Greta Thunberg mocks Biden’s ‘Build Back Better’ climate plan

Dylan Stableford·Senior Writer
Sat, September 25, 2021, 2:20 AM

Speaking at a climate rally in Berlin on Friday, Greta Thunberg mocked President Biden’s attempt to address climate change through his “Build Back Better” agenda.

“As we move out of the pandemic, many are talking about using this as an opportunity for a green sustainable recovery, whatever that means,” the 18-year-old Swedish activist said. “And world leaders are talking about ‘building back better,’ promising green investments and setting vague and distant climate targets in order to say that they are taking climate action.”

In his address to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, Biden announced that the United States would double its financial contributions to help developing nations combat and adapt to climate change.

“The fact that we are in a crisis that we cannot build, buy or invest or way out of seems to create some kind of collective mental short-circuit among the people in power,” Thunberg said. “And the longer they pretend that we can solve the climate crisis within today’s system, the more invaluable time we will lose.”

New Zealand Prime Minster Jacinda Ardern also received criticism.

Greta Thunberg takes another swipe at Jacinda Ardern’s response to climate change

By Stuff
2:56pm Sep 26, 2021

Greta Thunberg, the originator of the global School Strike for Climate movement, has taken a fresh swipe at New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern for a lack of action over climate change.

In an interview with The Guardian, Ms Thunberg said she can’t think of any politician who has impressed her.

When asked about Ms Ardern, Ms Thunberg said New Zealand’s greenhouse gas emissions haven’t fallen.

“It’s funny that people believe Jacinda Ardern and people like that are climate leaders. That just tells you how little people know about the climate crisis,” she said.

“Obviously the emissions haven’t fallen. It goes without saying that these people are not doing anything.”

Climate Change Minister James Shaw said Ms Thunberg is correct to say New Zealand’s emissions haven’t yet decreased.

“That is why the work our Government is doing is so important – and clearly we have a lot of work to do,” Mr Shaw told Stuff on Sunday.

“This is a marathon effort involving every minister and every part of Government.”

For once I agree with Greta.

President Biden, New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern, how can you look your supporters in the eye and continue mouthing your empty climate promises?

Until you turn CO2 emissions in your countries around, we shall continue to print Greta’s harsh criticisms of your climate incompetence and utter lack of progress.

Just as soon as we finish laughing.

Vuk,

You may not fully appreciate the situation . . . her parents were the one’s coaching Greta from the get-go.

What . . . you think she was knowledgeable enough to generate her “talking points” regarding climate change on her own when, in late 2015 at age 15, she first received world-wide attention for protesting “climate change”?

Also, do you really think Greta could get a paying job with her current skill set, if she really did “have a go at her parents” at age 18???

Greta does not need to go to school just as Biden does need no brain.
Both were selected as perfermors. As long as they can move their lips and read some text everything is fine.
Greta was “discovered” by a friend (or shall i say comrade tovarish)of Al Gore.
Oh amazing coincidence.
A year before she was “discovered” her mother became WWF ‘s person of the year.
(Another amazing coincidence as coincidental as bushs father and son and trudeau father and son becoming presidents, or that both presidential candidates 2004(kerry,bush) were members of skull and bones in the 60ies).
And before that 100 years ago it was,i think, her grandpa who already promoted global warming.

Her job is simply to brainwash the youth.Same with AOC.
And Greta is nothing more than a copy of Severn Suzuki from 29 years ago.
They even recycled the speech of Suzuki(except the ” i have no agenda” part as this would have been too obvious)
and even the backgroundstory (brave little girl travels thousands of miles on her own to save the world at the UN)was recycled the same way they recycled the ice age scares for AGW.
The chances for average joe to go to the UN and to get a chance to speak incl. a massive media presence is as high as for a 13 year old girl to go to a Hollywood party and to be admitted. The chance is zero but it still happened to the little girl that was raped by Roman Polanski.
The girl was not by accident there – it was planned, but not by her.

