State Security, Your Papers Please? UK to introduce “Freedom Passes” for Coronavirus

One of the distinguishing features of British society vs repressive tyrannies like the Soviet Union used to be that you didn’t have to carry identity papers to prove your right to walk down the street.

‘Freedom Pass, Please’: Boris to Introduce Covid Passports as More Lockdowns Loom

KURT ZINDULKA
22 Nov 2020

The British government will reportedly introduce “freedom passes” and specialised passport certificates to people who have tested negative for the Chinese coronavirus, as Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to announce further regional lockdown restrictions following the end of the latest national lockdown in December.

The British prime minister will outline his plans for further localised lockdown restrictions on Monday, as well as a plan to introduce mass testing, in what the government is describing as a roadmap to some sort of normality next year.

The new normal that the British government is set to outline will reportedly include “freedom passes” for those who have two negative coronavirus tests per week. The government is also working with passport manufacturers to create coronavirus certificates for those that can prove they are free of the virus, according to The Telegraph.

A source told the paper that the certificates would “allow someone to wander down the streets, and if someone else asks why they are not wearing a mask, they can show the card, letter or an App,” adding that it would permit a person to “to see their family, and normal social distancing rules will not apply”.

Makes you wonder what other freedoms our beloved leaders are planning to remove.

Australia is regularly cited as a success story w/r to containing Covid-19, but as far as I know Australia never banned people from walking down the street. Australian politicians took a sensible position that the benefits of outdoor exercise on mental and physical health outweigh the remote risk someone will infect you if you pass them in the street.

It remains to be seen what watered down mess he has made of Brexit.

From what I have read it is basically the same a May’s surrender package with UK law still being subject to final arbitration by the European Court of Justice. The reality of that is that “sovereignty” has NOT been reclaimed and once you are out of EU once ( but have accepted their laws above national law ) you can’t pull section 50 a second time.

In fact UK is now in a WORSE legal position after this buffoon was put in charge out Brexit.

Brexit wasnt Boris’ doing, it was Cummings, who has now been sacked. COVID handling was Boris, and it has been a complete disaster. Boris is an incompetent child, zero vision, no confidence, all he has is bluster and a girlfriend, half his age, who, by denying him sex, controls him. The UK is in a mess, she is the one who forced him to come out with all this green rubbish recently.

Love it or hate it, my opinion is mixed on the EU. All this covid over reaction seems to be to distract the British public whilst Boris and his cronies engineer a no-deal Brexit on 31st December thus ensuring that the European Court of Justice no longer has a say in the rights of the British people. Sovereignty is a double edged sword and frankly Boris has a poor track record for respecting his fellow subjects.

He’s done stuff that you’d more usually associate with a tinpot dictator.

Portugal just realized that the PCR test is 97% false positives and the UK wants to use this test to control UK citizen travel. I truly hope this means that the test will receive more scrutiny in the UK. People are not going to want to be ruled by a test that tells nothing but if you weak is to be ruined or not and your life.

With the new flu season and the poor specificity of the PCR test, there will be loads of asymptomatic “cases” and ruined lives.

It will be the Lateral Flow antigen test being used in a trial in Liverpool – similar operation to a pregnancy test apparently. Claimed to have a lower rate of false positives, but higher false negatives when the viral load is low. Results in 20 minutes, and no lab processing required. I think the oppressive lockdowns are being used as the stick now to get compliance with the totalitarian agenda with the carrot of a false freedom pass which is handed out by the state only after you have surrendered all real freedom to the state. Many will be seduced by that false image of freedom, and resistance will be made progressively more difficult for those of us refusing to surrender our rights.

Many people are under the illusion that the UK has a multi-party system. But when it came to voting for the Climate Change Act, 483 MPs voted for the bill and just 3 voted against. Only 0.6% of Parliament opposed the bill; the rest drank the KoolAid. Such unanimity is horrifying, especially given the dodgy science behind the bill.

