Failed Serial Doomcasters

Guest Post by Willis Eschenbach [note update at the end]

According to the UN’s MyWorld poll of seven million people in 194 countries, out of the sixteen possibilities climate action came out … wait for it … dead last.

In general, the only people who thought it was important were the perpetually offended white wokerati with pronouns …

Why is it that rational folks around the planet put the priority of climate action so low? Well, first off, there are serious issues out there that affect us today—affordable food, jobs, healthcare, reliable energy for farmers and householders, real stuff, not a bunch of climate blowhards screaming that the sky is falling.

And the second reason is, folks know in their heart of hearts that science is all about making falsifiable predictions … and in that regard, climate science is a dumpster fire.

So I thought I’d take a look at what climate scientists, and those who believe climate scientists, and governments, and the UN, have predicted about the future. We’ll start with this classic:

Yeah, right, that hasn’t aged well … here’s another classic from the UN. They predicted 50 million climate refugees by 2010 … and when the real number was, well, zero, they tried to cover it up.

So to cut to the chase, here without comment and in no particular order are predictions from various climatastrophists:

Shot from Al Gore, 2006:

Chaser from Al Gore, 2018:

And finally, my personal favorite because it’s so much more precise than the others … 7 years, 98 days, 15 hours to save the planet.

Given that, only someone with pronouns could continue to think that these folks are serious. So why do the scientists involved continue to flog this dead horse?

The answer was given by Upton Sinclair, who said:

It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon his not understanding it!

Yep. The answer is money. And it’s not just the scientists, the UN, and the media who have been seduced by it. The cartoonist Josh has looked at the end series of UN “COP” get-togethers, with the upcoming one being COP26 … I figure COP stands for “Corrupt Oligarchs’ Party”, but hey, that’s just me. In any case, Josh has seen to the heart of the matter.

And those, dear friends, are among the many reasons that the world, or at least the sane portion thereof, puts climate action at the very bottom of their priority list.

My best to all, I’m gonna go outdoors and enjoy the climate on a lovely autumn day,

w.

PS—Please don’t bother pointing out that these are not all scientists. If influential lay people make colossal bogus scientific misstatements, it’s up to the scientists to not stay quiet. Silence in that case is not golden. It is support for scientific malfeasance.

UPDATE—A Looney Old Lady (her screen name) on Twitter pointed this out to me, too good to leave out:

THE GREENS’ PREDICTIVE CLIMATE AND ENERGY RECORD IS THE WORST
The ability to predict is the best objective measure of scientific and technical competence.

Climate doomsters have a perfect NEGATIVE predictive track record – every very-scary climate prediction, of the ~80 they have made since 1970, has FAILED TO HAPPEN.

“Rode and Fischbeck, professor of Social & Decision Sciences and Engineering & Public Policy, collected 79 predictions of climate-caused apocalypse going back to the first Earth Day in 1970. With the passage of time, many of these forecasts have since expired; the dates have come and gone uneventfully. In fact, 48 (61%) of the predictions have already expired as of the end of 2020.”

To end 2020, the climate doomsters were proved wrong in their scary climate predictions 48 times – at 50:50 odds for each prediction, that’s like flipping a coin 48 times and losing every time! The probability of that being mere random stupidity is 1 in 281 trillion! It’s not just global warming scientists being stupid.

These climate doomsters were not telling the truth – they displayed a dishonest bias in their analyses that caused these extremely improbable falsehoods, these frauds.

There is a powerful logic that says no rational person or group could be this wrong for this long – they followed a corrupt agenda – in fact, they knew they were lying.

The global warming alarmists have a NO predictive track record – they have been 100% wrong about every scary climate prediction – nobody should believe them.

The radical greens have NO credibility, make that NEGATIVE credibility – their core competence is propaganda, the fabrication of false alarm.

It’s like watching one of those bobblehead toys: as with the impending doom of an out of control train flying down the tracks, you can’t take your eyes off it, but you really don’t want to look. So you do… and then you wish you hadn’t… and then you look again… and you fall down laughing until your stomach hurts… because the train was really made of cookie dough and frosting and you still get to have one with your hot cocoa…..

