Biden’s Climate Agenda Dies In The Senate

Reposted from NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW THAT

OCTOBER 26, 2021

By Paul Homewood

Wall Street Journal’s podcast on Biden’s Clean Electricity Plan is well worth a listen:

https://www.wsj.com/podcasts/the-journal/biden-climate-ambitions-die-in-the-senate/ba212f50-5e4f-407b-b3ec-99229c52981d

You may recall how Biden’s green agenda was gutted back in June, which I posted on here. In short, he had planned to spend $2 trillion on his clean energy plan, including massive subsidies for wind and solar.

However his attempts to include all of this in his Infrastructure Bill earlier this summer collapsed in the face of opposition not only from Republicans but also moderate Democrats.

His fall back plan was the Clean Electricity Performance Program. This would provide grants to utilities that increase the amount of clean electricity they use by at least 4% a year and penalize utilities that do not meet that standard.

The Program, worth $150 billion, was incorporated in the massive green, socialist $3 trillion spending bill, currently working its way through Congress. However, it seems like the Clean Electricity part of the bill is dead in the water, thanks to the resolute opposition of Joe Manchin, the Democrat Senator for West Virginia.

West Virginia is coal country, and Manchin knows that Biden’s Green Agenda would wipe out their economy. With the Senate split 50/50, Biden needs every Democrat vote to get his bill through.

What does all this mean?

It is all very well Biden pledging to reduce emissions, but actually managing to do it is another matter entirely.

Without that system of subsidies and penalties, utilities are not going to radically change the way they operate now. And even if electric cars grow in market share, the electricity they run on will still be primarily fossil fuel based.

Biden may have have other options at hand, including regulation, but these are just fiddling around at the edges.

This may be Biden’s last chance to force his Green New Deal through. The spending bill now being fought over only needs a majority of one in the Senate, as it is being processed as what is known as a Reconciliation Bill. But only one of these is allowed each year.

Next year, the Democrats face losing their majority in the House, along with their 50/50 tie in the Senate, given Biden’s catastrophic ten months at the helm so far.

They will have better things to worry about then than Sleepy Joe’s Green New Deal.

I see you like RINOs. Not me. They’re a big part of the reason we’re in the mess we are. The RNC does not see a dime of my contributions. I only give directly to the proven conservative candidates of my choice. I gave $1,400 to Trump last year.

The RNC has been blowing my phone up asking for money in the name of Trump. I hope those that are real conservatives here know better than to contribute to them because every dime you give the RNC will go to working against Trump and those that support his agenda in one way or another.

The Nation is Burning and falling into the ashes… AND WHERE IS ANY LEADERSHIP from the GOP. Aside from Jim Jordan and few Senators….NOTHING…as the flames chase the country into the Oceans? Nothing.

75% of Republicans fervently want Elections FIXED so that they are Fair, Secure, and able to be AUDITED (easily…or AT ALL)….and the GOP hierarchy pretends there is no problem with our Elections.

Elections have consequences, stolen elections have catastrophic consequences. The Republican Party stood down when they should have stood up to the 2020 Stolen Election. The latest poll numbers show that 35% of the people now want the 2020 election over turned. In a few months that number will grow. Losing energy independence is causing great harm to the U.S. economy and every citizen’s pocket book. Lets go Brandon!

I agree, Charles. Not for age reasons, but for the huge possibility that Trump will screw it all up again. He had great policies (mostly) and great people. But the tweets and outbursts were unconscionable and divided the county. We can’t afford that risk again.
I’d vote for Pompeo in an instant, and DeSantis and many others are certainly acceptable.

“I agree, Charles. Not for age reasons, but for the huge possibility that Trump will screw it all up again. He had great policies (mostly) and great people. But the tweets and outbursts were unconscionable and divided the county.”

There’s no evidence Trump’s “mean” tweets caused him to lose the election. That’s leftwing propagada.

Trump currently has the support of 78 percent of Republicans. He is pulling up to 50,000 attendees at his monthly political rallies. He’s going to hold another in the near future.

Trump is the leader of the Republican Party. You’ll be seeing much more of him in the future. DeSantis can run as his Vice President.

Trump’s policies are right on the money. If you don’t like it when he hits back at people who attack him, then put your hands over your eyes and ears and hold your nose and vote for Trump because that’s the best bet you and the rest of us have right now.