Greta’s great grandfather Svante did not “promote” global warming, he did some of the early science on the relationship (ceteris paribus) between CO2 and temperature.

It was my understanding however that Arrhenius thought the projected increase in global temperatures would be beneficial.

An overindulged teenager “lashes out” at a country with less than 1/1000th of the world’s population, a remote, island country that derives an unusually high percentage of its electricity from hydro and geothermal — but that’s not pure enough for St. Greta?

She’s only a high school dropout, but elementary school students all over the world know a drop in the bucket when they see one. It doesn’t speak well for ANYONE that this latest tirade is taken for anything more than a case of derangement.

People like Greta, Ardern and Shaw contine to talk about ‘the climate crisis’ as though it’s some well established, undeniable fact.
There is no climate crisis. They ignore actual data that flies in the face of their claims that the climate is getting more extreme, we’re all to blame, and tell us ‘the science’ informs their decision making.

All this nonsense they spout goes completely unchallenged by practically everyone (thank God for sites like this one), including our opposition here in NZ. Anybody who dares to point out the emperor has no clothes on is decried as some kind of denier, and meanwhile our government continues on its merry way wrecking our country.
‘Stuff’, the source of that article, have outright told us they will not allow comment in their stories from anybody who questions ‘the science’ on climate.
We may not be wrecking things fast enough for Greta, but our leaders are still wrecking things at a fair clip.

To my mind, this climate nonsense really is settled. All I want to know is how to get our leaders to change course before they do something we’re all really going to regret.

I watched on and off for several years the ships offloading blades and turbine parts on the central Texas Coast at Harbor Island where there used to be an oil supply company. Texas freeze problem no surprise, we heard early about the wind dying. Now there is an impressive bigger ship with four cranes that carefully unload the blades and then they are moved out on really long trucks.

Texas coast often has relatively warm winters. Let us hope, but again may not be another surprise. I tell my engineer friends that it is all their professions’ fault. If they hadn’t more or less kept gasoline motors going with ethanol and even much less so far with renewables we would have been forced to have already solved the problem for better or worse. They don’t appreciate it, but understand. It will happen, did before on a much lesser scale.

I might have a tiny bit of respect for Greta if she were as strident towards the PRC as she is toward western countries. The PRC is already the world’s largest producers of CO2. If they continue building coal fired power plants at their current rate, anything the US and NZ could do would not slow down the global increase in CO2, let alone reduce it.

If Greta could recognize that CO2 is a minor greenhouse gas (compared to H2O) and necessary for life to exist on this planet she might actually be able to focus on something important.

It used to be chic to be a ComSymp or Socialist, sort of proving one reads and cares. But the people who espouse this love of Socialism have never lived in a Socialist/Communist country. I have Ukrainian friends who left Ukraine because they have no love of Communism or Socialism. I love to hear them go on about it and how happy they are to be in a free country.

“intellectuals” love socialism because it’s a political system where they can inflict their policies and solutions on the ‘uneducated’ populace. A little more difficult in a democratic/capitalist society.

They think that the modern educated elite has enough understanding to run complex systems and industries without making the same mistakes of the past. They don’t believe that there will be corruption, both individually and organizationally. They don’t understand that it is the overriding or stifling of human ingenuity and industriousness that leads to systematic long-term failures of top-down control, whether socialism, communism, fascism, Marxism, crony capitalism & etc. They don’t understand that a remote elite can never understand the facts on the ground such that their attempts to control human nature are consistently failures. They believe that the ruling class is as honest and benevolent as themselves.

That was Marx’ problem … he hadn’t a clue about what motivates humans (not to mention his utter lack of understanding about economics). To paraphrase Ronald Regan; ‘socialists know a whole lot that isn’t true’.

Fought with this question for years. I think there is really only one answer: greed.

Man evolved, as did many mammals, to live in family units. There is a ‘hierarchy of care’. Self and family, first, followed by friends who in some way contribute. The duty of care decreases as you get further removed.

