10 Failed Predictions: Video

From Climate Resistance

Many climate alarmist’s failed predictions were centered around 2020. This video examines just ten, and argues that they were produced not by science, but by ideology. This is proved by the fact that rather than suffering any consequences to their careers or public standing, fearmongering individuals and institutions enjoy continued and undeserved success. The analysis of the ten predictions was produced by Steve Milloy and can be read at his website:

In December 2017 Australian researcher Robert Holmes published a definitive, peer-reviewed refutation of any possible “carbon footprint” (greenhouse-gas CO2) influence on any –repeat, any— planet’s global atmospheric surface temperature (GAST).

Combined with plate-tectonic continental dispositions, currently blocking global atmospheric/oceanic circulation patterns by walling off Eastern from Western hemispheres, for the first time since the pre-Cambrian Ediacaran Aeon fluctuating TSI has induced cyclical 102-kiloyear glaciations over 3.6 million years since the mid-Pliocene. Though Earth’s interstadial 12,250-year Holocene Interglacial Epoch ended with a 500-year Little Ice Age in AD 1350, global temperatures have trended lower over 3½ millennia from New Kingdom Pharaonic times. On this empirical basis, Holmes’ Mean Molar Mass version of the Ideal Gas Law equates any planet’s Temperature T = PM/Rp, where P = Atmospheric Pressure times M = Mean Molar Mass over R = Atmospheric Density times Gas Constant p.

With virtually zero error margins throughout the solar system, Holmes’ Law accordingly negates any planet’s parts-per-million (PPM) “carbon footprint” (CO2), refuting anthropogenic warming via “fossil fuel” (sic) emissions root-and-branch. Any AGW poseur professing otherwise is either studiously ignorant of decades-long research, basic math plus nuclear reality, or a mendacious fool.

From Paul Ehrlich to Paul Krugman making wrong predictions is a cottage industry. It’s ok to be wrong if you’re wrong for the right cause.

They both are the poster children for adopting the The George Costanza Opposite Policy Approach. Every instinct on public policy they have is and has been wrong. So do the opposite of whatever they propose.

Like George Costanza in Jerry Seinfeld’s comedy, every instinct George ever had about anything was wrong. So Jerry tells George, “Well if every instinct you have is wrong, doing the opposite must be right.” He immediately started trying. Instant success. It changed George’s life, until he fell back into his old ways of following his instinct to abject failure. Similarly, following Krugman’s or Ehrlich’s (or his student John Holdren) advice is a path to abject failure.

You touched on what I call the “Two Pauls Contrarian Indicator”. Any statement on which both Paul Ehrlich and Paul Krugman agree is true is false.

Anthony, et al., the new look stinks. I don’t mean the red borders and such. Whereas the older website had climate-related links down the right side, it is now entirely loaded with click bait links, many with the same overused photos of half-nude women (e.g., the busty “bride” pic – you know the one). Embedded ads likewise are full of T&A clickbait. Then I always get Google ads at the bottom that must be Xed to remove (Q: Why do I get Google ads when I used Duck Duck Go to navigate to WUWT?).

I can zoom the page on computer or tablet to hide the side bar, but that isn’t so easy on a phone screen with limited real estate. And why should I have to battle to avoid the clickbait invasion? Aside from the annoyance, all of this creates the sense that WUWT is illegitimate, just another National Enquirer. Is this what you are forced to do to obtain “advertisement” funding?

I’m wondering…what is is about using an ad blocker you aren’t understanding? Where to get one? How to install it? How to configure it? What browsers do they work on?

This comment applies to anyone who complains about ads anywhere on the internet. If one goes to sites that includes popups then use a browser where they can be suppressed. And, by all means, get decent virus and internet security software if you’re using Windows.

Someone already mentioned two basic products; AdBlock and Ghostery. These two products eliminate almost all ads, except on prurient sites where the sites are ads.

The “2009: China to cut emissions 40-45% below 2005 level by 2020; India to cut 20-25%.” lie of course came out of the COP15 December 2009 Copenhagen UNFCCC summit.

COP15 was just 10 months into the new Obama Admin, and COP15 was widely panned as a colossal failure. COP15 accomplished nothing (just like Obama’s 8 years). It became glaringly obvious to the Obama Admin climate scammers that something on the climate propaganda-PR front would have to be done to explain China’s exploding emissions in the face of demands for the West to curtail its emissions and commit economic suicide while China grew its emissions without pressure or restrictions.