The Democrats demonize everyone who is a threat to their political power. That’s what they have done to Trump since before he was elected, and yet they can’t lay a legal glove on him no matter how hard they try. Trump is the most honest, vetted politician in history. What more could one want out of a politician. Well, competency, I guess, but Trump has that in spades.

His personality should be secondary to everything else. Personally, I like it when Trump tells the Democrats to go to hell. We need a lot more of that.

In an extremely well-balanced article, four people are quoted as criticising the Heartland Institute while only one person is quoted on behalf of the Institute. There are two photos of people, both climate alarmists, and there is one other photo: a demonsration in favour of climate alarmism. The Institute is described as “far-right” but the psuedo jounalist who wrote the article provides no basis on which to support that description.

I agree with all your points. However, too many sheeple and idiots are offended by Trumps “style”. They are too ignorant to think about the issues and how to solve them – and how Trump solved them. Remember, you can’t fix stupid.
We need a candidate that thinks and acts like Trump but can present a thoughtful persona. DeSantis can do it. Some others can as well.
We need a relatively small set of candidates for the primaries, all of whom would be electable, who are conservative, smart and can operate in the current political climate. Whoever it is needs to keep beating on the MSM, and directly courting Blacks, Hispanics, and suburban women who really suffer under the evil Democrat control.
I think there are a few major issues that the GOP can own: the economy and inflation; education, top to bottom, and immigration. Win these three issues and you sweep the election.

It’s always interesting to read the thoughts of a RINO and your emotional arguments. Trump is exactly what the US needs at the moment. He understands the value of humiliating and belittling his opponents. His utter contempt for the swamp and its denizens was refreshing and needs to be adopted by all to counter the idiocracy that is promoting the “gender” platform and economy destroying policies. Trump also understands popular social media and the value of Memes. But for the fraud of the last election, he would have won with the greatest majority in history.

DeSantis is right where he should be. In reality, after four years of Democrat misgovernment, a demented president and a morally crippled half wit for a vice president, even the Dems will vote for Trump.

That was one of the best responses I’ve read on Trump. I started off not liking him at all, but that was my snobbishness, reacting to his lack of “class”. Admittedly he’s a bit of a Boer, but I warmed to him very quickly once I saw through his facade and looked into what he was accomplishing. At heart I believe he’s a good man in a very nasty business. He snapped back some.

He entered politics as a rank amateur, somewhat wide eyed and far too trusting. He had no idea he’d stepped right into a gator pit where more than half the occupants saw him as lunch … many of those were in his own party. They were motivated by greed and jealousy. His enemies far outnumbered his friends.

The mistakes he made were mostly from inexperience and school boy idealism but few in performance. I believe he was truly shocked by the depth of hate from the Left and the extent of the corruption before and during the 2020 election … and how extensive the fraud was. If he runs (a big if) again he won’t let that happen a second time. He will be far tougher and more like what he was being accused of.

It will be interesting times, especially if the Democrats lose the House and the Senate next year. There will be four lame ducks in the White House … the Two Bidens, Cackling Kamala and Barry O … all of whom are clueless.

I couldn’t have said it better.

Trump’s not perfect. Noone is. I have a few things I disagree with Trump about, but very few things, and those are with a few statements he has made which I think were off-base, like “keeping the oil” and “Republicans won’t go to the polls if we don’t get our way”, which is about the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard Trump say, and I haven’t heard him say very much that I would consider dumb to date.

But as far as conservative policy is concerned, Ttrump can’t be beat.

Trump understands human psychology, which is sorely lacking in many of our current batch of politicians, especially those on the Left. This is important for foreign relations.

Even if another conservative were elected instead of Trump, that person would be following Trump’s lead on policy because that’s what Republicans and any other sensible person wants.

I thought it was rather telling when Fox News compared the drop in favoribility ratings for presidents since World War II. Some had large drops over the first nine months of their administrations, but Joe Biden had the largest drop at about 12 percent.

Trump on the other hand, had a drop of about 4 percent. And that was in the face of relentless leftwing propaganda and lies launched against him on a daily basis, which had been going on for months even before he was elected.

Just think what Joe Biden’s ratings would have been if he were relentlessly attacked every day by the press.

And for those people who cringe when the Leftwing News Media attacks someone like Trump and he attacks them back, don’t think just because you elect a different Republican as president, that this public viciousness will stop.

No, the leftwing press will just transfer the demonizing to the new guy, and will make him out to be the worst human being in history, like they are attempting to do with Trump.

