It’s kinda like digging ditches and filling them in, only with potholes they just have to fill them in. Same pay, half the work.

Potholes???

We have plenty and to spare. I didn’t know there was a pothole shortage in your locale. We can have the kids dig some up and send them to you if you are a bit short of them.

Isn’t blacktop racist?

Great idea, John, but I’m not sure it will fly with the woke crowd.

How much are they going to pay kid’s to do this? It’s hard enough to find kid’s who’ll flip burgers for$15. But then, there’s a lot of “Greta’s” out there who would be willing to slave away for nothing to save the planet.

I suspect they’re already indoctrinated before they start!!! As I’ve said before, Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Pol Pot, et al, all knew that to win the war, get to the children first!!!! In the UK it is illegal to brainwash children in our schools, at least in our state(your public ones) schools, yet it’s being done daily 5 days a week through lies, deceit, manipulation, about climate change, or global warming as it must be called, it’s all about a warming world!!!! Even the impartial, neutral, unbiased, BBC’s children’s programmes are full of warmist eco-propaganda, just to keep the message reinforced!!!! I’ve signed at least three online petitions to have the BBC privatised, but sadly they’ve amounted to nothing, but hopefully if we pester the powers that be enough, they may just get the message!!!!

What’s really bad is that Biden himself knows he’s just a place holder … an empty suit, fearful that he’ll put a step wrong. So he doesn’t do or say anything without permission.

They don’t rant though do they? The producers get the presenters to speak in a microphone-assisted nicey nicey “I live in North Berkeley where the world is lovely” kinda voice. The equivalent of Baghdad Bob Corporation-speak. I find it quite sinister.

“At one of our dinners, Milton [Friedman] recalled traveling to an Asian country in the 1960s and visiting a worksite where a new canal was being built. He was shocked to see that, instead of modern tractors and earth movers, the workers had shovels. He asked why there were so few machines. The government bureaucrat explained: “You don’t understand. This is a jobs program.” To which Milton replied: “Oh, I thought you were trying to build a canal. If it’s jobs you want, then you should give these workers spoons, not shovels.” – Stephen Moore

I saw the same thing in Mexico City when I worked there for 6 months. Had a room at a hotel overlooking a two story, old brick building of about 1/8th of a block. Every morning an old pickup with four guys, sledgehammers, wheelbarrows, and shovels would show up. They would proceed to dismantle the building brick by brick. They were still at it when I left.

When I asked folks at the company I was consulting for why heavy equipment wasn’t used they explained it was a jobs plan! It finally explained why they were so reluctant to modernize and reduce labor costs. The government was subsidizing their use if labor.

Constant reference to Roosevelt’s “New Deal”, which while it did produce some infrastructure didn’t do very much for the economy overall.

It took WW2 to properly wake the sleeping giant.

Lets make a distinction between the environment which we can have an impact on and the climate that we can’t.

So spending some money on an environment we are often careless about doesn’t seem a huge problem to me. depends on whether it is politically linked to climate in the manner it is carried out

Don’t suppose that in that 10 billion will be clearing underbrush in CA. I would guess it will be a grant to the NFT and NEA to develop and administer green brainwashing in schools.

If they want to educate the kids in environmental matters, can I suggest a simple field trip. A class of twenty are given two buckets each, capable of holding 2 gal of water.
Tell them they are on a two day awareness project that requires them to fill their buckets at the outflow of the hydro dam stream. There experience involves them filling and carrying the water buckets, climbing the steps back to the top of the dam and pouring the water into the header lake.
Repeat as often as they can manage without stopping.
When the class is exhausted after their second trip up and down, gather them round and explain, they have moved 160 gals in maybe two hrs. Show them an electric pump powered by the dam. Tell them it moves water back up during low energy demand periods, pointing out, it works at the rate of 20,000 gals/min, thus it would pump 2.4 million gals in the time the whole class moved just 160 gals.
Ask them if they think human energy or the use of reliable non tiring energy is better for filling the header of the dam?
Practical demonstrations, work wonders in education. Teachers should try it….

At first glance, there is nothing inherently wrong with a program like this, other than the “climate” spin put on it. The idea is to give young people jobs doing maintenance type stuff, most of which probably needs to be done, although I wouldn’t be surprised if some of it is make-work inspired and symbolic in nature. If it’s a government program, you can bet there will be plenty of waste and corruption involved. Where the rubber meets the road will be when they try to expand it, which they almost certainly will.

A couple of suggestions seemed reasonable. The podcasters thought using the Civilian Climate Corps to clean the forests of deadwood and build some seawalls was a good thing, and sounds ok to me. They could recruit the California homeless into the CCC, which would get them off the streets, and clean out the California deadwood in their forests. Why didn’t Gavin think of this?

The Biden administration is proposing a $10 billion budget for the Civilian Climate Corps, and AOC says this will create 1.5 million jobs, so I guess that is going to be the size of the CCC.

What I suspect will happen is the CCC will be used to harass climate change skeptics, along with any environmental work they might do.

Let’s see, what other environmental work could the CCC do?

How about patrolling the windmill farms and properly disposing of all the dead animals that accumulate during their operations.

I’m sure there are many more things they could do that would be useful.

The math on that $10b for 1.5m jobs works out to ~$6700/job. Quite the “living wage” there.

I guess they could pick up trash along roadsides, but then what would juvenile delinquents do for their community service? More likely this is just a way to use tax payer money to fund a bunch of democrat campaign workers disguised as green beans.