So this “Lass mich deine Papiere sehen” outcome is not to be wondered at. British democracy is a sham, and Boris has revealed that his underwear is red.

Boris was not a ‘Brexit savior’ but a Brexit idiot as he is on everything he does as the man is ignorant and doesn’t do detail. Detail is of prime important when dealing with our relationship with the EU. His withdrawal deal is worse than Theresa May’s as it left N Ireland in the Single Market so come January food imports from the rest of the UK will be much reduced due to costs/border controls, in addition to which a new dual VAT system will start to further increase costs for businesses trading with N Ireland to the point where it will not be worth it. Food imports via Ireland of Irish produce or other EU nations is likely to increase to fill the gap but at a higher cost. And the moron said his deal was ‘fantastic’ but then of course he never actually read it in the same way that he has never read the Canadian trade deal with the EU or would comprehend that ‘Australian rules’ is not WTO rules only as there are lots of agreements to aid trade with the EU.

Ironically a vaccine would be bad news for Johnson as it will expose the full magnitude of his EU disaster if everyone is back to work – well, those still with jobs. He will be gone before the summer when it threatens his chance to earn big bucks as an exPM.

WE are fairly certain his girl friend is the main driver of Boris’s intellectual demise and his loss of common sense. The virus was just a temporary event, the girl friend looks to be a permanent impediment to sanity.
The girl friend has now acquired a fellow green ally to help control Boris. An official Downing St. spokes person has been appointed called Allegra Stratton to help keep Boris’s message to the nation ever green.
She is ex BBC Newsnight and ex Guardia, plus her husband is editor in chief of the Spectator which is actually a sensible publication.

This also applies to our dictatorial Health Secretary Matt Hancock, who also had the disease, although one might be forgiven for wondering if he actually HAS a brain…

Considering he had the bug and will therefore have antibody / T cell immunity, AND has tested negative, why the hell is he self-isolating? This surely makes any hope of a return to normality with a vaccine extremely questionable…

Britain is now a police state. A rozzer had the effrontery to asks my wife to state her business whilst minding her own business walking down the street of our town, plus name and address.

At an anti-lockdown protest on Saturday in Llandudno five masked coppers ordered us (a hundred of us) to disperse and threatened arrest. We ignored them. They asked, “Are you the organiser? Do you know who the organiser is?”

I calmly and firmly told one that after a lifetime as an admirer and supporter of “our” police I now view them as oppressors. He wouldn’t reply to my question: If the politicians pass a Semite Control Act 2021, would he do his duty and start rounding up our Jewish neighbours, politely escorting them to settlement camps. “Just doing my job sir” would, I assume, be their Nuremberg Defence.

Adelaide banned anyone BUT esential workers from leaving their home at all last week
was supposed to be a 6 day effort but a LIE by a visa worker was the basis for the insane shutdown
it lasted 3 days only
no one was allowed out for excersize/dog walking etc
one person once a day could go to buy food medicine etc.
now it seems thelying non resident and his mate are “lawyeringup”
theyd be on the next plane home wearing bandages if many people could lay hands on them

Melboune(Vic) banned all bar one hr a day exersize and groceries etc for weeks
weve JUST had the wear a mask while outside the home ALL the time regs lifted to none in street butprefer in shops and public venues transport etc still
and yes the idiots IN cities expected farmers working alone in their own paddocks to remain masked..
as if we bothered…

Actually in Victoria in Australia, people were largely prevented from leaving their homes except for a very minor time per day and they needed to wear masks when they are on the street. We also had the police raid a woman’s home and arrest this pregnant lady in front of her children purely for putting on her Facebook page that perhaps we should join in demonstrations against the lockdown. The thought police are alive and well in Australia. We have come through the coronavirus very well mainly because we are an island and we locked off access early. With the exception of Victoria ,which had huge public service administrative failures in relation to the managing of quarantine, Australia has stayed safe and well. Our success was almost completely due to our isolation. Governments, State and our national government, nevertheless have managed to do huge economic damage, built up huge government debt which we will pay off by the next 2 generations and generally stuff up anything they touched. All of us cannot wait for the Covid vaccine if only to stick our finger up to overreactive governments . I am sure our public Health officials Meant well but it would have been nice if they had actually listened to the epidemiologists. The downside of our success, of course, is that we have probably zero herd immunity to Covid if the vaccines are not as effective as they say. I am not sure the Australian community will tolerate further lockdowns and I’m not sure if we can cope with them economically.

