Chinese President Xi Jinping has called climate change a “wake-up call … to mankind” in a speech delivered less than a week before the COP26 talks begin in Glasgow.
The declaration came as China’s delegation for the high- stakes summit received final instructions before flying to London on Tuesday and as Beijing’s official mouthpiece, the People’s Daily, called the policy to achieve a carbon peak a “major strategic decision”.
“Climate change is a wake-up call from nature to mankind,” Mr Xi said on Monday in a speech marking 50 years since China joined the UN.
Beijing is attempting to shore up the climate change credentials of its supreme leader ahead of the summit at which the world’s biggest emitter is under pressure to increase the size and hasten the pace of its carbon cuts.
China’s leader will not physically attend the UN-backed talks in Glasgow, which run for a fortnight from Sunday.

They are consistent. China has always agreed that Climate Change is important and urgent and that the West must do something about it, now!
And also that China must do something about it, later.

Once we get from the eternal threats that “it will soon be too late” to “it is now too late”, we can stop pretending that we can control climate and get our resources around adaptation and resilience which will have some benefit.

Not surprising that the COVID thugs of Australian media love Xi. They would clearly like his style of government followed in Australia.
The interesting thing is that the covid vax is not compulsory in China and Russia. I have friends in China who work side by side with the unvaxxed and there is no problem or coercion.
I’m aware of that, Putin has made some good moves over the years, his pro-growth policies have delivered real benefits. And China gets a lot of things right.
There is just one thing missing from Russia, which is holding Russia back.
I remember a story years ago, Putin wanted to leverage Russia’s enormous mineral and fossil fuel wealth to make Moscow a major world banking centre, like London or New York.
So he invited a large group of bankers to Moscow to discuss relocating, offering promises of favourable tax treatment and relocation assistance.
After the main event, an emissary of Putin visited each of the bankers individually, and assured them if they had any difficulties with the mafia, they could contact him personally and he would sort them out.
Here’s a riddle for you Alexy – why didn’t the bankers accept Putin’s offer? I’ll give you a clue, it was not because the bankers were worried about the mafia.
Russia is corrupt. When dealing with Government agencies you can’t be sure if you are dealing with the mafia. It’s highly unstable and needs a strong man in charge.
Surprisingly corruption wasn’t the big problem. London and New York have corruption issues.
The issue was rule of law.
The banks can tolerate a level of corruption, they might even see a little corruption as beneficial, easier access to permits, but the one thing the banks fear more than almost anything else is all the wealth they control being at the mercy of one person’s good will.
If Putin’s emissary had offered a new, well funded regulatory regime, a commitment to sound institutional oversight, run by an independent committee of people the banks thought were credible, some of them might have accepted his offer.

Kudrin is still an important advisor to the present Russian government and highly respected, as he is usually right.
I believe China presents itself as a technocracy to academics. The lure to Western academia is if Western systems of government were more like the Chinese system, Western academics would have more say over the running of their countries.
The truth of course is the people with real power in Communist Chinese society are mostly descendants of Mao’s inner circle. And academics in China who forget their place are punished. But compliant academics who help the government may get a few crumbs, or even aa slice of the pie if they are especially useful to the people in charge.
Typical China rhetoric saying what the world wants to hear, not what it will do. One Western trait well taken advantage of by China is virtue signaling. It will continue doing what it pleases.

It will come as a surprise how suddenly the entire climate bandwagon with its monstrous machinery, a nightmare circus 🤡, will simply vanish without trace. Like waking from a weird and slightly disturbing dream – and quickly forgetting the dream itself.
The measurements are in – showing that in the year 2020 of global lockdown, CO2 emission did not only fail to show the tiniest slow-down, the tiniest trace of the apparently huge reduction in transport and industrial emissions. It even rose to a record high.
This fact – which the media have not held back from publicising, is a stake through the heart of the “rough beast, its hour come round at last, (that) slouches towards Bethlehem to be born.” It’s hour has come and gone. The falcon spirals back closer in and returns to the arm of the falconer. Things stop falling apart, the center might hold after all.
It will take some time for this portentous fact to be digested and absorbed – but not too much time. The huge changes to lifestyle, the silencing of daily rush hour traffic and the stilling of many wheels of machinery. All the unprecedented painful stoppage of our energy fuelled lives in the move, the months on end not using the car, just looking through those home windows from the inside, the odd walk in the park. A stop to airliners, ferries, trains. All for absolutely and precisely nothing!? No tiniest trace of a dent in growth of atmospheric CO2?
The climate bandwagon is – to mix metaphors horribly – a headless chicken. Already the signs are multiplying that COP26, the upcoming climate jamboree in Glasgow U.K., will be a fiasco and a damp squib. Leader after leader are declining the invitation. Funding pledges are sliding into the future and evaporating. This is just the start.
Snow ❄️ will likely give a dusting to COP26 in Glasgow as yet another winter of unstable Arctic jet stream and polar vortex wheels around icy air from the Arctic, Scandinavia and the east to the U.K. and Western Europe. Surveying this scene delegates will struggle to remind themselves what they are doing there.
If the global pandemic made not the smallest dent in CO2 emissions, people will realise that nothing short of a global disaster movie scenario, a Mad Max or I am Legend or Children of Men, or dozens of shoddy dystopian end-of-world movies, with decimation of the world’s population, will have a chance to make a measurable impact on the rate of rise of CO2. Let alone make it fall. And inexorably, people will ask themselves – are we really willing to pay that price to prevent CO2 from boosting plant growth and – maybe – slightly warming a glacial climate? Destroy the human race to save it? I don’t think so.

