UNFCCC Extends the Deadline for Climate Award Entries

Guest essay by Eric Worrall

If you missed the 30th April deadline for submitting your application for recognition for your climate efforts, the UN has extended the deadline, because their awards are so popular.

Deadline Extended: Apply for the UN Global Climate Action Awards by 9 May

UN Climate Change News, 26 April 2020 – Due to popular demand, the deadline to apply for the 2021 UN Global Climate Action Awards has been extended. If you haven’t done so already, be sure to nominate your climate action project by 9 May for a chance to have it showcased at the UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, Scotland, this year.

The annual award programme, run by United Nations Climate Change since 2011, recognizes the world’s most innovative, scalable and replicable examples of action to tackle climate change.

This year’s awards will showcase people and projects taking bold and effective climate action in the areas of climate neutrality, innovative climate finance and climate leadership.

The 2021 award winners will be celebrated at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 26) in Glasgow, Scotland, in November – the most important climate conference since the Paris Agreement was adopted in 2015.

The 2021 UN Global Climate Action Awards will recognize climate action that is already achieving real and tangible results in three categories:

  1. Climate Neutral Now: recognizing efforts by individuals, companies and governments that are achieving real results in transitioning to climate neutrality.
  2. Financing for Climate Friendly Investment: recognizing successful financial innovations for adaptation and climate mitigation.
  3. Climate Leaders: recognizing transformational efforts by governments at any level (national, provincial, state, city, town) that are moving the needle on climate change.

Applications for the 2021 UN Global Climate Action Award will be accepted until midnight GMT on 9 May 2021 at: https://momentum.unfccc.int/

I do hope some of you innovators out there take advantage of this extended deadline, to share with the world your zero point energy device, or your touching story of how you grew your own pickles in a bed of recycled solar panels.

Remember those wobbly muons which recently exposed alleged flaws in the Standard Theory. Now is the time to leap in with your idea for generating energy from stimulated dark matter decay, based on new forces you discovered from your re-analysis of recent anomalous physics observations.

Who knows – Rossi could even finally get some UN love for his world saving E-Cat cold fusion generator, which has to date somehow failed to live up to its promised potential.

WTF is “climate neutrality”?

April 1st was 26 days ago.
Seriously, one has to be a mental defective, a Billy Madison type, to dream up these kinds of terms. We are all dumber now for even having to hear it, much less try to understand, such an asinine thought.

I think we should vote for Nick Stokes and Griff, both have the required greentard credentials to take it out.

It’s a bit unfair to lump Nick in with Griff, Loydo, etc.

Nick may be a bit of a warmist, but his responses are often interesting, to the point, and he can back up his comments.

Plus, IIRC, Nick has helped authors on WUWT with corrections in calculations.

People may disagree, but I think Nick deserves a little more respect than Griff, Loydo, etc.

I would say a lot more respect. While I might disagree with what Nick is saying, he presents his arguments with references and technical detail, and I look forward to them. It always helps to have intelligent alternative views. It is the “intelligent” part which griff, loydo, etc., lack.

I will go you one better WTF is the UNFCCC (yes I can guess that is some kind of United Nations Climate Council like the political body the IPCC) but WhoTF Created it and from WTF does it draw is omniscient knowledge and Awe inspiring omnipotent power and authority? So Awesome, in fact, that we should fall all over ourselves to win an award from them to place on our fireplace mantel.

If we needed any evidence that The UN + AGW was nothing more than a leftist trope for Hollywood sensation movies, then we need to look no further than the fact they have attached an award ceremony to the process.

UNFCCC was spawned by the World Meteorological Organization iirc, whose puppet strings were being pulled by Maurice Strong back in the 80s.

(Maurice ultimately had to go into exile from Canada to see out his days in China over an embezzlement problem. Seems fudging temperature numbers weren’t the only numbers old Morrie took to fudging)

My Entry into the Climate Neutral Now category:

1. Build your wind power system.
2. Build your back-up system with 100% equivalent capacity in gas turbine generators.
3. Using high explosives, blow your wind power system all to hell.
4. Run your back-up gas turbine generators 24/7.
5. To save even more money, time, CO2 and energy, skip steps 1 and 3.

With a bit of luck it snows in Glasgow in November. Or else it is drenched by incessant rain.

It sounds like you’ve never been to Glasgow. You won’t need any luck for those outcomes in November. Summer usually lasts for a week in June or July.

For IPCC read IPCRESS

Inducing wholly new psycho-neuroses like Climate Anxiety/Grief/Distress etc especially in the young.

Now any old rubbish can be made to appear to make perfect sense. For example, ‘global heating’ causes exceptional cold. I know because that nice Dr Holdren told us this is so, and he is an expert.

This idea of ‘climate neutrality’ can only be realised when the human species has left the stage altogether. At least Attenborough is honest on that.

Net zero sounds catchy, but it really is a 6th form ideal (ie 17 or 18 yrs old). According to AOCs well thought through(sic) GND:

We set a goal to get to net-zero, rather than zero emissions, in 10 years because we aren’t sure that we’ll be able to fully get rid of farting cows and airplanes that fast, but we think we can ramp up renewable manufacturing and power production, retrofit every building in America, build the smart grid, overhaul transportation and agriculture, plant lots of trees and restore our ecosystem to get to net-zero.