Agree, up here in Queensland we had only limited issues. I was in San Francisco in Jan-Feb 2020 and arrived back in Brisbane when we had to only voluntarily isolate for two weeks, not long afterwards it was mandatory when arriving back from overseas. Other than that our state governments have been playing petty politics with border closures between states and confusing the public in some areas with ever changing rules and zones, mostly this was in Victoria although I admit our border troubles between Queensland and New South Wales have been confusing to watch.

Only a few days ago in South Australia, the ENTIRE state, people were banned from outdoor exercise or walking the dog and only one person per household was permitted to go for fresh shopping supplies. All this on the basis of a minor outbreak of Covid-19 and one lying pizza worker. The outbreak was considered extremely dangerous as it infected quickly and with virtually no symptoms! It is not only in Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia that we have total control freaks!

That little 3 day ‘Circuit Break’ farce probably cost a casual billion dollars.

In many aspects I think the SA Government was extremely lucky they managed to back out of it when they did. As I type we were MEANT to be still under ‘Circuit Break’ and had we still been locked inside with no outside exercise we would be seeing a lot more protests and disobedience.

In a sane world the government would have learnt from this. To keep us safe their ‘World Class Experts’ suggested a Circuit Break (not a Lockdown. Very important that.), yet ordered it in such a hack handed manner that it caused panic shopping on Tuesday.

Not as bad as March. I got loo paper without problem (cause I needed it before you ask) but all bread was gone by the time I managed to get in after work. Fruit and Veg was utterly gutted, although I made up by successfully getting my body weight in bacon.

Point is, your end game is to isolate the population from each other. What do you achieve? Thousands of people rushing to the shops to interact with strangers. Yeah. Well done there.

Then we got to Wednesday night. The Police State didn’t start till midnight so it was still completely legal to be both outdoors and maskless until then. So people did. I was out till about 2130. The pubs that were open? Had people in them. The dining establishments? had people in them. The take away shops? Running busy. Dog walkers, cyclists, joggers, casual walkers, and spiteful? Outside. Also know of at least one venue that was running drink specials till midnight to encourage people to get their pre-Circuit Break fill in.

Saw about 10% masks, strongly suggesting that people either don’t believe the sales pitch and/or are not going to wear one unless forced.

Again, objective is to isolate the population from each other for a non trivial period, but legally cannot stop people pragmatically getting in that last bit of public social interaction.

The other farce is that the laws passed require prisoners… I mean people suspected of having The Dreaded, to provide answers to questions related to their movements if asked.

However, and this is the big sticking point, the answers given are not legally binding. Hence the pizza guy did everything right – he provided answers when asked. The fact they didn’t turn out to be completely correct isn’t his fault AND since they were never ‘sworn’, he hasn’t legally lied. Morally and ethically he may be in the wrong, but legally? The boy is a saint.

AND, the big kicker, out of the entire state and all the extra testing that was carried out in a panic rush they still only had a couple of dozen CASES and ZERO DEATHS.

Farce.

“… far as I know Australia never banned people from walking down the street. Australian politicians took a sensible position that the benefits of outdoor exercise on mental and physical health outweigh the remote risk someone will infect you if you pass them in the street.”

