think, like you, the man is doing a valuable service. As you point out, he’s cute enough to stay under the Youtube radar, and of late his scepticism is evident.
Youtube obviously hasn’t got their facial recognition tuned into good old British facial expressions or voice patterns to recognise snark.
However, I think it’s important for people to understand he’s not a medical doctor. His skills are different and unique, as any medical doctor would agree. Sit my wife in front of an MD and she’ll make them squirm on her speciality (the same as John’s) not that she would, but neither her nor John have the huge breadth of knowledge required by a GP.
As my wife puts it, GP’s have to know something about everything, and what they don’t know about something they invariably learn, almost overnight so they can treat their patients. John and my wife don’t have that breadth of knowledge.
I don’t think John will ever be as forthright as Malone or McCulloch (interesting, Irish/Scottish surnames) because his knowledge base is restricted to his speciality.
It gets up my nose when medical people disparage folks who merely possess a PhD, rather than an MD.
I’ve known way more PhDs than MDs but, that said, I’ve never met an MD whose intellect astounded me. FWIW YMMV
PhD’s are specialists in a single subject. MD’s (GP’s in the UK) have a huge breadth of knowledge across multiple interrelated subjects but their depth of knowledge is usually confined to a single subject.

I would confirm your assessment of Omicron and the vaccines. I had a very mild sore throat and runny nose for a few days before Christmas and felt a bit ‘under the weather’ on 23rd and 24th Dec., Tested negative on 24th but positive on 26th. Tested again today (3rd Jan.) and still positive, but even the mild symptoms that I had are long gone. I have had two doses of AZ plus a booster of Pfizer just a few weeks earlier, presumably that made a difference. I am prone to respiratory problems and have had pneumonia a couple of times including once early last year, so I am relieved that no respiratory symptoms have manifested.
I don’t generally accept the wilder conspiracy theories about the vaccines, but as a former research employee of a pharma company, I am well aware that Pfizer, AZ and the others are commercial companies and that their products are ultimately in competition with each other. It seems to me that there has been quite a lot of criticism of the AZ product, which is much cheaper and more stable than the mRNA products. This may be legitimate, I am not saying that pharma companies don’t put the welfare of patients first, but the welfare of shareholders is not irrelevant.
Big Pharma definitely do not put the welfare of patients first. The only possible exception is AZN, which offered its vector vaccine at cost.
The other pharmas are criminal conspiracies. In order to get Emergency Use Authorizations, they conducted a concerted media and governmental campaign to squash effective treatments, such as HQC and invermectin.
They are shameless mass murderers. As also their co-conspirators in the CDC, NIH and FDA, whose directors become well-compensated board members on PFE and other pharmas.

I was in hospital for four major surgeries between Sept 2019 and Feb. 2020 in the UK.
I don’t do masks, social distancing or clotshots.
Being that hospitals are the most infectious areas in the UK for covid, I didn’t catch it. Nor did I see any evidence of it other than a whole lot of OCD characters literally wringing their hands every few minutes at hand sanitising stations.
NHS at breaking point? I was admitted to a specialist hospital for a persisting surgery induced condition in February 2020. I had an entire six bed ward to myself for a week. Quite literally one to one Nursing and medical attention.
I’m now noticing more and more of my fully ‘vaccinated’ friends and family are coming down with covid, and multiple reoccurrences of covid. I’m fine.
I simply can’t understand why people ever believed it was a good idea to take an experimental drug with no long term safety data – so they could go on an overseas holiday, only to be told after the first jab they still couldn’t. They got the second jab, for the same reason!……….

I’m not sure that is an accurate description of Dr Daszak’s qualifications, Wiki describes him as a zoologist concentrating on ‘zoonosis’ or diseases that jump from animals to humans.
He has a B.Sc. in zoology and the honorific ‘Dr’ is a PhD in parasitic infectious diseases.
The term ‘virologist’ implies a medical degree and I think in the UK some years as a practicing physician is required to further qualify as a virologist.