You won’t get a respite with a new guy. If that new guy threatens the socialist agenda to the degree that Trump threatens it, then that guy is going to get the full measure of attacks by the Leftwing Media and the Democrats. You can count on it.

If you genuinely believe that then your are completely removed from reality. How many recounts now? And all say no fraud. The only one trying to steal the last election was Trump. “All you need to do is find me 11000 votes …. then leave the rest to me.”

Rory Forbes

There isn’t anyone who can honestly say the 2020 election wasn’t fixed. Only the extent of it is in doubt. There haven’t been any ACTUAL recounts. There is so much accumulated evidence of fraud that it’s undeniable. Pelosi even admitted the election was fixed several days before it happened. Half the votes for AOC were harvested and filled out at the poling places.

Oddly enough people criticize Trump for trying to get fair treatment and legal adjudication in an obvious fraud (admitted to by many Democrats and flagrantly flaunted by many), while Hillary is still talking about being cheated in 2016 … and she didn’t have a hope in hell. Al Gore is still griping more than 20 years later and only 1 state had problems. There were 5 recounts.

If the Left didn’t have their double standards they’d have no standards at all.

Clinton and Gore both conceded within days of the election.

No … they did not. He retracted his concession and then spent weeks demanding more and more recounts until finally the Supreme Court put an end to it. Clinton is still saying she was cheated (a Russian conspiracy) to anyone who will listen. The entire world knows what happened in 2020.

Trump wasn’t “beaten”. I’ll “lecture” you whenever it’s requited or I feel the inclination. Now go away.

Of course Gore, fought the entire election hinged on a razor thin knife edge in one state. Who wouldn’t take it to court? But in the end his words of concession were those of a mature adult, not a child.

In a televised speech from his ceremonial office next to the White House, Gore said that while he was deeply disappointed and sharply disagreed with the Supreme Court verdict that ended his campaign, ”partisan rancor must now be put aside.”
“I accept the finality of the outcome, which will be ratified next Monday in the Electoral College” he said. “And tonight, for the sake of our unity as a people and the strength of our democracy, I offer my concession.”

Clinton got more votes than Trump, so she has every right to feel aggrieved. Trump the man baby lost fair and square, but can you ever imagine him saying the words”And tonight, for the sake of our unity as a people and the strength of our democracy, I offer my concession.” No chance in hell. He is the sorest of losers and his followers are the same.

If you think I am wrong where is your evidence? You just have a laughing stock of characters left in the rubble. Rudi, Sidney Powell….

Hillary is still telling anyone who will listen how she was robbed. Hillary wasn’t even close … any more than Biden was.

Trump was never given the opportunity to be heard in court regardless of the mountains of evidence. He had 10 million more votes than in 2016. More dead people voted for Biden than in any previous election.

I think Trump.is probably too old too. And I don’t think he really wants into run anyway. The biggest problem Trump had was they went after anyone and everyone that Trump tabbed for a job, and there are few people that can stand that kind of heat for long. Plus he made a string of bad picks his first two years, like Tillerson, Kelly, Mattis, Wray, Anthony Scaramuci, etc, etc, etc. And he’s a sucker for sycophants, like Omarosa, all the leaking that was constantly going on shows he surrounded himself with people willing to stab him in the back to further their own agenda.

I’m perfectly happy with Trump as leader of the movement, but I’d be happier with someone like DeSantis or Pompeo actually running things.

When you get elected president you are presented with numerous candidates for appointment, and there is no way you can know exactly how all these people will work out in a new position.

The good thing about Trump is when he hires someone and sees they are not going to work out, he fires them quickly, and puts someone else in their place, subject to them doing the job to Trump’s satisfacton.

Did you see the video of the U.S. Marine who was standing in a shop when a robber, armed with a pistol, came into the shop, followed by a couple of companions.

The Marine took one look at the way the idiot was holding the pistol and he reached out and grabbed it and wrestled it away from the robber, while the robber’s buddies ran away. The robber never knew what hit him.

The reason I bring that up is because the Marine was given an award yesterday for his actions and he was wearing a “Let’s Go, Brandon” t-shirt. I thought that was pretty funny.

Actually two reconciliation bills are allowed each year, but the Dems have already used one this year.

As of today Manchin is openly taliking of leaving the Dem party … to become an independent. And also suggested he won’t run forever-election, meaning a GOP pickup. If the Dems keep trashing Sinema she may very well do the same. Dems know they’re toast in next year’s election. They’re effed and they know it.

