Many if not most readers will be familiar with the short, rather unscientific phrase, “the cause” repeated in multiple Climategate emails. “The Cause” for want of a better definition was to push the theory of potentially catastrophic global warming against any and all academic or political dissension.
Here are some examples.

Almost exactly a year before the first Climategate email story broke on this website, the science fiction series Stargate Atlantis aired an episode called “Brain Storm”, season 5, episode 16. Guest starring in this episode were two well known Climate Change activist experts in everything
Neil deGrasse Tyson and Bill Nye.
Bill Nye was even presented as competent.
Harry Anderson Dave Foley plays the part of the overconfident global savior.
But here is the interesting part. In the introduction to this episode, Tunney (Harry Anderson Dave Foley), has a conversation with his funder about the safety of the project and its goal, being “The Cause”, more than a year before the Climategate emails were revealed to the public. Take a look.
Now with Nye and Tyson on the set, both buddies of recent Inconvenient Truth Academy Award winner Al Gore, it is curious how this particular phrase got into the script. What was the connection of Hollywood, Gore, and our lovely Climategate crew?
It is unlikely we will never know, but it is curious.
Remember those days of yesteryear were there still a smidgeon of self-awareness left?

I remember this episode. It stunned me that anyone thought these two guys were “leading experts” in their fields. I guess if the field is defined as entertainment, Neil deGrasse Tyson is at least fun to listen to – I can’t say as much about Bill Nye. I guess many people look to entertainers for truth because its too hard to think about it oneself.
Sometimes it seems Hollywood just cannot help itself in trying to indoctrinate the stupids.

It seemed to me like I’d been hearing about the cause in different contexts for my entire sentient life. Yep. It’s just the way some people talk about some things. When I did a web search, the example that blew my mind was the American Revolution, but it really shouldn’t have.
“The Cause”, in this case, sounds like cult-member rhetoric.
The dictionary definition of ’cause’: a principle, aim, or movement to which one is committed and which one is prepared to defend or advocate.
Synonyms: ideal, belief (in), conviction, tenet; object, end, objective, purpose, interest; movement, enterprise, undertaking, charity.
I think in this case ideal, tenet, charity are inapplicable and interest or enterprise would apply only in the pecuniary sense.

Even if they genuinely thought they were engaged in a noble cause, there was something missing from their tertiary or postgraduate science education IMO.
Noble Cause Corruption: Where people use unethical or illegal means to reach a goal which they think is for the greater good of humanity.

No! They were not genuinely engaged in anything. They all had the regional surface temperature charts available to them. All the regional surface temperature charts show that it was just as warm in the Early Twentieth Century as it is today.
This regional surface temperature profile does not fit with Human-caused Climate Change/Global Warming because if it’s not any warmer today than in the Early Twentieth Century then that means that CO2 is not a major factor in the Earth’s temperatures, since less CO2 was in the air during the Early Twentieth Century than there is today, yet it is no warmer today than then.
You can’t tell me that the creation of the modern-era Hockey Stick chart is anything but a fraud on the people of the world.
The Climategate Charlatans used a computer to generate a completely different temperature profile for the globe than what the regional charts showed, that fit right in with their Human-caused Climate Change scam. They cooled the Early Twentieth Century to the point of insignificance and made it appear that temperatures have been steadily rising for decade after decade and the world is now at the warmest period in human history. THAT is the lie they promote.
All regional, unbastardized surface temperature charts from around the world show that it was just as warm in the recent past, as it is today. This means there is no unprecedented warming today, which means CO2 is nothing to worry about.
None of the regional surface temperature charts resemble the “hotter and hotter” temperature profile of the bogus Hockey Stick chart. None.
The Bogus Hockey Stick chart is not evidence of Human-caused Climate Change, rather, it is evidence of deliberate fraud on the part of those who created this travesty, and the great pain that followed, and is still ongoing.
The creators of the bogus Hockey Stick should go to jail.
Below is a comparison of a regional surface temperature chart (Hansen 1999, US chart) on the left of the webpage, with a bogus, bastardized Hockey Stick chart.
All regional surface temperature charts from around the world resemble the profile of the US chart. None of the regional surface temperature charts resemble the temperature profile of the bogus Hockey Stick chart. The Hockey Stick chart was created for one reason: To defraud the people of the world. They’ve been pretty successful so far.

Interesting how, in the linked article, Hansen shows the US and ‘world’ graphs side by side, but doesn’t mention that the ranges are different or offer an explanation. The US had much better coverage than the rest of the ‘world’ so why were it’s temps more erratic (spanning a 2.5° C range) while the world graph only spanned barely a degree and obviously didn’t have good data for most of the world (Africa, Asia, Antarctica, etc). Looks like the world graph was highly massaged or really represents a small area likely to be moderated by the sea – like the UK. But in the end it’s the same result as today – 1 or 2 degrees C over a century? Who cares!? Thank God it’s not in the other direction!

Seeing as SciFi is a great many kids’ first introduction to the wonders of science, technology and philosophy, the Bolsheviks use it to distort their dyseducation from day one. The past episode wasn’t renamed.
They had the outline of a story, working title was “Limits”.
It was in writing it up for production or, maybe, after filming but before airing that it was called “Force of Nature”.

Tyson is a smooth presenter but often counterfactual. Nye tried to build a career on shakey science.

I know that I’ve posted this before but it bears repeating. Most people get their understanding of scientific issues not from journals and scholarly works but from movies, TV, and the news media (all fictional sources). The limited formal education they’d received in school leaves them without the logical tools they need to evaluate claims and story lines. Because of “Waterworld” and similar claptrap, many folks believe that if the polar ice caps were to melt the whole world would be underwater! And that this could happen in a matter of months not millennia. Don’t get me started on the plethora of misconceptions fostered by “The Day After Tomorrow”.
This is what we are battling. We talk a lot on this website about this or that scientific study, but none of that reaches the general public the way one sitcom does.
Just a note of irony. The premise of “Snowpiercer” is that fear of global warming pushes scientists to accidentally freeze the planet. Bill Gates, you’ve been warned! /sarc
So true. You will find that most Hollywood types (writers as well as actors) have only a high school education (and that, I note, is highly compromised these days).
And the antipathy Hollywood shows to capitalism? Look at how the “talent” was treated under the likes of the studio bosses- hardly an ethical bunch. If that is your only (or primary) exposure to capitalism, then some of it is understandable, but it sure skews perspective.

Let us not confuse cause and effect. The Cause is control over the great unwashed masses. Said control being exercised by the 1%ers by wielding the bureaucratic state over the willing.
The effect is menacingly horrible hobgoblins such as Climate Change, COVID and yes 2nd Hand Smoke for all you non-smokers who gladly gave the bureaucratic state a hear hear! and a helping hand to ban smoking everywhere because it was so annoying. Yet the pretense was ill effects foisted upon the non smokers. We are convinced to sacrifice individual liberty under the rubric that we are preventing 2nd hand harm to innocents.
Here in the U.S. all they need do is subliminally implant the notion, with the help of the propaganda press, on a voting majority that the CAG (Central Authoritarian Government) can save everyone from the horrible hobgoblins and they gain CONTROL..
