If you Thought Climate Grief was Strange, Meet the Climate Grief Therapists

Anxiety solution and freedom from fear and escape from tortured thinking and depression concept as a group of tangled barbwire or barbed wire fence shaped as a human head breaking free as a metaphor for psychological or psychiatric icon.

Guest essay by Eric Worrall

If someone is no longer able to function due to their “pre-traumatic” climate grief, a plethora of therapists are offering therapies ranging from “The Great Turning,” a societal transformation from an industrial, growth, and consumer-based society to a more equitable and sustainable one, to collapse-transcendence (fostering psycho-social-spiritual-cultural shifts to accept and live through collapse with some composure and stability).

Group Interventions for Climate Change Distress

December 11, 2020
Beth Mark, MD , Janet Lewis, MD

From disasters and social disruptions to existential concerns, climate distress groups may not only provide much-needed support to patients but may also help psychiatry’s public health responses.

The climate crisis presents unique and complex challenges to the mental health and wellness of individuals and communities. The need for interventions at a global scale increasingly leads mental health providers to look toward large group interventions. This article outlines a number of the more popular group approaches. It informs psychiatrists about the climate distress groups that our patients may access and advances our understanding of these groups’ methods, which may help psychiatry’s own public health response.

The Work That Reconnects (TWTR) is an approach developed by Joanna Macy, PhD, and is described as a “transformative learning process.”9 TWTR incorporates aspects of deep ecology, systems theory, eco-psychology, Buddhism, and activism. … Instead of turning away from the problem, group members reframe and honor their feelings, and then develop fresh perspectives intended to bring about “The Great Turning,” a societal transformation from an industrial, growth, and consumer-based society to a more equitable and sustainable one.

The Deep Adaptation Forum was developed by Jem Bendell, PhD, after the publication of his paper “Deep Adaptation: A Map for Navigating Climate Tragedy,”12 which went viral. Deep Adaptation (DA) positions itself outside of mainstream work on climate adaptation in that it assumes inevitable societal breakdown and collapse due to climate change and intentionally challenges the idea that hope should be part of climate change adaptation.

DA seeks to develop so-called collapse-readiness (ie, creating an equitable system for distribution of life essentials such as food, water, energy, and health care) and collapse-transcendence(fostering psycho-social-spiritual-cultural shifts to accept and live through collapse with some composure and stability).

No doubt climate grief suffers will achieve a happier, more adjusted mental state after being offered a choice between accepting the end of the world with a smile, or ditching capitalism and embracing a simple communal sharing mentality.

Interestingly many group leaders advocating rejection of consumerism and acceptance of the coming climate catastrophe appear to accept payment for the services they provide. No doubt the act of handing over money helps propel the healing transformation from consumerist obsessed climate guilt to a simpler more positive mental outlook which involves owning less stuff.

“No doubt climate grief suffers will achieve a happier, more adjusted mental state after”… experiencing the excess debt driven hyperinflation that will drive us into a prolonged and deep recession that Harris/Biden/Kerry have in store for us. A little reality should cure the phobia.

Yep.
Maybe the therapy sessions should start with this reality declaration –
“The first thing to realize about life is – none of us are coming out of this alive”

Everything should fall into perspective after acceptance of this reality.

“A little reality should cure the phobia.”

Maybe, but it seems more likely that they would just blame “a prolonged and deep recession” on climate change and get even more depressed.

“…offered a choice between accepting the end of the world with a smile, or ditching capitalism…” Okay, that means that they have to permanently give up all their electronic toys and comm devices, and live the primitive lives that those distant hunter-gatherers lived. And they have to stick with it, permanently.

Aha! A new permaculture, concocted out of dust bunnies and leftover cracker crumbs! They’ll have to learn everything retro including washing all their clothing by hand and hanging it to dry, even when the weather is freezing.

Hmmmm…. I wonder just how long any of them would really last.

Yahbbut, they won’t be using clothes dryers, and it takes a while to dry clothing on the clothesline, so that nasty greenhouse gas won’t be visible to them. It’ll be a miracle! The water will just disappear to some place unknown, and the laundry will be dry!!!

That’s unless, of course, it’s winter and the washing hung out to dry freezes instead. That was always fun, but I earned $.50 for hanging laundry every week, and nobody minded if the shirts froze stiff. You had to be there….

Sara, I’m from Winnipeg and can assure you clothes dry very well on the line in crisp cold weather (grew up in the 40s and 50s). My mother washed clothes in the bathtub, and the kids helped wring them by hand (there were ‘wringer washers’ but we didnt have one) and then out to hang clothes, sheets, etc on the line. For the first half hour or so, the bedsheets were like sheets of plywood but, they soon dried.

The first thing that should occur to them, Sara, is that while trees are renewable they won’t grow at a sufficient pace to keep up with their new rate of consumption. These basement dwellers have no idea what they are advocating. I guess they think they will just stay in their parents basement with free room and board and the heat will magically come out of the air vents on cloudy windless winter days.