Hence in November 2014, President Obama flew to Beijing and groveled to President Xi Jinping of China where he signed the toothless pledge with Xi for China to still do nothing while throttling the US with his EPA fiat called CPP, exactly one year ahead of Paris COP21. Obama and his PR-propaganda machine sold it as a victory as he sold-out the US economic future to China’s growth.

From the NYT in November 2014:
The landmark agreement, jointly announced here by President Obama and President Xi Jinping, includes new targets for carbon emissions reductions by the United States and a first-ever commitment by China to stop its emissions from growing by 2030.

Administration officials said the agreement, which was worked out quietly between the United States and China over nine months and included a letter from Mr. Obama to Mr. Xi proposing a joint approach, could galvanize efforts to negotiate a new global climate agreement by 2015.”

I’ve done pretty well over the years selling Survived T-shirts.  I Survived Y2K was a best seller.  I Survived 2012 was a good one too.  I’m working on I Survived COVID shirts now.

I’ve been searching the internet for more T-shirt opportunities and compiled a list of catastrophic predictions.  Unfortunately most of the prediction dates have come and gone without catastrophe.  I captured the ones listed in above article that have passed in 2020 without incident. Maybe the recent predictions by Prince Charles and AOC will make Survived T-shirt status.  😜

1967 – Paul Ehrlich – “the time of famines” was already upon us and would be at its worst and most disastrous by 1975.  – predicted famines didn’t happen.

1969, Ehrlich  “by the time we have enough evidence to convince people” about the world’s runaway population growth, a limited food supply, and man’s contamination of the environment, “you’re dead” because “everybody will disappear in a cloud of blue steam in 20 years” –  blue steam didn’t happen.

1970 – Ehrlich –  “the oceans would be as dead as Lake Erie in less than a decade,” and that America would have water rationing by 1974 and food rationing by 1980 –  didn’t happen.  At least Lake Erie is doing a little better.

I could keep going on Erlich, he’s a catastrophic alarmist that keeps giving failed prophecies as more of a doomsday fiction writer.  But let’s move on to others.

1970, James P. Lodge Jr. – air pollution will obliterate the sun and cause a new ice age in the first third of the 21st century – hmm, wrong temperature direction buddy

1971 – Dr. S. I. Rasool – in the next 50 years, i.e., by 2021, the fine dust we put into the atmosphere by fossil-fuel burning could screen out so much sunlight that the average temperature could drop by six degrees. – hmm, wrong temperature direction buddy

1972 – R. K. Matthews – wrote in a letter to President Richard Nixon that “a global deterioration of climate, by order of magnitude larger than any hitherto experienced by civilized mankind, is a very real possibility and indeed may be due very soon.” – hmm, still waiting

1974 – George and Helena Kukla – the world has plunged into a new ice age, with snow and ice cover of the earth having increased by as much as 12% in just five years, from 1967 to 1971 – hmm, wrong temperature direction buddies

1974 – Dr. Reid Bryson  “The central fact is that after three quarters of a century of extraordinary mild conditions, the earth’s climate seems to be cooling down. Meteorologists disagree about the cause and extent of the cooling trend, as well as over its specific impact on local weather conditions. But they are almost unanimous in the view that the trend will reduce agricultural productivity for the rest of the century. If the climatic change is as profound as some of the pessimists fear, the resulting famines could be catastrophic.” – hmm, wrong temperature direction buddy

1988 – James Hansen – forecasts increase regional drought in 1990s – didn’t happen.

1988 – Hussein Shihab – Maldives completely under water in 30 years – didn’t happen

1989 – James Hansen – New York City’s West Side Highway underwater by 2019 – didn’t happen.

2000 – David Viner – very dire prediction for those living in England: Snow was going to become almost extinct there, snow on the isles was going to be “a very rare and exciting event,” “Children just aren’t going to know what snow is,” “We’re really going to get caught out. Snow will probably cause chaos in 20 years time.” – still plenty of snow in UK winters

2008 – Hansen – Arctic will be ice-free by 2018
2008 – Al Gore – warns of ice-free Arctic by 2013
2009 – Al Gore – Arctic ice-free by 2014
2009 – John Kerry – Arctic ice-free by 2014
2013 – Peter Wadhams – Arctic ice-free by 2015
2013 – US Navy – Arctic ice-free by 2016
2014 – Peter Wadhams – Arctic ice-free is going to happen in summer 2017 or 2018
How can so many be so wrong with predictions of arctic ice?

2010 – Andrew Derocher/Steve Amstrup/Ian Stirling – two thirds of the world’s bears will be lost by mid-century due to climate change – oops, polar bear population increasing, not decreasing

2003 – National Park Service – Computer models indicate the Glacier National Park glaciers will all be gone by the year 2020, and they put up many signs advertising this –  they quietly removed the signs in early 2020.

