Claim: China Weaponising UN Protection For the Great Barrier Reef

Guest essay by Eric Worrall

h/t Dr. Willie Soon, JoNova; China’s ongoing effort to punish Australia for opposing their South China Sea territorial ambitions has now allegedly extended to stacking the UN Heritage Committee.

Secret China plot to declare the Great Barrier reef as ecologically ‘in danger’ threatens to wipe $6billion from the Australian economy and destroy 60,000 jobs

  • Secret ploy by China could see Great Barrier Reef officially listed as ‘in danger’
  • Beijing are using a UN committee to have the health of the reef downgraded
  • A status change could threaten 64,000 local jobs and ruin $6.4billion economy
  • Controversial decision is expected to be ratified by World Heritage Committee

A secret push by China to have Australia’s Great Barrier Reef declared ‘in danger’ could cripple the Far North’s multi-billion dollar tourist economy and affect over 64,000 local jobs.

Beijing has been plotting with a China-chaired United Nations committee to have the environmental health status of the world-renowned coral reef downgraded, in a blatant effort to bypass the normal channels of the World Heritage Committee.

This has happened without proper scientific scrutiny or consolation, it is claimed, with any downgrading likely to threaten tourism and jobs.

The ploy took Australian government officials by surprise, who first learned about the clandestine scheme on Friday, The Australian reported.

This alleged abuse obviously has wider implications. If the United Nations ever receives greater powers to police global CO2 emissions, or if there are any other transfers of sovereignty to the United Nations, I think we now have a good indication of who will wield those new UN powers.

Funny
The world leader in coal expansion is “concerned” about the health of the GBR

Any Avenue to screw the west

And the scientologists will fall all over each other in the effort to praise Xi

It has to be surreal for the Chinese as well. Like finding the bank vault left open when you go to rob it. (sigh)

They don’t matter because China is still a “developing” nation. Forget the fact they have had nuclear weapons since 1964 despite the fact millions died during the “Great Leap Forward” between 1958 – 1962 seems to elude people.

With overdue consideration for the undermining of so many nations by China underway it’s past time that the target nations and their allies explained to China that they have become a predator and will be dealt with via world trade sanctions?

Mainly locals. The government is still not letting foreigners into the country, and not letting residents leave.

Sadly, Eric is correct. Lots of people listen to the UN and believe its BS and don’t check if the UN is correct. About 3/4 years when the destructive Terry Hughes was at his worse, a very close friend of mine from the USA contacted me. She said her and a group of friends were planning an overseas holiday and it was so sad the the GBR was destroyed, because that was their first choice. Just one small example of the power of destructive ecologists/politics.

China has become a super predator wanna be empire. They are destroying the fishery in the West Philipine Sea and the East Vietnam Sea where they have built the 7 man made islands, some of them in the EEZ of the neighbouring countries. Don’t call it the South China Sea, as they think because it has the name China in it, that their 9 dash line is legitimate. That has been ruled on by UNCLOS and their claim has been invalidated, and China is a signatory.

But they continue to fish everything out everywhere they go with the worlds largest fishing fleets, all the while not allowing the countries off their own coast to fish in some of their own water, in their own EEZ 370 Km from their own shores in SE Asia. This happened on Obama’s watch, and he also lost Scarborough Shoal, just 220 Km off shore from Luzon, Philippines when China lied to the world about its true intentions.

War in inevitable with China as long as Comrade Xi is still alive, so either take him out preferably internally within China, or prepare for war fairly soon. Things and history are about as close to 1935 Japan in SE Asia as it gets, although China’s influence is now global and has heavily infiltrated the USA and the entire planet at many levels. Just this weaponization of the UN to punish OZ about the GBR is proof of their malign intent.

At least the world hates the Red China CCP after this Wuhan virus, and China has lost major face in the world, and I wouldn’t be surprised to hear some day that his own enemies in the CCP have ‘cancelled’ Xi. Couldn’t happen soon enough.

“But they continue to fish everything out everywhere they go with the worlds largest fishing fleets, all the while not allowing the countries off their own coast to fish in some of their own water, in their own EEZ 370 Km from their own shores in SE Asia.”

I saw a report about how Chicom fishing vessels are being constructed so they can be used as battering rams against the ships of other nations, when they get in conflicts over fishing rights.

The Chicoms are playing hardball. They are going to encroach everywhere they are given the opportunity. That’s what dictators do, they push their envelope as far as they can until something pushes back hard enough to halt their ambitions.

The nations of the world could push back considerably against the Chicoms by boycotting the upcoming Chicom Olympic Games.

The Olympics should also be boycotted because they are allowing transgender males to compete in female competitions. Totally unfair!!! This sounds like a good way to destroy female sports. There are a bunch of fools trying to make decisions for us. Don’t listen to them.

I have mixed feelings over this.

Screaming that the reef was dying was good enough for the usual suspects back when there was grant money to be won and the MSM gleefully played along as it made their little Green voting hearts beat stronger in the knowledge they were doing the right thing politically.

