China’s Green NGO Climate Propaganda Enablers

A very enlightening article from Ruper Darwall over at Real Clear Energy

Climate change is a national security threat – but not in the way the national security elite assumes. By Rupert Darwall December 21, 2020

Shortly before the Soviet Union collapsed, Greenpeace opened an office in Moscow. It enjoyed the patronage of a leading member of the Soviet Academy of Sciences and enjoyed Kremlin funding, laundered through a state-owned record company. The green activist group made clear that it would have nothing to do with environmental groups in the Baltic republics. Recycling standard Soviet propaganda, Greenpeace denounced them as little more than separatist organizations.

This pattern, wherein the West’s enemies use the environmental movement – whether NGOs like Greenpeace, foundations, or “concerned scientists,” to undermine Western interests – is now being repeated, this time in respect to China. A report by Patricia Adams for the London-based Global Warming Policy Foundation released earlier this month lays bare the role of the green movement in acting as China’s propagandists.

Since Xi Jinping became general secretary of the Chinese Communist Party eight years ago, almost everyone who believed China’s communist regime would become more benign internally and less threatening externally has revised his opinion – everyone, that is, apart from climate activists. “Rather than becoming cautious about China’s role in the world, these groups lavish it with praise for its environmental efforts,” Adams notes. NRDC’s head of Asia strategy, Barbara Finamore, has even written a book, Will China Save the Planet? Perhaps the only

It’s a very good article, including how the West funds the activities of its enemies.

Beijing doesn’t even need to pay for the propaganda work it wants to do inside the United States. The San Francisco-based NGO, Energy Foundation China, has disbursed over $330 million to U.S. registered organizations operating in China, funding provided by multibillion-dollar foundations such as the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and the Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. The CEO of Energy Foundation China is Ji Zou, a Chinese national and former government official and climate negotiator.

I strongly suggest reading the full article.

China is a great power using global warming to advance its geopolitical interests. Unlike the Soviet Union’s sclerotic economy, China’s is far from a state of collapse. Indeed, China is likely to be the only major economy to emerge larger at the end of 2020 than at the beginning. For China, climate change offers a strategic opportunity. Decarbonizing the rest of the world makes China’s economy stronger – it weakens its rivals’ economies, reduces the cost of energy for its hydrocarbon-hungry economy, and sinks energy-poor India as a potential Indo-Pacific rival.

Is there a way to add a Parler and WeMe icon to make sharing of this easier? Many are moving to those platforms given what the big tech leftists are doing to free speech.

The CCP is basically a criminal organization. You cannot trade with commies….China was supposed to become more “civilized”…..oops, it has been over 20 years and Xi seems to be determined to outdo Mao. The country is overpopulated and limited in natural resources. Huge turmoil is going on now….storms and floods have seriously reduced food production…just about every country is pissed off at China. The virus likely came out of China and the CCP is trying to cover it up. When you are fired at – RETURN FIRE!

I think communism in general was really a criminal enterprise. The business model of the USSR was no longer working so state assets were transferred to a new set of criminals (the Oligarchs). I’ve never heard a good explanation of how a group of mid-level technocrats from a supposedly persecuted minority were able to accumulate the funds to buy the “privatized” state assets.

Not really. “The oligarchs” were former mid-level management at factories and/or local party leaders. A given enterprise shares were distributed among its workers. Through sabotage it was rendered bankrupt so that the starving workers would sell off their shares for a price of toilet paper. The resisting ones would be coerced. Once a new owner got the majority package the hardware was scrapped instantly (more often than not) or the enterprise was slowly drained of resources. Some have survived until today.
It was not a feature of USSR economy but rather a pursuit of short-term benefits at a cost of long-term prospects by those individuals in charge. That process is not entirely different from the way western CEOs are destroying local factories by transferring production to Asia for a quick buck.

… and the capitalist lobby system in DC is not a criminal organization?
Maybe you have more chance of changing that then changing the way China is run.

The communist-inspired totalitarian intent of the Climate Scam enablers could NOT be more clear.
Whether you take the climate science at face value or not, or deeply, honestly try to parse the nuances and subtle deceptions from truth, the intent of climate change policy pushed by the UN, the EU, and all on the Left in US is clearly the establishment of one-party rule and absolute power by an elitist cult over the People.

To that end, the Climate Change policy enablers hate the US Constitution and its separation of powers between 3 equal branches. And they most especially hate the Bill of Rights which tells the US government where it cannot go.

Russia was starting to catch on, but it was too late. China realized that spending money on strategic subversion was far more effective than buying bombs and bullets with it.

The ChiComs are also very adept with jiujitsu, using an enemies strengths against it. Social organizations, which de Tocqueville saw as a great strength of America, are not that difficult to subvert with strategic cash.

So who funds Energy Foundation China? Is it the CCP or is it the useful idiots in America?

Energy Foundation China is a professional grantmaking charitable organization registered in California, U.S. It has been working in China since 1999, and is dedicated to China’s sustainable energy development. The foundation’s China representative office is registered with the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau and supervised by the National Development and Reform Commission of China.
Our vision is to achieve prosperity and a safe climate through sustainable energy. Our mission is to achieve greenhouse gas emissions neutrality, world-class air quality, energy access, and green growth through transforming energy and optimizing economic structure. We deliver the mission by serving as a regrantor, facilitator, and strategic advisor.

They are doing a sterling job, for the Co2 Co2 Party.

Reminds me of the way American interests support AstroTurf movements in Canada to landlock our oil.

China has been very effective in using forms of economic warfare against western powers for decades. Why else would a communist power allow its citizens to use capitalist systems – it doesn’t; these are state sponsored companies using capitalism against capitalist countries. Funding for activist groups is just one part of a long term strategy – something the Chinese excel at.