Why haven’t these Mavens of Doom done any forecasting on the Atlantic ridge zone and the Icelandic and Las Palmas volcanoes having their fun? I mean, that activity alone indicates that the Atlantic basin is (OBVIOUSLY!!!!!) going to crack wide open and the devastation from that alone will End Everything As We Know It!!!!…. or something like that.

Now, that didn’t cost anyone any cash, did it?

If I have to put /sarc on that stuff, I will be SO disappointed….. I may have to send my giant dragonflies to chide you….

Have a nice weekend.

Just take a look at Hollywood.

How many of those willing Weinstein rape victi….celebreties have solar panels on their roofs and ” refugees” inside their homes?
But every single one of them owns a front beach property that was flooded according to Hansen,Mann ,UN already years ago.

There is reality and then there is the Marxist script.
Actors, scientists, politicians know the Marxist script and they know they’ll lose their privileged jobs if they don’t follow the script and tell the opposite = truth..

Officially they are all pro feminists, mee too supporters etc in the real world they all looked away for decades when Weinstein raped,
and they still do in terms of eg. James Toback.

Officially they believe in global warming,in the real world they buy front beach properties and drive fancy fossil cars – except Di Caprio.
His electric super car has the biggest carbon footprint in Hollywood as it is kind of custom prototype made in Japan to carbon shame people
and the feudal 300 feet Super Yacht Di Caprio used during the football world champion ship in brazil wasted during those 3 weeks more fuel than average joe in 10 lifetimes
and is owned by a Saudi Arab Sheikh.
And we all know what a dictatorship Saudi Arabia is, how women are treated there (almost as bad as in Weinsteins Hollywood )
that there is death penalty for gays,
and that blacks are usually called abeed, which means ni…_.!

Everyone knows that one has to be rich to afford living in communism which is now sold as postmodernism.
Only the most equal of animals will be allowed to continue their current lifestyle,
therefore noone wants to lose his privileged place of moral, intellectual and financial supremacy and become part of the 99.9 %.

The crude estimate I have seen is that US, state, local, and federal governments spend $9T a year, 40% of GDP. If half of that is wasted misdirection of free markets, GDP growth would be 20% higher without it. No matter how crude and simplistic that is, it sounds plausibly in the ballpark, especially when you consider how much private spending is wasted getting around government, such as the estimated 6 billion hours people spend figuring out personal income taxes every year.

Reply to  Felix
October 17, 2021 9:10 pm

Free Markets do not impair production in America. Production directly contributes to GDP, from farming and mining right up to sophisticated programs and electronic components production is easily net positive.

As every faux democracy free market set up by communist states have learned, free markets are distinct GDP financial generating engines.

Monopolies, group agreements, socialist efforts, nationalism, government involvement in businesses and government backed inventions, etc. are all huge negatives to GDP as Biden just proved.

Government monitoring, regulation and enforcement produce zero GDP.
EPA? A 100% money sink that frequently destroys entire industries. DOE? Another sink.
IRS is perhaps the worst GDP sink of all; just ask anyone that IRS investigated or prosecuted recently. No matter how right you may have been, the agency has the power of government behind every summons they send. people and businesses accept IRS findings, negotiate a settlement and pay. It’s cheaper than a decade of court cases and endless hearings

Justice department is rapidly following the IRS model..

Nor do you state what $9T a year is spent on, not even at a macro level.

To me that is the entire purpose of Steve Koonin’s book, to refute journalists, activists and government malfeasance of what science there is.

It is comedy to watch the “fact checkers” point out that many of the various points Koonin refutes are false to start with, which to me shows the joke.

These are all lies told by alarmists that the “climate scientists” stay quiet about.

Yes, the politicians like AOC and Kerry keep suspiciously promoting the year 2030 as being the point of no return, but without scientific support for that specific year.

Coincidentally, 2030 is the year that Dr. Landscheidt predicts the upcoming mini ice age will be fully engaged. It makes one suspicious this explains their frantic urgency, for that is when their fraud will be fully exposed.

