Should you help the needy or give money to politicians? According to music star John Legend you might be better off giving the money to politicians, though he intends to do both.

John Legend calls out Mark Cuban for urging people to give money to food banks over Georgia Senate run-offs

‘Charity isn’t sufficient,’ the Grammy-winning musician told Cuban, arguing flipping the Senate would have more ‘impact’

By Joseph A. WulfsohnJulius Young | Fox News

John Legend got into a lengthy spat with Mark Cuban on Thursday after the billionaire suggested people donate money to local food banks instead of the highly-contested Senate run-off races in Georgia

The double contest set for January 5 is expected to be a political showdown as the balance of power is on the line. GOP Sen. David Perdue is facing off against Georgia Democrat Jon Ossoff and Sen. Kelly Loeffler is defending her seat against Democratic challenger Rev. Raphael Warnock. The winners of those races will determine if Republicans will maintain a majority in the Senate or if Democrats take control by a 50-50 margin with Vice President-elect Kamala Harris as the tie-breaking vote.

Amid the political firestorm the Georgia run-off races have fueled, the “Shark Tank” star suggested that money that will be funding four different Senate campaigns would be better spent on those in need, especially amid faltering economic recovery.

“I get that politics is annoying and contentious, but the bottom line is that the Senate flipping would be far more impactful than a food bank donation,” Legend responded to the billionaire businessman. “We need massive stimulus and aid to individuals and small businesses. Government needs to do this. Charity isn’t sufficient.”

I think there is room for both kinds of giving, but someone who is starving probably has more immediate problems than worrying about who wins a senate runoff.

John who? Never heard of him…maybe he’s a legend in his own mind? Cuban? He should move to Cuba.

He’s a musician and married to model Chrissy Teigen.

A few months ago, Teigen was in the hospital due to bleeding issues while pregnant. In the end, she had a miscarriage. They had a professional photography series done and released to the public showing Teigen breaking-down and crying alone in the hospital, lying in the hospital bed holding the wrapped corpse with Legend at her side, etc. Sick stuff from sick people.

We need to go back to the days when entertainers were just tolerated, and not accepted as part of polite (or even impolite) society.

John Legend knows lots about 1, 2minor, 4, 5 chords…..but why would he know any more about senate runoffs than any reader of this blog. Cuban on the other hand, also knows nothing about senate runoffs, but realizes that politicians slip into the parade, work their way to the front, and eventually declare that they are parade leaders and were instrumental in starting the parade…..so a donation to the food bank is more useful than listening to their self adoration….

Work-from-home is going to slash tax revenues. All those offices no longer needed, all those fast-food and coffee places running out of customers. All those empty buses and trains to run. All that petrol not being burned commuting to and from work.

So, yeah, socialist governments will want to tax it as much as possible to replace that lost revenue.

OT but, if the potential Biden administration has a plan to save us from COVID 19, why are they keeping it a secret and allowing people to suffer and die? That is not very nice.

Not only that, but he said that one of his first things to do is to have a COVID task force come up with a plan.

His current plan is just more of the same…wear a mask (which he once said he’d make a national mandate, then was told he didn’t have that power and reduced it to encouraging state and local officials to mandate masks, and is now back to a national mask mandate) and social distance. Plus empty and open-ended promises like “increased testing and access to health care, and a faster rush to a vaccine.”

Gov Cuomo was recently quoted as saying that he wished drug companies would withhold releasing any Covid vaccines until Trump is out of office so that Trump wouldn’t get any credit for them.

Would be nice if he had a clue before spouting off.

The Dems he supports have blocked several COVID relief bills, in large part because they want to return money to wealthy people in high tax states who can no longer deduct their state and local taxes on federal tax returns (and also probably because they hoped widespread suffering would help them in the election).

Democrat Covid-19 policies, including: restrictive mandates to delay, extend (i.e. exposure) the spread. Democrat Covid-19 policies, including Planned Parent. Democrat Covid-19 policies, including denying, stigmatizing early treatments that have effective globally (i.e. signal diversity). Democrat Covid-19 policies that have spread social contagion, increased collateral damage and excess deaths.

It’s much better to have the national government to provide food to the poor, therefore making the poor even more beholden to the government, than it is to have the local food problems be handled at a local level leaving the government out.

Musicians and Actors spend the majority of their adult life “getting in touch with their emotions”. It is similar to the way an engineer spends the majority of their adult life in logical analysis of systems. The difference is that the celebrities are not equipped to analyze the “effects” of policy modifications. They are very well equipped to pontificate about how “they feel about” policy modifications. And normally they obsess over some aspects of changes to policy and completely ignore other aspects.
They are the worst possible people to ask about a logical analysis of any complex subject. They think they are much more intelligent than they are, because they have a posse blowing smoke up their sphincter all day, every day. And what intelligence they do have is vetoed by “their feelings” about any subject. That is why they are unable to maintain marriages and stable lifestyles without a group of chaperones keeping them from doing whatever their feelings tell them to do.

One constant with progressives. They believe that individuals can’t make a difference, which is why they rarely do any charitable work themselves.
They believe that the only way to improve society is to have government steal someone else’s money and give it to the poor.

Reply to  MarkW

He is right in concept, but wrong in his desired outcome.