One can only hope. Never underestimate the fascist will power and willingness to lie and destroy peoples lives.
But I do see some difficult scenarios for the alarmists.
Suppose massive cuts in fossil fuels are actually implemented. Suppose the CO2 does not decline? How will they justify all the hardships and suffering if the Keeling curve is not bent down? They will say to wait, be patient as gia takes time to fix itself. Or will they fake the data?
Suppose the Keeling curve changes slope, bending downward. What if the temperature continues to rise as before? How will they justify all the hardships and suffering? Or will they fake the data?
And what if climate gets very cold (which might happen anyway)? How will they justify the deaths in the cold as energy poverty darkens our country?

My generation (I was born in1973) were led to believe that the Cold War would end in one giant nuclear holocaust. We were taught to live in fear.
And what happened? The Soviet system that had dominated Europe for half a century just fizzled out. The Berlin Wall suddenly came down and the USSR faded away. We were shocked by the anticlimax.
And so I think it will be with CAGW – it will just fizzle away:

He wants “The West” to cut their own throats.
That would be in the best interest of Red China.
He simply wants the West to keep saving the planet by continuing to (foolishly) buy made in China solar panels. He has to provide the energy intensive products every modern society requires; now that the West is more interested in virtue signaling than jobs, tax base and profits. He told us, earlier this year, that wind and solar are unreliable and that for now coal is required. “We have no choice”. He’s given himself an exemption, and he has every right plus the economic might to do so. Meanwhile, we can wave our made in China virtue signaling flags.
I didn’t read it like that at all. It seems to be purely ‘factual’ reporting, you know, like the old days that only Pepperidge Farm remembers.
It was pretty obvious to me that the author was gently sneering at Xi and the various Chinese spokesmen for claiming to be saviours while being the biggest emitters of CO2. Perhaps I read it incorrectly?
The author put the nice bit first, which IMO tilts the article towards mild praise. But I agree it could be interpreted differently.
I think it depends on what weight you assign to words versus actions.
In the case of Xi, the words and actions seem a tad incongruent.
If only COP26 would become a wake-up call to mankind, people could begin to notice the enormous amount of wool that is being pulled over their eyes in the name of Climate.
As a developing country, how do they get from the UN climate finance fund?
As a creditor country, the plan is China lends $100 billion per year to western nations, who immediately gift the principle back to China as “climate development finance”. Then the Western nations repay the loan to China which they just gave back as a gift.

I agree! And we, the west, are about to position ourselves in the same looser role when it comes to Taiwan. A lot of initial insurance about help – but with no real commitment/intention to follow through when the going gets… One can only hope that the taiwanese people know that.
There are several current pertinent rumors about Taiwan:
That U.S. Special Forces are currently in Taiwan training the Taiwanese military in U.S. tactics.

I have no idea what Biden would do if the Chicoms attacked Taiwan. I assume he will cut and run like he has done every time he gets in such a situation, such as South Vietnam, and Iraq and Afghanistan. Biden was involved in running away from all those committments, which literally has ruined, and will ruin, the lives of millions of innocent people. Biden is a walking disaster for humanity.

We want to save the planet and our factories are preparing to increase production of wind turbine and solar components using electricity from the hundreds of new coal fired power stations our nation is constructing.

If COP26 becomes a wake-up call, a sign or proof of something, it will be as a wake up call to government stupidity, corruption and contempt for the plight of the middle and poorer classes.
President Xi is playing the world like puppets. He has managed to get most countries to become top down centrally controlled so that they can ‘control’ a virus which was made more scary with the curated TV footage that came out of China of ‘dead’ bodies, people in full PPE, people being dragged out of their houses and lockdowns, while telling everyone that this is the only way to do it. Of course frightened people then demanded that their own governments do the same and lock themselves down with draconian rules, because that is what the Chinese did, and they said it worked, and the UN said it worked, and Bill Gates says everyone must be vaccinated, and a Chinese doctor says natural immunity won’t work because it’s unscientific and inhuman.
China will build a further 200 coal fired power stations on top of the 1000+ that it has, and this may increase further because of recent blackouts. They produce most of the worlds goods and most of the world’s steal. They know that western populations have become passive sentimental consumers and respond easily to strong imagery, especially climate change which is a favourite of western sentimentalists.
For context, China is where the Tiananmen Square Massacre took place, the annexation of Tibet and the ongoing persecution of the Uyghurs.
It should ne a wake up call to mankind that the governments are trying to kill us.

The book America against America from 1991 by ¨grey eminence¨ Wang Huning who just happens to be Xi’s main ideas strategist. According to Revolver only Wokeness was not anticipated then, and China is dealing now with that.
The main lesson America needs to learn is to never allow socialism or authoritarianism to take over the nation.

Maybe Xi Jinping was not talking to people. but to heaven? China’s weather of the past two years suggests he has lost the mandate of heaven. So maybe he was showing some contrition to whichever gods overlook China?
Yes, there are hints that all is not well in the Chicom leadership. Xi is not seen as the Golden Boy by some of his peers.
The world should boycott the Chicom Olympic Games and give those in China who oppose Xi a chance to oust him from power. His rivals can blame Xi for foisting the Wuhan virus on the world, and for the human rights abuses occurring under Xi’s leadership, and for the loss of the Olympic Games.

China’s long term energy strategy is to rapidly build coal-fired capacity for the next 10~15 years, and then decommission their older coal-fired plants and replace them with new Thorium MSRs which China predicts will become available in the early 2030’s (theoretically capable of producing power at $0.03/kWh)…