There is a market for scary stories, with the precise content varying.
Whether it is evangelical Christians following predictions of the Second Coming, or greens and whatever dread threat is about to destroy the environment, the psychological impulse is much the same. Something of a suspension of disbelief, cheering the prophet, and not really changing all that much.

Reply to  Tom Halla

Tom,

Some evangelical Christians have weird ideals about the Second Coming which does not accord with the plain sense of the New Testament. However, the teaching about the second coming is not about a global catastrophe but something more sober and far worse: It is about accountability. It is about a day when all people will be held accountable for all the bad things they have done and for all their failures to do good things. I do not find an emphasis on individual responsibility and accountability coming from the climate alarmists. Prof Jordan Peterson was spot on. If young people do not keep their rooms tidy (also their immediate environment) their protests about everyone else cleaning up the world is worthless.

Um, the second coming of Christ is the antithesis of a scary story, for Christians . . The “psychological impulse” is to look forward to the end of the sort of “fear porn” under discussion here, among many other inhumane and deceitful things “the rulers of this world” engage in.

Also, there is no date attached. It could happen NOW, so be ready at any time. (Some scholars also think Revelations is more likely the result of a bad batch of rye bread; in their view, there will be no such warnings.)

Oh, and there is no such thing as “sin credits” for Christians. That got the Roman Catholic Church into deep trouble a few centuries ago. (Sadly, there are indications that they are reviving that idea these days.)

If there will be no such warnings, why would Jesus say (in Matthew);

Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.” ?

And (in Mark);

“Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.”

And (in Luke);

“Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.”

It seems to me “some scholars” are going to be caught off-guard, so to speak, if they persist in thinking there is going to be nothing one does well to watch for. Not knowing the day or hour, is not the same as not realizing that the time is getting close, as I read the Book.

(And I be watching ; )

PS, I read Revelations as a mixture of metaphorical language with “signs” the “Biblically literate” can grasp the general nature of. Some becoming clearer as the Story unfolds (if one is watching things unfold ; ) and others basically providing some comfort/hope, in the face of what seems truly wrong with the world.

There was no “spell it out clearly” option available, it seems kinda obvious to me, without spilling beans He doesn’t want spilt too soon, so to speak. As someone with a poetic bent, I find the book fascinating, and indicative of just how seriously He takes the situation He has/is putting us in.

‘This is a story that needs to be told’: BBC film tackles Climategate scandal | Climate science denial | The Guardian BBC commissioned Vox Pictures to rewrite history by overturning the reality of ClimateGate.“Twelve years ago, Professor Philip Jones was subject to a barrage of hate mail and death threats that pushed him close to suicide. Emails, hacked from his laboratory, proved climate change research was a fraud, it was claimed.

Now Jones faces a repeat of that grim onslaught when the BBC One film, The Trick, is screened on 18 October. It will tell the story, sympathetically, of his tribulations at the hands of climate change deniers.
“At the time, the mail was awful. Everyone was attacking me and I couldn’t deal with it. I got Christmas cards filled with obscenities and, to this day – on the November anniversary of the hacking – I still get a couple of offensive messages,” Jones told the Observer last week.

“After The Trick is screened I expect there will be a new wave of abuse. However, I accept the risk because this is a story that needs to be told.”
Jones was head of the Climatic Research Unit at East Anglia University in Norwich in 2009 when hackers stole thousands of documents and emails from its computers. Their contents were then carefully selected and used by climate change deniers to promote the idea that scientists were falsely alleging fossil fuel emissions were warming the planet. Subsequent inquiries rejected all these allegations.
“It was a manufactured controversy,” said Owen Sheers, screenwriter of The Trick. “There was a definite strategy at work and a massive disinformation campaign. Yet, when I talk to those who remember any of it now, most still think a scientist really did get caught tweaking the figures.”