As a matter of fact, on October 28 the city of Melbourne ended a 112-day lockdown.
Initially, residents were ordered to stay home except for essential work and services, medical treatment, school or an hour’s exercise a day.
Less than a month later, these restrictions were extended to the entire state, and Melbourne residents were given a night-time curfew (8 pm to 5 am) and a stay-at-home order; only one person per household was allowed to leave their homes once a day to pick up essential goods, and they had to stay within a 5-kilometer (3.1 mile) radius of their home. All schools statewide returned to online learning, and businesses, bars and restaurants were closed.
It is estimated that the state of Victoria lost 1200 jobs per day during this time. Demand for mental health services rose by 30%, alcohol use and domestic violence are way up.
There were fines of A$1500 for people who couldn’t afford to to self-isolate, up to A$20,000 for repeated breaches of isolation.
And the police were authorized to enter residences without a warrant.

This information was taken from several different sources on the internet.

Sweden worked as asylum during 1940 to 45 where the country supported both sides of the war and were bravely neutral.

Today it looks like the medical expertise are going to loose more and more to the politicians. The politicians may win because they count questionable PCR tests (probably over 34 cycles) and turn a blind eye to grand total mortality, which has fallen to slightly below average ever since the height in April.

This is not only Sweden. The majority of European countries have not seen any “second wave” in reference to grand total mortality rate.

The design of the war game Dark Winter was very similar to the current COVID out break except that the unknowns were lower because the disease was smallpox, a disease that have been plaguing mankind since the dawn of history, a large number of older population have been inoculated against the diseases and as one of the background of the game the US to still have 2.3 million dose of the vaccine. The war game was cut short. One of the major player Sen. Nunn, give an outline of what might be done before the US senate committee. It seems authoritarian control especially on the media and against some basic freedoms and rights were necessary to control the resulting chaos. The actually impact was more on the economy, the social cohesion, and mental health than from the disease on the person it self. Fear of the unknown seems to be the major factor. It is either a leadership that promotes confidence, or leadership to coerce the population to follow procedures that gives semblance of addressing the problem even to the point of destroying the economy. An Australian journalist from ABC noted China’s approach to control the potential chaos was to further control the media which no western democracy is willing to do. The outcome of some election results this year and surveys seems to show acceptance of the erosion of individual freedom of movement and privacy rights to control the COVID problem.

Griff you are really nuts!

If you have a driver’s licence at the real b..stards home camp (DVLC SWANSEA), the moment you drive it more than 5 minutes a CCTV camera picks up your number plate and checks if the car has MOT, TAX and insurance.
(If it’s SORN and you drive it you get a big automatic fine).

The first police car you cross paths with already knows who you are and when to pull you over.
If per chance it’s not the right person at the wheel, they get immediately stung with:-
NO insurance
A valid driving licence check
A MOT check
A fine for having tax even 1 day out of date.

On top of this you don’t even have to present a driving licence, DVLA didn’t ask you before programming the chip in your passport to hold all your UK driving licence details, and hey presto the first plod to enter it into the computer in his car/van etc knows who you are all your driving licence past and present address, to check if that is up to date!

So, in fact you ALREADY have an ID card,- it’s the chip in your passport (to make life ostensibly easier to cross borders huh!)

However, I think he is wrong yet again, and stripping a citizens freedom/rights is an outrageous reversal of principles of British jurispudence. We are free in principle to do whatever is not proscribed by law if it causes no injury to another. This is a complete reversal, and the state may permit approved citizens to walk unhindered down the street. The app will rapidly become the preferred method to get past checkpoints and many will be seduced by the convenience of bluetooth validation without realising it is their freedom they have surrendered. First it will be the “privilege” of attending sporting events, theme parks, swimming pools, etc. Businesses will be encouraged to declare a “covid safe area” where only those with a pass may enter. Then it will become de-facto mandatory – if you want to shop, or do business. The street checks could be applied at any point. I don’t think there has ever been a power given to the police which they have not abused. The British are not required to carry a driving licence to prove their right to drive (documents can be required to be produced at a police station), but I can see this pass being required to travel beyond your home town. I am not a religious person, but fully expect the pass code to be set to 666.