Except for the gullible youth with no life experience, most everyone’s choices can be explained by that. If a person supports socialism, it’s because they believe it will best benefit them. Either they plan to be among those in power, or they fear they would not do well under a capitalistic meritocracy, and they want to be ensured of their ‘fair share’.

Even greed, itself, is an evolutionary trait. Greed ensures that the hierarchy of care can be continued in the future.

The duty of care decreases as you get further removed.

This concept is why governments are failing so badly with the kungflu ‘plandemic’. They have corrupted the “duty of care” beyond what our legal system allows. In effect, my duty of care to you ends at common courtesy and tolerance. It does not include making you feel safe. Socialists have some sort of mistaken belief in an altruistic duty, in which I must keep you well and happy … both spiritually and economically.

You were clearly misinformed. Using dyslectic is a misunderstanding of the conventions of a suffix following an X, eg.: ataxiaataxic

As adjectives the difference between dyslexic and dyslecticis that dyslexic is of or pertaining to dyslexia while dyslectic is dyslexic.
As nouns the difference between dyslexic and dyslecticis that dyslexic is a person who has dyslexia while dyslectic is dyslexic.

One could argue that English is just foreign words. The main difference from other languages is that the borrowing was from so many very different languages.

Rory Forbes
Reply to  Zig Zag Wanderer

Chomsky argued that English is a “Creole language”, a language ‘invented’ by children and used as their native language. It’s a form that no single group can claim … excepting the children. You’re right, they pieced it together from a wide selection of “parts”, refining, modernizing and improving it by removing uncooperative inflection, clumsy and unnecessary syntax and streamlining many spellings. While the literate adults were living in a virtual ‘Tower of Babel’, the kids spoke their own lingua franca.

The only real problem with English was that it was such a cooperative, easy language to use, it went on absorbing new words via the original route. Each new addition reacquired its own troublesome “mannerisms” … not to mention new conventions to suit each new addition. Kids have little trouble with it until the adults misunderstand the rules.

Or if US makes more nuclear powerplants than New Zealand would pathway to make more nuclear powerplant- or it’s up to US to lead the world by making better and more nuclear powerplants- which is only immediate solution to lower CO2 emission, globally as quickly as possible.

The fundamental characteristic of Progressive come Marxists is the Never Enough mind state.
The political state could grant them everything they demand for today, and tomorrow it would not be enough and they’d demand more. It is part and parcel of how they end up eating their own. They are irrational. Progressivism is mental disorder.

The only rational response is to never, ever let them have access to real political power. They have now tasted real politcal power with COVID mandates and lockdowns and they are intoxicated on power now in the US, the UK, NZ, and Australia. The fight to get them back into their box is real, urgent, as they are now an existential threat for individual liberty and freedom.

There is no “root cause” of evil in any financial/political system other that there are people involved. Greed, envy, lust for power, dishonesty, etc., etc., are common to all of Mankind.
At least free enterprise and capitalism is a system that needs to produce what the consumer needs or wants or the “filthy rich” will go broke. That means that the consumer must have the means to buy what is produced. Wages and jobs.
Involving Government in the system beyond health and safety? You have politicians that promise something for nothing to buy votes. Leave those who lust for power in power long enough, you get stuck with a Biden, an Obama, a Pelosi, etc. willing to trash The Constitution and The Bill of Rights to retain Power.
(Maybe they’ll even pack the branches of Government with employees’ who will not follow the Law but shield those who break the Law, go along with “weaponizing” areas of Government. Anybody remember Lois Learner?)

What does Trump have to do with any of this?”
It’s laughable Trump supporters call out Biden for his speeches, when Trump’s speeches are aimed at a 5 year old level of understanding. And even then some of his team can’t pick his lies.

“when Trump’s speeches are aimed at a 5 year old level of understanding”

That would explain why you can’t understand, above your head.