IF they only knew how much CO2 their mobile phones and social media require. Then realize how much stress and anxiety they could relieve by turning the damn things off to go fly a kite. Which is what I suggest they do every time they start up on how I am killing the planet.

I can’t stop giggling at the whole idea that any of them think it’s vaguely possible to go off the electric grid and still survive. If it’s true that they electricity comes out of wall plugs (and some of them do so), they are not going to do well at all…. and I won’t feel sorry for them, nor will I feed them if they wander into my camp.

Is it TWO generations now that think supply of “stuff” is endless? Yeah, well, I also cook… from scratch.

There is some hope, despite the silliness: I see plenty of people who are not like that at all. Therefore, they’ll survive and the rest will just sort of fade into bird songs and firefly signals. There are two sides to that coin, one of which is the side that is not like that at all.

Oh, wait! I know how it turns out!

The crop of ecohippies and greenbeaners that think the world is doomed will end up in walled cities and never venture outside, and the rest of us will be busy hunting, gathering, making stuff that’s useful outside those walls.

In all seriousness though, all of this is one huge control experiment. They are using fear to control people and it works. As Frank Herbert said: Fear is the mind killer. Anyone telling you to be afraid is trying to control you.

Living in a constant state of fear is very bad for your health. But the solution is definitely not to learn how to fully live Big Brother.

I think that is what we are looking at here. And include the psychologists in the herd.

I wonder if all this destruction pleases The Climategate Charlatans?

The psychologists should be pointing the finger at the Climategate Charlatans as being the cause of all this mental illness. Climategate Charlantan Lies are the cause of the CO2-phobia.

The psychologists need to cure themselves of their own delusions about CO2 before they can heal others. Physician, heal thyself. Read WUWT. That’s the therapy that is needed.

Sigma Xi recommendations.
STEM BOOKS FOR YOUNG READERS (older children)
“ Stand Up! Speak Up!: A Story Inspired by the Climate Change Revolution is about empowering kids to act.” https://www.americanscientist.org/blog/science-culture/science-book-gift-guide-2020
“Both my preschooler and my first-grader loved the girl’s story, and they have asked me to read it to them more than once.” Others seem not so bad as far as the titles go. On one on Rachel Carson— “At the end of the book is a brief section about the environmental movement today. Unfortunately, it fails to mention many important advocacy efforts of the past 15 years, including those led by young people, such as the Sunrise Movement.”

So American Scientist Editors are preaching advocacy for kids when they don’t even know how old they are at the same time they are violating the Sigma Xi constitution forbidding influencing legislation by raising money to send subscriptions to schools in states with legislation. I may, others possibly, have made an impact as they now omit (hiding?) from their solicitation the legislation subjects of climate change, evolution, and vaccines. They are getting some pushback from other members, including that they should resign, Lysenko brought up. They are lessening the value that many American Scientist articles have. Their current interest in diversity is with art and music, no offense to those in those professions. And of course the usual unscientific diversity.

That’s my question, too. Eventually, this is going to happen. When is the question. Probably not before many Trillions of dollars are wasted trying to fix a CO2 problem that does not exist.

The temperatures over the next decade ought to tell the tale. Although, if it does get colder, the alarmists have already said a decade or two of colder weather does not disprove their Human-caused Climate Change claims. So they think they are covered no matter which way the temperatures go. It must be nice to be able to have your cake and eat it, too. If you can swing it, which in this case will be easier said than done. CO2 going up while temperatures are going down is not a good look for the alarmists.

Let’s see this list of Chinese Communist Party members in the West. Let’s compare it with the Deloitte list of leftist activists who have been bribed with $1billion of foreign money to sabotage the Canadian economy – a list the Alberta government received on 31Jan2020 and still has not released.

How many influential Canadian politicians, government workers, teachers and corporate employees are on one or both lists?

Why won’t the Alberta government release the Deloitte bribes list? What are they hiding?

Americans should be asking the same questions and one more – how many Democratic Party members, government workers, teachers, etc. are also members of the Chinese Communist Party?

MAJOR LEAK ‘EXPOSES’ MEMBERS AND ‘LIFTS THE LID’ ON THE CHINESE COMMUNIST PARTY

https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-huge-data-leak-exposes-chinese-communist-party-members-embedded-in-western-companies-and-governments

A major leak containing a register with the details of nearly two million CCP members has occurred – exposing members who are now working all over the world, while also lifting the lid on how the party operates under Xi Jinping, says Sharri Markson.

Ms Markson said the leak is a register with the details of Communist Party members, including their names, party position, birthday, national ID number and ethnicity.

“It is believed to be the first leak of its kind in the world,” the Sky News host said.

“What’s amazing about this database is not just that it exposes people who are members of the communist party, and who are now living and working all over the world, from Australia to the US to the UK,” Ms Markson said.

“But it’s amazing because it lifts the lid on how the party operates under President and Chairman Xi Jinping”.

Ms Markson said the leak demonstrates party branches are embedded in some of the world’s biggest companies and even inside government agencies.

