Al Jazeera Video Exposes the 30 Year Climate Denier Conspiracy

Guest essay by Eric Worrall

The delicious irony of a non-US big oil connected media organisation presenting US and European oil companies as the bad guys in the climate debate.

“In 1988 the UN established the IPCC, where scientists all over the world agreed with James Hansen.”

Jerry Taylor (former CATO VP): “Climate denial is entirely dependent on the denial of the underlying science”.

Marc Morano: “If you look at the Satellite data, the world has actually been cooling since 1988.

Marc Morano: “I believe in a Television or Debate Scenario, you make the other person defend their stupid comments”

Jerry Taylor: “A lot of people who don’t know what to think about climate change are being told by people like me that its a relative non-event, that its the same kind of wolf crying that the environmental movement has done from time immemorial, first we were told there was a population bomb which was going to wipe out humanity, and that bomb never went off, then we were told we were going to run out of fossil fuels and agricultural commodities, we were all going to starve, and that never happened, and this is just the latest iteration of the usual story from environmentalists that if we continue to go down the path of laissez faire capitalist roads we were going to blow up the planet and destroy mankind.”. [Are you sure you are no longer on our side Jerry? :-)]

Myron Ebel: “Its clear that the Earth is greening, and that’s a bad thing?”

Myron Ebel: “Global warming as a political project was initiated in Sweden in the 1980s, they needed a reason to increase tax revenue. I think you’re aware, in Denmark, the welfare state, it needs money, and it needs more money as time goes on”.

Video: https://www.aljazeera.com/program/featured-documentaries/2021/4/17/the-campaign-against-the-climate-debunking-climate-change-denial

Around 11 minutes there is a few minutes of Naomi Oreskes starts complaining about how everyone is out to get her, followed by complaints about a Shell Oil film saying that fossil fuels are essential, complaints that BP, Shell and Exxon provide funding for research into green energy. Oreskes pops back into the film at random intervals, so its pretty hard to avoid seeing her.

The film contains lots of conspiracy ideation, Exxon runs the world type stuff. Pins on boards with string. Tobacco conspiracy nonsense at 34 minutes. Ed Garvey, who worked for Exxon in the 1980s, at 38 minutes, discussing how Exxon management did not agree with his research.

Naomi Oreskes suggests that scientists who receive funding from oil companies are unreliable, but Ed Garvey used to work for Exxon, and now he is a climate alarmist. Perhaps you are only unreliable if you disagree with Naomi Oreskes?

The idea that someone could disagree with Hansen and Oreskes’ position on climate change, because they reached different conclusions based on the available evidence, is not considered.

Al Jazeera also forgot to mention that Naomi Oreskes once called James Hansen a denier, because Hansen thinks nuclear power will be an essential part of the future zero carbon energy mix. Oreskes apparently thought Hansen was denying the promise of renewable energy.

Watching the film you could easily form the impression Naomi Oreskes and James Hansen agree on everything, which they clearly don’t.

And of course there is the delicious irony that the film producer Al Jazeera owes their existence and much of their funding to the big oil Qatari royal family, though they claim they have editorial independence. Perhaps a bit like the BBC.

Al Jazeera is not immune to accusations of conflict of interest. Al Jazeera also funded Matt Damon’s anti US fracking film in 2012.

A person with a really suspicious mind might wonder if someone in Qatar wants the USA and Europe out of the oil and gas game, and is trying to stir up political opposition to oil and gas extraction in the USA and Europe. But obviously this would just be speculation.

If Al Jazeera are expecting their video to move the needle on the climate debate, I think they are in for a big disappointment.

None of this was ever about climate – it’s so pathetically obvious when they ignore nuclear which always has been the ONLY possible low CO2 solution. Of course if you actually believe a molecule essential for life is evil and must be taxed and eradicated then I guess you can made to believe about anything…

And, surely, most of the elected representatives, politicians, cannot be as stupid as their support for the climate change hoax and creatively accounted warming trend suggests that they are?

And therefore the only conclusion is that they in the majority are self interested crony capitalist deceivers?

Understand that the Democrat Party/leftists believe in only two things: they should have power and they should have wealth. Everything they do is an attempt to advance those two goals. If it would advance them, they literally would say (and have said, in fact) the exact opposite of what they said the day before. That’s why the flagrant hypocrisy of people like Al Gore, Barack Obama, etc. is shrugged aside so easily.