The twisted disturbed grotesquely delusional mentality of the BBC has no boundaries, they are determined by any means possible to defy logic rationality science observations fact and history to impose the belief at whatever cost to the people who pay their wages the absolute unadulterated lunacy of living at the whim of Alice in Wonderland fantasists in the belief that there really is a solution to a problem which does not exist which will allow these boneheaded freaks to exist in isolated luxury and comfort whilst everyone else dies in the process of just trying to survive on dead rats and grass.

Shell Energy tried to hike my direct debit from £87/month to £155/month based upon a fantasy prediction that in the remaining two weeks of my current contract I would consume another £527-00 in energy which they did presumably to justify me paying £155 a month when my contract does in fact not end until November 30th.

Imagine Shell is so desperate to preserve its own lunacy of entering the retail energy market based upon lurid accusations from its shareholders that it was not green enough now seeks street corner drug dealer mentality to coerce its customers to cough up huge dollops of cash because most like me have refused to contemplate spending £150,000 to fit heat pumps electric boilers solar panels tesla battery packs and smart meters fronted by Katie O’dwyer who expects to be praised to high heaven because she persuaded her own parents to spend countless thousands to climate proof their own house in order to save the planet. Some lunatic at Shell really did expect to use low pricing to get customers for electricity and gas and then abuse them 24/7 with hectoring phone calls and demented emails about the climate demolition in the expectation that they would joyfully spend money they don’t to make Shells entrance in retail energy a profitable enterprise.

The Guardian’s Andrew Simms 100 months “Countdown to Save the Planet” started in August 2008; we are now 157 months later so the Glasgow COP26 is useless.

It did save the Guardian financially though…

Bernie Retires As His Vision Of Making The U.S. Just Like Venezuela Has Finally Been Realized | The Babylon Bee Lunacy has no bounds. “BURLINGTON, VT—Bernie Sanders has retired as a U.S. Senator as his lifelong vision of making sure that America becomes just like Venezuela and other socialist countries has finally been achieved amid Biden’s supply chain crisis.

“It’s just refreshing to see these empty shelves—reminds me of simpler times visiting Cuba and the Soviet Union back in my heyday,” he said to himself as he took a stroll through his local grocery store. He stopped by the deodorant aisle and smiled. “Not a single stick of deodorant to choose from. My work here is done.”

“I’m glad I can finally turn in my Senator’s badge and gun, resting easy in the knowledge that the United States is in good hands. We’ll be eating dogs before you know it.”

Sanders says he now takes a refreshing morning walk through the grocery store every morning, taking deep breaths as he admires the empty bread shelves, reminding him of the halcyon days. “We’ve gotta keep Biden in office so it can be like this all the time.”

There must be laws which the BBC and the media are in breach of. Tesco were fined £30,000 for misrepresenting the price of a punnet of strawberries so how come it is possible for the Guardian and the BBC to lie cheat and deceive 24/7 but be beyond the law. If I could find out what laws they are in breach of then I would put my hand in pocket and sue but I am sure I don’t have enough. These idiots are beyond reality. No fossil fuels no NHS. The British Government, several years ago, gave an instruction to all managers and employees of the BBC that the science was settled and on pain of dismissal they were not to allow anything contradicting CAGW to be broadcast, and, since the Goverment funds the BBC, they have complied.
So it is the Government’s fault, not the BBC’s.

There’s also another poll. The monthly Gallup “Most Important Problem” poll has been running for a long time. Currently, “Environment/Pollution/Climate change” is running at 4%. ie. 4% of people think the environment is the nation’s most important problem. It’s not nothing, but five times that many think fixing the government is the greatest problem. That’s the bunch I’m with for sure. I heard David Legates’ talk this morning. He said that calling Washington a swamp is seriously wrong and an insult to swamps everywhere. Yep. There many many stories with the same theme. As the Gallup poll points out, people notice that kind of thing.

If you understand how that reflective panel propped on the dash or those draperies on the glass patio door work and can balance your checkbook you know all you need to know to see through the greenhouse non-effect and all the hysterical crap stacked on top.