He does not realise that he has already submitted to it. A drivers license *IS* an ID card. You don’t have to show it unless asked by a sworn officer, but it does have your address, your DoB and any driving convictions/penalties on it. I still have my UK license which is still valid to 2036.

Yes true, to a point. If none can be produced at time of inspection, you are issued an infringement notice and have 28 day to submit proof at ANY police station subject to penalty.

I have not worn a mask in the UK since this fiasco began. I have gone everywhere and anywhere I wanted and when asked, I simply say I’m exempt and it’s been accepted without question, even in our local Hospital.

The lockdown ‘regulations’ allow for those who suffer severe distress, putting on, wearing or removing a mask to claim exemption with no certification.

Like obesity, smoking and alcohol in the UK, Coronavirus, is a weapon wielded by the government to save on NHS spending. Absolutely nothing to do with the health of the Nation.

Of course the ID App will eventually link to every your health record, and every aspect of your life, like when you went to a restaurant, what you had to eat and how much you spent. I’tll monitor your supermarket spending, and of course your exercise ‘regime’.

‘Reminders’ to walk, run and swim – eat less meat and more vegetables, restrict takeaway orders, and suggest medication to prevent those ailments likely to occur will of course be a feature.

They will, of course, be sponsored by Pharmaceutical companies so the cost isn’t a burden to the Taxpayer…….

While the UK mandate to wear a useless mask is compulsory to all who are not exempt, the no further challenge after you state you are exempt is how it is supposed to operate. Many of the most vulnerable (elderly with co-morbidities) are exempt, but I do know people who are exempt who still wear the mask to avoid confrontation. I have also seen reports of those who claim exemption being refused services – even from medical professionals.

It’s a flu
As a Pandemic it was over in April
Testing doesn’t work
Lockdowns merely delay herd immunity
Vaccines may not work (we’ve yet to find one for the common cold coronaviruses after how many decades)
People are dying of other illness not being treated.
People are losing their jobs.
The economy is collapsing.
The Government only listens to the worst-case doom mongers who have little knowledge or experience in epidemiology, or, it appears, statistics.
Liberty has been taken without consent and will only be returned at the Government’s whim.

I say no more.

The Government governs by consent. The Police police by consent. I hereby withhold my consent to be governed by this Government or to be policed by their enforcers, the Police.

• No consent to covid-pass.
• No consent to mass testing.
• No consent to mandatory vaccination.
• No consent to Big Pharma given a free pass on financial responsibility for dangerous vaccines.
• No consent to fascistic policing.
• No consent to petty fines.
• No consent to their divide and rule of people with woke policies.
• No consent to draconian regulations or Acts of Parliament.
• No consent to rule by dictat.

And I have a question for the Government: WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?

Us Brits gave up our rights and freedoms willingly and for the majority happily. These rights and freedoms took centuries to take from the state in a series of two steps forward one back. These will not be returned willingly by the state.
Part of the problem is that nobody has a grandparent who can remember their grandparents talking about an oppressive and corrupt state, It’s almost 200 years since the Reform Act which did away with rotten and pocket boroughs. Last time Riot Act was read was in 1919. The Miner’s Strike divided the nation but the majority probably supported the government. But I was working in Nottingham at the time and pickets from Yorkshire where prevented from getting off motorway junctions to picket mines and power stations. The laws introduced by Thatcher to stop picketing and strikes without prior arrangement have been strengthened and easily be modified to cope with dissent at CV19 restrictions being extended beyond the point when we’re all immune.

We’re rapidly heading to being a banana Republic police state Venezuela and Albania come to mind.

Ben, you don’t need someone (quite!) that old. I’m 64 (fortunately, with no children or grandchildren), and back in the early 80’s I got into shortwave radio listening. As such, I well remember the constant battles between East & West with regards to jamming. Also the monotonous announcements, and the “Tractor Production Statistics” style of programming, from any Iron Curtain broadcaster. Also, at the time, South Africa was living under Apartheid, and although their programming was much more upbeat, it was clear that the announcers had to be VERY careful what they said.