“Communist party branches have been set up inside western companies, allowing the infiltration of those companies by CCP members – who, if called on, are answerable directly to the communist party, to the Chairman, the president himself,” she said.

“Along with the personal identifying details of 1.95 million communist party members, mostly from Shanghai, there are also the details of 79,000 communist party branches, many of them inside companies”.

Ms Markson said the leak is a significant security breach likely to embarrass Xi Jinping.

“It is also going to embarrass some global companies who appear to have no plan in place to protect their intellectual property from theft. From economic espionage,” she said.

Ms Markson said the data was extracted from a Shanghai server by Chinese dissidents, whistleblowers, in April 2016, who have been using it for counter-intelligence purposes.

“It was then leaked in mid-September to the newly-formed international bi-partisan group, the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China – and that group is made up of 150 legislators around the world.

“It was then provided to an international consortium of four media organisations, The Australian, The Sunday Mail in the UK, De Standaard in Belgium and a Swedish editor, to analyse over the past two months, and that’s what we’ve done”.

Ms Markson said it, “is worth noting that there’s no suggestion that these members have committed espionage – but the concern is over whether Australia or these companies knew of the CCP members and if so have any steps been taken to protect their data and people”.

I would point at the Climategate Charlatans and their Spawn as the source of the problem.

They are the ones that lied to all of us by using their computers to distort the historical temperature records to make it appear that the Earth’s temperatures are at the highest point in human history.

Nothing could be further from the truth, and the only “evidence” for this claim of unprecedented global warmth is from the distorted temperature record.

Written Regional surface temperature charts from around the world disagree with the claim that the Earth is experiencing the warmest temperatures in human history. According to written records, it is no warmer today than it was in the Early Twentieth Century, which means we are not experiencing unprecedented warming, which means CO2 is a minor player in the Earth’s atmosphere and is not the control knob for temperatures.

Lay that on your patients, Doctors. And on yourselves. CO2 is not a problem.

Not digging deep enough Tom. The club of Rome is the horse, the Climategate Charlatans are just part of the cart.

Professor Schneider was among the earliest and most vocal proponents of man-made global warming and a lead author of many IPCC reports. He is a member of the Club of Rome.

“We’ve got to ride this global warming issue. Even if the theory of global warming is wrong, we will be doing the right thing in terms of economic and environmental policy.”

“In searching for a common enemy against whom we can unite, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like, would fit the bill. In their totality and their interactions these phenomena do constitute a common threat which must be confronted by everyone together.” (The First Global Revolution – A Report by the Council of the Club of Rome. President Emeritus of the Club of Rome Alexander King and Secretary General Bertrand Schneider p.75)

From disasters and social disruptions to existential concerns, climate distress groups may not only provide much-needed support to patients but may also help psychiatry’s public health responses. </i

Which should of course have read From wholly imaginary existential concerns, climate distress groups may not only provide much-needed support to each other’s delusions, but may also help psychiatry come up with ever more insane ideas.

The indoctrination has clearly worked. Everybody’s gone mental now.

Therapy should help people deal with their fears. Especially irrational fears. That ain’t happening.

So imagine if one of these therapists had a patient come to them and share their dread that they would turn into a werewolf upon the next full moon….. Instead of trying to help the person get beyond their delusion, the therapist would probably just tell them to go home and have a family member chain them up during the full moon! It is quite sad that today psychiatry and psychology do more reinforcing of delusions then they do of trying to convince patients that such ideas are indeed delusions and are not true. It’s a wonder that anorexia hasn’t been removed from the list of mental illnesses….

Proof that civilization is anti-evolutionary. “Civilization” breeds weak-minded fools who could never survive a world without the luxuries they have, all while thinking they have it so hard.

Remember several years ago, as the Dreaded Pause lengthened to almost two decades, a number of climate scientists came down with what was known as the Climate Blues. It ended the careers of
a numberof them. The climate therapists invariably were simply enablers and offered no relief on what is the best known psychological disorder of all -depression arising from denial.

The patients rationalized that it was because all their work showed the terrible future we were headed for and no one was listening to them. Heck I was worried because most actually were listening to them! No, it was their own niggling doubts about CAGW that the mind was trying to get them to consider. Yeah, its tough after having been sold the goods in grade school followed by a dozen years in university and another dozen working on the stuff to dare to contemplate that they had wasted over half their working lives on a non issue.

Today, it’s the millions of unfortunate non scientist suffers who believe in all that stuff are ill. They are not even getting the benefit of doubts. This hysteria of a huge percentage of the population is perhaps the most terrible thing ever done to society across the world and none of the most culpable of these billionaire elite ideologues are going to pay for this crime. There is no professional help for these patients, certainly not from today’s useless deluded psychotherapists.

I believe so, too.

And it’s all based on something with no scientific foundation: That CO2 is the control knob of the Earth’s temperature, but this assertion has never been established as fact, so the people who are worrying themselves over Human-caused Climate Change are suffering from delusions put on them by the Elites and the Elite News Media. People ought to be suing them for damages.