Remove the Earth’s atmosphere or even just the GreenHouse Gases and it becomes much like the Moon, an arid, barren rock ball with no water vapor, clouds, snow, ice or oceans, no more 30% albedo, hot^3 (400 K) on the lit side, cold^3 (95 K) on the dark.
That is NOT what Radiative GreenHouse Effect theory says.
It is what Nikolov, Kramm, and UCLA Diviner say.

The K-T diagram (TFK_bams90) counts 63 W/m^2 upwelling Long Wave InfraRed twice: 160 – 17 – 80 = 63 once and 396 – 333 = 63 second. Laws of Thermo 1 allows only one, the real one from the sun. Erase the 396/333/63 from the graphic, the balance is unaffected and the GHG warming loop disappears.
342 arrives from the sun, net albedo 70% or 240 makes it into the atmosphere, net/net 160 arrives at the surface. Per LoT1 160 is ALL!! that can leave. The 396 is “extra” appearing out of nowhere.
The 396 is a theoretical “What if?” calculation for a Black Body at 16 C serving as the denominator of the emissivity ratio: 63/396=0.16. IR instruments do not measure power flux, they measure temperature and infer W/m^2 by assuming emissivity and assuming 1.0 or .95 is assuming wrong.

As demonstrated by experiment the surface cannot and does not radiate as a BB and as such there is no “extra” energy for the GHGs to warm or do whateveh.
For the experimental write up see:
https://principia-scientific.org/debunking-the-greenhouse-gas-theory-with-a-boiling-water-pot/

ZERO RGHE, ZERO GHG warming, ZERO CAGW or CO2 driven climate change.

Nick, I would simplify it much more. The “flat earth” model is a model. How good is it? For radiation we have to use the absolute temperature, measured in degrees Kelvin. The average temperature of the Earth’s surface is approximately 300 Kelvin. An error of 1% is 3 K, or about 5 degrees Fahrenheit. To get the temperature with an accuracy of 1 degree Fahrenheit, the model must be accurate to 0.2%. This model is a way too crude to achieve that.

Dividing the ISR of 1,368 by 4 = 342 averages that ISR over the spherical ToA like a ball suspended in and evenly warmed in a bucket of warm poo.
That is not even remotely how the Earth is heated.
ALL of the ISR heats the lit hemisphere alone and the OLR leaves in all directions 24/7.

But it’s Trenberth’s model.
It and all of its clones contain egregious bookkeeping and thermodynamic errors.
They are the basis of the radiative greenhouse effect.
They and it are all trash.
All 3 decades worth.

The October weather outside my coastal California home is gorgeous, just as it ever was. My family has lived here for over 150 years and stories about Thanksgiving dinners outside when my parents were young were common. We could use some rain though.

I thought 30 years of weather was the period for climate, so we are now past the initial period of James Hansen’s warnings. But I dont see much of anything different. So I think I’ll go outside and pick some tomatoes in my greenhouse – yes, they still grow better inside a greenhouse where its warmer.

Well, Jimmy Hansen said a few years ago, you can’t rule out a 30yr cooling period, following the precipitous drop from the peak of the el Niño that temporarily ended the “DreadedPause”. His successor as head of GISS, Gavin Schmidt, a climate modeler, perhaps taking his cue from Jim, or feeling the need to plan an exit strategy after following Monckton’s new Pause reports. Stated that Models are running too hot, and something has to be done about it! Hmmm, what might that be? Their forecasted warming proved to be 300% too hot. Options are few:

a) multiply their sacred formula by a Le Châtelier coefficient of 0.33 which chops Climate Sensitivity to size and gives an answer matching observations.
b) switch cloud feedbacks to negative à la climate engine governor, or thermostat and reduce the effect of aerosols

Unfortunately this makes CO2 fully benign and makes its effect essentially all beneficial with Global Greening and burgeoning harvests, i.e. game over after the class action for trillions in damages, wrongful dismissal, scientific malfeasance, slander, interference in fossil fuels business and financing ….

Wow. Just wow. A plethora of bodacious stupidity all collected into one spot, and I am a witness to it. (Yes, I know I posted something earlier, but this is the 2nd time I looked at that stuff and my reaction to it was “Eeeewwww!”)