And it isn’t even a vaccine … any more than my immune therapy treatment for cancer was a vaccine. Here in Canada it will be jabbed and unjabbed … those who think and those who board the train when told to. They’re already building the camp here and in Australia with no embarrassment or self doubt or awareness of history.

Bullshit. It is a vaccine and it is more than 90% effective at preventing death. Claiming that “they’re already building the camp” is not only easily refutably but also makes a mockery of the holocaust.

that’s bollox.
More than 90% effective at what??

Vaccines are to prevent infection by definition. (Polio TB etc).
The wuflu kills 3% max, so the “vaccine” for sars-cov is NOT a vaccine, because it doesn’t prevent infection.

97% return to health after a brief skirmish with a nasty virus that can cause pneumonia, like lots of other virii.
Indeed, attempts to confine perfectly healthy individuals for months has an ADVERSE effect on healthy immune systems, which are helped by ordinary exposure to sunlight and higher zinc levels.

The so called vaccine has had a +/- 0.5% effect on mortality, while meanwhile all the other more serious illnesses as cancer, ordinary flu & serious blood disorders/HIV detection, have been put on hold, never mind the impact on mental health.

This is the first time in human history perfectly healthy people have been forced to sit indoors and be paid to do absolutely F-all!

izak is right for once.

As you stated (correctly) 97 to 99 percent of infected come out O.K. if they are unvaccinated.

As izak stated the vaccine is more than 90% effective at preventing death (I don’t really know what he means, but to be generous I accept this as meaning that if you are vaccinated you are less than 10% likely to die from an infection.)

97 is greater than 90.

Treat him as the simpleton that he is and pat him on the back … ‘Yes Izak, 90% effective, but a sugar pill is 97% effective. So what is your point?’

Bullshit. It is a vaccine

Only since they reworked the definition of vaccine. It is no more a vaccine than the immune therapy I received for cancer.

You’re reading and believing ALL the propaganda, aren’t you, like the good little storm trooper you are? Most of the people being infected now are people who have had the jab. Forcing covid survivors to be jabbed is criminal. Coercing people into submitting to experimental drugs is a violation of human rights.

Go ahead and refute away. The only people mocking the Holocaust are people like you calling skeptics “deniers”.

The government has the right to restrict people’s ability to do any number of things based on any number of criteria. Saying that unvaccinated people can’t do the same things as vaccinated people on the basis of saving lives is just the last one. In many countries for example you cannot attend school if you aren’t vaccinated which saves lives and is quite sensible.

You’re utter lack of self awareness along with absolute ignorance of the concepts of human rights is breathtaking. That you can’t understand the difference between requiring a specific level of competence before operating a deadly weapon and being coerced into taking a deadly, experimental drug is shocking.

One of the things The Nuremberg Code, not to mention the Bill of rights, established was that governments cannot compel anyone to accept unwanted medical treatments for any reason … especially experimental drugs, either by force or through coercion. There is no evidence that what they’re calling a vaccine is saving any lives … but we know it is killing people.

The idea that they are also coercing people who have survived the infection and have natural immunity to submit to a dangerous, life threatening treatment is criminal. Monsters who advocate for such treatment of citizens are criminally insane. I see cause for people like you to be removed from society.

New Zealand is a police state run by a sociopath. Why would they bother forcing vaccines in a nation of female sheep like New Zealand? They’ve only had 28 deaths and fewer than 590 cases? Let’s hope Biden gets impeached and removed from office early in 2023.

If the Repubicans win control of the House of Representatives in Nov. 2022, they can elect Trump as Speaker of the House, and then Trump can handle the impeachment of Biden.

I would dearly love to see that. Turnabout is fair play.

Or, if a few U.S. House Democrats get exasperated enough with Biden’s stupidity, they could vote along with the Republicans to impeach Biden. The Democrats only have a five-vote majority in the House, so it would only take a few Democrats voting against Biden to get an impeachment going.

We’ll see what those U.S. House Democrats from Texas think after the next caravan shows up on the Texas border with 40,000 people in it.

Those Texas Democrats might decide it was better to vote in favor of their constituents by impeaching Biden rather than for Biden who is allowing the State of Texas to be invaded by hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens.

Biden is ignoring his duty to defend the United States and should be removed from office because of it.