2002 – Lonnie Thompson – snow on the summit of Africa’s highest mountain Kilimanjaro will completely disappear between 2015 and 2020, thanks to global warming – snow still on Kilimanjaro

2009 – Gordon Brown – 50 Days to Save The Planet From Catastrophe

2009 – Laurent Fabius – we only have 500 days to stop climate chaos

Prince Charles –
2009 -We Have 96 Months to Save World
2019 – the next 18 months will decide our ability to keep climate change to survivable levels and to restore nature to the equilibrium we need for our survival.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez  –
2019, Jan – The world is going to end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change
2019, May – Like the “world ending in 12 years” thing, you’d have to have the social intelligence of a sea sponge to think it’s literal –  a walk back from her Jan remark
2019, Sept – What is not realistic is not responding to the crisis – not responding with a solution on the scale of the crisis. …Because what’s not realistic is Miami not existing in a few years. That’s not realistic – I love the double negatives, is Miami going to exist in a few years or not?

Just to be, not at all like me, The Devil’s Avocado for once.

It might be that they are doing you, me and us all A Huge Favour.
Maybe Climate Science is not completely crazy

Because……
….they are creating whole new ideas and schemes for increasing inflation in Western Economies
Creating stacks of new jobs in the energy business, regulatory ‘services’ and giving justification for raising taxation rates on existing taxes and certainly not least, rafts of new taxation opportunities

Thus they create the illusion of growth, full-employment and a thriving economy that politicians can use to get elected & re-elected.

The people are fooled. It works.
How many times around here do we hear the refrain:
“Western birth-rates are falling because We Are All Now Soooo Rich and Well Educated

Maybe not all the people are being fooled.
Maybe something like 50% of them are Not Fooled

What! says you: “50% don’t believe this BS”
Where are they all. Who are they?

Whispers: “girls”

Lets face it, THEY make the decisions about how many babies are made
They effectively manage The Family Budget
And they can see this for what it really is, an imminnent collapse of Western Society and all its Economies

C’mon – Where are The Girls in The Climate haha Debate?
Basically because its nothing more than a Bar Room Brawl combined with Big Willyism and utterly fake ‘caring’.
They don’t frequent bars, don’t have anything to brag about between their legs, don’t indulge in computerised Self-Pleasurement and understand what Genuine Real Caring is all about.
That’s why they’re not in it.

It is very very simple.
a) Inflation is a device for borrowing money and effectively not paying it back
b) New taxes are perfectly symptomatic of failing economies.
If the or any economy was thriving, existing taxes and tax rates would provide the required income to ‘service’ Government

Thus the alarmists are actually trying to keep the leaking, decrepit and bankrupt Old Tubs that are = ‘Western Economies’ afloat.
For how long?

We are in sooo much shit here.

I am glad it included a tidal gauge graph, as the single best argument against the climate change narrative is the tidal gauges. Any fool can see they are doing the same thing they have done since 1880. No acceleration, nothing. If the world were warming in an unprecedented way, then there is no way it would not be conspicuously reflected in the tidal gauge records around the world. Sure you can look at the temperature here, the snows there, and the drought somewhere else, but the global picture is reflected in the tidal gauges…and there is nothing there.

My challenge to ANY climate alarmist is to show me one tidal gauge graph that I should be worried about! There are hundreds from which to choose. Just show me one!

And because those tide gauges are an important and very consistent maritime service, they are not open to too much “past-adjusting”…

… unlike the satellite sea level “might-once-have-been-data” that they can bend to suit whenever script they want to, adding on whatever spurious values they think they can get away with.

Mr. Lee
Reply to  fred250
January 2, 2021 4:14 pm

They always put up ‘averages’ where they have messed with the data. If the average is so bad, then it should be child’s play to find one that is even worse than the average….but none of them are…because the upward curve is always due to “adjustments”. As for satellites, ultimately, the tidal gauge measures what is important to humans, that is, how high the water is relative to shore. What does it matter what a satellite says if the tidal gauge on the ground is unconcerning!

There are actually a couple that are concerning but they are the exception and the result of unique dynamics.

That is my point exactly. If a hoaxer were to embrace my challenge only to have climate change easily ruled as a the cause for the concern, then there would be no wiggle room for them to retain their position.

If you can’t find an example attributable to climate, that is worse than the accelerating sea level rise presented by noaa, then you can only conclude that noaa is wrong.