“Banana Republic police state Venezuela and Albania come to mind”

And further to my comments above, Albania was a highly secretive country back then – Radio Tirana made Radio Moscow seem quite relaxed in comparison. Yet these days, the country is a popular tourist destination, while most of our crime syndicates are controlled by their countrymen!

And they were probably in constant fear of being raided by the authorities. One of the programmes I regularly listened to was a weekly “Rock” music show broadcast by US funded Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty. It was the main way youngsters in Russia & other Soviet states could hear this sort of “Decadent” music, other than by exchanging records & tapes smuggled across the border. A few fortunate ones, who lived close to Western countries, could hear their FM signals, which don’t generally travel very far. Shortwave, on the other hand, can cover vast distances with the right choice of frequencies.

However, what we’ve ended up with is the most ‘woke’ government on the planet riding roughshod over personal freedoms and pursuing a ludicrous ‘green’ agenda (courtesy of Boris’s eco-activist girlfriend) that is nothing short of economic suicide. Utter lunacy. In the US, we have masses of sheeple lining up for Covid tests because they figure (wrongly) that it gives them a free pass to celebrate Thanksgiving with others not within their household. Common sense would tell you that the virus doesn’t care that you’ve tested negative. Even if you quarantine between the negative test and Thanksgiving, which many probably won’t, you could be exposed to it at the family gathering.
I suspect that “freedom passes” are a gimmick to encourage people to get tested more often, since I assume they would only be in effect for perhaps one week. These PCR tests are essentially meaningless anyway. A positive test only tells you that you were exposed to the virus at some point, not whether you actually have the virus or not.
I highly doubt that police would be randomly stopping people on the street, asking to see their “freedom pass”, however, it could be an issue I suppose, during almost any minor infraction.

Far more likely to start with an app communicating via bluetooth to an existing entry portal – turnstile at sporting events, swiming baths, etc. which has been closed to the public for most of the year, and portrayed as a privilege for having a pass after the latest lockown, or the next one. Next in line is public services – schools, council offices, public libraries if any are left, etc. Next, it would be convenient to extend it to existing entry portals – tube stations, airports, etc. then other venues allowed to operate only if they sign up to resticting access in the same way – nightclubs, concerts. Next, better do those big enclosed shopping centres – it’s for your own safety, you know. By that time it has been normalised, and more likely that checkpoints would be set up in hotspots – again for your own good. A dystopian future that is only months away.

After World War II the UK population still carried identity cards. Young policemen used to stand on street corners asking to see indentity cards while achieving nothing but looking busy. This so annoyed the general public going about their legal business that the indentify cards were abolished by the government.
I can see these CoVid 19 passports going the same way causing an ever bigger disconnect between the population and the police forces. Remember in the UK the population consents to be policed by the police forces. The imposition of CoVid 19 could see the removal of this consent

Back in the 70’s Venezuela had responded to the Che Guevara types by establishing a national identity card: the ‘cedula.’ I went down to Maracaibo around 1973 to do some linguistic work in the Sinamaica lagoon. We had a family passport at the time and found it necessary to change to individual passports so we could return via different routes. The American consulate in Maracaibo was very accommodating; had us fill out some paperwork, hand over the old passport, and come back in a few days for the new ones. So I walked out without a passport–and of course, no cedula. This came back to bite later, when the local bus I was on was stopped and I had no ID. They weren’t at all impressed with my California driver’s license. So I spent a night in the local jail and found myself the next night in the back of a pickup with a bunch of ‘illegal’ Columbians being expelled to Maicao (in Columbia). Took one look at Maicao, and walked back into Venezuela. That’s when life got interesting….

Well we all knew where this was going didn’t we?

Look it’s pretty simple: the public is in a panic, they are looking for anything that will give them a sense of safety. More testing resulting in negative results makes people feel safer–so only report positive results. Why not? Forget that the negative tests are even there. Because only positive ones matter.