Good thing I lived in Chicago for 30 years, isn’t it? I think it made me immune to Da Stoopid posted above in that article.

What was that story about the boy who cried “Wolf!”, again? Didn’t the wolf eat the shepherd, or something like that?

Okay, I will state my take on The Planet’s Climate here: It is temperate, habitable, and a pleasant place to live. We have weather that gives us rain, snow, ice storms, tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, blizzards, mild winter weather, bitterly cold winter weather, droughts, fog, and four seasons that occur on a recurring basis. We can barely make vaguely accurate weather forecasts, so forecasting long range stuff like REAL climate change (which we won’t see in our lifetimes) is a fantasy and not much else.

We puny humans can’t even control our own silly desires or GI tracts, so how in the blinkin’ blue-eyed world does anyone expect me to believe we can exercise control over anything on this planet? Can any of you stop a volcano from erupting? Anyone? Bueller?

We succeeded Heidelberg man and Neanderthal man and several others, and we’re about all that is left of all the other primate hominids like us, but we think we can control something that doesn’t give a flying frack in space about whether or not we continue to exist???

Come to think of it, we might actually be like the dinosaurs that survived the Great Lizard Extinction: the last of our kind. We should be more alert…. or something.

There are a few good quotes from movies. This is one of them, from the movie “Wolf”:

Will Randall:
I’ve never loved anybody this way. Never looked at a woman and thought, if civilization fails, if the world ends, I’ll still understand what God meant.

You all have a good weekend, and if you get a chance, play that song Bad Moon Rising, by Credence Clearwater Revival. Fogerty claims the song is about “the apocalypse that was going to be visited upon us”.

The Final Nail,
You are showing us a graph from woodfortrees.org for UAH6 for 2002 going forward.
Would you now click on “Notes” and scroll down to “Temperature trends-Pick a timescale, any timescale!”
Now read,
“Depending on your pre-conceptions,by picking your start and end dates carefully, you can now ‘prove’ that:
.Temperature is falling!
.Temperature is static!
.Temperature is rising!
Temperature is rising really fast!”
There then follows the composite graph of 8 gauges from 1979 to date,(including your UAH6) followed by-
“If you look at the trend data you can see the current trends in degrees C, between 0.13-0.17C/ decade,or,if it continues at the same rate, between 1.3C and 1.7C per century.”
You have established the case that there is almost certainly no “way more” than 0.2 C temperature rise per decade “over the next two decades” from 2007 as all gauges are now showing a New Pause from 2016 to date.
There is no indication that the ‘current trends’ will be other than the indicated rate.

USA has a net international position of minus USD15tr – almost 1 year GDP. The indebtedness to the rest of the world is currently increasing at almost USD200bn per quarter.

It would not surprise me if the world, notably China, Russia and EU, stop accepting US paper during the Biden administration. The rest of the world will wake up to the inflationary pressure created by the USA living well beyond its means.

Trump was returning the USA to be self-sufficiency but Biden has changed that where the principal output of the US economy is money. Currently that money is good but there will be a time when it is not accepted.

Biden certainly harmed U.S. credibility in every category, but this should be just a temporary blip. When Biden and the rest of these radical Democrats are thrown out of office, that should instill confidence in others that the U.S. has not completely lost their minds.

Exactly right. They won’t be able to kick this 20-year doomsday prediction down the road. When no disaster shows up, they are going to have to explain why.

October 16, 2021 4:55 pm

Warming the atmosphere 1 deg. C HAS increased the amount of potential moisture that air masses can hold by 7%………all things being equal, so with absolute certainty, heavy rain events have increased by at least that amount.

But the warming has affected the coldest places at the coldest times of year the most, not the topics.
This is mostly BENEFICIAL warming from the beneficial gas, CO2.
If it was getting too hot on the planet, the tropics(hottest places) would be the first places to have crops wrecked from excessive heat right?