A little story for you.
I could have joined the ‘support unit’ as it was called in Strathclyde Police many years ago, which included a firearms unit. I didn’t believe in firearms then (I don’t now believe the police should be armed if the populace aren’t. I’m responsible for my own safety) so I didn’t join.
However, I did have occasion to bear arms one day. A call to a local farm (we were a semi rural area) has a distressed farmers wife watching one of her sheep being eaten by a dog on the hill overlooking the farmhouse. We could plainly see the dog on the sheep.
She begged us to shoot the dog, but of course we couldn’t. So she presented my partner and I with two well maintained, side by side shotguns that may have been from the American Revolution, or at least close.
No safety’s, no nothing but she begged us, in tears, to destroy the dog in case it attacked another sheep. She had called for the shepherd but the message was he wouldn’t get there for an hour. Late 1970’s so no mobile phones.
Reluctantly, we did as we were asked. Completely illegal as neither of us had firearms licences, and completely against every police code you could imagine.
Now, I knew a little about gun safety from a friends father who used to let us use a .22 in his factory for some target fun, so I knew what a safety was, and not to point a gun at anyone. That was it.
We crept up the hill about 20 yards apart so if the dog made a run for it we at least had a change of getting it. As I was just about poke my head over the rise of the hill to have a shot at the dog I herd buzzing and whistling passing right over my head, and then a pop. Then more zinging and another pop.
I looked at my partner who was oblivious, and realised, someone else was shooting at the damn dog without telling us!
I shouted and waved my arms (not clever with a shotgun being fired in my direction) but all went quiet and I stuck my head over the hill, to see the shepherd, sporting his shiny new up and over, whizz bang shotgun, and a young, dead German Shepard lying next to a struggling sheep.
The dog wasn’t eating the sheep, it was trying to untangle itself from a chain around it’s neck it had clearly escaped with and caught the sheep in.
So whilst the three of us were standing in a circle discussing what had happened I thought it prudent to make my gun safe. Under instruction from the shepherd (yea mate do this, blah blah blah conversation, do that, blah blah blah, conversation) I eased back the flintlock style hammer of the shotgun and eased the trigger so I could gently release the hammer forward before doing the same with the other, then breaking the gun and extracting the cartridges.
Impressed yet? I got all this from westerns, I knew what I was doing.
Then I blew a teacup size hole out the ground within 6 inches of all our feet! I was doing everything right, just with the wrong hammer and the wrong trigger.
A lot of silent staring went one. Me at the hole, the shepherd at me, my partner at me, me at the shepherd, my partner at the hole………….
“I did what you told me to!!!” I blurted.
“Never mind, no harm done, give it here mate, I’ll sort it out.” said the shepherd. “hand me yours as well mate” to my partner, “carefully”.

My second, very quick story, an addendum to my longer shotgun story.
I was attacked in my local store the night before last by a guy who threw a bottle of ‘water’ over me. All over a really silly parking dispute. I pulled up to a kerb as a guy was about to step off the kerb, and he walked into the side of my car.
Arrogance on both our parts. One or other could have stopped and let the other do what they wanted, but we didn’t. No big deal, I got out the car and was subjected to a torrent of abuse.
I waved it off, but the guy kept coming back for more, he wouldn’t stop, so I walked into the store, got two packs of beer and stood in the queue to pay.
I watched the guy walk into the store and before I knew it he sprayed a full 2 litre bottle of liquid over me. I had four cans of beer in each hand so I smashed them into his face.
Thereafter ensued the usual pathetic handbag waving tussle.
I’m 64 years old. I’m recovering from a hip replacement and I have a rotator cuff injury so I struggle to reach for a cup on a kitchen shelf.

I believe that President Trump’s biggest mistake was thinking that vaccine production and distribution could be done more efficiently and quickly. I blame the team he set up under the vice-president for not explaining the complexities, urging more caution and far more encouragement for treatment protocols. He did try and steer some of the thinking this way but his vice-president and Dr Fauci completely undermined this. For all his shortcomings, the president did seem open to good advice from experts but certainly had too many misleading advisors.

I’ve just had 4 days of feeling pretty awful but just feels like 3 previous occasions of flu I have had and back then I didn’t care where it came from either . So I am going to go out on a limb and say as they never isolated covid 19 and the CDC states they do not know how many deaths were misdiagnosed as covid- “Specifically, deaths from circulatory diseases, Alzheimer disease and dementia, and respiratory diseases have increased in 2020 relative to past years (7), and it is unclear to what extent these represent misclassified COVID-19 deaths or deaths indirectly related to the pandemic (e.g., because of disruptions in health care access or utilization)” – that is is just another flu of no great consequence floating around.
For what it’s worth, my own little covid ‘conspiracy’ theory is that it probably was accidentally released from the Wuhan lab. My reasoning goes thus:
Were this a naturally evolved virus like, for example, the common flu (yes, I know there are innumerable variations of it) it would be fairly robust having navigated through various animals including bats and pangolins with the numerous natural challenges it would face, and mutate to overcome.
We are informed by our governments that the influenza virus mutates once a year (a ridiculous concept if there are numerous variations of it) and that a vaccine developed for the previous years mutation should work for the new years mutation.
As I write this the concept of an annual vaccination just becomes more and more absurd. A bit like standing blindfold in a darkened room littered with dartboards, expecting to hit the right one with a single dart, never mind hitting the bullseye.
To my knowledge, covid has mutated five time in the UK including the current Omicron variation suggesting it’s meeting challenges it’s never experienced in the laboratory. Indeed, there is a theory that the Delta variant was attacked by a common cold virus and almost hybridised into the seemingly harmless Omicron variant virtually overnight. Importantly, it was mutating even before ‘vaccinations’ became available. So they didn’t cause the initial mutations.
That speed of mutation suggests to me the original covid virus was an immature virus which probably wouldn’t have made it out the natural environment other than as a harmless cold no one would have noticed.
Oddly enough, in the ‘wild’ it has now evolved into Omicron, a harmless cold no one would notice. Coincidence?
The insane panic over the whole thing, uniquely, by every single government in the world, following almost identical, now believed faulty treatment protocols has never been accomplished before on any single subject. Even Sweden advised masks, social distancing and isolation, it just didn’t mandate them. I don’t believe this international unity has ever been accomplished in earth’s history.
My suggestion is that every world government knew fine well what had happened long before they are prepared to admit they knew.