That capacity for voter fraud needs to be curtailed before the next election. After studying the work of Dr. Doug Frank and Dr. John Droz I am convinced the election was controlled over the internet. Time will tell but Lindell is filing a suite just before Thanksgiving that is designed to require the Supreme Court to look at the evidence which is by now irrefutable. I think I just wasted 20min of my life watching Frank happy like a toddler discovering a magic algorithm showing that 10 years later most people are 10 years older and you can predict their age distribution in 2020 (including his 3 peaks in that curve) and from there get a good correlation to the number of registered voters and received ballots as a fraction of that.

Aww, this guy seems not understand population distribution too well and most importantly has no idea how a proof needs to look like.

I absolutely believe Frank when he finds a high correlation between older census data and and current voter registration, this data should be highly correlated, so I am not surprised at all if Keshel would find the same.

So now both have proven that there is a high correlation between an older census and voter registration or in other words people around 40 will likely be registered to vote ten years later when they are around 50.
Completely missing here any proof of voter fraud.

More than that for sure.
These are not random variables Frank correlates here.
So Frank found out that if you lived in district in Pennsylvania 10 years ago, there is a very high probability that you are a registered voter there nowadays.
What correlation would you expect would you expect for that if not something just below 1?
On Youtube is a comment saying a non-manipulated district should show a systematically different behavior if there is anything to Frank´s idea. While this still would *proof* nothing, it is a good starting point, as it can show that Frank´s indicator is useless if there is no such thing.. which seems to be he case.

Well, Frank did use two 2010 census data in that youtube video, a “district consensus” which was a rather smooth curve and a scaled down state consensus which showed that 3 little peaks he later so obsessed about.

Either way, the opinion form that youtube commenter seems still good. Can Frank´s analysis detect any difference between districts he claims to be manipulated and others or not?
If not his analysis seems insensitive to pick up fraud.
As to these missing features in some curves I am inclined to claim that he does not understand what exactly the data shows or artifacts stemming from his novel, unique and very untested analysis rather than a *proof* of anything.

In 2016, Pennsylvania kept counting and counting until Michigan was declared thus putting Trump across the line. Michigan declared because they had run out of votes to count – there wasn’t enough registered voters who had not voted left to stuff Hillary to the lead. Pennsylvania though, they still had lists of voter registrations that had not been marked off.

The FBI have already been outed as a corrupt group of brown nosers carrying water for the progressives and the Marxists. No one trusts them now. They weren’t even very good at their espionage. They were caught in the act.

True, they are, but look at who and what is running the government. If Trump had had his second term they would have been on his hit list. I think he would have got them back doing their job instead of carrying water for the Democrats. If Stalin had proved anything it was that no one and nothing can escape serious scrutiny.

on one hand he wants clean electricity and banning Exploration
on the other hand he is begging Saudi to increase supplies

He obviously has nothing between the ears to comprehend that it does not matter where the oil comes from it still produces CO2 and it actually requires all that energy to transport it from the Middle East

His team doesn’t want “clean” energy. They want to promote the solar, wind, and electric vehicle scams.

Coal and natural gas and nuclear are as or MORE “clean.” And they cover their costs of production and maintenance with a fair market price.

I’ll believe it when I see it. Romney may decide he needs to help the dems “save the planet” before he decides to retire from politics, to as they always say, “spend more time with my family”.

No one is fooled. It’s clean electricity, as in Green energy, and Green agenda, as in… well, green.

I would not count the “progressive” (i.e. Marxist) wing of the Democrat party out just yet. They have control, and they play the long game. Witness Obamacare. The Dems are not afraid to commit short term electoral suicide to advance leftism, since they know that the Republicans are too corrupt and/or feckless to roll back anything.

That said, a Youngkin victory over McAuliffe next Tuesday would probably be enough of a shock to kill the Biden agenda (or the agenda of whomever it is running the executive branch). Not that I realistically expect the D to lose Virginia.

Stop using the term “clean electricity” to describe wind and solar. Don’t buy into the garbage language the Left uses to sell their Trojan Horse.

Behind those wind turbines and blades and solar PV panels are mountains upon mountains of coal burned in China for each.
There is nothing “fossil fuel free” sustainable about claimed sustainable wind and solar electricty production machines.

Probably the best outcome for the Democrats. $4-to-$5 gas, 2x natural gas rates, propane shortages and brownouts-to-blackouts along with another >5% inflation hit would finish the Democrats for at least a decade.

John, sadly you are correct. At this moment in time citizens of the U.S. are still to comfortable. Even when $5 gas, 2x NG and 5% inflation hits, most will still have the money to survive. What will spark the revolt will be when, through bad leftist policy, energy supplies are interrupted. Nothing will piss off the people more, that having money to fill the gas tank, heat homes, keep the lights on, buy food etc. all while the leftist keeps those things from the market.