Now China is actively trying to shut down the entire area because China is Not Our Friend and suddenly everyone is concerned about damage to the Industry?

Face it, if you are dumb enough to publicly say anything at all is wrong with your own country then China is cruel and aggressive enough to use those same words against you.

The MSM has had decades to state that the Reef was actually in pretty good state and provided it was respected it would be fine for generations, but instead wanted to score woke points with their activist friends.

The left media and politicians are all over this in this country. They hate the government because they won’t commit to net zero by 2050. They say the government should do more to combat climate change. We produce 1.3% of human CO2 emissions, China 30% and building coal fired power stations at an eye watering rate. Head of UNESCO telling us to cut CO2.

Yes, and Biden is not helping the situation by browbeating Australia over CO2 reductions.

Every time the Chicoms come out and criticize Australia, Biden ought to come out and praise Australia. He should not leave Australia twisting in the wind. He should voice support for Australia at every opportunity. That’s what a smart president would do.

Biden said he and Xi used to argue about whether Democracy or Authoritarianism would prevail.

Xi thought authoritarianism would win out over Democracy, and in our situation, he may be correct.

Democracy would win the contest if it had good leadership, but our Democracies, currently run almost exclusively by Leftists of one flavor or another, do not currently have the kind of leadership required to focus our Democracies in the proper direction. Instead our Leftist politicians and the overpowering Leftwing Media focus on gaining political power for themselves at the expense of the rest of the nation, and put us in jeopardy as a result.

The Dictator Xi, on the other hand, can focus all the attention of his nation on particular problems, and if he has any sense, can make a lot of (forced) progress, as he is doing now.

Xi is winning this contest. He wasn’t winning when Trump was in Office, but the American Left took care of that problem for him, and are going to try to keep that problem from coming around again, by hook or crook. Biden is no obstacle to Xi’s ambitions.

So we have not only the Chicoms working against the American people but we have a large number of radical American Leftists who are also trying their best to destroy the United States.

The U.S. won’t win this war until we deal with the radical Left and their mouthpiece, the Leftwing Media, and remove them from power, from now until the end of time. That’s the goal. 🙂

Then we might have a chance against the Chicoms. But poor leadership won’t get the job done, and that’s what we have now.

Countries should always be able to make finger gestures at the UN, which according to what should be Rule 1, is not a world government.

It would be great if the UN were renamed: United Sub-sets of Nations, i.e. groups of nations can collaborate if they wish on specific issues, but there should be no negativity for countries that decline the invitation.

So we can say, with fair certainty, that you were not a school bully. Because you don’t understand their propensity for ganging up.
Your solution though, has a whiff of having been bullied. That’s not how life works, the only protection you have against a bully, is force. So, either you build your own gang (BRICS?) or you learn karate while taking shooting lessons.
Or you can step out of the rat race, go be free. There you will find out, beyond the rats, there are only cockroaches, scavengers with no hope or recourse to the law, and you have to dispense your own justice as needed.
Justice is entirely dependent upon the amount of force you can bring to the argument.
Sometimes it’s easier just to give the gang their protection fee…

The goal of the climate change campaign is UN world government and a socialist world.
Christiana Figueres when head of UNFCCC:
“This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time, to change the economical development model that has been reigning for the past 150 years since the Industrial Revolution.”

While this act is certainly dirty tricksterism, it it also fearmongering to suggest that there is any move afoot by any nation in the world to transfer its sovereignty to the UN, which has no sovereignty, and can never have or exercise any sovereignty. That’s just scare mongering on the part of the author. Australia in particular is the least likely of any nation to yield its sovereignty to any other body or nation.

Depends on the threats and who is behind them and others coerced into supporting. We have lots of big companies dancing to the climate change tune in Oz. Countries will do that if the threats are of a serious enough nature. A radio station lost millions in advertising because they broadcast evidence against the climate scam, (2GB, 4BC plus).

What people seen to miss is the fact that Xi is mortal, and approaching the end of his life. Like all such people, he has spent all of his life gathering POWER, To do so, he has removed all threats, and so there is a massive gap just below him. When he goes, there will be a monumental fight on. I suspect the rest of us need not worry about China in about 20 years time.

June 22, 2021 5:50 pm

Well well, so now it’s not in danger? Peter Ridd said the reef was recovering and that bleaching etc has happened countless times over millennia (effectively saying anthropogenic global warming was not the cause) and the Cook university sacked him for going against the narrative of his peers who say it IS in danger and its humans doing it. Of course there’s no funding if its not..

June 24, 2021 1:22 am

First the WHO, now the UN. Why the hell do we pay any attention to all this? Why do we even fund these organisations, they are next to useless, often dangerous, and dont achieve anything more than our home grown charitable organisations can in those situations where they do do some good, such as famines.

June 25, 2021 11:28 pm

How ironic is this; Australia’s defence against this push by China & the UN should be James Cook University, the local reef guardian; however, all of their previously published peer-reviewed papers have said the reef is dying due to human emissions’ driven global warming; and they fired the only Professor who said it was not. They reap what they sow….