When the AGW true believer (green) “arguments” (talking points) are dismantled into their component parts we’re left with a mish-mash of contradictory views on the future and no solutions to human energy needs. They all cherry-pick the data, time periods and science they choose for each point. When their extravagant claims (predictions) fall short of the mark they just move the goal posts. Of course nuclear is the only practical replacement for fossil fuels. James Hansen knew that over 30 years ago.

The thing is, when the media (the Left’s propaganda department) spread the ‘news’, they always call it “prediction“. Of course, you’re right, brain washing or not, the scientific method does not function with projections. They can’t be falsified, so they are not fitting conclusions to an hypothesis. Science requires both precision and accuracy.

Of course nuclear is the only practical replacement for fossil fuels.

And then, of course, only for electricity generation. For transport, there is no replacement, nor is there for heating (especially when they are doing everything possible to make electricity (1) much more expensive and (2) much less reliable.

Nor is there any replacement for fossil fuels for all the other things it is used for. Plastics, pharmaceuticals, textiles, the list is endless.

Every single smoke and CO alarm made to save lives contains nuclear radiative material as part of its detector systems. They also contain fossil fuels. People who worry about nuclear energy and fossil fuels should remove their smoke detectors from their houses or admit their lives are meaningless as the hypocrites they are.

From a purely scientific POV, saying “carbon” is a purely political term and really has little to do with atmospheric CO2 concentration. If truth were known, our planet has been gobbling up our precious CO2 to dangerously low levels. It’s starting to thrive now, with more plant food and warmer temperatures.

I’m currently enjoyed a carbonated beverage of carbohydrates all made by Nature using the Demon Molecule. Even the ethanol is a carbon pollution-based molecule. Sad that People can’t see the idiocy being employed by an even more ignorant Left when they invoke carbon pollution language from simply sending carbon back to the air where plants and then return it back to us in useful forms of high energy content molecules, and molecules like EtOH that have brought much human solice for countless thousands of years.

And wants us to be happy, I believe I read.

Although I fully agree, I have to say that wine is greater proof. Beer takes quite a bit of work and care to make. Wine, on the other hand, pretty much makes itself. Just mash up some grapes, drain off the juice, and leave it for a while…

Beer makes itself.
https://vinepair.com/beer-101/wild-fermentation-beer-guide/
Leave barley in a clay pot. Sunshine, rain and wild yeast will produce a great beer.
This BTW how beer came to be.
Also why the human race stopped being hunter-gatherers and started agriculture: to be able to produce more and better beer. Being no longer nomadic provided the opportunity to use parts of the day for inventions to make life easier. This lead to more inventions amongst which the ability to drill for oil for heating, transportation and produceing all kinds of materials. The same oil that is now being blamed for CO2 in the atmosphere which supposedly will lead to catastrofic Global Warming.
Thus having a beer lead to this wonderful website.

Start doing the research yourself. Check everything to your own satisfaction and don’t just take others word for it – develop your critical thinking and reasoning skills. You’ll probably find it useful to familiarise yourself with a basic level of physics and educate yourself as to much of the climate science. Look at sites that claim to prove or disprove certain facts and check their sources where possible. There is no easy substitute for your own personal judgement in this – you need to make up your own mind as to what is going on and where the weight of scientific proof lies.

Just a question: has anyone ever told Namoi Oreskes the level of her personal volume of CO2 production?

I mean, seriously, when CO2 is the villain and someone who condemns it is rattling on about it, shouldn’t s/he/it be informed that “you’re contributing to CO2 pollution every time you open your mouth to speak or exhale air from your lungs”?

It’s so obvious that this is a fad that the weakest minds with the weakest arguments can latch onto, what else is there to say or do, other than pointing out the obvious?

You, Naomi Oreskes, are solely responsible for adding a high volume of CO2 to the atmosphere every time you exhale and speak and pass intestinal gas (methane, people!!!). So what are YOU going to do about it?

I truly have no idea why anyone reads or listens to Naomi Oreskes. She demonstrates no understanding of science, especially climate, nothing of economics and clearly failed basic logic. She is or was a professor of the history of science at Harvard, though gawd knows how she managed that. She’s one of the prominent apologists for the 97% “consensus” fallacy. Clearly, if she was a “professor of science history” she’d have learned that the Holocene historical record falsifies AGW completely … and if she learned any logic at all she’d know “climate change” is an appeal to ambiguity – nothing but equivocation.