I hope this makes sense.

I leave the Trump stuff out. The ‘It’s dead Jim’ stuff is dead no matter what, for many GND reasons:
high cost
intermittency
no grid inertia

No technical salvation is possible.

Too close a margin for my liking. Remember when the Kyoto protocol vote was 100% against? We’re sleeping while the enemy is actively plotting.

Meh… Even in backwards America, renewables will increase their use… bill or no bill

Only if the government subsidies are carried on. Without the subsidies, there is no ‘renewable’ energy.

My State of Oklahoma stopped paying subsidies to windmill farms last year.

The windmill farms still get federal subsidies, but nothing from Oklahoma tax payers.

There wouldn’t be any windmill farms, if not for government subsidies. Windmill farms cannot stand on their own economically. They would go broke without subsidies.

Windmills should be rejected as a power source.

You guys are forgetting one important thing: the North American continent has a flyway pattern for all birds migrating south, from way up in Canada and down to where I live. This includes geese and ducks, which are game birds that hunters and photographers are after. I have plenty of photos of migrating flocks that take off from Lake Koshkonong and other places and stop over near where I live.

If those effing bird beaters go up, they’ll be planted right smack in the middle of the flyways and will kill off more of the migrating flocks than any hunter/s ever thought of in their wildest dreams.

I’m referring not only to game birds but also to the smaller species like songbirds. Yes, cardinals stay around here in the winter to mooch off of me and other birdwatchers, along with sparrows and juncos and a large number of other species, but many smaller birds as well as the geese and ducks and even corvids (among all the other winged critters) still go south to greener pastures.

The more that crap can be squelched into nonexistence – by whatever means it takes – the BETTER. I despise this pellmell rush to destroy wildlife.

Wind turbines kill migrating birds. PERIOD. I want it stopped!!!!!!!

Does anyone have any questions?

Here in Colorado Springs, Colorado Springs Utilities recently shuttered one of its two remaining coal-fired plants and converted it to natural gas. This is after they spent a ton of money installing a device to greatly reduce air pollution from the exhaust from burning coal. They said the price of coal was greatly increasing, whereas natural gas prices are relatively stable. Now I’m hearing that we should be prepared for a large increase in utility prices due to increase in natural gas prices. Meanwhile, they stop itemizing on monthly utility statements — our City Council had voted an extra charge of $25 a month to pay for the big spike in natural gs prices during the storm in Texas last spring.

A climate marketing spin product never actually dies, it is refabricated to placate the advocacy lobby. And in all cases the ratepayers, taxpayers, and non-agenda science are left out of the equation. Thank you Sen. Manchin for answering to your state and in turn the whole country. We also appreciate the fact that research in WV detected the VW diesel cheating that EPA and other agenda pushers missed.

Clean energy? OK, how about Gen III and Gen IV nuclear plants?

Once built and commissioned they would have zero carbon output, can provide a steady electrical output (as compared to solar and wind) and do so regardless of the sun, wind, and weather. They can provide 100% of plate capacity around the clock for years at a time. They also take up a very small fraction of the land area equivalent solar and wind generation facilities require.

Manchin is probably welcome in the Republican party at this point in time.

Mike Lindell is taking his election fraud case to the supreme court just prior to Thanksgiving so the Biden rein may end sooner than we think.

Senator Joe Manchin is up for re-election in 2022, and he knows he’d be toast if he voted for the Green New Deal, while representing a state full of coal miners. The other Senator from West Virginia, Shelley Moore Capito, was re-elected in 2020 as a Republican with about 70% of the vote. They are both loyal defenders of Old King Coal. President Trump also got about 68% of the vote in West Virginia in 2020.

The so-called Green New Deal is a redux from 2010, when the Democrats wanted to do cap-and-trade on permits to emit CO2. The Democrats had 60 senators (filibuster-proof) at the time, but there were so many coal-state Democrats that voted against it that it didn’t even get 50 votes in the Senate. Three of those coal-state Democrats from 2010 are still in the Senate now (Jon Tester of Montana, Bob Casey of Pennsylvania, and Sherrod Brown of Ohio), and may also want to strip the Green New Deal out of the “reconciliation” bill if Manchin folds.

Joe Biden trying to pledge CO2 emission reductions in Glasgow is like a knight without shining armor, or a horse.