To be fair to Matt Ridley, he’s British with limited contacts in the US. He also began writing his book some time ago and finished it in a hurry. In fact, considering the time to write, edit, publish, print and distribute the book, it looks like he had a matter of months to research it.
I know Matt Ridley gets a bit of a pass round here because his “Rational Optimist” stuff was really well done. But he’s been involved in GOF obfuscation from the start, his recent book is a carbon copy of DRASTICs research ommitting certain lines of enquiry IMO.

Is there any mention in the book of patents filed for the spike protein? Dr David Martin has been arguing that the “novel” coronavirus is not novel since there are patents going back to 2002 that contain the genome of SARS and other curious items. For example,US7279327 was issued in April 2002, which patented the SARS pathogen as a mechanism to distribute the HIV vaccine, and this was a couple of months before the SARS outbreak.
On 5th June 2008 Ab-links filed a series of patents that targeted the novel features of SARS-CoV-2 – specifically polybasic cleavage site, spike proteins and the ACE2 receptor binding domain (which is novel to SARS-CoV-2). A series of patents were issued 2015 (US9193780), 2017, 2018, 2019. When you consider the paper that identified the SARS-CoV-2 virus, you find 73 patents between 2008 and 2019 that have the elements that are supposedly novel – particularly the ACE2 receptor binding domain, polybasic cleavage site and spike protein
Why do we need a book about the virus and “vaccine”?
Check the Patent registrations. Dr David Martin has noted over 4,000 patents on the virus and “vaccines”. The “vaccine” patent was there before December, 2019.
How likely is it that the SARS-CoV-2 naturally evolved and the first reported cases just happened to be in Wuhan, home of a Chinese biolab where they experiemented on coronaviruses and other infectious diseases? That would be an amazing coincidence, would it not?

I am still waiting for the Virginia department of Health to determine if the July 2019 Springfield respiratory illness that killed 6 in local nursing homes, hospitalized many and sickened hundreds was COVID -19. The VDH reported over a year ago that they would be doing testing to make the determination but there has been no word since then. Soon after this viral breakout in July 2019 there were warnings of an uptick in viral pneumonia in Virginia and the D.C area and then in Sept and Oct in Philadelphia. Then the CDC warned of a bad flu season that appeared to be underway early. Yet still no word on what the mysterious organism was that hit Virginia in July 2019. If it was COVID…all bets are off.
Fairfax County the Greensprings Nursing Home outbreak in Springfield VA 7/12/2019, 3 deaths, over 25 hospitalized and over 50 sickened. In a report by ABC news: ‘Respiratory outbreak’ being investigated at retirement community after 54 residents fall ill – ABC News (go.com) “July 29, the Fairfax County Health Department said testing conducted by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on samples from Greenspring identified the virus that causes the common cold. There have not been an unusual number of illnesses reported there since July 15, officials said.”
Yet later in August the VDH would indicate 55% increase in viral pneumonia cases in VA over the long standing average.
So was the virus that caused the Greenspring outbreak that later spread to another nursing home just a bad common coronavirus, or a rhinovirus or COVID 19? It’s still a mystery.
If it was a Rhinovirus that caused the outbreak, (Rhinovirus do cause outbreaks in nursing homes like the one at Greensprings) then why would the VDA say they were going to test the samples for COVID 19. So it is possible they found another common cold virus a Non-SARS common coronavirus otherwise it would have been a moot issue. The VDH just need to do what it said it was going to do and settle the issue.

There is no real Covid-19 pandemic. Covid-19 was only dangerous to the very elderly and infirm, and is similar in average mortality to other seasonal flu’s of recent decades.
The Covid-19 PCR test is not fit-for-purpose and provides many false positives.
Routine testing of asymptomatic people is a waste of resources and drives erroneous policies including lockdowns.
The Covid-19 lockdowns were never effective or justified. Harm done by the lockdowns exceeds by 10 to 100 times the harm from Covid-19. End all lockdowns now and do not lockdown again.
Simple, inexpensive treatments are known to save lives – Vitamin D, Ivermectin etc. Why are these treatments not being widely recommended and implemented by Alberta authorities?
The increase in deaths of the elderly in Winter is a well-established seasonal phenomenon. “Excess Winter Deaths” in the four Winter months routinely average about 100,000 per year in the USA and about 10,000 per year in Canada, as described on our 2015 Summary of Excess Winter Mortality that includes the landmark Lancet study.

The Covid-19 vaccine developments were rushed and are not proven safe or effective and should NOT be taken, especially by the low-risk population – those under-65 or recovered from Covid-19. The two experimental Covid-19 vaccines that contain mRNA (Pfizer and Moderna) are especially risky – due to unknown future side-effects, the risk-to-reward is far too high for the low-risk group.