You’re the only one who mentioned Trump. You just can’t quit him.

Take the last shot…

Doubt it, her handlers are using her stature (4’11”) to extend the time they can portray her as a child in the media. Greenpeace and others had been trying to pull that off in the decade before Greta was presented to the media, they only have a limited shelf life. They might get a decade run with Greta, by them all today’s teenage activists will be having children of their own and will have no time for her. The likely plan for her is to follow in the footsteps of Severn Cullis-Suzuki, daughter of the multi-millionaire David Suzuki.
The local affiliates of the Climate Action Network (CAN) here in Ireland (Catholic charity Trocaire & Stop Climate Chaos, Friends of the Earth and An Taisce) have been very successful in hijacking the education system and have roped in quite few teenage girls that they present in the local media on climate change. An Taisce wrote the climate change curriculum for schools.

Ireland has also been inflitrated by the Postdam institute (PIK) showing up in Maynooth University and Ottmar Edenhofer sits on the government Climate Change Advisory Council quango. The national broadcaster RTE (BBC lite) take its lead from the Guardian using the same Climate newspeak.

They alarmists use Greta as a shield to avoid anyone challenging their dogma.

I assume that what Grets is saying is what her handlers are telling her to say. What she does not realize is the according to the paleoclimate record and the work done with models, on can conclude that the climate change we are experiencing today is caused by the sun and the oceans over which mankind has no control Despite the hype, there is no real evidence that CO2 has any effect on climate and there is plenty of scientific rationale to support the conclusion that the climate sensitivity of CO2 is zero. Hence any effort to reduce CO2 emissions will have no effect on global climate. It is all a matter of science. Mankind does not even know what the optimum global climate actually is let alone how to achieve it. Hence all efforts and money expended to affect climate change is effort and money wasted.

New Zealand CO2e emissions per capita are already half that of Australia, probably because NZ has easy available hydro & volcanic thermal for power generation (started many decades ago).

Australia exports a lot of food, fibre, coal & minerals which use fossil fuels so it slightly increases our emissions. There is a lot of room to reduce Australian emissions vs NZ but it may cost Australia more per CO2eT in some markets/areas/industries.

But I don’t expect Greta to understand science, economics, practicalities or fairness.

Currently, not all industries have the technical solutions to be net0.
Not all technical solutions have enough resources currently available to be feasible.
Not all technical solutions are currently economically feasible.
Not all technical solutions are currently time, space & labour feasible for rapid deployment.

Sometimes a technology promised to be economically feasible in 10 to 20yrs arrived 5yrs earlier than expected, but in many cases they take double the time & repeatedly pushed further into the future.

The question is also, has the climate changed as much as they expected? In most cases the answer is No, the >100yr changes have not been more extreme than the data manipulation/modelling. The promised emergencies don’t happen & we have more time to work out better & cheaper ways to change technologies or adapt.

It was absolutely heartbreaking for Ardern that, in order to keep the lights on, we had to import coal and run our sole remaining thermal power station. However, she realised the political cost of power outages quickly and has just had to grin and bear it. Although she is still the World’s darling, here she is losing support rapidly due to a mixture of lockdown fatigue and a raft of broken promises. Whenever she is questioned about these, her standard reply is, “We are thinking about it”. { political speak for – no idea }.

“The fact that we are in a crisis that we cannot build, buy or invest or way out of seems to create some kind of collective mental short-circuit among the people in power,” Thunberg said. “And the longer they pretend that we can solve the climate crisis within today’s system, the more invaluable time we will lose.”

Well then, the only solution to evil wicked Human activity is to adopt a Socialist lifestyle & the creation of a one-world Socilaist guvment, that will claim ownership of ALL the Wolard’s resources, & like good old fashioned Socialists, distribute that wealth as THEY see fit!!! Hey, lets all become Third World countries then we can all benefit, apparently!!! Oh I do like that sinister Orwellian expression “today’s system”,!!!