I’d like to nominate myself for being the first to realise that 2020 showed how climate mitigation costs more than the Covid lockdowns did.

Introducing the idea of costs as well as benefits to climate action surely counts as climate leadership.

Well, as the EU said a few years back, “even if it turns out that manmade global warming theory is wrong, isn’t it just better that we learn to use less of everything!”. SO they admitted that manmade global warming was simply just a theory, & confessed their intention to manipulate & control the Human population by using their behaviour against them! Simples!

Thanks for the heads up, Eric. I will sign up for the category “Climate Leaders” with implementation of the Kalifornia wish to re-introduce Grizzly Bears into the Sierra Nevada Mountains. This will result in fewer Kalifornicators, which, due to Kalifornia being the most polluting state, will result in pollution reduction. Maybe Governor Newson could try to take a picture with the cuddly Grizzly Bears and they wouldn’t have to mess around with all of that recall stuff. Win – Win.

Cuddly Grizzly Bears, are almost as cuddly as those fluffy-wuffy Polar Bears, as demonstrated a few years ago when a private school took a party of boys into the Arctic to show them the awful destruction of the planet, which sadly resulted in the fatal mauling of a young boy by a fluffy cuddly Polar Bear! Still what bad luck, with so few of those cuddly-wuddly bears left………..c1960s, population estimated at c5,000, todays population estimated at around 25,000!!! BTW I haven’t heard of any recent highly accurate predictions on when the Arctic sea ice will all be gone. are “they” backtracking or something?

Alan the Brit, in 1967 on the north slope of the Alaska Range, along the Wood River, working as a summer geologist assistant, I was within 20 feet of an enraged, giant, male grizzly bear. He growled, huffed and puffed, gnashed his teeth, and postured (turn sideways and make his hair stand up). I had a Ruger 44 mag in my hand but the darn thing would not hold still. I actually wouldn’t wish enraged bears on anyone, except Kalifornians.

I was a field assistant in the Yukon at the same time and we had several run ins with grizzlies. We had a Rambo like stock of armament but the Colt45 was usually in the rucksack. Mostly when a grizzly got our scent he was quite happy to give us a wide berth. Californians probably smell sweeter than Glaswegians so here’s hopin’ !

Had a look at last years winners who “provide tangible proof that climate action is under way around the world,” according to the UN’s Socialist in chief Guterres.

The bar is quite low if you fancy your chances.

So they gave it to a flooring company, because nothing stops climate change like carpet.

A Caribbean beach resort, who put a few solar panels on the roof and started feeding kitchens scraps to local pigs.

Philips multi national light bulb manufacturer, but they’ve changed their name to Signify.

(How many Socialists does it take to screw in a light bulb? Just one, but when it fails, he’ll tell you it wasn’t a real light bulb)
…and an airport. Dallas Fort Worth is now apparently carbon neutral and a climate solution.

Expect things to start cooling down in Texas pretty soon then… oh…wow… that worked quick.

I will submit a breaking new climate neutrality strategy that involves the psychology of volcanos.

Indeed, volcanoes – among the worst GHG emitters – are not aware of the unprecedented climate crisis that the Earth is facing right now.

So, my proposition is to create a new climate – social – psycho – volcanic – solar justice field the aim of which is to convince volcanoes that they can help to solve the climate collapsing problem.

Each self-appointed climate savier (WP, Times, The Guardian, National Geo, …, UN, IPCC, WMO, NASA GISS, NOAA, etc.) will have to contribute by teaching the settled climate science to those GHG emitters, show them that they are a threat for the Planet (which includes jumping into the lava) and psychologically influence them so that they become GHG neutral.

I nominate the guy (or gal) who figures out how to actually deliver good, reliable, inexpensive FUSION POWER next year, and who will not fall back on the trope that it will be ready in 20 years.

I nominate the guy (or gal) who figures out an inexpensive system to quickly snuff out a battery fire in Lithium batteries, and miniaturizes it so that it can be carried by Fire and Rescue vehicles.

I nominate any 2024 Republican presidential candidate who has the cajones to call for the end of the UNFCCC and who will ridicule the Unicorn Fart Sniffers of Big CAGW.

Since all of the above seem near impossible, I’ll settle for a Biology undergraduate who admits that extra CO2 in the air really does seem to be helping plants grow, and thus, helping the entire biosphere of our planet, even including the human people.

Thank you for the heads up on this – I’m going to enter my latest invention – it’s sure to win 🙂
I have developed the worlds first night -time solar panel that will no doubt improve the lives of people living off grid in the less developed parts of the world. All I need is recognition of my invention and say $50 million to get the project up and running. Just think how many in places like Africa will benefit from lighting at night, being able to use a laptop after dark, being able to boil a kettle for a nice cup of tea. I have calculated that this wonder could be available for as little as $10,000 per unit ( batteries not included )

ROFL!!! The only reason for extending a deadline is a need for entries. If there is a huge demand then they would terminate entries due to having too many.
