Bill Gates has been accused of hypocrisy after entering a bid to buy the world’s largest private jet operator, just one month before he releases a book preaching about climate change

The Microsoft boss’s company Cascade Investment entered the bidding war for Signature Aviation Friday, teaming up with Blackstone Group to make a $4.3 billion play for the British private jet servicing company.

Cascade and Blackstone are now going head-to-head with private equity firm Carlyle, which had already made an initial takeover approach.

Gates’ Cascade already owns a 19 percent stake in Signature making it the firm favorite to win the bid.

But news of Gates’ pursuit of the private jet firm has raised eyebrows given the company’s actions are at direct odds with his very vocal stance on climate change.

I’m deeply shocked anyone would accuse Bill Gates of climate hypocrisy, just because he wants to be a leading player in the Private Jet industry.

Private jets are an essential tool in the war on climate change. The evidence is the private jet traffic jam in San Francisco International Airport, last time California hosted a major international climate conference.

Bill Gates should run for office. He seems to master the art of saying one thing and doing something else. Hypocrisy or feeble mind??? With all his money he could subsidize research in many fields to help humanity AND ensure “new ideas/inventions” that have not been proven are not forced on the plebs by corrupt politicians. I know his foundation already does a lot of good but he who has a lot should do a lot.

Bill Gates believes in stopping climate change so much that he bought a California seaside home for $43 million in San Diego county this year. A 10 foot sea level rise would be a real problem there. Maybe he is using it for additional motivation to save us all as well as his house too?

Would take hundreds of feet of sea level rise to inundate the cliffs at Del Mar. They would erode a lot quicker though.

I haven’t been near there personally, but viewing aerial and topographic maps, it looks like the property might be around 10 feet above sea level at high tide.

Of course you are being facetious Ed, but for those out there with the low mental acuity of joe Biden, which includes all the “man made global warm…ahh we really meant climate change all along” believers (not to be confused with The much smarter conniving Alarmist. aka the Dr Frankensteins’ of Climate Hobgoblins),

“Worlds Largest” means more than one Company to fill the demand. That move, by Gates, would be great news for #2 soon to be the “Worlds Largest” Private Air Transportation company.

Gates could stop polluting the air with his VERY OWN CO2 load, by getting his mouth sewn shut.

Recently, I’ve started to wonder if these politicians, billionaires and celebrities aren’t really running a massive gaslight operation to purposely sabotage the climate change agenda they proclaim to support. Of course, any genuinely serious effort at eliminating CO2 from our lives would be decimating to their wealth, political power and lifestyles which they obviously do not want to give up. So they transparently participate in this hypocritical behavior that makes it impossible for any thinking individual to take them and their movement the least bit seriously. It’s win-win for them. They won’t have to sacrifice either their wealth or lifestyles, but they also get their virtue signalling points from their peers and the idiots who do take them seriously.

Some very valid thoughts.
And you could be right for quite a few.
But the key component is arrogance.
Whether they are legitimately trying to save US or just doing for their own benefit, the think they are better than US.

I could be wrong about what I remember about Bill Gates back in the late 1990s, but I seem to recall that the Clinton Administration thought that Bill’s wealth was not being distributed wide enough, so they brought him to Washington D.C. under antitrust allegations. Bill quickly learned how to play the games that politicians use to enrich their coffers; and in the process his rhetoric and wallet turned leftward.

I think you are right about that. Up until the latter half of the ’90’s, Microsoft famously had ZERO full-time lobbyists in Washington. Microsoft had a rather libertarian view of their company and it’s role in society. The DC establishment sent a strong message with the anti-trust suit: That’s a nice company you’e got going there. It would be a shame if something were to happen to it.

Strictly business – those with the means are going private air – no line-ups, no real security pat-downs, no baggage hassles, no terminal hassles…Florida (that is not under the draconian lockdown) has seen double digit increase in volumes at those ‘little’ airports that can accommodate the small jets – sort of Uber for air travel

Why is everyone so negative? I’m sure if Gates is successful he’ll announce plans to replace the dirty fossil fuel guzzling jet engines with electric ion drive thrusters powered by E-Cat cold fusion reactors just as soon as the bugs are worked out. Why NASA has already announced that their latest ion drive thruster produces of 5 Newtons (about 1.2 lbf). Just needs to be scaled up 4 orders of magnitude or so. And we’re all aware that E-Cat is in its final stages of commercialization and should hit the market in the next quarter or so.

The climate scam is for the little people, that is… you and me, Not for the elites and the politicians they buy. They want that petroleum for their private jets and for their grandchildren to have that as well. Can’t have us proles using it all up.

Take it easy on Bill, he’s on the record saying wind and solar isn’t enough (he’s being PC he knows it’s worth less than nothing), and he’s willing to put up a matching $billion to move his Terra wave nuclear scheme forward. He can do anything thing he wants about anything and he’ll still be my Hero if he says, “End wind and solar now and start phasing in small scale nuclear before 2030, Next, work up to 2% more nuclear on the electrical grid, each year, to be full nuclear generation in 2100”. No one else is showing any leadership, he’s our best (only?) hope.

Reply to  Dennis G Sandberg

If he was showing leadership he would be using his notoriety to let everyone know that net zero by 2030, or 2035, or 2050 is not possible without massaging/cheating the numbers AND that those that tout the folly for political reasons are harmful to society.

He is showing no leadership. He is trying to make himself feel good and he is trying to make money.

A “hero” is someone who sacrifices or puts at risk his own well-being for the good of fellow citizens. There is nothing “heroic” about Gates’ self-intrested investments, be it in “climate” or vaccines. He is not getting any poorer despite his alleged “philanthropy”.

private jet traffic jam in San Francisco International Airport, last time California hosted a major international climate conference.

The French did it right. They sited COP21, which begat the Paris Climate Accord, at Le Bourget. Paris-Le Bourget airport handles private jet travel only, and has eight terminal buildings for hypocrites to use.

And more good news for hypocrites. Almost all private jet operators will be exempt from the UN’s Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) .

I recall Richard Branson in the news with Al Gore on a trip to Antarctica right before Branson bought that private island for development in the Caribbean and before he expanded the Virgin Air fleet. They’re not fooling some of the people all the time–at least at WUWT.

The charity trust racket like Bill’s and Hitlery Clinton’s and Soros has one…is very useful….Bill could fly to Paris over a weekend and charge the jet…the 5 star hotel and quisine all to the trust….just maybe make a 5 minute phone call in Paris to someone about the trust. Charity trust biz is hard…but someone has to do it.
