Winds primarily cause the apparent sea ice ‘breakup’ in late spring through the widening of persistent polynyas and shore leads. This year the development of critical open water areas in Canada (which are important feeding areas for polar bears) is on track with previous years in most areas, although there is a lot of year-to-year variability.
Several prominent polynas also opened up along the Russian coast and Northeast Greenland: see the entire Arctic condition at 7 June 2021 below, courtesy NSIDC:

There is a rumor the bears wear a white fur coat to hide their black skin. I think a “lefttard” or two, or three [30 is a minimal sample size] should have a go at checking that rumor.

There never was a “debate”. Some misinformed people (a corrupt “scientist”) made a wrong assessment about some dead polar bears from a plane flying @ ~1100 feet altitude. That was thrown together into a BS “peer reviewed” paper that Al Gore got wind of. The real facts were suppressed by the media (that the bear population was thriving and had increased to approximately 25 — 30,000). Around the same time the Coke-Cola company used their cuddly polar bears drinking Coke on the Ice. The rest is history.

No the lower Summer sea ice cover isn’t hurting the Polar Bears, you will have to make a better case than that.
The summer ice cover extents is now similar in recent years indication of a stabilizing situation yet the Polar Bears appears to be in good shape.

Polar bears first appeared in the Pleistocene and so have been around for at least 100,000 years. That means they are pretty adaptable and adept at surviving.
What metric are you using for the ice continuing to get worse? Robust consensus among the voices in your head ??
Agree? What did you agree with? I didn’t mention ice conditions. I wrote about lies and bad science. If the bears have been affected at al, logic demands it was positive. The natural condition of the ice is fluctuation. Do try to improve your comprehension skills.
Sea ice extent is at 4th lowest for this date in the 42 year satellite record… I don’t see that’s somehow ‘in line with other years’
and do note that extent is that high due to some very spread out ice on the Atlantic side… where the ice is broken well above 85 degrees north.

How did Polar Bears survive the Holocene Thermal Optimum?
Well first off, the NSIDC Charctic site is down for maintenance, so it can’t be this date. The last date was Thursday or Friday of last week, where the ice for that date is above 2020, 2019, 2018, 2016 and 2015 and pretty much the same as 2017:

According to the maps shown, it looks like sea ice extent last week is very similar to what it was at the same date in previous years.
Actually, there seems to be less open water this year in western Hudson Bay than in some previous years, particularly 2015, 2016, and 2018.
So what’s the problem?
Can you imagine putting polyny in front of a cheap shot “as” on a Scrabble board?