This graph of the real data says that world crop production in the tropics is not decreasing from global warming but instead is actually accelerating higher, in part BECAUSE OF the benefits from the current climate optimum and increase in the beneficial gas, CO2 by atmospheric fertilization.

C’mon people, how much longer are you going to let them convince you that we are living in a climate crisis using DISinformation/junk science?

I dont know about anyone else, but from my perspective here in Australia, I have never seen so much attention focused around global climate alarmism…the business sections in the best paper in Australia are chock full of it as companies announce plans to mitigate carbon…the political stories are full of it and then you have the opinion writers who are also full of it ( in more ways than one)…abuse is rife in the comments sections if you don’t agree or point out scientific facts…the energy companies are full of renewable talk…..quite frankly… it is bloody depressing… I thought the truth would always win through ( eventually), but it appears not.

Net-zero is manor from heaven for the Australian economy. A net-zero economy will be of the order of 200 times more material intensive than the current one. That is why it creates so many jobs.

Australia is at the forefront of the supply chain for all the commodities that will be converted to useless junk in the vain hope of extracting useful energy from the weather.

The Mining Council in Australia now employs professional greens to lobby for their cause. BHP tells us it takes 3 tonne of copper for every wind generator and far more steel and concrete. And it ALL does nothing when needed most. So all existing dispatchable plant has to be retained or replaced with newer versions but left idle more often.

ScoMo is under a lot of pressure from the business council to get on board this mammoth resource waster. Get in before the world wakes up that it is unsustainable.

COP26 could be the one where nuclear gets traction. That will be the lesser attractive option than random energy but still a resource hungry transition good for Australian commodities.

We can thank the late British engineer John Bignell for numberwatch.co.uk and ‘The List’ which collects all the 700 plus catastrophic predictions about global warming (many conflicting) some of which are discussed here.
For further amusement see extinctionclock.com showing many failed predictions since 1970.
As far as I can see, out of the ten biblical plagues of Egypt inflicted on the Pharoah, only the Thames(insert your local river)turning red with blood and the Angel of the Lord slaying First Born male children are missing from present threats.

Willis,
not meaning to nitpick or fully contradict you.
But when it comes to false predictions as stated by you, the main clause of scientific falsification is not quite valid.

The main point or clauses of falsification stand in the proposition of a condition that supposes not to happen as per/within a given premise, but in contrary if it does, it renders the premise falsified.

The false predictions more to do with the Null hypothesis.
What supposedly has to happen, under a given premise.

The conditions of false predictions, Technically has more to do with reducing the value, or refusing to add value, to a given premise
(hypothesis, theory, theorem etc.).

🙂

Among those predictions there are some which have been proved wrong because the deadline has been passed and others where the deadline has yet to be reached. For example James Lovelock said that global warming would hit the fan in 2028. Well, he might be wrong but we have to wait another seven years to prove him wrong.

Reply to  Alba
October 17, 2021 9:27 am

No further waiting is necessary. According to Joe Biden and his “climate czar” John Kerry, global warming climate change has already “hit the fan” big time.

Or, in the famous words of H.L. Mencken:
“The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all to them imaginary.”

Willis,
I bet that you do not actually know the very base premise of AGW, as per the scripture of anthropogenic climate.

The accelerative warming of cryosphere.

So, that is why so much push and shoveling towards ice melting and sea level rise… the last standing straw for the holding of anthropogenic climate hypothesis.

A clear signature of cooling of cryosphere will falsify the AGW.

simple as that… the main last fight to day…

I am talking about science, not feelings or presumptions of one or another.

As per standing of climate science there is two falsification clauses, conditions that supposed not to happen, as else the anthropogenic climate science stands falsified;

1- The main one- Departure-decoupling of CO2 concentration trend from the temperature trend or the warming trend.- (the falsification). (the falsification for CC hypothesis)

2- Clear signature or clear signal of cryosphere cooling.
(the falsification of AGW hypothesis).