She is no scholar. She’s an over paid Leftist and political hack.

Obviously Russia, Saudi Arabia, and OPEC in general have become flummoxed in their world oil pricing collusion with the US shale oil-fracking boom. They can no longer dictate world prices as long as the shale frackers in the US move in and become serious competitors when the prices rise enough. And no of serious intellect who remains honest thinks the world can do without oil until we have due to scarcity even at high prices. And today the world is awash in oil at all price points. The oil thing that curtails it is not the free market, but markey supply manipulation. The Green idiots think they can control it on the demand side with jokes like the COP agreements, which if anything only lowers the price resulting in more oil and gas being burned. The developing third world thanks the EU for its climate religion sacrifices which lowers oil prices to where they can afford it and promises to keep it there, including China and India.

And from a geo-political engagement stand-point it allowed Donald Trump room to demonstrate to the Persian Gulf sheiks they needed the US far more for security than the US needed them for energy. Thus all the Abraham Accords with Israel and those sheiks came about as they could no longer ignore US pressure in the face of a coming nuclear-armed Iran. One day, when current TDS afflicted libtards are gone from the stage, the historic and paradigm-shifting nature of those Abraham Accords will finally be acknowledged.

His relationship with the military was far from contemptuous and just because he isn’t a so-boy, male feminist doesn’t mean he disliked women. I’ve got no dog in the fight. I’m a Canadian with a deep sense of embarrassment over the leader we have. In 2015 I thought the Yanks were mad to run some dilettante billionaire with an ego and a comical comb-over. Two years in, having to search for real news on the guy, the story had changed. This guy gets stuff done, stuff politicians had been promising for decades. By year three it was clear, if only for the intense hate the swamp dwellers had, I knew this guy had real substance (never mind his public persona).

Whatever the media has said about him is 180 degrees wrong. From the research I’ve done (extensive) he could easily be the best US president of the modern era … warts and all. He’s not even close to the chauvinist that Kennedy was and the military love him for the stuff he has done for them no one has heard about. For instance, during the Capitol building “riot” the O’Biden team billeted 100s of National Guard in a parking garage (no heat, no food and no toilets) when Pelosi no longer needed the pretense. Trump put them up in one of his hotels. Personal stuff he did with the troops, simply wasn’t reported. The media reported one thing (fake news) about his supposed contempt for the troops and it went viral … same with the “crotch grabbing” quip, taken out of context.

The US and the world are lucky Trump happened along … his tenure forestalled some major Marxist inroads. In short, you appear to have swallowed all the fake news the media have recently admitted to. Their sole object was to remove Trump. The world is poorer for it. The media provided nothing truthful for 5 years.

The only problem with your reading of events is that the Saudi’s and Israel have been quietly working together behind the scenes for decades. Gotta have some of those inflatable clown dummies around for you to punch Fred; otherwise you might bet bored! Sparring is great exercise; even against those with little art or skill!

Nearly two weeks after 1 April. Funny!

Oh dear, typical docu-drama with that continual ominous conspiracy type background music.

This sort of sh@t stirring propaganda is poison.

That woman would not look out of place guarding a Gulag, just saying.

From their blurb:
These days, one might hope that the world sees what is happening to the climate as a serious global crisis – but that is not always the case.”

…with that you know you’re in for an in depth balanced evaluation of the debate.

Oh I forgot…there is no debate.

Personally, I consider the fact that the world is heading for the next ice age to BE a serious global crisis.

Agreed – and the idiots pushing the mock “AGW Climate Crisis” are going to make sure as many as possible perish when that REAL “crisis” occurs, by making energy scarce, unreliable and extremely expensive.

Is pro-big-oil-conspiracy Oreskes so dishonest – or mentally challenged – to call climate dissenters conspiracy seekers ?
Or does she have any valid argument, fact, data, to oppose to them ?

“This is a scientist from NASA…” Actually a small office above a restaurant in New York called GISS, run by two people, and only remotely connected to NASA.

Yes, it does NASA no credit that it tolerates their name being used for the kindergarten tosh that GISS puts out.

Maybe the chiefs at NASA would takes steps to dissociate themselves if they were personally credited with the bumpf that GISS releases as “science”?

“This is a scientist form BASA…” giving a speech on warming after the air-conditioning system was intentionally interfered with to make the room warmer.