Actually…..they do but so do the negative ones. Most especially the negative ones.

But what really matters are those that test for the antibodies–except–oh wait…um….yea….no test for that. No test for a natural immunity, because it “doesn’t exist”….really? How do they know? Oh wait…they don’t. What about all of those of us that displayed the exact same symptoms in JANUARY or December of last year or earlier..but no, we didn’t have it then because it wasn’t “discovered” in the US until Feb and people only started dying of it in April. Right. Sure. Uh huh. Was that before or after our CDC changed the reporting rules for tracking?

Nothing about this pandemic is above board–nothing. From Freedom Passes to Immunity Stars you stitch into your clothing, to reporting of cause of death, to testing, to the vaccine(s)….nothing except 1 shared commodity which can be monetized on the airwaves: fear.

Mike O
November 23, 2020 6:57 am

I can see doing something like this as an incentive to get vaccinated, but tested? No. Too easy to later test positive. I would be happy to show a certificate that I had been vaccinated if it meant that I didn’t have to wear a mask. Probably also give them to people who have recovered.

I get the Libertarian argument, but people have demonstrated throughout this that they are idiots.

November 23, 2020 7:57 am

“The British government will reportedly introduce ‘freedom passes’ and specialised passport certificates to people who have tested negative for the Chinese coronavirus . . .”

So, two tests per week for each and every week far into the future to keep your “freedom passes’ active in the UK. Wow, I never thought that I would see the day that freedom was essentially put up for sale in the United Kingdom, and beyond that served out to the relatively few advantaged enough to be able to afford waiting in line twice a week to get a COVID-19 test. Sounds like a cost-vs-benefits analysis is in order to evaluate just incurring fines for violating the lockdown/mask order versus the two-tests-per-week-option versus the just-stay-isolated-at-home option.

I seriously doubt the COVID-19 testing will be provided free-of-charge (if nothing else, the UK socialized health care system will recover the immediate costs via future increased taxation of citizens). So, if this proposed new legislation is passed, personal freedom in the UK will come at expense of carrying a medical “passport” for travel within that country.

Coming next, a UK “passport” for the flu, and then one for the common cold.

Ultimately, freedom only for those proven healthy. Yeah . . . that’s the ticket!

It is sad and disturbing that so many people are this ignorant of disease testing.

“A Portuguese appeals court has ruled that PCR tests are unreliable and that it is unlawful to quarantine people based solely on a PCR test.

The court stated, the test’s reliability depends on the number of cycles used and the viral load present. Citing Jaafar et al. 2020, the court concludes that

“if someone is tested by PCR as positive when a threshold of 35 cycles or higher is used (as is the rule in most laboratories in Europe and the US), the probability that said person is infected is less than 3%, and the probability that said result is a false positive is 97%.”

Actually I rather like the idea. Why should draconian restrictions apply to those who are immune? I had the COVID virus in August, which is the same or better than being vaccinated, yet all the restrictions still apply to me.

And why exactly should draconian restrictions apply to anyone? Most of us do not know whether or not we have had COVID-19 since a high proportion of infections are asymptomatic. We do know the testing is not accurate, so are unlikely to find out. There are incredibly low numbers of actual cases as opposed to asymptomatic infections and false positives, and the herd immunity threshold is probably close in the northern hemisphere. Cross immunity seems to be a factor (mumps vaccine?) as to why the disease has not spread more widely. Whether immune through infection, novel vaccination, cross-immunity, or not immune, there is no need for draconian restrictions now, and there isn’t in the future.

November 23, 2020 10:43 am

It may happen here in the US as well.
As the vaccinated cohort grows beginning next month, there is going to be increasing pushback on the various mask mandates from those who are no longer potential carriers of the virus. They will be in conflict with the scolds of society who will demand the immunized either continue wearing a mask or provide readily visible proof of immunity. So, how to appease Karen?