Yes, true, no body is listening yet, as still hanging on/at the point that AGW hypothesis is not falsified yet.
(Regardless/ignoring the fact, that falsification of CC actually stands as falsification of the whole)

The main point of argument I was having.
As per IPCC AR4.
(The part of the anthropogenic climate science scripture, defining the hypothesis and the corresponding clauses of falsification.)

cheers

whiten,

The cryosphere is, by definition, the part of the earth’s surface characterized by the presence of frozen water.

Most people know that when ice (“frozen water”) melts, or changes from solid ice to liquid water, it does so at a constant temperature of 0 °C (32 °F) even as it absorbs a significant amount of thermal energy.

Therefore, your phrase “accelerative warming of cryosphere” makes absolutely no sense when used in conjunction with ice melting and sea level rise.

“Please don’t bother pointing out that these are not all scientists. ”

None is a direct quote from a scientist, these are more like examples of the sub-editors art. In fact the number of predictions here from the IPCC or the literature is zero. Take the Hansen quote: President ‘has four years to save Earth’. It is not actually a quote as we normally understand the term. If you click through and read the full interview Hansen never uses those words, the closest he comes is:

We cannot now afford to put off change any longer. We have to get on a new path within this new administration. We have only four years left for Obama to set an example to the rest of the world. America must take the lead.

If the point of the piece is the poor state of science journalism – well, no argument here. But if it is an attempt to prove climate science as a discipline is alarmist.

Fail.

October 17, 2021 4:19 pm

And finally, my personal favorite because it’s so much more accurate than the others … 7 years, 98 days, 15 hours to save the planet.

That’s precise, not accurate.

Humans need a cause to fight over
The suffragettes had a valid cause for women voting
The anti nuclear people also had valid cause to limit Nuclear weapons but not nuclear power
now the current generation who have everything so they want to rebel against the world but unfortunately they don’t understand we are living in the best time of human history
If they get their way we will see mass human extinction due to starvation and death from cold not heat
I hope that the idiots learn while we have time to turn back to a sensible energy system

October 17, 2021 7:49 pm

Don’t forget the warnings of Dr. James Hansen!

While doing research 12 or 13 years ago, I met Jim Hansen, the scientist who in 1988 predicted the greenhouse effect before Congress.

I went over to the window with him and looked out on Broadway in New York City and said, “If what you’re saying about the greenhouse effect is true, is anything going to look different down there in 20 years?”

He looked for a while and was quiet and didn’t say anything for a couple seconds. Then he said, “Well, there will be more traffic.” I, of course, didn’t think he heard the question right.

Then he explained, “The West Side Highway [which runs along the Hudson River] will be under water. And there will be tape across the windows across the street because of high winds.

And the same birds won’t be there.

The trees in the median strip will change.”

Then he said, “There will be more police cars.” Why? “Well, you know what happens to crime when the heat goes up.”

Not long after this prediction, at the 10 year anniversary when it was obvious the water wasn’t rising, alarmists put on a full court press where they claimed Hansen was really predicting out 30 years, not 20 years.

At the 20 year anniversary, they again insisted Hansen was really predicting much further into the future. They even got the author of the magazine article to state that Hansen was really answering about 30 years into the future.

That 30th year anniversary passed in 1988.

Hansen in his paper, “Global climate changes as forecast by Goddard Institute for Space Studies three-dimensional model; ‘J. Hansen,I. Fung,A. Lacis,D. Rind,S. Lebedeff,R. Ruedy,G. Russell,P. Stone
Where Hansen made much of 95°F degree days. Another doom prediction that utterly failed.
Washington DC is supposed to have somewhere in the neighborhood of 25.5 95°F days per year.
Hasn’t happened. We were quite skint of 95°F days this year. Nor were they all that abundant over the last decade.

In general, the only people who thought it was important were the perpetually offended white wokerati with pronouns …

I believe this to be true, but I have a “but”. Looking at the My World chart, I see that just about everything above the “Action taken on climate change” line is available to most people in the first world. With notable exceptions, education, jobs, healthcare, clean water, internet access, etc. are not in short supply. Whether you’re a tenured bureaucrat or a skilled tradesman, life is looking OK. Everyone else has higher priorities.
