Climate scientist Steven E. Koonin will join President Daniels for an hour-long conversation on the current state of climate science in Stewart Center’s Fowler Hall. A book signing for Koonin’s latest publication, “Unsettled: What Climate Science Tells Us, What It Doesn’t, and Why It Matters,” will be held in Stewart Center 206 at 5:45 p.m. The first 25 attendees will receive a free copy of his book.

Steven E. Koonin

Koonin is a professor at New York University, where he founded NYU’s Center for Urban Science and Progress, which focuses research and education on the acquisition, integration and analysis of big data for big cities. He served as undersecretary for science in the U.S. Department of Energy under President Obama from 2009 to 2011, and in 2011 was lead author of both the U.S. Department of Energy’s Strategic Plan and the inaugural Department of Energy Quadrennial Technology Review. Prior to that, he was chief scientist at BP and a professor of theoretical physics at Caltech. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and JASON, an independent group of scientists which advises the U.S. government on matters of science and technology.

The problem is that the first 25 attendees will be nutters trying to silence and cancel him.

They will burn his book.

He’ll be lucky if they don’t try to put him in the middle of the pile.

From Koonin’s book blurb (author unknown):

… The climate is changing …

In itself an unremarkable statement, the converse would be.

… if necessary, geoengineering will ensure humanity continues to prosper …

Lord no, a quote from Sir Robert Hutchison renown Scottish physician:

From inability to let well alone;

from too much zeal for the new and contempt for what is old;

from putting knowledge before wisdom, science before art, and cleverness before common sense;

from treating patients as cases;

and from making the cure of the disease more grievous than the endurance of the same,

Good Lord, deliver us”.

Great quote! Thanks. Koonin’s book is excellent, well written and should be read by everyone interested in climate, particularly those of the alarmist persuasion

I thought Koonin’s treatment of CO2 truly sucks …. his nonsense about Heat Spectrum / Color really is terrible – Around page 53 in his book. That section should be rewritten IMO.

Even for WUWT, an impressive rate of inaccuracy- the very first sentence. “Climate scientist Steven E. Koonin” he is not a climate scientist. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_E._Koonin

But maybe avoid facts- they have a well known liberal bias.

If you want to be that picky, you should have started with there being no such thing as a “client scientist”, since the only ones recognized by the greenies are the frauds who kiss political ass.

If it’s settled, it ain’t science.
If it’s science, it ain’t settled.

Steven E. Koonin” he is not a climate scientist.

If he is a scientist and is addressing climate in his work, he’s a climate scientist … it’s that broad of a description.

97% of Green Agenda Clowns aren’t climate scientists, yet you listen to them

Even Wiki acknowledges Koonan

“Koonin joined BP as their chief scientist, where he was responsible for guiding the company’s long-range technology strategy, particularly in alternative and renewable energy sources.”

Tony, where can I find your book on the subject? Or any subject for that matter?

Ah yes, the usual climate hypochondriac’s go-to phrase “he’s not a climate scientist”.

If Gavin Schmidt from NASA GISS, who has a PhD in applied mathematics, can be called a ‘climate scientist’, then so can a person who has a PhD in theoretical physics (Koonin).

Koonin has more knowledge about climate science in his little finger than you and your ilk have in what passes for your brains.

Tony, let me help you out, it is quite simple. Climate changes constantly, always has and always will, human are not causing it to change and can not stop it from changing. CO2 is not pollution it is plant food, more CO2 more plants and more oxygen and more food and more lumber and on and on ad infinitum. The fact you refuse to accept reality and live in a constant state of hysterical panic tells us far more about you than your lie spew does. Your welcome.

You people never change, pathetic creatures.
The ENTIRE basis of climate models is physics, and Koonin literally wrote textbooks on physics as well as having vast experience in modeling.

Ie: he is more of a climate scientist than most of the climate scientologists.

Now I’m sure you will agree that Gavin Schmidt, being a mathematician is not a climate scientologist and so should be fired from the NOAA?

If not, you should just go far away.

Tony: “climate science” can consist of studying fossil tree rings, the physics of atmospheric infra-red absorption, meteorology, computer modelling….etc etc.

These four people in conversation in a room together would hardly have a clue about the others’ field of expertise if they talked about it.

It’s only quite recently that degree courses in “climate science” have been available.

Alex Epstein had a zoom discussion with Koonin a few weeks ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qIf0m3FFxY&t=1849s

Thanks for the information.
The links given are also for PCs and not just mobile devices…
Agree on Tony’s nit so typical of uneducated green nutheads to focus on whether his qualifications allow him to be called a climate scientist. 95% of the green movement are not climate scientists and 30% probably do not have any education or training at all in basic physics and chemistry.

@Danley Wolfe Hell, I was trained as a Psychologist — and I can tell you, the logic and the sham statistics published by these meat heads would cause them to flunk a sophomore Psych stats class, If not outright be expelled. BUT that was 20 years ago. Clearly, attributes like Academic Integrity have completely gone by the way side.