“This is a scientist from NASA…” Who calculates UHI by looking at night tie photographs of the earth from space.

“This is a scientist from NASA…” whose data was found to have miscalculated and that 1933 was in fact the hottest year in US history.

“This is a scientist from NASA…” who constantly cools past data to make todays warming look worse.

“This is a scientist from NASA…” whose replacement is so scared of debate he runs off stage as soon as a real scientist turns up.

Since when is Naomi Oreskes a Professor? Of what? What “University” or “Institute”?

Oh I’ve just found out: a Professor of “history of Science in America” thus extremely qualified (/sarc) for diagnosing “climate denialism”. Would you even think of having a Professor of “history of medicine” perform life-critical operations in a hospital?

Of course. If they were performed on Oreskes, Mann, McKibben, Thunberg and Schmidt.

She is a professor of history who is unable to keep her own personal history narratives straight. Beginning at the 13:56 point of the video, she says how she was at a German conference shortly after her Dec 2004 928-to-0 consensus paper was published and Eric Conway came up to her after the sessions to say he recognized the name of one of the attackers of her paper. The bare minimum problem there is that for Conway to have warned her who that ‘attacker’ was, he would’ve needed a time travel machine to accomplish that. The German conference they were at was in July 2004 — I explained that in great detail with supporting evidence here “Oreskes’ Inability to Keep Her Mouth Shut & the Big Erik Conway Problem” and in subsequent blog posts.

I’m right about everything and there is no valid alternative point of view. So, if someone disagrees with me, it can only be because they know I’m right, but because its going to cost them money, they are deliberately lying. This is what is so invidious about all of those who disagree with me: their motives are always based on self-interest and deliberate deception. This only further confirms not only how right I am, but how my motives are pure and moral and above reproach and those who disagree with me are awful selfish liars who would rather destroy the planet than admit the truth. Still, I push on. I try to stay humble, but gosh it’s not easy sometimes.

Interesting that the first bloke on TOLD THE TRUTH

CO2 .. we need MORE OF IT..

Then they they go on about LIES of climate science…

yes.. we know “climate science” is full of LIES !

Starting with a statement of FACT then trying to DENY that fact for the rest of the video.

Very stupid. !

duh…. they agree to cooperate! Not impressed.

JZ,
What was the agreement? Mr. Heinz Catsup agreed to convince the American public to bend over and present for the ChiComs, and I don’t think those are the new Covid swabs! Just like the last few decades, bar Trump the US public is F’d by our leaders selling out to the CCP!

Yeah China made a huge commitment .. see the quotes

“Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng signaled Friday that China is unlikely to make any new pledges at next week’s summit.”

“For a big country with 1.4 billion people, these goals are not easily delivered,” Le said during an interview with The Associated Press in Beijing. “Some countries are asking China to achieve the goals earlier. I am afraid this is not very realistic.”

YEP that is huge and changes everything … Now lets see what sleepy Joe promises.

I would only disagree on the placement of the starting date of the anti-energy nonsense. I put it at 1972-1973 with the book “Limits to Growth” by the Club of Rome. I was made to read that in my Engineering Honors course at Kansas State University, and there was an accompanying op-amp-based computer simulation demonstrating that human resource consumption would eventually destroy the world for humanity. We all bought into that lie until our pre-frontal cortexes finished forming and we could employ rational thought as engineers. I truly believe this same global elite group then decided that, if you could demonize and control carbon usage, you control behavior of all humanity.

Crosses my mind that Al Jazeera is not above a bit of satire.
While the Cult of Calamitous Climate is beyond parody in so many ways,it would appeal to some senses of humour to play them some more.
For example, what genius thought the 10:10 nonsense was a winner?
And the “stars” of the “The Science” of Catastrophic Climatology are awful dim.
Again as an example Naomi herself or The Mann, impossible characters to invent as fiction, staggeringly absurd in reality.

Gilbert and Sullivan knew how to parody such creatures.

April 18, 2021 9:04 am

Of course they are just trying to shut down competition, been at it for a couple decades here in canada.

The real deniers with real measurable impact are those that have not tracked the acceleration of China across the global economy and power reach. These green deniers are still arm waving about CO2 and ‘capitalism’ while China dominates industry by industry. I guess the greens will still be doing that when the U.S. is a distance second in economic size and national wealth. Dems will will still be selling ‘infrastructure’ stimulus plans with highways and bridges getting only 5% of the borrowed money.