Republicans winning will be a net return and there will be less need for food aid. So, long term it is better to give to ensure that the republicans hold the senate.

(Again, I wish I had the time to take a long long visit in Georgia … put my house on the market, hang out in Thomasville or Helen through the holidays, eat a peach, go to the beach(es) and islands, vote for the good guys, look for cushy jobs and move back if I didn’t find one.)

“flipping the Senate would have more ‘impact’”

He’s right there. The number of poor people would double, almost overnight.

November 14, 2020 10:01 am

I see what he is doing here and he is correct. Switching the control of the senate to democrats will certainly be far more impactful. Then the number of people dependent on food banks will go through the roof, and so in the long term donations might actually increase, but only if there remain any citizens in the middle class after a democratic senate destroys the economy. So one way or another JL wants to celebrate hunger and poverty, secure in the knowledge that it won’t touch him or his close circle of family and friends. Classy guy???

From a friend …
What’s on my mind…there ya go again. Welp, had a friend who suggested I summarize the vaccine field and distill it down for all of us…I’ll give it a shot. Hope this helps:
First of all, almost all of these approaches are targeting (like a smart bomb) a protein that is on the cell surface of the SARS virus…this thing is called a “Spike protein”….luv the name since in the old days the bully at school causing all the trouble was named “Spike”….Why target the SPIKE protein…well this guy allows the virus to attach to cells and basically opens the door so the virus can get in and start replicating….so the idea is to reveal Spike to the immune system PRIOR to infection to teach the immune system how to respond and put it at it’s ready as well as pre-generate some immune response (antibodies) in advance.
PFIZER VACCINE: This vaccine utilizes a very unique approach in that the vaccine contains what’s called a “messenger RNA” (mRNA). The mRNA contains the genetic code to make the SPIKE protein which by itself is not a problem. This mRNA is placed into a viral vector(basically a delivery device to our cells…like a mail person delivering the letter), injected and then the virus gets into cells (the virus does not replicate) and delivers the message (genetic code to have that cell make the SPIKE protein). The cells cooperate, make the SPIKE protein, it is presented on the surface of the cells and the immune system goes “WHOA…that shouldn’t be there” and mounts an immune response to SPIKE. Then when COVID appears its ready and has been taught how. Issue with the Pfizer vaccine is that it must remain at -80 C (-112 F) prior to injection so distribution is a major challenge particularly to third world countries and even facilities in the US not set up for this….doable but challenging.
MODERNA VACCINE: Fundamentally the same approach as Pfizer with a different viral vector (different mail person). Advantage (if it works): only has to be kept at 4 C which is basic refrigeration.
OXFORD VACCINE: Different approach…similar to the flu vaccine. This uses what is called an adenovirus carrier (a weakened version of the common cold) that contains the spike protein. This is non-replicating so causes no issues. This same approach, with different ingredients has been used successfully for EBOLA. Soooo, this is injected, our bodies immune system goes “WHOA…wait a minute…gotta get rid of this” and mounts an immune response. Thus, when COVID appears there are already antibodies and the immune system is primed to make more to prevent infection.
JOHNSON AND JOHNSON VACCINE: Very similar to Oxford approach just users a different adenovirus which may or may not produce a “better” immune response.
ELI LILLY AND REGENERON: These are similar in approach but very different than the above approaches. In this approach they are creating what is known as “a neutralizing antibody”….as the name says…they “neutralize” the enemy. They do not necessarily cause an immune response so very different than the approaches above and not a vaccine as we think of it per se. What this approach does is to synthetically make a very powerful antibody to the SPIKE protein. When COVID appears, this “vaccine” is injected, the antibody binds to the SPIKE protein on COVID preventing it from finding that door to enter cells to infect and spread and, in essence, neutralizes the threat. Actually pretty important and useful particularly for patient populations with high risk of dying and those, due to other conditions (e.g.: immunocompromised) that may not be able to mount an immune response to other vaccines or if already infected with COVID where a vaccine like the ones above wont necessarily be very effective. So good to have in the arsenal.
\So…hope this is helpful….there are many others out there but these seem to be in the lead. As a scientist, I can only thank the dedication, passion and brilliance of the men and women who have worked so hard to protect our lives. This is real science in action!!

A refrigeration expert tells me they need a minimum of 6 months to plan to distribute the Pfizer vaccine due to the -60C° storage requirements

Gateway Pundit has a video called “Drop and Roll” which explains precisely what happened in each of the contested swing states; it goes like this:
1) By evening, Trump has a commanding vote lead, setting up the need for an “adjustment”,
2) In the middle of the night, a block of Biden votes is dropped–enough to give Biden the lead and after that,
3) The ratio of votes is controlled so Biden always gets a slight advantage, thereby preserving his lead with the roll. In several swing states, it was kept at a constant 50 to 49 percent advantage! These numbrrs are reported every hour.
Hence, the Drop and Roll!
As any sentient human could see, these numbers are impossible unless fraud was committed. The Dems got caught! LOL… They are so stupid. Drop and Roll is easy to spot and was consistent across the swing states where the Dems needed it to block Trump. A lot of the other foolishness was to divert attention from what was going on with vote manipulation.
